Rooting voids the warranty.
This is posted everywhere around the forum "Warning this will void your warranty"
Can you still boot into Hboot? (phone off, then volume-down + power button)The reason I ask is because if you can, its gonna be real easy to see if you have s-off, and if you can see it, they can see it.
Can they charge you for the warranty?, I would have to say yes, since rooting voids your warranty, they have a bottom line to protect and if they suspect you did something to viod your warranty they are gonna protect that bottom line.
You posted another thread about this same situation, your best bet is to return it to stock if possible, but like I stated in your last thread we need more info to help you. Refer to you last thread and post the requested info.
Rooting DOES void the warranty. BUT. There's hope for you, yet!
Follow this guide to UNDO the rooting process. I've done these steps, just to see if it holds to what it says. And i'll be damned, it works. Check it out!!

Hi folks. Please help me out. My screen got a crack in it...
I sent in in last week and got it back today. They did replace the screen, but they did also remove my root and all. (Updated firmware.) And i hope it will not be a pain in the ass to ROOT it again.? Do i need to downgrade?
This is what i got now:
Android 2.2
Kernel: 2.6.32.17-g30929af
htc [email protected] #1
Wed Dec1 15:10:40 CST 2010
Program version
3.15.405.3
webkit 3.1

I would appriciate if anyone could link me to a working rooting guide. Thanks allot in advance.

Thanks. I did read that guide and i have searched. And i got hboot 1.01.0000 ....
Looks a bit tricky. I dont know if i need to create a goldcard. last time i rooted, it worked without a goldcard. Here in sweden this phone is not locked or anything...
So i will skip the goldcard bit...I think ...hmm.
I did not have to pay because i had root. But i had to pay 500 SEK.
Warranty. Its about 50 USD...Soo i had to pay with or without root.
For a new glass. But im annoyed that they updated the firmware without my permission. thats all. I had my phone exactly as i wanted it. Now its fabricated default, and i dont like it.
I dont have to create a goldcard to root. Because this phone is not operator locked.
Anyway. Does this guide work also?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725430
Or do i have to use this first? http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-legend-legend-modaco-com/323201/downgrading-from-froyo-ota/
I need to read up one or two days i think. I do not want to mess up and brick it. But bricking the phone is pretty hard i guess...
Hmm. Thanks for the response. This is a great forum with allot of info. I just need to know where to start exactly.
This one should be the most easy one. http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-root-the-htc-legend/
But its the downgrade thing i need to work out first last time i rooted i just ran some .bat files with that guide and it was done. easy as pie.

Is this s-off, s-on in the way? I guess my phone has s-on.
I cant even get root with the command promt. When i type: su , i get access denied.
Dont know why really. I used temproot and all.
DoNe.
I managed to get root after posting last time.
Then i followed this guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894465 ....And now i got ROOT :]
Thanks for this forum. Awesome. Now im running CM6. But i wanna try this one out.
B 0.6 based on stock HTC FroYo (01/14/2011)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866849
But i dont know if it just works from the sd card with rom manager? Or do i have to create partitions and stuff? If so, im going with CM6...
If you don't want apps2sd or data2ext, you don't need to create partitions...

This is off topic but did HTC repair your phone? If so, your pretty lucky you got it fixed without extra charges to unroot the phone. At least that's what I was told they do.

HTC didn't repair his phone. His insurance company sent it to a third party repair shop (anovo). And it cost him 500SEK.
Okay that makes sense.
Hi i have a nexus s with stock 2.3.4 rom and i never rooted it so i have a locked bootloader , my phone has an SLCD screen , i have seen a lot of tutorials but i don't know wich one is the right for my device , could someone help me please.
Sorry for my english
If I understand you correctly, you want to root and unlock your device is it?
First, take out your battery, tell us which exact model you have by reading off the sticker underneath the battery.

Im a n00b...try to research on how to root my SNS
I have a i9020T Nexus S running 2.3.4, and I'm also considering rooting for the first time. If I root, will that in any way effect my ability to receive future updates (e.g. I won't get OTAs from google, etc)? Note that I'm not planning on installing a custom ROM, I'm just planning on rooting my stock build.

