6. After rooting, Reboot the phone to start using apps which need root permission.

How do you have the Tab? Your using a prototype or something?
Got it from Italy. It is being sold there right now. I can refer you to an eBay seller who ships internationally if you like (via pm only)

I'm confused. Where is the info to root the Tab and my Captivate with the one click method. I don't see any instructions, links, etc. Did I miss something? Please pardon my ignorance. I'm new to Droid. Ditched my iPhone. Yay!!
not working for me
it seems, the one click root will work, but it does NOT.
superuser app is installed by oneclick windows exe, but if i start titanium backup, it asks for super user rights, but the super user app shows an error message.
"NO ROOT RIGHTS! sorry"
i got my samsung galaxy pad yesterday in milano/italia with stock rom.

You might need to try more than once, but it works.
Great work guys.
Once the Tab hits general release it might be worth re-posting the root method in it entirety in here, so that there we can keep Tab related root discussion in this forum rather than cluttering the Captivate one.
could you pm me the info?

Did it. I think that you have to install Samsung Kies first, to be able to recognize the Tab correctly for exploit to run.

Hey people,
I've been trying for a while now to root my sister's Intercept (virgin mobile). I've looked all over the place and no method seems to work. Does anyone know of a way to do it?
I've tried:
z4root apk (said phone is rooted but su wasn't installed and all other apps said it wasn't, including root checkers)
intercept root apk (same as above)
SuperOneClick (latest version) (stopped in the middle and never completed, always fails)
Gingerbreak apk (just reboots the phone and doesn't do anything)
Any ideas? Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
The intercept root apk worked like cake for me. I would try doing a factory reset then using that apk first thing after rebooting. It doesn't work with FB01 (Sprint) Intercepts after a February 29, 2012 update, but it should still work with EC07 (VM).
This is the one I used: http://intercept-root.googlecode.com/files/InterceptRootV1-35.apk
Once you've used the app once and reboot your phone, open it again and if it worked you should see options to either unroot or install CM01 custom recovery (recommended if you want to flash roms onto it).
Good luck!
Gonna try it out when I get a chance. Thanks!
The z4root dont work on the intercept anymore. and the inerceptroot.apk on my phone would say that it was failed or what not and i would use root apps and they would still work (even without superuser)
I have been using a optimus v but I have an intercept that's rooted with super one click. Its a brand new phone just opened it and runs like crap slow and just tards out. Rooted it to try and fix it still a no go. Any clues

Id just start from scratch and find a stock rom to flash. I used to have a VM intercept for a painful 2 years. Sometimes you just need to start over with a fresh rom.

