So I found this great app that tells me how much life I have left on my battery. I find that with my phone I can hardly go pass 16 hours with MODERATE use yet everyone here is bragging about easily passing 30hrs with HEAVY use. So I'm asking you guys, to please, download this app called BatteryTime Lite and post your pics or info here. Lets compare the results. Remember to set the level to 100% as shown in my pic below..
Also I herd the P/N might be related, mine is 99HKE002-00 F ..Guessing F means Failure.

No, stock. Why you ask?
i read somewhere that Stock and Cyanogen's ROM have display consuming a lot of battery... its fixed on enomther's and modaco's desire port...
On Cyanogen and Stock, Display consumes ~60% battery while on Enomther's and MoDaCo's desire port, display consumes 15~20% battery...

Thats what I herd too..thats why I'm also calling google a lier about saying this thing lasts 20hours with audio playback.
I'm curious, do they see a big improvement in battery when the display using 15-20% battery or its just numbers that were out a place to begin with?
I have identical figures. That combined with picking the N1 from a list says to me that these are just database figures rather than real world ones for your handset.
Root your phone and then install cyanogenmod and one of the under volted kernels. I usually get 24 - 30 hours battery life.
I just ran a test. I left the mp3 player on all night turn all the way on repeat. SO far after 8hrs of playing I was at 52%. If I'm correct, I just might be able to hit 18hrs...MMMM

Completely far from the part that I said google lied. Though I'm planning to root if the next update does not improve or fix these issues.

No problems at all? no 3g issues?, battery only lasting a day or half? or touch screen issues?
Ok after 100% charge..the app is telling me that my phone will last 10hr:48min with moderate use....anyone thinking that the F on my P/N might mean battery sucker..
i have the exact same numbers as you. if you choose other instead of the phone type it asks you to enter your battery's info so it sounds like it only goes by the type of battery anyway. Not actual usage specific to your phone
My phone ends in an F as well. My battery life SUCKS right now. I have tried everything. The weird thing is it was good until I rooted my phone and applied Cyanogen rom. I've tried .2 and .3 for the Cyan rom's, all with bad battery life. I've tried wiping batterystats, fulling draining battery then recharging, task killer to wipe anything in the background, I even have a 2nd battery. No luck. I've also tried the undervolted kernal, but I didn't really notice a difference with it. (Only tried it for about a day so)
Bottom line though, something is going on. Something (I suspect with Cyan's roms) is killing battery life for some of us. I just wish I could figure out what it is.

Any chance you're using Weatherbug or Weatherbug elite (based on your SS)? After installing weatherbug and using the widget I got absolutely ABYSMAL battery life. I've purchased several other weather widgets and none had the effect that Weatherbug did for some reason. I removed it and battery life is back to normal again (moderate use and plenty of battery at the end of the day).

no problems AT ALL
no dead pixels
no purple tint, crystal clear and saturated colors
battery lasts 1.5+ days
3G (at&t) is almost ALWAYS there and quick as balls
palm reach thing is gone.. i mean, i had the t-mob version before this one and its exponentially a better experience all around.
data is QUICK too... i mean quick
How long your battery lasts definitely depends on the apps youre using, I use my phone a lot, probably more than the average user, although i dont make many calls. My phone will easily last from when I leave my house around 530am till 11pm or so when I go to bed. I do use a task manager to kill stuff I dont need running every once in a while, I think it really just depends on how you use it. I use it for a lot of texting, surfing and news, and Pandora at work. I use wifi when im at home although ive never noticed it eating my battery. Yesterday I was playing Pandora over bluetooth on 3G for a little over 3 hours and it only took 5% of my battery. Im on Cyanogen 5.0.5.3, if that matters. With all that said I rarely go all day without charging it, I usually plug it in a bit at work and plug it in when I get home, but if I dont for whatever reason it easily lasts my whole day.
Im able to run my phone for over 20 hours with sync and data on.
How I managed it:
1. Deleted almost every app
2. Flashed 8/25
3. Switched to Launcher Pro
4. Go to CyanogenMod Settings>User Interface> Automatic Backlight> Enable
5. Go to Spare Parts> End Button behavior > Set Go to Sleep
5. Wiped dalvik cache
6. Recharged to full
7. While at 100% charging, wiped battery stats
8. Unplug and let the phone drain to 0% (let it turn off)
9. Recharge and enojoy
If succesfull backup
Im using the stock kerned with NO battery tweak. I tried it but since I didnt see any improvement I took it out. 8/25 is amazingly fast with launcher Pro so I dont see the point in changing anything else to my Hero. Now I only install Apps that I really want or that wont keep my phone awake. I use pure calendar, handcent, beautiful widgets...stuff like that
Now after 10 months of use im really enjoying my HERO. I hope this helps those of you that are trying to improve your battery life.

