First off I have to say I really love the wealth of information on these forums. By far the best on the web.
I have rooted. Installed cwm. Backup current rom in cwm.
I'm thinking of trying dj05 if the rumored update doesn't come this week and maybe jts clean rom.
My question primarily is on getting my contacts restored. Use vzw backup or export to SD and then import into new contacts app? Too many to lose or have to try to manually reenter.
Second with say the clean Tom does Google now work when tapping the search softkey instead of Bing?
Looked through as much starter info as I could and saw nothing on the contacts issue

I would do all of the above concerning contacts...just in case....i've always stored my contacts thru google that way i can edit them on my laptop.

Just wondering what is the fastest or easiest method to completely copy over everything from one vibrant to another as I just got my replacement today. I would love to copy all my apps and settings. Also will I lose all the apps I purchased? Thanks!!

No ideas? I guess I'll just start doing it the old fashion way lol
Your contacts, calendar should be synced to gmail already. Try using mybackup pro or titanium backup for things like app data but I believe you still have to download the apps to your phone again. Purchased apps are saved to your purchase history via gmail

If your are rooted use Titanium Back up. MyBackup Pro is good for things like text.

[Q] CM6-RC Post Flash: What The HECK Happened to my CONTACTS???!!!
OK, I flashed the ROM to the CM6-RC. I lost every single contact on my SIM card, which means I lost ALL of my contacts!!!!
What the heck did I do? I used the Lookout restore, (yes, they all backed up successfully during the normal Lookout process), but they don't restore to the SIM!
Is there a setting somewhere in there that I missed?
Also, is there a better Contacts App then this one? I really don't like everything defaulting to Google!
Does ANYONE know if anything has been done via nightly releases or any other means that addresses the issue that the CM6 does NOT read the SIM card? I desperately need to get my contacts info off of the SIM and into the phone!
I DO NOT want to:
A) Re-flash my phone, get my contacts, and re-flash the phone again
B) Manually add my contacts 1 by 1
C) Have all of my contacts entered as Google contacts, (which the CM6 will do if they are on the phone) so that I can sync them back to the phone.
(THERE IS A REASON MY CONTACTS WERE ON THE SIM IN THE FIRST PLACE! TO PROTECT THE PRIVACY INFORMATION OF MY CLIENTS!)
Are there other Contact apps out there that DO read the SIM card that I can install? As far as I am concerned, this is the only major drawback of this ROM. Everything else is phenomenal!
You could use Funambol then export to a *.vcf. Then import in to Google then it should sync from then on...
Have you checked that you are not filtering them out of the list. There is a menu setting to hide SIM contacts.

Merged threads.
This is a question, it is NOT development. Please stop making new threads in development for them, as you already had a thread open (albeit in the wrong place).
Refer to the forum rules for more information.

God forbid you should have to do ANYTHING to work around something that is not working in a RC rom...
Flash your phone back to one of the htc based roms I think all of them (liberated/stock) can read sim contacts, export your contacts to a vcf on your sd card or your pc, reflash cm6, turn off google sync, import your contacts.
I know its totally rocket surgery.

Another problem with this RC-1 is that some apps do not install... Anyone else having this issue?

Sorry for opening the duplicate thread. It was an honest mistake. I would delete the duplicate if I were able to. Again, my apologies.
Pquegg, Sarcasm is for those who do not know how to be understanding of others' needs, and have no people skills! If I were well versed on how to work with the code I would be able to do as you imply! To me, it is like rocket science. That is why I am asking for HELP! DUH!