Intercept root
i have an intercept from VM and it was easily rooted with interceptroot.apk Google it, a safe copy will be found on sdx-developers website.
this should get you started, make sure you download the file with your phone, click the home button. Next, click the settings button on your phone, go to applications and then in the following menu, go to development and turn on usb debugging and use the back icon, next allow unknown sources in the menu you are now into again, and click the home button yet again.
Make sure you have some sort of file browser, I personally prefer the app "file expert" but others have their own preferences. (you can use any file tools, like: es file explorer(free), file explorer(free and paid), file expert(free and donate versions), root explorer(free and paid verisons). Anyways, go to your sdcard with the file tool, locate the folder called download, and tap the icon that says "intercept-root.apk" make sure its version 1.35!
You should be asked if you'd like to install, select install. *** NOTE: if you have an antivirus on your phone(whats the point?) you'll get a pup warning, it does not mean its a virus, just a Potentially Unwanted Program, which means that you might not want to install just because it will void your warranty.. if you don't mind, JUST IGNORE! ****
next, you will have a few options, might I suggest permanent root so you don't have to keep rooting your device, it will also have other options and install a handy icon inside your applications menu screen for safe keeping!
You should be all good to go, to find out, go to the google play store and download a program thats free called "root checker basic" It will let you know if your good to go or not.
That concludes the fast off the top of my head tutorial! happy rooting!
*** Update ***
This intercept root apk file also has the option to install the CM01 recovery mod (flash) if your into modding or wanting to flash the phone to a new network sometime (why????) you might want to use this too, make sure to read up on it, I personally have not done it and choose not to, at least yet.. This is important if you want to install roms, kernels (like crappy-kernel) and opens more features to your phone, but can render it into a paper weight if your not careful and PAY ATTENTION!
hope this helps everyone.
Hey guys in this tutorial i will show you how to root the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit from Metro PCS, model SGH-T599N.
The phone comes Stock with Android Jelly Bean 4.1 Jelly Bean. This will also work on 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
So lets get started.
There is a tutorial video at the bottom of the page
WARNING:
THIS WILL MOST LIKELY VOID YOUR WARRANTY.
YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, THERE IS A CHANCE YOU COULD BRICK YOUR PHONE.
What you will need:
1) A Samsung Galaxy Exhibit SGH-T599N
(To check your model number, go to Settings / About Device / Model Number)
2) A PC running Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8 or 8.1)
3) A Usb Cable
4) Rooting program called VROOT
Step 1:
You need to download the VROOT rooting program.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/f85okpyc1u33zgt/Galaxy_Exhibit_Root.zip
Once the link is downloaded, extract the zip. You will get a .exe file called VRoot_1.7.3.4863_english_cid1005_7337ba1e_89.exe
Run the VRoot_1.7.3.4863_english_cid1005_7337ba1e_89.exe You will be greeted with the VROOT Setup Screen.
Click the Next button. You will be taken to the screen where you can chose where the installer, installs the program. You can chose a directory or use the default. Use the default.
Click the Next button. The next screen will ask you if you want the program to be put in your Start Menu, this is up to you.
Click the Next Button. The next the screen will ask if you want to place a Shortcut on your desktop, again this is up to you.
Click the Next Button. The program will now install it self. It should only take a couple of seconds. once the installer is done you will see the Setup Complete screen. Make sure the Launch VROOT box has a check in it and click the Finish Button.
The VROOT program will open. You will see a screen saying Device is connecting. After a moment the program will install daemon.
Step: 2
For the program to recognize you phone, you will need to turn on Usb Debugging on, on your phone. To do this on your phone go to Settings / Developers Options
Scroll down to the Debugging Section. Look for USB debugging and click on it.
A warning will pop up saying Allow USB debugging, select OK
After you turn on Usb Debugging a second warning should pop up on your phone asking if you wanna allow Usb debugging between your computer and phone. Check the always allow and then OK. Checking Always makes it so you do not have see that warning everything. Your computer and phone will allow debugging connect every time you connect in that mode.
Step 3
Now back on your PC you should see VROOT trying to connect to your phone. Once it connects you should see your phones model number on the screen. T599N
VROOT will now check to see if your phone already has root permission. VROOT will tell you, you do not have root.
The green root button in the bottom right corner should now be available. Press the Root button.
You will see the Rooting now screen. This should only take a moment to complete.
When VROOT is done, you will see a screen saying Success, your T599N is rooted. Rebooting.
You can now click complete, you are done with the VROOT program.
Step 4
You Exhibit will now reboot back into the Android OS
Once you are back at your home screen, open the app drawer in the bottom right hand corner to show all your phone apps. Scroll all the way to the right. You should now have two new apps installed on your phone. Superuser and one that is in Chinese. The one in Chinese was installed when VROOT told you it was installing daemon. You will no longer need that app.
The Superuser app is the one we want. This app regulates which app you grant root permission to. Just open the app. Make sure it does no tell you, you do not have root permission.
Now my suggestion here is to get a different app to do the same thing. The one you should use is SuperSU by Chainfire from the Play Store. Go to the Play Store and in the search look for SuperSU. There are 2 verions, a free one and a paid one. The free on works just fine.
Install this version. You will now have a app that looks like a Superman symbol with a # inside of it. Open the app. Make sure SuperSU does not tell you, you do not have root.
Now anytime a app requests root, a warning will pop up from SuperSU asking if you want to allow that app root access.
You have the option to Deny or Grant that app root. You can also check the Ask again box. If you check this box and Grant a app root, after some time SuperSU will pop up again asking the same thing. If you chose to Grant a app root without checking the box, that app will have full root access anytime you use it.
If you Deny it then the app will not have root access and not work the way it was ment to.
And that's it guys. You now have root access on your Metro PCS Samsung Galaxy Exhibit SGH-T599N

