[Q] [Question] Install Apps and Recovery mode - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi!
I just passed to an android nand rom, before i had android from sd. It was very simple for me to install apps, i just passed the files .apk to the folder Android Apps in the folder of Android Sd and when i reeboted the phone the app was installed.
Now my question is, i have nand android and tried to place an .apk app in the root of the sd, reeboted, and nothing was installed.
I tried to search for an answer but nothing, can somebody please explain me how to install apps in this nand version?
And also.... how can i remove boot sound? i cannot enter in recovery mode... in the sd version i had the option to reebot in it by holding the power button (but really never worked), and now in nand version i have only the option to Reebot, Shutdown, or Put in silent mode.
Thanks!

Hmm..are you talking about installing typical apps or some special apps? cause for most of apps you can install them as simply as coping the .apk file to your SD or even download them directly from the web to your SD,then browse to where you copied/downloaded them using your file manager and simply click on the app to install it,or there is the hard way by using 'adb' and the command " install -s yourappname.apk".About that recovery issue, you can't access recovery mode from the power menu on HD2 android, however we do have a working recovery image in some other way,so you might wanna do some reading HERE first. Hope i helped or even understood you correctly,if you need more help just be more specific and i'll be glad to help you further.Cheers!

hummm..
hi, i'm really glad you answered and i thank you..
my problem now is.. i don't have a file manager because i cannot install this famous apps like i did in the past with sd version. Usually i placed the apk file in AndroidApps and the app whas installed in automatic when i reeboted. Now in this nand version i don't have this folder and in rom i don't have a file manager... (still i don't understand why android doesn't have one in stock like wm had).... and so i cannot install nothing... i neither cannot access to phone storage because if i select the option when i connect the phone to connect with Htc Sync the phone gets stuck searching for Htc Sync in my computer... I don't know which is the solution now and i don't understand why nobody in forum speaks about this problem i have.
Thanks!

It's not really a problem, dude. simply go to market and install ANY file manager you like then you would be able to do whatever you want,i would recommend 'esfile manager' it nice one and works almost with every build. You can also do it using 'adb' on your pc.
"(still i don't understand why android doesn't have one in stock like wm had)"<--That will always be a wonder to me,it seems kinds stupid not to add it,maybe they depend on you to access market and get one yourself.

thanks
ok, thankyou mate. in all cases i'll try to flash another rom with the ClockworkMod Recovery, i've seen the video and it seems a very good program, also because of the backup and restore option, i really like it.

Ight, just make sure you are downloading a rom with the '.zip' format for clockwork not any nand build, not all of them are packed into '.zip' at least not yet.Glad i could help.

last question
a last question, i've seen that if i pass from a daf rom to a zip rom it's better if i whipe the system before flashing, maybe not wiping can cause issues, you know how to?
thanks

Sure, after you install clockwork you will find an option inside it's sub menu 'called wipe...something something' don't really recall, but it's there you will find all the instructions for clockwork in the thread for it.

Just try pushing recovery via adb .. if you know how to use it
Do you mean fastboot isnt working? (3 skating andoids) it wont boot? or recovery doesnt work?
in the clockwork rom manager it has an option for broken recovery...
other than that put the recovery.img on the sdcard (the root of it) then connect the phone and type adb shell flash_image /sdcard/recovery.img
i have tried it with ADB its gives message
usage : Flash_image partition file.img
but it doesn't boot in recovery mod what to do now ?

Greetings sunshine4u,
There use to be a how to on the unlockr but its no longer there,
How ever here you go man,
Flashrac

