No Nandroid backup option - Vibrant General

hey guys.
i searched the forums, maybe not hard enough but here goes.
forgot when i rooted the phone, maybe in november. have rom manager, titanium manager, etc...havent put any roms yet but when I go into recovery, i have no option to nandroid backup.
the only four options i have are:reboot system
reinstall packages
delete all user data
delete cache data
i also have a
E: cant open /cache/update.zoip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
while im in recovery. any help would be appreciated!

You need to install Clockwork in the Rom Manager App. After that, reboot into recovery and click reinstall packages (sometimes it takes a few times of clicking reinstall packages).

thanks. i updated rom manager and after a few tries installing packages, was finally successful!
thanks

apply sdcard:update.zip???
hi, I install the rom manager, reboot in recovery mode but I dont see any reinstallation option in the menu, only the following options
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/ factory reset
wipe cache...
the reinstallation app is apply update.zip option??
i tried that option but I get
install from sd card
finding update package
opening update package
verifying update package...
e: failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory)
e:signature verification failed
installation aborted.
any idea?
thanks a lot!

Is your update.zip on your internal sd card? It can't be in any folder..

that update.zip is nowhere in the card as far as I can see... what is that file about? where I can find it? maybe was created when I tried to root the phone (DEfy) z4root didnt work and I finally used superone click... is that update file created by the superoneclick??

Plus that update.zip you posted was for a full rom. Thats not the file used to root the phone.

[Q] Need help with Rom Manager

I rooted my epic 4g phone today. I installed rom manager to backup my current rom. I have flash clockworkmod recovery and gave it superuser permission. when i click on backup current rom. i save the backup name and it restarts. i get an error
e: failed to verify whole-file signature
e: signature verification failed
installation aborted.
i have an option to reboot system now, apply sdcard.update.zip or wipe my data and cache partition.
i just need someone to help me solve this issue thanks. also i would like to download roms but that dont work either. thanks for the help in advance.
Sounds like you didn't install cwm. Your on the stock recovery. You can't use rom manager to flash cwm for you on stock kernel. Run the one click root and cwm. use the three finger to get into cwm.
Thank you both for addressing this problem.
Since I am a computer novice in many ways, and new to this forum (thank you for having me), Musclehead84, could could you please step me through the process?
Q: Where do you get 1-click root?
Q: What is the order of operation. Is "get cwm" invoked from inside the 1-click root?
Thanks
I got the one click root from here.

Musclehead84 can you give me a step by step or direct me somewhere i can do this. I'm new in this. thanks in advance.

Help Installing ROMs PLEASE

I am stuck...
Ive tried installing two different ROMs on my Fascinate and get the same error when doing both and i cant figure out why.
I have tried installing the DL09 and DJ05 both getting this error:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
Esignature verification failed
Installation aborted.
The options up top are:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
I thought that there was a way to bypass the signature but am unsure of the steps.
I have also tried uninstalling CWM and pulled the battery and then tried running both the ROMs and still got the same error...
Any ideas?
Have you flashed both parts of CWM? You need to flash it via Odin as well as use ROM Manager. The part through ROM Manager downloads the update.zip file, so you could just download the update.zip from somewhere else if you didn't want to use ROM Manager.
After that, you should be set to go. Also, you should have posted in the General section.
are you applying the update to get in cwm recovery? then going to install zip from sd card?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897889
Step 2.
Or there are many more posts/guides/questions about this in the General section. Cheers.
Did you have any success with the suggestions here or are you still stuck?

0. Is your phone rooted?
1. Have you flashed the radio?
2. Have you installed clockwork rom manager?
3. You should be flashing ROM via the clockwork recovery not samsung recovery

This happens when you are coming from a stock ROM that does not have Clockwork Mod installed properly.
You need to install Clockwork Mod. You need to flash via Odin, as well as in ROM Manager. Follow these instructions in post #1:

[Q] Please help me, error while flashing

Hi guys, I hope you can help me.
I have just rooted + flashed my motorola defy plus for the first time (on any device for that matter)
I installed 2nd init, version 0.6.... or something.
Put a rom, kernel and google apps on my sd-card
Then I turned usb-debugging off and rebooted my phone.
Now I can get into bootmenu, and this is what I do:
1) go to recovery
2) select custom recovery
3) then it says: Clockworkmod Recovery v2.5.1.8
E: Can't open /tmp/recovery.log
4) I then select wipe data/factory reset
5) then it says this: Formatting DATA
Formatting CACHE
FORMATTING SDEXT
No app2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext
Formatting SDCARD:/.android_secure
Data wipe complete
E: Can't open /tmp/recovery.log
6) After that i select install zip from sdcard
7) then I select choose zip from sdcard
8) then I select the zip file containing the rom
9) And it says: Finding update package
Opening update package
Installing update
E: Can't make /tmp/update_binary
Installation aborted
Now I can't go any further and can't use my phone at all
I hope u guys can help me, and that I haven't F*ed up my phone

Thanks to the previously backup I can use may phone as usual.
What I have done wrong with de ICS installation?