still working, EXE auto-updated, then i followed simple instructions, and the device rebooted with root.
vroot does install its own Super User Permission Management app, and a System Cleaner app (which are both actually useful), and some other junk (i uninstalled this). all their apps seem to have links to their other apps/appstore, but as long as you ignore them the apps themselves seem to be harmless enough.
I must write this guide because I spent yesterday 6 hours of doing all of following steps (together with 2 useless firmware flashes and other worthless stuff). Why? Because it was really complicated for someone who is not really familiar with all the names, definitions etc. I just wanted to have my tablet rooted, keep my warranty and use my external SD card without limitations. It is not easy but it is DIFFICULT to find these few steps on XDA forum in tens of topics with many information posts and garbage around.
Important thing is that you can do these steps WITHOUT loosing any data! (Which I lost yesterday because of my lacking information.)
Here we go (written without tablet around, so some things can be generalised):
I did it on Z2 Tablet 511, firmware .402 (no need to downgrade as I did at the beginning...)
1. Open up your device’s “Settings”. Now scroll to the bottom and tap “About phone” or “About tablet”. At the “About” screen, scroll to the bottom and tap on “Build number” seven times. Make sure you tap seven times. You will then see a notice that you are now a developer.
2. Now you should have Developer options in the System settings. Go there, enable USB debugging.
3. Again in Settings go to Security options and allow installations from Uknown source.
4. Download Easy Root v5 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53448680 (guide is there also)
5. Download Backup TA v9.11 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598 (optional for backing up your system info if you will later unlock your phone, install new ROMs etc. But if you need just root, it is not necessary. But it is recommended so you can be sure that you can get your tablet to the default status when it was bought and you can make a complaint in case something else will break down.)
6. Connect your tablet to your pc normally. Just have your tablet switched on and use USB cabel. Let it install all drivers.
7. Run Easy Root v5 (install.bat) and your tablet will be rooted in few seconds
8. For TA backup run Backup-TA.bat. Follow instructions and save your TA files. It will be created in the folder from which you run the applications. It is compressed in one file. Save it somewhere and keep it!
9. Reboot
10. If you want to use external card without limitations, install SD fix https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
For common users who want to install apps which need root and do not want to install custom ROMs or do another tricky stuff this process is enough. Enjoy your tablet now .
There can be maybe some problems with drivers. Then you can try install PC Companion which should install everything for you. http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/pc-companion/
Another thing from @stress40 who had also problems rooting the tablet:
1) I used easy root tool (on windows with Android SDK installed, ADB drivers etc)
2) extract easyroot v5 onto desktop (keeping extracted files together in a folder)
3) download towelroot.apk and put in Files folder of towelroot
4) reboot phone then plug in phone and double kick install.bat (so you get the ADB message on phone) and most importantly DON'T LET YOUR*PHONE*SCREEN*TURN*OFF (mine did so was stuck at waiting for phone but as soon as I turned it on it was fine) I was rooted in a few minutes after double clicking install.bat.
Good job, beats people having 3 tabs open trying to dissect which steps they should be following and then trying to piece together the timeline of events with other people screaming "read and search"
Sorry you lost data though, have you tried out Sony's backup app that for me was embedded in "tools" folder in app drawer? I hadn't noticed it for a while.

Not a big issue for me at this time. I just had to reinstall everything but data etc. are on cloud plus I have titanium backup just it was not used . For me tablet must be ready for summer when I will be off home. Now it's ok.
And yeah, there are like 8 topics with 49 pages in 5 subforums and then try and go through it. I don't know why there was no simple guide like this before. Only updated long ago created topics in first post plus other mess around in tens of threads.
Good guide for those who want to root it; and exactly the steps I followed, so I can confirm (again) that this method works like a charm.:good:

A recovery makes it easy to 'flash' kernels, roms etc that come in zip files as well as make a nandroid backup. If you see yourself doing this, then yes install a recovery system. As a whole, it doesn't hurt to have one installed.

permission denied
Hey, thanks for a great guide!
All steps went smoothly and for the most part my Tablet Z2 now appears to be rooted.
For instance MyBackup Pro, Tasker, Secure Settings, App Quarantine all work.
However, there are some apps that have issues and they complain about permission denied in /system folder.
Apps are
BusyBox (unable to install binaries),
SuperSU (I was able to install it from Play Store, but as soon as I start it it tries to update to latest version, which fails)
AdAway (fails to apply hosts file)
Any ideas?
Your /system folder is not mounted with r/w permissions.
How do I do that?
I tried this app: Mount /system (rw / ro)
But it did not help
Is the only solution to install a custom recovery? Would be nice to avoid a full wipe if possible.

Your device is not properly rooted.
Please re-root.
All other attemps only lead to problems.
Perhaps you try the XZDualRecovery (rooting is included in the installation procedure), worked like a charm here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794175
Ok, so you are saying that the method mentioned in the first post in this thread is not the proper way to do it?

Unlocking your boot loader is only needed off you're going to flash non-stock roms like CM or kernels that require it. If you only need root, there's no need to unlock your bootloader.

Thanks for the completely bland and incorrect Guide! Nowhere in that ZIP archive is a file called "CheckBeforeActivation". With many hundreds of thousands of these devices in the marketplace, do your fellow XDA members and GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU POST!!!:silly:
The file was removed as it was it copy of another file

This method works on my zenfone 4 where else fail using fastboot zip file method
Thanks for posting this!
how come you cant update supersu??
I tried this method to root my device, I have a BBY build. The application says it rooted okay. When I reboot the device and try to install BusyBox it says it doesn't get a response from the device. When I check root with Root Checker Basic it says that the device is not rooted. Any thoughts on what I might be missing?
Is the super user app installed?

its safe to update it now..before it would remove superuser and you would have to factory reset the re-root
To the OP, it looks like you just reposted the work of twenty-three pin from here:
https://translate.google.de/transla...sts/247110-merry-christmas&edit-text=&act=url
Too bad when you were stealing someone else's work you didn't work slowly enough to notice that he mentions that the Asus 572C should use V2 of his work:

Hope this helps someone.
If you check the commands int the .bat file, you will see they are different... Its just basic fastboot commands. And as of recent updates the me572 can't be rooted using this method. So I'll head back to the drawing board as soon as I get time to

Thanks, but meanwhile I've rooted with this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/memo-pad-7/help/rooting-memo-pad-7-rootzenfone-t3000389 and also updated without problem.
Also no need for ADB with that method.
