[Q] Sprint Apps (TV) for Edify method? - Epic 4G General

Does anyone have(or could make) a .zip for the sprint apps that works with the Edify method? Specifically the sprint TV.
I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow and need the streaming Disney Channel to entertain the kids! I'd be very thankful if anyone could help me out.
Thank you!

I think now that the accusations of EXT4 having a disease have caused a standstill in developing for it until a definitive answer can be made regarding the safety or not.

Given that many industry professionals have weighed in and made it clear there is no danger and that the preliminary results from people showing how many bad blocks they have (thread found here):
kenvan19 said:
I'm going to compile the results from so far:
RFS: 3, 3, 5, 5, 15
Average of 6.2 bad blocks
EXT4: 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 2, 2, 3, 7
Average of 1.6 bad blocks
I'll keep compiling as other people report but to me the only thing that really stands out are the two outliers; they both represent people who do a lot of ROM flashing. The only moral I see is to be careful how often you flash ROMs as it seems to cause a higher percentage of bad blocks.

There is clearly no negative side effects or they are at least negligible.

Especially since some of those professionals are the ROM developers.

You don't have to have ext4 to use edify. The old clockwork supported both edify and amend. And everyone should be switching to edify in the near future anyway. Amend was never meant to continue as long as it has.
Edit: The Viper Store in this thread has the SprintTV.apk. You don't need an update script to install an apk.

Thanks! I actually just found that myself, and was coming back here to update. I dropped the apk into systems/app with Root Explorer and it works like a champ.

Also I installed a sprint tv zip back when I was running EE 2.1 and pheonix kernel and just backed it up using astro and I havebeen able to reinstall it on every rom I've gone to since, including my newest-bonsai 1.1.3 that uses cwm3.0 so I would suggest backing it up

Data2Ext Hack Blows Benchmarks Out of the Water

http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/12/11/data2ext-hack-blows-benchmarks-out-of-the-water/
Pretty big news out of the XDA-Forums today – forum member and resident genius Ownhere has come up with a ‘data2ext’ hack that allows users to enhance the way Android handles OS-specific data and memory. Put simply, this hack allows users to change some partition settings in order to greatly increase performance.
Originally created for the HTC Desire, the hack delivers some outstanding performance improvements and is a must have if you own the device. For more technical information, you can click here. A word of warning, though: this hack is not for the feint of heart as it is fairly difficult.
Interesting..
Pretty nice...3000 points in Quadrant is huge. Maybe we can get something similar to our devices as well...Santa Claus is approaching
not today's but they are great...if the hack doesn't destabilize the device or harm safety...

Same here...
I read the post howto for desire and it looked sooooooooooo complicated...
This will be fairly easy to implement... but things could go very bad using this mod. Like for instance if you make a sudden power-off... filesystem may stay in such state that it cannot be mounted on the next boot and for novice users this could mean that wipe should be made to resolve this situation.

This problem should only be there if you really disable journaling. From the original post:
As you see, the best speed is: mount real ext4 device with loop option, disable journaling. The best balance of performance and safe is mount real ext4 device with loop option, enable journaling! We don't need a loopfile but just change mount option.

As long as journaling is enabled this should be quite safe. At least thats what journaling is for
If someone will implement this, it would require microSD card class >= 4, to use this hack. Am I right?

Anyone tried this on their Hero yet?

I saw this script in the android hacking forums and it looks like something that would be very beneficial to our phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111145
Everyone thats used it seems to say they've noticed a big increase in performance. I want to try it but I'm not sure how to determine if a kernel has init.d or if we even have one that does.
Curious to see if anyone else has tried it? good or not?
I think the hero is running init.d since if you look in the / directory on your internal you see ------.init.d or something similar. I put -'s because I cbf to actually remember the name.

I'm running jaybob's aosp cm7 with a .29 kernel. I installed the script to /etc/init.d , rebooted. haven't noticed any big difference yet, but I also haven't figured out how to see if it even "took".

Went into terminal emulator and did a "free" command. I think this script set up a swap file, I show 35084 for swap, bringing total memory up to around 230000. Before ruining the script, I did not have a swap.

Not kifno.
The join date was Jan 2011. But these scripts have been around a while. People just take bits and pieces from different scripts people have come up with and then make their own (k**no). Some people notice a difference and some don't. I didn't look through the whole thing, but more than likely parts of it aren't even affecting your phone. Just depends on the kernel and the ROM.

Only 600% improvement, I've had better.
Well, it did give me swap. Seemed to help.
Gin and Salsa.
The script itself is actually quite real and has improved performance on a lot of phones.
I applied it, but in all honesty, I don't know if it's made a difference, I don't use my phone enough to be able to notice.

File Explorer

I like to share a thought with everyone, but specially with the programmers.
How come all rom’s for this Smartphone, that looks like a computer, don't include a simple File Explorer?
It’s so basic, isn’t it?
Perhaps next roms can include this simple but so usefull feature....
MIUI has a file explorer, the philosophy for the Oxygen ROM is to make it as light as possible, and from the void. OP : "I hate ROMs out there which impose you their applications, keyboard, launchers and any other trash. No, it's my belief we have market for some reason, so use it."
AFAIK the CM7 got a file explorer... I usually install a new file explorer (the one from Stockwell's B160) when I use other ROMs than MIUI
MIUI is the Rom I just flashed and the explorer in it has 3 option (Navigate/SD Card/FTP) well non of this work with me, e.g., can't see any files.
I don’t have external SD card but we should be able to "navigate" on the phone directories.
The other, I understand and respect the philosophy of keeping things as light as possible, but it’s a file explorer, how heavy could this be?
Tried to use the internal sd card, and I understand your problem. Hopefully there is a fix for this, because the MIUI file explorer is relly nice
MIUI is only nice for the eyes.