genius.
they kept auto installing after flashing a new Rom lol
Im no expert but I figured I had to uninstall them before flashing
How I got 70+ hours of battery
1. Used CM6 Nightly
2. Used TweakTool(still in development http://tweaktool.com but it is the same as collin_ph's battery tweak essentially)
3. Used Decad3nce's experimental BFS kernel
4. Left 3g off unless I needed it
5. ????
6. PROFIT
I have 3g on all the time
The best I have pulled on my phone was 32 hours with twenty percent left this was with light to avg use with 3g turned off, unless o needed it....
I was on nightly 8/24 with uncapped kernel #8

Why? You can use an app like JuiceDefender to set it to turn on every 5 or 10 minutes to allow updates and set it to keep 3g on when the screen is on, could save you some battery
Sounds good ill try it. Thanks

Juice defender destroyed my phones battery life, even when I configured it all, it just drained, drained, drained.
Auto brightness is a waste of battery to me, i set it to 30% and forget it.
My phone makes it through the day, thats all I need. About 30% at 10 pm, off the charger at 7am.

Same here. With Juice Defender I was lucky if my charge held through my lunch break at work.
The biggest battery save for me is to turn off 3G until I have to use it. By the time I go to bed I still have 40-50 percent charge on my phone.
Tried juice defender for around 5 hours and didn't work. At 30% said I had 2 more hours left. During the first hour after setup it drained 9%. That's a lot. Uninstalled

Well fear not citizens, for soon, tweaktool will be released (hopefully soon, depends on how much time i have laying around to program it) and will work for any phone, any rom, etc. Also gonna have new features eventually like 3g off when screen off, and a few other things, spread the word http://tweaktool.com
strange I've always had good luck with juice defender. Lately though with how well cm6 is on the battery I've been setting juice defender to only shut off 3g when the screens off and turn it on every hour for 5 minutes to update. My batter life is pretty amazing right now.

man you must have a crappy battery then. all i id was turn my 3g off when i dont need it. I had wifi going, gps going(and used both quite a bit). Made a handful of phone calls lasting about 10 minutes each. i have 16/hrs 49/min since unplugged right now and im at 77%. I must be doing something different cuz i can have my phone off the charger for around 2 days and still have about 20% left before i charge it.

Put me on your tester list, please!
first off, i love this phone. no joke, but the battery is well...laughable to say the least. on my HD2 running android, i get double the battery life and they HD2's battery is a 1200 battery, the EVO'S is a 1500. and android boots off the SD CARD and has NO POWER MANAGEMENT on HD2'S. my evo dropped to 54 percent battery today in 3.5 hours. no wifi, no bluetooth, no GPS and no 4G...all im saying is... WHAT THE ****!
It gets better. Load up some custom kernals + setcpu and you'll get great life. I'm running CM6 + snap 8.2 and it lasts the whole day with moderate use.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
There is plenty of info on battery issues with EVO.
First... I would recommend rooting.
Second, use the FRESH build based off the new OTA leak.
Finally, change Settings / Mobile Networks / [uncheck] Enable Always-on
Then... ALWAYS keep your WiFi radio on. Add your home network if you have one... and wherever you go, add whatever hotspots you are in proximity of.
And if you ever consider doing a new build, backup your WiFi access point data via Titanium Backup before you do.
That should just about cover it... You will get a full day of use PLUS some out of that battery.

When you rooted it, did you also flash the newest radios? Trust me on the fresh build.. it rocks... but also, most importantly, use WiFi whenever possible... and turn off "always update"... those are all the most important.

