I'm not discussing whether or not this app is great/useful/etc, I'm sure it is.
However, I'm just wondering why this post exists on XDA?
isn't this just an add for a commercial app on Google Marketplace and against XDA rules?

Standard A2SD
Hi,
Does it work with the "standard" ext3 App2SD ?
Thanks

Good Idea for an app!
I tested some things especially to delete system apps.
The program says "Succesfull deleted system app" or so..
But it did'nt, all programs are still there.
Also after a reboot they are there and I can open them.
Tested on HTC Desire with Z-rom v0.6 test
Tried to delete: Stock.apk and eReader.apk and soms other things.
Back-up worked. Nice to add Backup for NEW apps in it!
Some work to do!
Goodluck

thanks for test.
Are you have installed BusyBox?
I fix it after 1-2 hours, and upload update on market

I don't see why it would be against the rules, he's offering the app for free on the market and wants people to test/promote it. It would be better suited in the Apps forum however.
It seems to work fine for me, everything i tested works as it should.

I also take it from the standpoint of its the first of its kind I've seen. (and I have been searching). I have not seen an app that will make an export list of what i had installed. He made something that I wish I had thought of/could do. I've basically been using 99% of my TI backups list to do what I'm going to download his app for.
Only thing I need TI backup for honestly is angry birds. (well honestly 3 other apps to....)

hello
I like the concept of this app, tho i havent tried it yet.
so it will back all of my user apps into 1 apk, which i can just install the 1 big apk and it will install all of my user apps??
That seems very convenient if true, for us crack-flashers

[BUG] report
Force closes after buffer overflow or something
i got roughly 377 apps/games installed
at first it will try to cache the info, then the phone gets slower, and slower, and slower, until it finishes the scan
then when i try to select the apps, it throws the Force Close error, and it crashes
not sure if this is due 2.3 gingerbread

[ROMAPP]ROMEditToGo 0.9.3

Hi,
because our developers are so fast in releasing new ROMs every day I decided to make a nice little app for convenience.
Ever had this problem?
You are on the road, checking XDA and your favourite dev has just updated your ROM. You cannot wait until you come back home, but wait. There are all those apps you always remove from the ROMs before you flash them. And all your favourite MODs you need to add.
That's where ROMEditToGo comes in.
What it does
This app is for modifying ROM files. You can delete files (APKs for now) from the ROM. Also you may merge files from other ZIPs into the ROM (if they are already in there).
It is especially for those people, that want to modify some aspects of a ROM, but don't want to use a PC/Mac for that purpose.
You can open ROMs from the app or from any file explorer (any zip file).
You can define a default path for your ROM, so the dialog to choose ROMs will open this folder first (if you use OI File Manager).
There's also a backup option, in case you want to leave the source ROM unmodified.
Available Languages are English and German.
What it will do
I'm planning to implement some more features like
adding single files to the ROM
Maintain a (user-defined) list of commonly deleted files (e.g. Stocks.apk)
Implement forbidden files, which are needed for the ROMs to work
Check if file is a ROM
Customizing scripts
You name it...
What it does not
The ROM files are not signed. So you have to turn off verification in recovery. Also there are several APKs you should better leave in the ROM.
What you need
Android 2.2 installed...
Caution
Removing APK files from the ROM may produce a file that is not able to start correctly. Please be careful when removing files. Make sure you have a copy of a working ROM, in case something went wrong.

This is because your ROM doesn't contain a zip binary. I will try to work around this in the next version.

I find myself creating my own custom ROMS, taking wallpaper from one ROM and framework from another and the ability to include UOT in the package while being away from my PC, absolutely sick.

Just released a new version. As a part of the check it is now possible to directly install the zip binary.
The downside of this is, that the app needs root now, and also S-OFF.
If I find the time, I'll provide a flashable.zip for the binary.
Any chance of it supporting other file managers? I use ES File Explorer. Great app though.

