I have just taken delivery of my lovely new Exec so I apologise if this is a very basic question.
When you press the "e" internet shortcut button to the left of the space bar, internet explorer opens and goes to a specific address. Is there a way to edit that default address? I've changed the default home page and so if I select Home from the menu I do go to my preferred page. It's frustrating that that doesn't happen when I use the shortcut button.
Many thanks
David
search the registry for the site that you do go to (eg www.clubimate.com), change that entry for the site you want it to go to.
use resco registry or phm if you dont have it already.
QUESTION:
In opera, some pages were auto-redirecting my inquires to their wap versions instead of displaying the full web pages ("wap mobile view" instead of the standard full-desktop view)
Eg.: typed "www.google.com" and getting automatically redirected to "http://www.google.com/m". Same for nytimes, www.sports.es, etc
Unchecking "mobile version" at config menu didn't help. Frustrating...
.
ANSWER:
Some pages detect your device thru the "User Agent" (UA) identity and auto-reconfigure to "better fit" your hardware (PC, notebook, handheld, etc), thus, if you are browsing from a phone then you will be redirected to the wap version. Awful.
I have a BEAUTIFUL 800x480 screen and a great browser, I wanted full PC-like web experience
HOW TO SOLVE:
1) In Opera, type "about:config" or "opera:config" to enter config menu
2) Go to "User prefs"
3) Uncheck "UAProf URL enabled"
4) Restart device
No more wap crap. Now pages display properly, normal view, as seen on my PC. I'm happy
thanks, great tip!
but if you're using the opera search it still redirects you to the google mobile page...is there anyway to fix that?

Yeah, that's great.
So it's more fun to browse the web! Thank you!
Nice find.
Sadly, I tried it with Opera Mini and no luck there ):

Thanks!
When I still used Opera, I changed the User Agent in the about:config to the number '3'. If I remember correctly it uses Firefox's user agent then (or IE6).
However, thats all history, I use NetFront 3.5, and except for the fact that it doenst support Flash\Addon's (yet), it is WAY better then Opera. Scrolling goes so smooth with the optical pad ! !
Also, the pages load a lot faster, and aren't screwed up while loading (unlike Opera Mobile where every page gets screwed up until its finally loaded).
Great tip, thanks!!
Many thanks for hint!
Did anybody found a setting to sync the bookmarks?
In opera mini it is possible.

You shouldn't be getting the wap version anymore (I don't)
Did you reset after changes ??
Double check opera:config to see if changes were saved
Im getting the same thing as well whenever i go to www.goal.com it takes me straight to the wap version :S
Another attempt if the first one posted still does not work.
It still didn't work for me so I did some more searching and found something on the att forums linking back to here. It said to go to the proxy settings through the opera settings and erase the text in the bar. Like for FTP, HTTP, HTTPS server just erase the field. Restart the phone then try to go to a regular site like yahoo.
Example: I removed the "wap.cingular.com" from all the fields and it doesn't go to the mobile sites anymore.
still getting wap

Operator's autoconfiguration-dependant then...
Here's plan B:
-opera:config -> "User Agent" -> "Spoof UserAgent ID"
-change value from "1" to "2"
-save changes
-reset device
Hope this helps

tried this as well....does not work. maybe i'll just put up with it unless anyone else has another idea
use this UA:
Code:
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 5.0; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30618)
It will be make yours opera like a real IE under Windows.
how can i set opera mobile as the primary browser in window mobile (htc touch hd)?
In Opera 9.7 you can select settings / advanced / and tick 'set opera as default browser'
Hope this helps
i am sorry that, i am using opera 9.5....hw could i do that then?
type in the address bar opera:config (without http or www) and look for the option to set opera as your default brwoser.
Is it possible to set other browser instead of htc browser for default when you use shortcut in internet tab?
Yes, go to start - internet explorer - menu icon - tools - options - other and tick 'tell me if internet explorer is not the default web browser.
Now exit internet explorer, and now restart internet explorer again, and it will say 'not the default, would you like to set as default' choose yes, and now the web page of manila will open internet explorer instead of opera.
Thanks for answer
Well, my default browser is opera, but when using internet tab opera doesnt get opened.
I would like to set opera as the default one, but in settings it is...I don't know why only internet tab doesnt open opera?
Hmm, not so sure. Try the oposite of mine, to UNTICK internet explorer as default, and then do something similar in opera - opera - menu - settings - advanced - tick set opera as default.
Try turning on and off default, as it may just need to reset itself as default
for some reason internet explorer has become default web browser, opera has make default browser ticked in the settings but still ie is chosen over it. any reason for this and how.do I fix it?

Try this;
Type in about:config in the opera browser's address field.
Expand the install line and check the box labelled browser first time launch. Tap save, then restart the browser.
nope doesn't seem to work, is there a way to uninstall ie?
With a registry editor go to: HKLM\Software\Shell\Rai\: DEFBROWSER\1 and enter the following string: "\Windows\OperaL.exe"