No when I got my evo I was clearly.told and shown a doc from sprint (the manager over mobile area is a buddy) to tell everyone to expect 6 hours of battery life with normal use. I was able to squeeze out 8 - 9 myself. I know people say conditioning the battery is a waste of time . IMHO do it I noticed a nice increase in battery life. I have to laugh at people who get pissy about battery life when they are holding a mini PC.
Myself i avg. 18-20 hours a charge with normal use. I have 2 backup batteries so I don't worry to much about juice
from the fade
I really dont feel the Evo is a bad phone h, hell I love the damn thing . I just feel HTC kinda screwed up things in the process . One telling customers to expect 6 hours of use is alittle of a joke . Who the hell only works six hours a day ? Or is that six hours also include you getting up getting ready for work then coming home before you go to bed ? Second , its pretty clear the Evo has a bug in its charging system . People have reported that using stand alone wall chargers to charge the batteries they are getting improved life out of the batteries (Sorry I have never removed a battery from any cellphone I have had in the past to charge it and not gonna start now) . Third yes the HTC Evo is litterally a pocket pc with capabilities most phones dream of having . Then why the hell did they give it a 1500mah battery ? Thats like strapping a 55 gallon drum of fuel to the space shuttle and saying "Yeah this outta make it" . Sorry for my rant had to get it out (plugs phone in to charge again) LOL
OP, I like you, you're funny
A couple things..
1) Why do you have your CPU governed below 700mHz while awake??? You won't save battery that way, your phone runs at a gHz, use it!!
2) Setting your min/max both at 245 on sleep will actually decrease your battery life and your phones wake up performance, maybe not much. Capping your phone at 245 when asleep makes it a harder transition to awake because it makes that sudden jump when you wake it up. Setting your max somewhere over 600 on asleep, and setting it to OnDemand will ease the transition from sleep to awake.
There is no shortage of battery life tips but here's one: The auto rotate function polls for g-sensor status like once every 15 milliseconds. I use a switch on my homescreen to turn it on when I want it and keep it locked in portrait when I don't need it. This will help conserve some juice
I'm only scratching the surface here, I'm sure you do realize what a wealth of info there is on the subject already. FWIW, I use the crap out of this phone and I consistently get 20+ hours out of a charge. Good battery performance is achievable!

20+ Damn, what rom and kernel are you using? Im kinda having the same problems too. Im limiting my phone tryin to get better batt, that ****ing sucks. I just want to use my damn phone, without much sacrifice. Thanks
Why the hell do you have 4 phones running the same OS?
Alright, so here's how it goes. I happen to be really anal about battery life, and if I come home from a 8 hour day and I have less than 50% of battery life, it just bothers me.
So, with a bit of reading, I have my phone set up to where I get almost 24 hours of battery life. So here are the steps I took to achieve that:
Have all the basics down:
Be on the lowest brightness (because even that is extremely bright) unless in extraordinary situations.
Always use wifi over 3G/2G and use bluetooth and the GPS as little as possible.
Also don't install any task killers - they do more harm than good.
1. Flashthe Bionix ROM. For those of you who haven't done it yet, you are missing a lot. The speed of ROM is incredible and has a lot of little tweaks that will improve battery life. Don't be afraid to root and flash these ROMS - they have been throughly tested and proved to almost always solve problems instead of creating new ones! Make sure to download the Bionix ROM that runs on the J12 modem. Pick it up here:
HTML:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782027
2. Wipe battery stats!!! This one is without a doubt the most critical. I did this and my battery life increased by more than 2X. Make sure you follow the instructions that state:
1. Charge phone completely, leave plugged into power
2. Boot into recovery
3. Wipe battery stats
4. Reboot
5. Remove power cable
6. Drain that sucker all the way
7. Recharge fully
8. Rejoice!"
Click to collapse
To do step 6, I had my phone at full brightness with Bluetooth and GPS on, with Pandora running all while recording a HD video. It drained it pretty damn quick lol.
3. Install Autokiller from the market, and apply the Aggressive preset. This will really lower CPU usage, and really speeds up your phone. This is NOT a task killer, this just allocates memory more harshly.
4. Install JuiceDefender, and have it enabled at all times... A lot of people have had mixed results with this. Mainly, it will turn of data while your phone is asleep, but turning data on and off is a battery drainer. Juicedefender will automatically recognize what settings will produce the most preservation of battery for your phone, so leave it at the default settings. It all depends on how often you use your phone, and what your data connection is like in the areas you reside. It does great things for most people, so I really suggest you try it out. Make sure you download the "battery" version and not the beta.
5. Have all apps/widgets that regularly stream information to the lowest interval possible. Let's be honest, you don't need your Facebook widget to be refreshing every 5min, so set it at an hour.
With all this done, I am at this very moment at 44% battery with a little over 13 hours of use. Even if I had my phone asleep the entire time, 24 hours is a lot better than what most people would seem to get. My day usually consists of 20min of talk time, 30 min of texting, 40 min of browsing, 30 min of gaming, 1 hour of music playing, and a bit of picture taking/editing. My phone is asleep for a long periods of time while I am at school. Yes I don't use my phone as heavily as some do, but if it guarantees me a full day of battery, I don't mind too much.
I don't really see how this can't work for others. We have the exact same hardware, and the exact same battery. You may use the phone more than I and pump out a few hours less, but still get over 15 hours.
Hope this helped!