Rooting doesn't effect OTA updates. Rooting is just a matter of flashing su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip. You have to flash it with ClockworkMod recovery, which most likely will require you to first unlock the bootloader. Follow the stickied rooting guide for your phone, the procedure is still the same. You can relock it afterwards if you want to keep the bootloader locked.
unlock bootloader = wiped out all my data.
i kinda wish I can create an image but then all the app allow me to do that requires root..lol

Just got the M9 today.
Unlocked, rooted, Installed TWRP, S-Off.
Then I was trying to update to the latest 1.32.40.17 firmware, but I forgot to superCID (11111111).
My cid was HTC__059.
So, the phone stalled forever...had no choice but Vol Up + Power button. Then the phone was tuck at a weird screen with few options of reboot the phone, reboot to bootloader... But no matter what option to choose, the phone just did not reboot to that.
Vol up + Power...Vol down + Power....I dont remember what I pressed cuz I had to press those combo many times, but luckily got back to the download mode. & things went well.
So......SuperCID right after S-Off people.
What a close call
This happened to me, but it happened for no reason. Screen said press this for reboot then just went back to the same screen. Had to hard reboot to fix
PEBKAC.

Good advice. Wish there were more threads like this, cos I am not new to flashing but new to htc..
i am unlocked and rooted, but still S-On. Contemplating to go S-off.
So, after S-off then SuperCid, does that mean we can flash "any" rom from any custom rom/any region? but if we are 1.32 we cannot flash 1.40 roms right? we must go back to stock to take the update? i think that is where a few (who are new to htc like me) are confused.
I believe that with S-on, u can flash custom rom that has matching base/firmware.
Put your phone in download mode, the OS tells you your firmware.
Look for roms that has matching base/ firmware.
You dont have to go back to stock. You can flash the latest OTA, it will update your phone to the latest firmware, then flash latest rom.
S-off & superCID let you flash any firmware, any radio, any rom from any region.
I do think $25 is worth the S-off for my case.
I flashed the latest firware, but didnt like it much because of some kernel bugs. So i went back to 1.32 for more stability.

Not sure mate, I take it u are on maximus?
Basics are u need to install sunshine app and run it. It will tell u whether it will work before asking for payment. It won't work on ahrd for whatever reason, if u are on maximus rooted and the sunshine app asks for payment then u are good to go

As long as you're only flashing signed firmware for your model and carrier. Anything else will give an error with S-on.

No harm,no foul,we've all done similar on at least one occasion.
You're a good man for offering to help ! :good:
Any help with that?
I am also awaiting an answer.
My last 2 Samsung phones had issues and I needed to Odin back to stock for warranty exchange at T-Mobile.
So I'm holding off on rooting till we have something of the sort for the v20.
Using Odin to flash my s7e back to stock while having severe screen issues saved my butt.
I'm on JoD for reference, and needed to switch phones at a brick and mortar.
Side note : loving the blooming development for this device.
Thanks for that, all parties concerned.

Does this unroot method work for the sprint variant? I am stock unrooted on the build the phone came out of the box with, and waiting until rooting isn't a one-way street to take the plunge. If it does, are you 100% certain that it had been used in sprint v20s successfully?
That thread specifically says H918. So no.

You are in the exact same position as me. I'm excited that we have an unlocked bootloader and root for the Sprint variant, but I have no desire to do anything until there's an established procedure to unroot and revert back to stock.

Here's hoping it's taken care of. Sprint didn't used to be such a **** when it came to bootloaders. Anyways, I appreciate all the hard work the devs have been doing. Can't wait until I get the chance to experience it. With a stable 200mhz overclock, there's no functional difference between the snapdragon 820 and the snapdragon 821.
Do any of the posted methods work to restore the VS995 variant to stock?
I really want to go ahead and root it (and yes, have disabled updates so still run 12A since I knew VZW was going to be evil and patch it) but I'm very hesitant to do so without a way to restore to stock. Is it one of those things that's just a matter of time, or is there a substantial likelihood it may never be possible?
