i would like to re-spark interest in this.. i feel that if a dev could tackle this it would be one of the greatest advancements of the sgs fascinate..
i have had a lot of people say that it is not possible because of the hardware.. or the cdma chipset.. but i read in droid forums someone had a tvout kernel in testing then this post below states 2.2 could have it.. im not convinced it cant be done.. the devs at xda are amazing. and i have faith in all of you.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/sa...80024-adding-tv-out-capability-fascinate.html
Video out... from... where? From the Fascinate? I just looked again, in case we've been looking at different phones all this time... and the only plug is USB. Is there a magic plug on yours that has like 10x the throughput of USB2?
I am told there are pins in the USB slot. So... ok. This is still a "not going to happen until you get a new kernel" thing, so don't hold your breath.
Also every other phone that does this sucks while doing it, so...
Last time I checked there is no hdmi out, let me look again...no, just usb.

The Epic has tv out in testing, might be fully working too, haven't checked in a while. I'm pretty sure it uses component cables out of the headphone jack. So it appears to have nothing to do with hardware and everything to do with carrier preference, as the Epic is CDMA and isn't supposed to have tv out either.

We will get it sooner than later. If 2.2 starts rolling out like the reps have been saying, then we should be getting this sooner.
To the first 3 negative responses... Via 3.5 jack or usb to hdmi.. I would prefer 3.5 video out... If your just going to bash on here don't bother posting..

The fasinate already has video out. The headphone jack has a 3rd line to it. All you have to do is buy the wire. Its a red, yellow, white analog plug in on the other side.
That seems to be the case, but as of yet there's no way to enable it. And, as in the case of the Epic, the drivers are most likely not present and will have to be hacked on to our phone.

...at the risk of being stoned to death (and not the good kind).... the Telus Fascinate uses the headphone jack for it's TV out. There is an option for the TV out enable in under the Settings -> Display tab at the bottom with the option for NTSC or PAL. It's a fairly standard cable. I had two - one which didn't seat properly and didn't work and the other one didn't look like it went in all the way in but worked fine. Disclaimer to all - of course this doesn't mean that works on anything other than a Telus Fascinate.....

you need a ground in there somewhere. 4 contacts would be left, right, ground, and mic. i would assume the SGS phones that do have video out uses the mic in as the video out. so that means it would have 2 connections to the pin in the 3.5 jack. one for video out and the other as the mic in.

I went to Bestbuy this morning and was checking out the Atrix when I was told by a BB employee that you can hook up a bluetooth keyboard and connect the hdmi cable to the phone and tv and use it as a computer if you don't have the lapdock.
is this true?
I really don't think the dude knew what he was talking about because he kept saying that only the Inspire handset is capable of working on the new HSPA+ network. I kept telling him the Atrix can too and he had to go get a manager to confirm....wtf.
But anyway, is that the case? You can connect the Atrix to the TV via hdmi and have the same kind of experience you would have as if you had the lapdock?

No, it's not the case with stock. There are some people working on it so that it will be possible, but they haven't cracked it yet.
It used to be, but Motorola changed it so that you needed the dock because of friendly user feedback.

Oh, ok....When he said all that, it didn't even sound correct. But he so happy, I thought he was having an asthma attack just from talking about it. His eyes was all big ..I was like wow. I hurried up and left after that experience.
There's now a hack to enable webtop without the lapdock or HDMI dock here.
You can also find an HDMI mirroring hack here. Just remember to connect the HDMI cable before running the app for the first time.

Not sure if it it relevant now that it was brought up from the dead, but with the lapdock I can surf the net with the built in browser instead of Firefox. Not sure if its the same with the multimedia docking station though. From what I remembered a tethering plan was not needed with that kit but I was told you could still surf the net.

Im holding back my profanity because im trying to be a good boy.
I NEED a working av cable that is compatible with tv out. Check my posts, this is the 3rd thread ive made since december on this exact subject. Now based on your experience...
Does the zune cable work?
Does an iphone 3.5mm work?
Does the official samsung work?
The nokia does NOT. wasted my money.
The verizon wireless cable they offer did NOT.
the sony camcorder out does NOT.
ive pissed away over 40 bucks now and cant take it anymore.
If you bring up "have u switched the cables around/is tv out turned on/using pal or other/etc" I will eat your first born. I have tried every troubleshoot with each cable. Please, im begging you, let me know your experiences and if any match up, I may finally have a successful result on getting it up and running.

iphone works
just go buy a zune cable from a local electronics store and test it out, if it doesnt work for you you can always return it, generally speaking if you are polite the management of whatever store will work with you. One person has confirmed it working multiple times might as well give it a shot. Remember if it doesnt work just take it back, not a big deal.

[KERNEL][ICS-CM9 or JVU] USB Host mode (OTG) driver for SGS i9000 [BUILD 4]
This thread is a good read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1450298
So far its available for the i9000, Captivate, and the Nexus S.
He says this is what he needs to possibly port it to other devices -
The kernel source is avialable on github. It is either a kernel for gingerbread (>=2.6.35) or for ICS (>=3.0)
It also contains (or has links to) the initramfs and all the other files needed to create an update.
If creating the update is not straightforward I also need a script to do this for me
After the update is made I need someone with the device to test it for me. If the feedback is positive I'll build versions for that device too, whenever something is changed.
Discuss.

Nope, it just means that they've ported USB host(OTG) to other Galaxy S variants by use of a Linux 3.x.x kernel. Not the same as a 2.6.35.7 kernel, it won't just magically work for us, it'd have to be adapted. To except Epic specific things.

I think the hopes for some ICS action are so strong, and many of us don't understand what goes into porting and creating custom work. Let's be happy with what we have with the epic. I hear cm9 is coming along nicely, so what the hell more should we expect? Dual core LTE's are on the way, so enjoy cm9 when it gets here cause I remember when all of us were wondering if we'd even see gingerbread.

There is also a build for stock JVU (Gingerbread). It is possible to port this to older ROMs too (like CM7, or pre-GB ROMs). Ask your favourite kernel developer to do this for you. I only plan to support the CM9 and the stock Gingerbread version.

I somewhere read that s4 will have wireless recharging. Is it true?
I mean, it's not that wireless electron flow isn't possible (please correct me if I am wrong). We can transfer current wirelessly (i read somewhere, i think in digit magzine that it had something to do with same oscillation frequency or something).
What do you guys think?

And if battery is 0%?
Well...
Simple answer is - WHY STRUGGLE WHEN SCIENTISTS DEVELOPED TUBE LIGHTS AND BULBS? Just switch on any one of them and get enough light to carefully explore the lead!
It's not that we are going to some dark mountain to recharge phone where there are no lights, we are in our own home.
It's quite easy actuall i switch of the lights my pc and everything else. And use my phones screen as a guide and insert it and bingo. Not bad ayy, I think, you know what i won't even say it this thread is just plain dumb..