I would specify what settings you use on JuiceDefender, because it really depends on what settings you use and such. You made this guide to help people, so don't leave them wondering.
I would include other ways to save battery life, even if they have been said over and over, just so no one misses anything.
Also, with Bionix you will probably want to only recommend the JI2 modem, because it is not universally accepted that JI6 helps battery life, in fact it is quite the contrary.

I'm bone stock just running LP and I'm pretty sure I get better battery than that. My buddy with a Fascinate has been getting excellent battery life too. Not really sure how some of you guys are able to kill it so quickly

Its easy. They play with their phones constantly, they leave 3g on, Wifi on. They stream pandora all day.

Aside from steaming pandora all day I'm doing all that too. Wifi always on, gps navigation, watching youtube/nfl app videos, twitter/email throughout the day, forums, etc. The only way I can kill my phone anywhere near that fast is hours of constant video steaming over 3g
Edit: oh, and angry birds all day every day, haha

Agreed, I moderately use my phone the whole day and I am left with 25-30% after a 15 hour day. Its not necessary to have max brightness, 3g, bt, syncing, wifi, tons of widgets on all day.
My secret was just getting another battery sent to me. The one that came with teh phone jus wasnt all that great. New one lasts 4 to 5 hours longer doing the same things.
I leave bluetooth on all the time. Never turn it off. Only turn on GPS when needed. And at work where i dont usually get wifi, i leave 2G on most of the time unless i need it to be faster for something, but most times, 2G is fine for tweets and emails. Of course it all depends on how much im using it. I use it if i have to. If the battery is lower than usual when i get home, who cares? I charge it up over night every night anyways. I'm not anal that way.
Most ive got for a day is 18 hours. Had 17 or so many times and had a little over 16 hours today w/ 10% left but plugged it in anyways.
My secret Is to leave the music playing overnight. With headphones.

It's really hard to screw up. (assuming you have made it though an educational system successfully)

No, because this phone is unbrickable. You just need average reading comprehension and moderate computer literacy.
On a side note, the recommended autokiller setting is far too high. It kills anything after you exit out of it. (i.e. checking a text, it will kill the texting program after exiting) I lowered a few levels to see if I'll keep it.
added to the thread Mark. You are right, having it at such a high level will not only kill some running apps, but those apps will go onto restart, which kills battery. I think the "aggressive" setting is most suitable, or the lowest preset where your phone is still fast enough.

Interesting...great write up.
So would you say Bionix is the the best ROM for the Vibrant? There are so many ROMS's out there and I can imagine how it would confuse the heck out of those who are looking for the best ROM available to date for our phones.
What are your thoughts?
Before I was a behavioral therapist I worked for a small (lol) company called Applied Materials. And there I worked as a project manager. And what I learned there was the importance of following procedure, something most here seem to fail doing. I know I'm not the only one tired of seeing at least 2-3 threads a day pop up complaining how adryns or blah blahs rom is giving you horrible battery life. Have you stopped and thought for a second that it may have something to do on your part? Let me rephrase that, it is something to do with you. There are procedures before flashing...for example, flashing on a full charge is ALWAYS recommended. Second, wipe wipe and wipe again. I hope you don't wipe your ass the same way you do your phone. You stop to think for a second that flashing two themes a day isn't going to f things up with your battery if you're not following proper protocol? Why is it some people don't have issues and some do? It's simple, you f'd it up.
And for the record, the reason I posted this is to stress the importance of following the rules, bc when there really is an issue, it's like "the boy who cried wolf". We don't know which is legit and the other is just some kid too hyped to get that blackhole or superclean and cuts corners.
This thread drained my battery real bad.