Code:
1. On your phone, goto Settings, Applications, and make sure Unknown source is checked ON.
2. On your phone, goto Settings, SD card and phone storage, and click Unmount SD card.
3. Then click Format SD card (it should automatically remount after this).
4. Plug the phone into the compuer via USB, then pull down the notification bar and click on the SD card notification. Then click mount.
5. Download this APK and recovery image and save it to your computer:
6. Save both the recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2 and the FlashRec.apk to your computer, then copy them both to your SD card (do NOT put them inside any folders on the SD card, just put them on the SD card itself).
7. Unplug the phone from the computer once they are downloaded to the SD card.
8. Goto the Market and download Linda File Manager or any file manager program if you do not already have one.
9. Open the file manager and goto SDCard and then find the FlashRec apk file and click it. If asked tell it to use Package Installer to open it. It should automatically install the apk.
10. Open the FlashRec program and click on Backup Recovery Image and wait for it to finish.
11. Once done, click on the empty text box in the FlashRec program and type (again remember we have replaced the recovery image from the one in the video so type what is written here, NOT what is written in the video!):
/sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.7.0.1.img
Then click on the Flash Custom Recovery Image button (this button might say something else in different versions of Flashrec, but similar to this) and wait for it to finish.
12. Turn off the phone and turn it on into Recovery mode by holding down Home and Power to turn it on (keep holding until the recovery screen comes up has a bunch of text on a black background). So long as that screen comes up, you have done it correctly
Now this mite not work with your rom but it will not damage it in any way,
If point 10 fails then you will not be able to do it this way.
I know my self i had to downgrade my orange rom before doing it,
But before that point 10 just kept saying failed,
Downgrade and it worked a treat.
Hope that helps.
how to downgrade ???
Greetings,
I guess it did not work then,
As for the downgrade this depends on your provider,
I was able to get the orange rru thats a .exe and just run this,
But if you give have a look on the internet for your provider i am sure you will be able to find some thing,
If not get back to me with the name of your provider and the software you are on at this point and i will have a look for you.
my hero has no logo on it and its unlocked to all networks and i m using it in pakistan i m using warid as service provider and they dnt know anything about this issuee

Hi i have the same problem as threadstarter. It did not work for me. May i know how do i downgrade my version?

[Q] Flashing NAND using adb?

Hey guys, I have searched high and low and can't find anything related to my problem. I have decided to switch my HD2 over from mw to android, and I have hit a wall.
I know exactly the procces of how it should be done, but my problem is this:
My volume rocker key is broken, and unfortunately I have no way of navigating through magldr to do the required steps, thus do NAND flashing for me.
My question is this, does anyone know of any other way to get it done, maybe using adb?? And if it's possible, where can I find the command lines to do it?? Is there any alternate method of flashing to NAND on the HD2?
Do this downloadcLK, also download Google Android drives. Finally download the ROM you want, but make sure you downloadcthe cLK version of the ROM.
Now create 3 folders on your desktop as that will be the easiest place to find them. I know these are gineric names but it is to help make it easier for you. Name one folder cLK, one folder Android drivers, and on folder Android ROM.
Next extract the contents from the cLK. zip file to the cLK folder, extract the contents of the Google Android drivers .zip file to the Android drivers folder, and finally extract the contents of the ROM .zip file to the Android ROM folder.
Now boot your HD2 into bootloader and connect your HD2 via USB cable to your computer. Wait for the Serial in the white bar of bootloader to change to USB and then open the cLK folder and right click on the custom RUU and select run as administrator. When cLK is done flashing your HD2 will reboot but do not unplug the USB cable yet.
If you are running Windows 7 the Android USB drivers should auto install. But if not go to device manager in the control panel and find your HD2, it should be listed as "Android phone". If it is not dropped down from the main device list then click on it to make it drop down. Then right click on the dropped down icon and select update drivers, then select from computer in the pop up window, then find the Android drivers folder and click done. This should install the USB drivers for your HD2 and you should see "processing fastboot commands on your HD2 screen.
Now open your Android ROM folder and find the. img file and right down the name of it. Then go to start menu on your computer and in run or search type in CMD. If you have to type it into search go up to the top of the start menu window and click on the CMD icon that will be there, if you typed it into run just hit enter.
Now in the comand promt box that CMD brought up type in this command.
cd C:\Android ROM then hit enter, next type
fastboot flash (the name of the .img file you wrote down).img leave the (&) out but type the name of the img file in including the .img. This should flash the ROM. Next type
fastboot reboot and your HD2 should reboot and boot into your Android ROM.
But it will be impossible to get into bootloader with a broken volume rocker though right?