New Version is out.
You can now use any file manager. The downside is, that the standard action doesn't allow to choose a folder to start from.
You can choose in the settings, which way you want it.
New version:
No more need for zip binary. Also it's now possible to search for apks in the ROM.
Superb App. Working wonders for me.
Regards.
simply AMAZING
Hi,
was really happy to find your app...
but on my HTC Desire running ICS from Sandvold it doesn't work.
The zip is 22 bytes big afterwards, so it's actually empty. Besides, when I select a different zip to be included, the button to start processing can't be pressed...
Any chance for a fix?

I'm on sandvolds ICS, too.
If you choose an addon, you also have to select the files to insert.
For the 22b error I got no idea, which rom did you edit?

Thanks for your reply.
I'm on Sandvold's 0.2.0 and wanted to adapt 0.2.1, because I don't want to switch from data++...
I tried just changing the zip file but somehow that doesn't work either. When I open it with 7zip and try to delete some apk's, it says "operation not implemented".
When I try it with WinRAR, I get "Archive is broken" after the delete operation.
I also unzipped it, deleted what I don't need and re-zipped it, but then my 4ext Touchcovery aborts the installation...
Any help for these methods is also appreciated...

[Q] unlink an apk IN android market

edit: DAMN IT..you won by some seconds ok..lol
of course was the first thing i did but
appear purchased in marked, so i tried to install it again and then i received the message the download of lgcamerapro was declined because you havent purchase it.
Uninstall it, clear cache in market and purchase? ;D?
re-install the .apk backup through Titanium Backup then use Titanium Backup to 'detach' the .apk from the market
thank you for the help, im going to provide more info, i go to android market WEBSITE, not in my phone, and in my market lgcamerapro appear PURCHASED, this is not market apk issue, im talking about the real market from google. of course i have not purchased that app, but i can not change the purchased status.
I have the same issue with pocket casts and a few other apps I got from the Amazon market. I have sent an email to Android support, but it's been a month and they haven't done a damn thing.

You can, but it will still show up the market as installed, and you can't buy it from there. I wanted to get soundhound so I could update it like all my other apps, but I can't as it shows as purchased.

I was using a CM7 build on my Milestone 2 and the Dev included ADWLauncher EX in the ROM. When the ROM was flashed the pirated app was linked to my account without me knowing.
Once ADW was updated I was able to buy and download ADW and everything was fixed.
This is a valid problem.
I have installed a couple of apps with apks supplied by the developers. I used them for a couple of product reviews.
Here is one example.
App shows as purchased

}
App cannot be installed or updated regardless of whether the original apk is installed or not (and/or linked to the market or not, as far as the phone is concerned). I also tried Titanium Pro.
It is an Android Market thing.
Another thing:
When an app is paid for but then the developer decides to make it free or remove the paid app - it still shows up in the
Android Market list of owned but not yet installed apps.
When you try installing it it stays on the following page forever because nothing really exists to download.

is there anyway to spoof a device id other than your own?
I ask because I wish to download APKs of applications like Chrome browser but my Bravo doesn't officially support ICS.

[APP] BuildProp Editor/Viewer - community project [1.33] - for android [1.6 - 4.0.3]

