[Q] Strange Linked Contacts Issue - Fascinate General

I can not figure out how to choose which of the linked contacts takes precedence.
For Example: I have linked my brother "Matt" with his facebook name "Matt xxxxx". I want his name in my contacts to stay Matt, but it goes to Matt xxxxx. Now I have tryed linking his FB name to his contact, still comes out Matt xxxxx. So I do not think it depends which name I link first.
So my question is, how do I choose which linked contact name is the one displayed?
EDIT: Found help in the IRC.
LONG PRESS on the contact
Click on Select Default
Choose the Name

HELP: User ID is connected with facebook

Hello Folks!!
I have a big problem with my contacts...especially with my own contact card I have connected a few of my contacts (friends) with details from their facebookaccounts, for this reason you have to log into your own facebookAcc of course.
Well, this is the problem: Once you connect with facebook, your User ID will be overwritten with your details from the FB Account. In my case this is useless, because my FB Acc works with a pseudonyme But now i can´t use my HD2 with my own ("real") name, what is quite problematic in the context of software which is registred on a specific User ID.
Any help? I would be very very thankful...
i havn´t found a solution yet...for this reason:
*UP*
If you go into your contacts for whatever person is linked to FB, you can go to the very bottom after "editing" that contact and simply remove click on the "Tap to Remove Facebook Link".
I believe that will at least rid you of the connection that is causing this issue for you. I don't seem to have the same problem, the only thing it seems to overwrite is the birthday and the picture, so now whatever pic is on FB for that contact is what shows when that person calls, which is pretty cool.
perhaps my introduction was a little bit confusing (i think i´ll never get an oscar for my english^^), i´ll try it in other words:
There´s nothing wrong with the other contacts in my list, it´s just about my "owner card" (UserID of the Device itself), which has been overwritten by the "pseudonym-details" from my facebook account. For this reason some programs don´t work right now, because they have been registred on my "real" owner infos.
Do you now what I mean?
Try correcting your details in the registry, I think the setting you need is 'HKCU\ControlPanel\Owner\Name'.
Or create a separate contact with your own name and details, then choose 'menu -> save to my business card' (I have a Dutch device so I'm not sure if that's the name of the option). Not sure if that'll overwrite your Facebook nickname, but it's worth a try.

Best Way to sync contacts?

I love the N1 but the contacts is really starting to annoy me, is there a way to add contacts with just their first names instead of having first and last? For instance i have a friend named James and when i try to add a new contact for a different person named Jimmy, it'll automatically lump him in under James unless i put a last name, any way to separate them and other contacts who are supposedly similar names?
At the bottom of a new entry you'll see a "More" option. Click that and add a "Nickname"
I use first and last names usually as well as nick names. I do notice that it lumps people under the same group as My dad is named Mike and i am too.. Its got all my emails lumped underneath him which is definitely annoying.
go to the contact it gets merged with, choose edit, hit menu and select seperate.
I find the easiest way to add/update/delete contacts / update calendar (apologies if I's stating the bleedin' obvious..) is do do it inline from my PC/Laptop with a nice big screen 'n keyboard.. then she syncs up pretty-da**-quick..
There also seem to be some fields (eg Birthdate) which I can't edit in the N1 version
Cheers!

[unresolved] Mass link contacts to facebook

Is there some sort of application that allows me to link contacts to facebook pages from my computer, and then somehow mass updates the contacts on the phone? The link to facebook is just some XML in the contact notes, so in principle this should be possible.
The same question has been asked here yesterday - i can't post the link as there is a restriction from doing so *rubbish* but it's topic id is 636175 and isn't too far down the forum...
Anyways, it apparently works with myphone, but I don't seem the XML that everyone else does for some reason and so my facebook links don't save