Yeah of the volume down part of the volume rocker is not working you can not getconto bootloader. But if they still have Windows Mobile on their phone they can install either Touch Tools or Anistasia's End Key to their HD2 and get to bootloader that way. Both of these apps allow you to access the bootloader via the touch screen, they just run the bootloader.exe is all.
Thank you for all your help. I am stuck with one problem...
Any roms that I have download that are cLK roms, have only 3 files in them.... a boot.img file, META-INF folder, and system folder....
In the last bit of information you gave me, you tell me to flash the .img file that I find in my android rom folder... in my case, is that the boot.img file?? what happens to the other 2 folders that are in the rom zip (META-INF and system)
Thanks once again for all your help!

Hmmmm that is a good question. To be honest I amcreally not sure as I am going on information I haveclearned from my research. I know the boot.img is what you want to type in the command I told you about. I also think thatcwhen you usecthat command it flashes that img and the other files to cause you have to type in the directory of the folder they are I'm first (the cd C:\Adroid ROM). Also I know this the boot.img is the kernel and the system folder is the Android system. I don't know what the META-INF file is to be honest. But I have asked and been told that following what I instructed above will flash a ROM.

Yeah I agree it is wierd, but you are only flashing a splash screen which does not touch the ROM partition of the NAND memory. So I don't feally see it causing you not to be able to flash anything else.
So are you just scared it will do that or that it did do that?

Worried that if I do it, and I cant load into android, then there is no way for me to get back into bootloader to re-flash winmo, or any other android rom...
Been searching my head off, and nothing out there!!!!

Yeah you are right about that. If things go bad you will not be abale to get to bootloader. Have you tried American Android on SD? I have read a lot of good stucc about it. I used Warren Bread on SD befor I went NAND, it was a build that was put out just befor American Android by one of the developers of Americsn Android. Anyway was not that bad on battery drain. Oh yeah I think I would just run Android from SD if I was you until hou are abale to vet your volume button fixed just to be safe lol.

I run Hyperdroid as my daily driver, thi. king about giving Ultimate Droid a try today?

i cant create contacts and a few other issues i have some questions about

Ok i am new to android just traded my iPhone 4 for a HTC HD2 and it already had android on it when i got it. and i have some problems.
Number one biggest problem is i only have a power cord. no USB cord.
Problem 2 is this Rom is to say the least .. ODD.
Comes with no dialer, SMS app or Contacts app. However there is an option under -Settings-Ultimate Droid Setting-Modified Apps- Then a button i can push to install these things but it "installs them" but nothing happens these things do not show up anywhere. I am using 3rd Party replacements from the market which are OK (i would still perfer the stock apps) but then i have a Contacts Problem. i can push the create contacts button all day long and i get NOTHING no matter what app i try to do it from. I can import them from my computer but that is SUPER annoying.
So to put everything in a quick rundown
Cannot Create Contacts
No Stock Dialer, SMS app, or contacts app.
No USB cord to change roms.
Now here is another problem i ran into before everyone tries to tell me how to do this.
My Phone does in fact have aMAGLDR V1.12 Build Feb 03:45:07 by Cotulla 2011
So i thought well ill just install Rom Manager and Flash to Different Rom.
BUT i ran into more issues...
I flashed ClockworkMod to my phone like i was suppose to so i could flash my rom that i found to my phone with Rom Manager. Says it installed and was successful
SO then i clicked Install ROM from SD Card like i was suppose to after moving the rom zip to my SD card directory like the tutorial i found said to do. it found it and i clicked it checked all the appropiate boxes and hit ok. it said booting into recovery mode and shut off. When it came back on i held down the Red button like i was suppose to so i could get to the aMAGLDR menu like i was suppose to. I selected "AD Recovery" and it showed "No Boot Sources".
SO ONCE AGAIN.. FAIL....
i need help correcting all these issues please as i am a noob.
Also if someone could suggest to me a HTC HD2 Android 2.3 rom thats pretty close to stock and has all stock apps in tact that would be AMAZING. i do need it to keep my UNLOCK though as it is a T-Mobile Model and i am using At&t.
ALSO Below i will post all my phones Specs.
P.S. i am Currently booting from NAND not SD
About Phone:
Model Number HTC Bravo (Its Actually an HTC HD2 just HTC BRAVO for the ROM Base)
Android Version 2.2.1
Baseband Version 15.34.50.07U_2.08.50.08_2
Kernal Version 2.6.32.15ocm_hastarin8.6N-gb02686c-dirtyroot(at Symbol)ocm#2
Build Number JDMS 1.6.2
Any other Questions. let me know. please and thank you for the help ALOT
Did you install the clockwork Rom Manager?
...you can't use the Rom Manager with magldr, it's just compatible with the clk bootloader.
I would suggest to start from the very beginning:
task 29:
flash magldr 1.13: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948
- Follow this tutorial until(including) step 1
flash the latest clockworkmod and the correct partition size: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987531
For MAGLDR 1.13, booting from NAND:
Download the file attached and named "recovery_3.2.0.0_leo.img.zip"
Download a partition layout incl. recovery from this thread which fits your ROM you want to use best and unzip it into "C:\recovery" for example
Copy over "recovery_3.2.0.0_leo.img" from inside the zip archive into this folder "C:\recovery", delete existing "recovery-raw.img" and rename "recovery_3.2.0.0_leo.img" to "recovery-raw.img"
Flash the recovery and partition layout using "DAF.exe" as usual and described in the thread of raiderx or the ROM provider
Boot Recovery with menu point "8. AD Recovery"
You're done