Yes I do, but nothing change,
Thanks
if I'm not mistaken the last release of 2nd init is not compatible with defy. Try to check this on the development forum. I hope I have been of help.
I'd tried with both 1.0.7 latest and 0.6.1.
With latest, the phone is blocked.
Thanks
I had used this. Try with it
P.S. sorry for my bad english.
Tried, the same errors,
Thanks

I think you need to go to stable recovery after you wipe your data from custom recovery
What do you mean by "stable recovery"? You talk about version 0.6. of 2nd init or something else?
Can you show a step-by step procedure?
Thank you in advance.
However, which is the procedure to un-root a defy+ and to have it with the original, fresh system?
I had flash a new SBF, root with Unlockroot v2.3, anything else doesn't work, 2ndinit v2.0 stable, wipe data/cache/dalvik (same errors), try to install cm9-ics, the same error "Can't make /tmp/update_binary"

Hi, I have exactly the same problem.. Trying to find a solution but is quite difficult. First I thought it has something to do with the partitioning, as stated in THIS topic. But, in THIS topic, people say that partitioning the SD card is not necessary at all..
@Cretu22: Yes stable recovery is CWM 0.6
Don't install stable recovery! I too faced this issue when I flashed using stable recovery. In snd init install Latest recovery and then try flashing your ROM. That should work..
I did choose the stable version indeed 0.6.7.
Now i did uninstall it and installed the latest 1.0.7, but when I reboot my phone it won't get into the boot menu but just boots into android. Tried it several times, but only with 0.6.7 I seem to be able to get in the menu

Yes, its working Pressing the volume down button was not necessary with 0.6.7, that was what went wrong. Now the zips installed like a charm
i know the answer and is very simple
the problem is that you cannot create that specific folder.... because it already exist, cmp (connected music player) creates it, just delete it from SD and done!

i need any launcher that can be installed from recovery

i deleted my only launcher and now i'm stuck with a black screen and a notification bar
i tried installing one through web market but i have the data saver option on so i can't download it

Hello!
I have the same issue with my Samsung S5690 Galaxy Xcover.
I accidentaly deleted a launch screen(home screene) with titanium backup on a rooted device. After that I rebooted for some stupid reason and it didn't go past the flashing samsung logo. After that I made a factory reset and tried to reboot again. This time it looked like I was saved but at the end it was only a black screen with only the top bar showing - where it displays the time, battery and what you can pull down with your finger to reveal different toggles for wifi, gps ect.
I tried the zip file that was made for pepo36 by crackeron.
I booted to recovery mode, made a cache wipe and a factory reset and executed the zip file only to find this error:
--Install /sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted
I have also tried installing a whole rom with the same message.
Any advise or ways to fix this issue? I have tried everything in my know how and without any effect.
Please help.
Thank you.

Because this is an flashable launcher (and not an APK) it must be made specifically for your phone otherwise you badly mess the ROM. By now reinstall the rom from begining.

XT319 Chinese ROM, 2.3.5, can boot into android system recovery, have a titanium backup of stock apk & extracted it.
it it possible to to make zip file of stock launcher or any other launcher & flash it from "apply update from sd card option".

with "aply update from sdcard" from stock recovery you can install only oficial updates not a custom .zip.
my advice is to flash again the stock sbf or make some search for a custom sbf for your pfone

Hi, the launcher may be device dependant. it probably doesn't work for your device. Try showing the flashable zip to other people who have your device, they'll be able to help you with what we've done here
Edit: It could be update binary that is incompatible with your recovery also. The one used here is a few years old and probably obsolete. Try using one that you find in flashable zips that work on your own device You may need to re-write the update script to accord with the binary, but it's an easy job, and if you're new to this, it's the first thing to learn about fiddling android

[Q] Motorola Defy Update to Android 4 Problem

Hi guys, I hope you can help me.
I have a Motorola Defy and was sick of being stuck on Android version 2.nothing and looked around the internet to see about updating it to version 4.
I have rooted it with superoneclick and downloaded 2 zip files which I have placed on the internal sdcard
gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
CM9-NIGHTLY-120613-Defy.zip
I have put the phone in boot mode. Done the wipe data/ Factory Reset option....all is good.
I then go to apply sdcard:update.zip and am met with the following message.
E:can't open /cache/recovery/command
E:can't open /cache/recovery/caller
--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package ...
opening update package...

E:failed to open /sd/update.zip(no such file or directory )

How frustrating! Could any of you fine people tell me what I need to do in order to get the defy running Android 4 please.
Many thanks

You need to use the 2nd Init installer APK, it sounds like your flashing using stock recovery! read this incredibly helpful guide.
Follow this step. Since you have already rooted your phone.
Download the 2ndint from here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12837303
download version 2.0, people say 2.3 din work for some.
Install the apk file.
open there app.
Click on install 2int boot.
Then reboot to recovery if you see a option.
If not reboot the phone, when you see a blue LED notification light ob start up, press the volume down button. This will take you to cwm recovery.
Wipe data/factory.
wipe cache.
Advanced - Wipe dalvik cache.
Install zip from sd card.
choose the rom, flash it.
Choose the gapps. flash it.
Wipe data/factory.
wipe cache.
advanced - wipe dalvik cache.
Reboot ICS
And hey you have downloaded ICS Rom and Jelly Bean gapps which won't work. so download ICS gapps from goo.im