I was out in the middle of nowhere today and had to turn off data, restarted the phone cause it was acting funny. Added a contact and got a list to add it to the phone or account. I chose gmail contact.
Now my contacts seem to be sluggish. I notice it in texting, openning a conversation, the images flash like its lagging to load the contacts images.
Ive restarted a few times and its not fixing it. I send a text in a already going conversation and the contact images flash as though its reloading them, including mine in the "ME" contact
I get a text and the contact images flash, even mine
Something i just remember also. At one point today it seemed the contacts where lost and it only displayed phone numbers, including mine

Ok its not just me then! However, i had not noticed this happening before this out in the middle of nowhere issue today.
I did have a bit of issues getting my contacts to load from similar, after I first updated. I decide to clear all data from the contacts apparently, then just install all the contacts from googlemail. Now it all works fine.
How do you clear all data from contacts? I was thinking remove the account reboot and add the account again.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
OK scratch that. I can't remove the account. It wont let me
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
I just went into phone settings then applications, then running apps then click on contacts and click clear data.
Screw it. I'm gonna reset tonight and redo the whole thing. Clearing that and resyncing did nothing. I just had a moment where I had no contact names listed in texting, just phone numbers. Just before I tried that clearing.

Will you let us know if a reset solves this? I am having the same issue.
Thanks

I reset 351 and just signed into google account, synced and still had the issue. Im back on 318 and looking for a way to disable the update notifacations for 351.
How big is your dialer storage under manage applications? If its over a couple mb's you need to go through your texts and delete the mms/pictures people have sent you. Mine got up to 20mb's at one point, phone was laggy as hell. If you don't care to retain Txt's you could just clear the dialer storage......

same prob here. this "improved" suxx0r big time!
Tried 354 and same problem. I don't understand why there aren't more complaints about this. Or maybe we are doing something wrong?

are you restoring your apps and whatever after update from titanium backup? I noticed the issue after updating from titanium backup, before i ran this just after i'd updated the contacts where working fine. But obviously I needed to update all my apps, after i'd ran the titanium restore it all went wrong. Maybe try restoring you contacts through titanium again see if that sorts it out?
I do not restore anything. I use appmonster pro to reinstall all of my apk's and sync to google for my contacts. The only thing i import is bookmarks for browser. I do all of the same stuff with 318 on 2 sets and they dont have the problems
streakmod 1.9 is very stable and is pretty quick with the perfmod on, maybe try that?
Oh really I think titanium backup is the best thing I've ever purchased on the market, would have been gutted if I'd lost all my angry birds high scores!
I face the same problem.
I think this started form the 2.2.2 version.
is there any program like kies?
mainly for contact back up or edit ,
There are plenty of apps to backup contacts. I don't know why you'd ever want to use Kies though, so I can't really offer something that's like it.
There is also myPhoneExplorer:
http://www.fjsoft.at/en/
When i backed up and restored my contacts with Kies, i recognized that the resolution of the caller pictures was reduced dramatically. Maybe a misconfiguration or maybe fixed in newer releases (?)
To backup my contacts i use the builtin feature save to/restore from SD card. This saves everything except the call groups. And be sure to check that you don't import your contacts to your google account when you restore the contacts from SD card
thanx i will try it
You could always try the ever popular "mybackup" from the market...

Why not just sync with google?
Always backed up in real time.
Or am I missing something.

Not everyone likes to have his/her contacts uploaded to Google
True. I was thinking that, but somehow I think Google gets them anyway.

Welcome to Android and XDA. :good: Don't forget to glance over the forum rules and always check out the stickies posted in each forum section (they have a thumbtack image next to them and never move from the top section). They contain valuable info for newcomers.
Both your questions are really all about personal preference. No single app's importance is the same to everyone. My advice to you being new to Android and all is to go into Google Play Store and just browse the list of top paid and free apps. This will give you a good idea of what a majority of users are downloading and using the most. Likely there will be numerous apps in there you will find beneficial. Remember one thing though, rooted users have more app options than non-rooted so just keep that in mind. Some apps require root access and will state that in the description. Once you use your device a bit more you will get a feel for what type of tasks you do most often and what apps might make the experience better.
As for contacts, there are different options for this. I would say since most have a Gmail account to access the Play Store, get email, etc. they will use Gmail to auto backup/restore contacts, calendar, tasks between the cloud and the device. I believe Samsung also will back this up for you which, if you have a Samsung account, is native on the S4 already. To give more direction would have to know what you are using on your PC for mail client, how you are using it, etc.
Favorite app is drop box
For backing up I do this. Open contacts> hit menu> hit import/export> then pick any of the export functions.
When restoring for the last step just use the corresponding import function.