XDA-community!
NEWS: The app is open source: https://github.com/daOwl/build.prop-editor
I want to share my latest application with you: BuildProp Editor
root and busybox required
What is this tool used for?
This tool allows you to modify your build.prop file easily on your device. It makes editing easy and you don't have to take care about remounting stuff or read/write permissions. It also features descriptions which contain information about the property. A great tool for both: beginners and advanced users. It can be used to test a variety of properties on your device or even tweak it, but be warned: You've to know what you're doing! If the phone doesn't boot after a reboot, the initial backup of your device can be found at: /data/data/de.bwulfert.buildpropedit/build.prop
Why do you call it a community project?
Because I need your help. I want to create a documentation which contains every property and every meaning used by the android ecosystem. This is also my first real android project so instead of yelling the hell out of me, post some constructive feedback .
Descriptors / the motivation for developing this app / little details
I've created this application because, obviously, I want to edit my build.prop file in a easy, non adb push / maybe remount, way. So I've decided to create this application which does these steps for you (remounting, backup your file, etc.) - you just have to download & install it, getting prompt to create a backup of your current build.prop file (it's just button clicking, nothing else) and you are good to go son! Hint: You actually have to create an initial backup otherwise the application closes it self. I'll add a neat "view" or "read" mode later but for the security of all our phones I think its the best deal for now.
After working on it for a while I noticed the big range of properties a build.prop file could contain - and which my knowledge doesn't. So I decided to create these descriptors which consists of:
description - meaning of the property, what is it used for
recommended values - alpha numerical values - e.g.: 0,1 or 180, 190, 200, 210 or dd-mm-yyyy, mm-dd-yyyy
keyboard layouts - textual values - e.g.: NumBlock, CharacterInput or FileDialog (the FileDialog isn't implementet yet)
An example of an existing descriptor:
Code:
<PropertyDescription>
<KeyName>ro.com.android.dataroaming</KeyName>
<Description>Enables data-roaming by default in the build.</Description>
<KeyboardLayout>CharacterInput</KeyboardLayout>
<Values>
<Default>true</Default>
<Value>false</Value>
<Value>true</Value>

</PropertyDescription>
Of course I'm not able to describe all the properties by myself so I've spend some time searching on the net and came up with an amount of 24 descriptions. This isn't that much but a good start. Thats the point where I need help from anybody who's interested: If you want to contribute to this little project, you can contact me and sending me your descriptors (which are just plain-text xml files) - I'll merge them into the project. You can also help by translate this application into your language (english is still welcome, I am german) or donate a small amount.

TODO
This project isn't finished in detail. Everything should work exquisit and fine but this are the steps I'm still thinking about:
Batchmode - adding little text snippets which consists of properties to your build.prop file. (Great for lazy people like me)
A (web) application to make it easier to contribute descriptions
Preferences - I got a lot of feedback for these, I'll add these in the next update

There are quite a few apps which are able to do that but not with descriptions.

True, joeykrim does have a section in his app with "common tweaks" as seen in attatched screen shot. I do love your idea with the description though, makes up for a lot of questions that could arise with such app.

That would be a great thing! I'm allready implementing custom widgets (TextViews, ListItems for example), but I'd to ask for icons. Simple pictograms which match with a white (!) background

Hi there, I was hoping could trying your app.
First time I run your app, it asked permission and of course i allowed it.
But your app show this message
"No root access is given!...."
that's strange cause my X10 using Wolfbreak with prerooted. And app like Titanium, ScreenshotER, etc works perfectly.
Maybe you can help me what should I do?

[APP] BuildProp Editor - community project [1.1 BETA [Update]]
Update
Hey xda!
Today I've released the new version of my tool. The update contains a complete UI redesign in a lite/silver grey style. I've also worked on the ShellCommunication to increase the compatibility with other roms (works well on cm7 and MIUI).
Nevertheless I've uploaded my descriptionbundle. If you want to add a description you can take a look into the file. You can also look at the scheme.

Hello XDA,
another great Update of my build.prop editor. Thats the biggest update for now and I think, that this app isn't in beta anymore.
Version 1.2
Added viewmode (for unrooted phones)
Added HC and ICS compatibility
Added an introduction
Increased usability
Fixed some typos

My next step will be a batchmode. You can create a single text file which includes properties. These files can be integrated into the build.prop file. This allows to share stacks of properties for example helping somebody with a problematic build.prop. This also allows to share sets of tweaks for users, without to overwrite their own file. It should be selectable which property is going to be overwritten and which not.