Running DAF from magldr folder is where you have been wrong besides from posting your tragic story in the wrong section of forums, thread reported to mod.
Download a recovery for your phone (Most roms available now do not use the older DAF method but the CWM [ClockWork Mod] method)
After installing magldr, go to usb mode, download a recovery, run DAF inside the folder which you extract/download from recovery thread. Your phone shall reboot, Now select the AD Recovery and a new menu should come up, go to storage and mounts and then select the mount as mass storage. Copy the zip file you get from the ROM thread or whatever source and paste it in the removable drive that shows up on your computer/laptop after having selected "mass storage" option. When transfer is complete, wait for a few seconds and select the unmount option on phone, go back once more to get to the main menu, select install from zip, select zip from sdcard, select the zip file you just transfered. If all went well and you downloaded all the right files, when you select reboot system, your phone should boot into android.
If you need further help, post in the rom thread regarding the problem you face.

Stop panicking, you'll struggle to brick your phone. You can't use ROM Manager with MAGLDR, it doesn't work. First reflash CWM via USB Flasher mode in MAGLDR, that should fix AD Recovery. In fact, with the HD2 NEVER use any apps from Android that flash things, the HD2 isn't a native android phone and the vast majority of them don't work at all. Do everything manually, it will save you a lot of trouble. Boot into CWM and use the partition tool there to select a 1024 MB EXT 3/4 partition with 0 MB swap. Flash the ROM's .zip in CWM from your SD card. The guide in my sig goes into much more detail than above, use that if you need any more help.
thank.. but one more pls

As of now there's no publicly available Windows Phone 8 ROM but @Cotulla has shown that it's possible to boot Windows 8 RT and WP8 on the HD2. Don't hold your breath though, those screenshots surfaced (no pun intended) months ago and nothing much has changed since then.
You can dual boot Android with WinMo 6.5 or with WP7. Check out the guides in @mengfei 's signature for information on that.

you can always search in xda. what do you mean by windows 8? windows PHONE 7.8???? or windows phone 8?? or windows RT????? you could provide more details.
if it's windows phone 7.8, you will lose everything you have on nand and sd.
if it's windows phone 8 that you want, or windows RT, then it's not possible. there is no such thing as windows phone 8 or RT available to public on the hd2.
do you mean windows 8? then you have a lot to learn until you realize it's impossible