when you sync back your contacts after a flash/hard reset, the data to link them to their facebook equivalents should already be there. However, the links won't start to work until you have reassigned your 'me' contact card to your facebook account. When you do that, you should find the facebook links are restored. (not the facenbook app)
i'm afraid that's not what i'm looking for, myphone backs up my contact facebook associations just fine, i'm just looking for a simpler way to create those associations in the first place, preferably through the computer
Sorry if I misunderstand you, but doesn't the people/facebook app pop up and say 'click here to associate your contacts' and most of them are already pre-checked?
Note I'm NOT talking about the one on an individual person's page, but the one on the 'all people' list.
In the two seconds that process takes, 80% of my contacts were covered. The other 20% being people who I have as 'Jon XYZ' but they are 'Jonathan XYZ' on FB (or vice-versa.)
Or are you one of those people who doesn't do first name/last name and is looking for a way to get around that?
that's exactly what i need! it didn't do that with me, is there a way launch that synchronization manually?
I'm... not sure. I'm sure there is but I don't know how.
Just to make sure you're not missing anything obvious:
Go to the People tab
Click All People at the bottom
You're now at the "All" tab within a new screen -- you should see your fb contact as "Me" listed as the second contact -- do you see this 'link your facebook contacts' around here? (If it exists on this screen, it'll be one of the top three contacts.)
If not, use the slider on that same screen to scroll over to 'Updates and Events'. You'll see yourself at the very top here, and I'm almost positive that it was on this screen where it had 'link your contacts.' It wasn't in a menu or anything, it was very prominently displayed as one of the top items.
When/if you can find that screen, it's basically a dumb match that looks for Contacts(First Name,Last Name) = Facebook(First Name,Last Name). I'm not sure if it pairs on email address, but AFAIK it needs the full name to be exactly the same.
HTH.
**This all assumes you entered your facebook credentials when setting up your phone (or from the data sync menu under the settings tab afterwards) - completely separate from any fb app you may have on your phone. I'm pretty sure you have done this since you mentioned the XML in the contacts but just to be absolutely positive.
I've been looking at this problem since you first posted, and the main problem I see is that I can't see a way to un associate the me contact from face book (in order to re associate so that the contact association screen comes up)
dashed annoying!
i see what you mean, i'm going to look for a way to do that
Have you tried Fonebook!
http://www.developingtrends.co.uk/Software/Facebook/Fonebook/Default.aspx
I can do all the sync with facebook and Outlook. Give a look at this!

I think you could momentarily switch off the Facebook connection altogether do accomplish that. It's under "Data services" (on the settings tab).

Yea, thanks, that got it, however when i logged back in (through 'me' contact card) it doesnt ask about associations as when you do it the first time. Oh well.
i just found an option do associate the contacts for you! if u scroll to the contacts tab in HTC sense then scroll to updates and events (its the picture of the person with a clock next to their head) i had a button at the tob which said 'Associate contacts: XX new associations found (xx being the number of new associations)' tap this and select the contacts you want to update (by default it selects all) then tap ok. it will create the associations for any contacts that arnt associated. it will also set the default contact picture to the facebook profile. it will make your contacts lag a bit while it downloads the info but after that it runs fine
if it helps im running 1.66 official hd2 rom from HTC, with radio 2.08

Sorry to reopen this thread, but I'm one of those people! I would also be interested in finding a way to add/backup my fb associations on the PC as MyPhone does not seem to sync them for me I get the fb id's in the <sn> field but not in the <facebook> ones =/

Linking facebook contacts with phone contacts but keeping phone name?

Hard to explain in one line but is there any way to link a contact saved in the phone with a contact from facebook and keep the phone name, a lot of my friends, i know them by their nicknames but when i link a contact with facebook it changes their names to their first and last names, some wont but some will, when i go into edit the contact it gives me what is saved in the phone which is the nickname but that is not what shows up. Some will stay the name entered in the phone but vast majority change.
I tried everything to get this accomplished, but in the end I figured once they are linked the synced contact becomes the default. If youre doing this for contact pics I would suggest linking the contact then pulling/saving the pic by dl'ing it from the media section in your contacts.
Catchin' the VIBE on the XDApp
If you long press a contact, and choose 'Mark as Default' you should be presented with the name formats of your linked contacts, and choose the one you wish to see in the contact list..
if you are in the contact, hit menu, then "mark as default" -- it will let you choose which contact is the default of those that are linked (and therefore, choosing which name to use)

FYI sometimes it takes a couple of times to make that work, but it does work.

How to disable linked contacts?

My S8 samsung contacts would automatically link contacts that are within the same name into one 'contact'.
For example, I had a friend whose name is 'Andrew' and another friend with the same exact name 'Andrew', samsung contacts would put them under one 'Andrew' name, thus making me confuse when I was going to look for the second andrew.
The only solution I found to unlink is by manually finding these auto-merged contacts and then click - sign to unlink them within the same contact.
How to disable linked contacts? I have many contacts who only goes by a single first name (in my country it is considered impolite to ask for a person's last name when you just get to know them)

Same issue. Any help to batch unlink all contacts in native Samsung Contacts app?
Same problem. Using Microsoft Exchange and Outlook.com but even though sync from outlook.com is disabled I still get duplicate address. The only way to only way to unlink them that I have found is by going through the address book and unlink individually. That's OK when you have 10 contacts but when you have 700+ it takes hours. I did unlink all of them then I got an updated operating system on Samsung s8+ and I'm now back to the same problem? Any help out there?
I wonder what did samsung email developer team thinking when they developed a feature called linked contacts. Do they never test their own features/programs by themselves?
Same problem here. Especially NEVER use Samsung's data transfer app KIES. It duplicates each Google contact and creates a Samsung Phone contact and automatically links them. What a MESS!
