youll need clockwork recovery 3, not the 2.5.1.2 used for iced glacier and other froyo roms. The easiest way to do that is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10670110#post10670110
once you have that installed, you will need to flash the CM7 nightly ROM and Google apps zip, found here:http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/14459-nightlies-cm7-discussion-of-nightlies/
reboot, and enjoy CM7

Hi guys I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. I have been trying out some new ROMS and kernels and I rcently began to notice that there are black lines flashing off ad on my screen which is very annoying. Does anyone know how this happend and if this can be fixed? any help and input would be so appreciated
Does it do that with all the roms? Try going back to bone stock un rooted, if it still does it I'd guess hardware issue and return it to sprint. Make sure it's totally unrooted though!

It's most likely the kernel you flashed. If you use say a Savage-zen Kernel with a sense rom, you will get the black lines that look like tearing. It's because you need to use Sense Kernels with Sense roms, and ASOP Kernels with ASOP roms like CM6 or CM7. To fix, just Wipe cache, Factory reset, and install the rom again, but don't flash the kernel. Hope that helps.
Thanks a lot guys I think that was the issue, I was flashing a Savage Zen 2.1 kernel and the kernel was for gingerbread and the ROM I was using was the Acer Liquid port over. Thank you for the help and clearing things up, the problem has been solved
Hello XDA,
I have been searching around but can't find anything relative to my experiences.
I have tried flashing many different kernels on top of my rooted stock 2.2 and I always end up with a boot loop of the HTC logo.
I was wondering if there is a way to flash a different kernel and have it function properly. I want to be able to overclock and install a patch from the call recording app in the DEV section. A link to reading material would suffice or any help would be appreciated.
Info:
Stock 2.2 rooted

Thanks again

You could try using a Virtuous kernel, I'm not sure if they will work on stock though.
Here's a link to some kernels.
You should really install a custom rom though if you want performance.

Thanks for the reponse. I was using CM7 and loved it, but I really need my call recording to work and it was very intermittent with CM7.
I got it working properly on stock now by installing baconbits 0.3 then flashing the kernel and for some reason it worked.
If you have any suggestions as to a "stockish" type rom, I'm open to it.

Virtuous Sense is based off the official updates from HTC, only optimized and touched up a bit.

It's been a while since I have messed with Root on my phone since putting on Iced Glacier 1.6 for 2.2.1 Android for my MyTouch 4G.
So I need a little help or clarification.
Following this post directions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175536
I updated to the 2.3.4 ROM and for some reason occasionally get the phone showing the "MyTouch" white screen after exiting an app.
Also get "MySense" failed to load or forceclosed when starting up the phone. I think that is what it says...
I re-installed my apps using Titanium Backup, but I think I am missing a few even though I made a full App and System back up the night before doing any of this new ROM rooting. I also did a "Fix Permissions" in ROM Manager.
1: Is Footballs the most basic stable rooted ROM out right now?
Or what is recommended for battery length and smoothness?
2: How does Virtuous Unity compare in stability and speed and battery life compared to other ROMs right now?
I liked Iced Glacier for it's baseness and speed and lack of bloat-ware and I don't change ROMs often. I want one that works and is stable and I want to stick to it.
Not wanting to brick my phone moving to new stuff.
My other big question is:
After installing Footballs Rooted ROM, I still get the 2.3.4 OTA update reminder.
How do I remove that ????
And yes I did a lot of searching before posting this in order to refresh my brain but could not find a precise answer...
So thank you to anyone that can help with these questions and steer me in the right direction.......
I run virtuous unity on one of my my touch 4gas and it is stable and all functions work including tango,,, love the fact there is no bloatware.

It all depends on what you like actually. For a stable rom that you will stick with for awhile that is just like the update to 2.3.4 without the bloat. I would recommend GenerationX v5, its the most up to date rooted/debloated stock version. If you like sense, but not mysense. They Virtuous Unity 1.29 seems to be the favorite stable right now. Keep in mine there are AOSP roms out there like faux's and cm7 that people enjoy as well which are excellent speeds and awesome battery life over stock type roms.

Thanks for the replies so far.
I'm honestly not sure what the difference between Sense and MySense is since I don't keep up with this stuff anymore.
And if I flash one of the ROMs I of course need to make a full wipe and then install. will this erase the homepage icons and need to re-install all my apps again ?
Like i said before i'm not looking for flashy themes, just no issues & good battery life & speedy response when doing things on the phone.
Thanks again for the help....
hi Louis here! umm alright down to business so i just got a notification on my MYT4G [ gingerbread OTA ] now i am officially rooted [ S-off ] custom splash screen, deleted original installed apps [ tmob tv etc ] now for my questions if i update RIGHT NOW what will happen? and ive been searching the forum for two days and ive had no luck in finding the gingerbread STOCK rom now i still want to update as well as keeping my ROOT so if anyone can provide guidance it'd be much appreciated thanks!
You can't update and keep root. You either stay rooted and run the rooted gingerbread rom or any other rom in dev section or update and lose root and s-off.

Well as of right now the most stable sense roms are coming from virtuous team. You can look into virtuous unity, virtious doubleshot. I'm running virtuous unity myself. Since you always ran stock you might like virtuous unity best.

Basically the main and most major thing, do a nandroid before flashing anything. But the actuall process is easy. Just download the rom, put it on your sd card and flash through recovery.
Might want to update clockwork also before if you haven't.

never done a nandroid back up before....i did update the clockwork rec mod tho with ROM MANAGER
do i just drag n drop the file in my sd card and rename it update.zip?
SCRATCH IT! i was able to successfully install " virtuous unity " runs pretty smooth right now! thank you!
I think you are looking for the Rooted version of Stock 2.3.4 Rom
If you are interested, you can download it here.
Flash it in your ClockworkMod Recovery after a full wipe.

Great. I dont know if you already figured out how to back up your rom. But before you do anything else to it, just get it where you can use your phone how you like it and boot into recovery. Once in recovery, scroll down with trackpad to backup and restore, click it and back up your current rom and let recovery do its thing.

Yea I noticed that THANKS ! TWO questions though does this ROM have swype text? And a screenshot come along with it?
This Rom do come with Swype support.
As far as interface is concerned, the new update from T-mobile haven't changed the interface much.
So you will notice only a slight change in the 2.3.4 update.
Go to this YouTube link and have a look.
thanks bud!