A very usefull & handy tool for developers. Thank you very much

Thank you sir! I've still got a bit to do but it's pretty functional and tested for now.
I also want everybody on the board here to ask if someone wants to create a proper icon for this app? I'm not really great on this (simple icons are okay but proper stuff is not my job). So, if somebody is interested, please contact me. The one who'll design an pretty icon for me gets marked in the credits
This tool looks awesome. Can't wait to see it get developed more.
oh yeah nice tool rated and thanked!
same issue here, no root permissions granted in htc explorer, hope you solve it soon

[App] Install recovery by app - Infamous Performance

I have added the Ouya to supported devices to my app - Infamous Performance. Now you don't need to connect to a computer to install a custom recovery. You have to be rooted already! Download app (here or Playstore Link then downolad the recovery.img from here or any other thread (i just renamed OuyaCWMrecovery6.0.3.2.img to recovery.img so the app will find it.) Place recovery on the internal SD (ouya storage) Install the app then scroll to tools. Click on flash recovery then navigate to your recovery.img. and install. It will install and reboot into recovery. Make sure you have a keyboard plugged in before it reboots or you won't be able to navigate in recovery. Last when you reboot out of recovery make sure to disable recovery install (it will ask you to.) Thanks to all the developers who have worked on this device, I always appreciate everyone's hard work. I am kind of retired so I won't be starting any projects on this device. Enjoy!

Looking forward to trying this, I have never completed all the tweaking necessary to customize my OUYA and make it run smoothly. I keep finding old information around the net which makes it difficult, lot of outdated stuff. Thanks!
Not supported?
Hi
The app looks great! I got it to run but when I click the recovery field it says my device is not supported.
I'm currently running stock Ouya OS chupacabra with the current update.
Any ideas on what to do next to get'er running to install CWM recovery?
Thanks
Hmm. I'll have to look at the build.prop for your model. I thought I covered them all. Can you get me a screen shot of what exactly it says? Thanks man.

Got the screen shot uploaded. It's attached and not posted in full screen on the thread.
Also, I'm using the apk on this thread and not the one from the play store.

I installed it the app from the playstore.
If you can fix it, I'll gladly donate.

Jamison hasn't responded but just gotta be patient, Jamison's probably busy with life stuff of trying to update the app for the Ouya or other Android activity he's involved in.
Am I the only one that got it installed?
Thought I would just update this post instead of posting another. Question for anyone and please keep in mind I am fairly new to Android:
What is supposed to happen when you select 'Override Internal SD Path'?
Should it prompt you for something or does it just do it? I did quite a few searches and came up empty. I know it's probably self explanatory to many but not I. I am finally getting around to testing the functionality of this tool but probably not the best person for it given my limited knowledge at this point. It seems to be working on my Ouya.
I originally posted this becaus I was wondering if anyone has gotten this installed on an Ouya other than I. I came to the Ouya game really late, my primary reason for purchasing it was XBMC and to dive a little deeper into Android. While I have certainly not tested each function available in this tool I was able to get it installed without a problem and the cache cleaner appears to work. I am by no means skilled in the Android OS so there are lots of things I am still learning, not sure I would be able to tell if some of the functions work as I don't understand what they are supposed to do. I love to tweak/tinker, think that's probably common across most of the folks that visit the forums. Between running XBMC on the bedroom tv and having a little platform to play around with Android the Ouya was well worth the $50. I am on a Stock Ouya (rooted) and I used the apk that was attached to this thread, not the one from the Play Store. Just wish everything wasn't so out of date, I always get a little nervous about installing something that hasn't even been discussed in 8 - 12 months. This tool being an exception, thank you Jamison and hoping you continue to develop for these little boxes but fully understand why it would be hard to justify.

I posted a comment asking about a function within the app but have since answered my own questions. I still wonder:
1). Is this wofking for anyone else on an Ouya?
2). Is it somehow 'defunct' at this point or will it be further developed?
Regardless, appreciate the effort Jamison.

I have used it on two Ouya's myself and it worked. What issue are you having? Thanks and sorry for the delay
Which other devices are supported to install recovery or kernels? I'm on htc one x.
I think I have those already. Is that the M7 or M8? I can add devices pretty easily
Doesn't install recovery nor kernels on my one x from your app
Yes. This is because I have to add support for each device. If still interested I can add it
