[Q] how to access text messages? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Hi,
I'm trying to build a small app that is able to import and export text messages.
I've not been able to find any decent documentation on how to access the text messages on my WM 6.5 device.
Could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

You can get at it through the Pocket Outlook Object Model, a.k.a. POOM, but it is a bit of a pig to use, even at the best of times.
Start Here :- http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa914277.aspx

There is a programm called sms-import (see e.g. here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=499230- it exports and imports messages as xml file... i used it to export- import messages from my nokia to my HD2 - its kind of ***** as it wont work with too many messages at once and it somehow screwed up the dates of the messages. programm to export and then to manually add other messages would be freaking sweet!
good luck!

Distribution Lists in Outlook

Is there anyway to creat distribution lists in Pocket Outlook on the Tytn???
I would certainly like to know if there is.
I have the same problem for sending texts to groups, only way i found was to make one message and select all the recipients you would normally wish to send to then copy and paste them into a note, save the note and copy paste it back to new e-mails / texts.
Only thing i really missed about my nokia used to be able to send a text etc to a group
you might wanna check this out.

Thats exactly the sort of program i needed and works a treat.
Thanks for taking the time to post it up.

Your question is confusing, are you wanting the sms program? Every rom I have tried so far has sms included. Maybe give a little more info on what your wanting and someone could point you in the right direction.
Confusing boog321 is an understatement ,more like a totally weird request, are you on about picture messages and being able to receive them or just receiving standard txt messages.
Or are you on about transferring your sms messages to your PC from your Wizard? If so use PPCPim Backup or use Jeyo Mobile Extender which will allow you to transfer the sms's to a folder in outlook.
As boog321 stated please clarify what it is exactly that you wish to do.

Not quite sure why you'd want to do it but you could back up the texts using PPC Pimbackup (don't use compression), then edit the data file in Excel, the restore the 'amended' file.
the text messages are saved in some file? if yes where can i find it...
so you want to make out....
that someone has said something when really they have not?

yes. Export with SmsImport (free), then edit the xml and reimport. To make it work, you should have to enable the "use Unicode when needed". Doing this since some week not to "fake" an sms, but to import my old 1.500 messages from my old platform (Palm+Motorola). Anyway, you could also use it to fake.
Hi, is found this Thread and uses SMSImport to transfer my SMS from an old Phone to an new one. But the times of the imported SMS are wrong (3 hours later than original). The time in the xml file is the right one. Is there any chance to fix this?
Where you able to modify the timestamp and have it show up once you reimported the xml file?

HOW to save my sms on pc in txt format? HELP!

Hello guys, i have a lot of sms texts that i have from my girl, and i wish to save all the sms she ever sent to me on the pc. But how can i export al my sms to the pc? Because if i use pim backup i cant read it on my pc! Help please!
Hi. You can export the SMS's with the tool SMSImport. This tool lets you save the messages to a *.xml. These files you can easily open with Notepad on your PC and save them as *.txt e.g.
Cheers.
Can you tell me where are my messages are stored on my x1? because i cant find it :/
You just have to put the program to your phone and click then "export...". Then you can select a place on your phone where you want to save your exported *.xml (only one file for all messages).
Did it work? Or just get a trail version of Jeyo Mobile Companion (google that) and you even can watch all the messages both of you wrote in a chat window. That is pretty and easy at the same time. Just a little hint...
it works, but all my messages are messed up and its a little hard to see who send me what etc.. ill try this trail later! thanks
To bring some structure in the *.xml you can open the file with Excel.
id use microsoft myphone then save them online then copy and paste them to pc ... word notepad etc.

Imported SMS have wrong datestamp in threads

Hi all,
so I went from WM6.5 to Gingerbread on my HD2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2071440). Before doing so, I backed up all I needed to my laptop, including my three years worth of text messages. I used PpcPIMBackup and SMSExporter to be sure.
Once the device was finally running with Android, I went on to import the thousands of SMS using "SMS Backup & Restore" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&hl=en). A few hours later, all my SMS were successfully imported except that
- they are sorted by "conversation" then by "date", and
- all conversations have the datestamp of the day of the import (opening a conversation and looking at one particular message, they have the correct sender, datestamp, etc...).
So, two questions :
- What went wrong ?
- Can I sort my SMS by "date" first and not by "conversation" ? I can't seem to find any options to sort messages by anything else, say by sender for instance.
Txs.
PS : happy to erase all, and re-import using any other tool, remember I have one "PIB" file from PIMBackup and one "XML" file from SMS B&R.