It could just be the fact that the Fascinate gets crap battery life in general. I get crappy battery life no matter what. Thanks for the useless post tho. Hopefully mine is just as wothless.

The fascinate is proven to get better battery life then the droid amoung many other androids. I get maybe 16 hours of heavy use. I've been on this forum all day running superclean 2.1 with voodoo and still have 37% left...yeah that's some ****ty battery life for ya lol
Edit: maybe the majority of us getting around 15+ hours are just on some really good dope.
Droid? Which droid? Certainly not the Droid X, I had one and battery life was way better. I dont know anybody that gets more than 10 hours on heavy use. Sure you can get more if you dont actually use your phone as a phone.

Lmfao...really? Then why is my cousin who has an x charging his phone while im sitting here on his couch still posting. Before you post again take a peek...i've been trollon this forum for 12 hours now.
I followed everything to a T the second time around. My first time flashing superclean I was getting less than stellar battery life. Second time around I wiped data, cache, dalvik, and battery stats multiple times while on a full charge.
I've had my phone off the charger for 13 hours now and I am at ~60%. I haven't used it as heavy as normal, but even under heavy load I am getting much better battery than my first time around.
In "16 hours of heavy use", how much of that time was your screen active? You can look in Settings -> About -> Battery Use -> Display. "Heavy use" is a fairly imprecise term, since what one person might consider heavy use might be 'fairly light' to another.

All right, I have to admit, that right there is pretty funny!
I agree with your post, thought. Every time a new rom is released, the next several days are filled with complaints about the battery life. If you follow the procedure for resyncing the battery stats, your battery life will be back.

I get good battery life...so this isn't a fact for me.
The most important thing to keep in mind is battery life is SUBJECTIVE, as are the terms used to define usage (including "good" and "crap" as in the above). What one person considers "light/medium" use might be "heavy" use for someone else, and vice versa.

For me battery life on eb01 is great as long as gps isn't enabled in the pull down shade. When that is on the phone doesn't sleep even if gps is never showing active in the status bar.

X3...imho, it's an irrelevant feature to have on at all times unless you actually need it.
Eb01 battery life is sub par - mostly to with the fact we do not have custom kernels yet. Wait for those and well see the battery life that spoiled us again.

Not percentage, but time.
My Fascinate, currently, has been unplugged for 22 hours. Light/medium/heavy use is all completely and totally relative and opinionated terms. The amount of 'Time on' for the screen is a fair bit better way to show the use than just the meaningless 'heavy' & friends terms *. I've had my screen on for 55 minutes total, during those 22 hours, and am down to 42% battery life remaining. I wouldn't call the use I'd done 'heavy use', but someone else might consider that about as much use as they've given their phone in a WEEK!
I find my battery life is decent, but by no means amazing (I generally always make it through a day, 2 with light usage).
* Even then, it's a fair bit different if the time was spent looking at a single active pixel on the screen, vs playing with an augmented reality app that keeps the GPS, camera+flash, and wifi/3G constantly going, while also burning huge amounts of cycles on both the GPU and CPU... but one step at a time.

Okay, I've been flashing my ass all day long and not one person has mentioned seeing a wipe button appear, so I don't see how anyone can wipe their ass the same as their phone.
Sent from my SCH-I500 while waiting in prison for my court date for flashing in public. ..Hope this ROM doesn't kill my battery like the last one did.

In my case it's mostly due to the fact that the phone never sleeps if GPS is enabled. When the phone doesn't sleep, it eats battery at an alarming rate even just sitting in your pocket. Once GPS is disabled in the notification shade, battery life is more in line with DL09. I'll be happy once we get some custom kernels, as a LV kernel seems to help my device a bit, but battery life isn't so bad anymore as to cause me to flash back to DL09.