I don't really think that MIUI is that useless.. I just underclocked my phone a bit(just 'coz MIUIs default clock freq. is 1018 and I wanted to compare to stock(806)) and quadrant averaged around 2000, which is approximately 500 points higher than an average stock-ROM would have given me..
Well, all stock-ROMs are still froyo, so maybe that is the biggest boost in performance, but in my experience, MIUI with franco-kernel and zram is quite good.
AND it's nice to the eye!
Oh, and I was running minmax, not performance..

I must totally disagree with you there. I find Stockwell's MIUI very fast, even when not overclocked. And with Franco.kernel and zram it is blazing fast.. Maby you didn't try the ROM long enough. At first after you flash it, it stutters in the launcher etc. But i think it just needs to build up cache or something, then after 1-3 minutes it is fast!
Actually android have a file manager by default. I don't understand why the rom creators don't include it.
This thread is pretty much useless...Just use the freaking Market and download Astro or FS File Manager...Is that so hard??

Are you kidding me? In android, you can choose not the share your gmail account. I can understand you can trust google or you don't afraid anything from google. But this is people choices. You can at least respect their additude about that. Do you aware of the market don't work without gmail account? Maybe i don't want to use my any accounts on phone.

I don't mean to offend anybody, but there is nothing to respect here, this attitude is actually childish... If you've installed a custom ROM, then you should know how to install a File Manager from CWM and stop winging about something silly things.
What is the difference with using or without it? I just don't get it the why people forced to use market or data connection. Thats all. Even if the people can use CWM that is not mean they can make update package. I mean update-script .. bla bla.. Filemanager is just 689KB file. I don't get the point removing it.
Whatever. Seems like i can't make myself clear to you.

Market is meant to help you, nobody is forcing you to use it, but if it's there and it's free, why not use it?
I believe there are some licensing issues, as most application developers are not happy when their app is distributed with custom Roms (if the file manager is free, the app developer gets paid through the number of downloads each day and if everybody stops downloading, then developers are not going to be happy). That's why CM7 doesn't have the Google Market and other Roms are missing apps...

I've explained why there is no File Manager (in Oxygen and CM7) and how to get get/install it...if this is "dis-helping" then you've big issues...
The point is: don't expect Developers to hold your hand with every everything you want to install on a CUSTOM rom, they've got better things to do.

u got me totally wrong (just as u usually did in other posts as well)..
i dont need a file explorer in this rom (or whatever rom).. i like to keep roms minimal and thats why i choose oxygen..

and if the developers think this request is not to be entertained, its their decision..
what on earth gives u the authority to judge other's requests, and make comments such as "childish"?

NFL Mobile + root = no go???

So as some of you may already know, the latest update for the NFL Mobile app (came out this morning I think) has officially killed its functionality with rooted (or "non stock Android") devices. A story on Android Police can be see here.
At any rate, I saw a recent post on a GSIII forum (here)where the user claimed to have a workaround which, among other things, involved renaming the superuser.apk, however if you're using CM nowadays then you'll know there really isn't a separate apk - instead it is now integrated into the rom. That being said, does anyone have any idea similar to this that might work for tricking the app into thinking it isn't running on a rooted unit? I have no clue myself, but seeing as how no one has started a dedicated thread for this in the forum of the current Google flagship phone, I thought I'd get things started.
Thanks in advance people!
Well I guess it looks like no one has any ideas...? Oh well, a rare swing-and-a-miss for solutions in the xda community
A quick fix would be to just find the apk for an older version and install that one. That's what I'm currently trying to do, there's no reason for then to block us from using it just because we're rooted.

Well yeah, I mean I already uninstalled and then restored a backed up version of the app using Titanium Backup. The problem is - and if you've been a user of the NFL apps over the last year or two then you'll know this - that the NFL app is not like most apps where each upgrade just adds some incremental upgrades or changes. With this app the upgrades are typically pushed out right before the start of the key timeframes of the NFL season: usually an update right before preseason; another before the start of the regular season; another at the start of the playoffs; another right before the Super Bowl; and once more right before the draft in April. Each update is specific to that time period of the season and usually contains the critical information/tweaks/additions/UI alterations specific for that segment of the year. Point being, after missing an update or two, the app becomes extremely outdated and eventually useless. And that's why, in the mid-to-long term, just using the older version of the apk unfortunately isn't a useful alternative. Damn you NFL! Now we just have to hope the xda community will come to the rescue as they usually are able to do

Ooooh gotcha. I didn't realize that that's how NFL ran their app. That's really annoying.
i'm not rooted, but that does seem like somebody went off the deep end with this app. rooting a device won't hurt their revenue, in fact, it will probably increase it from allowing ALL Android (and iOS) devices access the app. instead, they're cutting off access to a HUGE chunk of their fans, present and future. in essence, they're biting the hand that feeds them.
i voted the app down in the app store out of principal alone.
I am extremely displeased with this as well and am searching for a solution. Leave it to Verizon to try to control how you use YOUR phone.

Awesome, sounds good
Just in posting my thread I got a ton of hits of people freaking out about the new app...lol
FYI, they have fixed the app and it is now working perfectly fine on rooted devices strait from the play store
I might be the only one it's not working for. Wondering if anyone can help.
I cannot get 95% of the buttons to work in the Fantasy section of the app. Not only that, when I said 'to hell with the app' and went to their mobile site (which looks exactly like the app), I got the same thing... 95% of the buttons on the mobile site wouldn't do anything.
Now, on my N7, everything works fine.
Any ideas?
Edit: It was Ad Away. Can't use the app while it's running. Now I'll try to find the hosts file and see if I can edit the NFL entries out of it.

Eh? I think,
You are wrong....
There is pretty much EVERYTHING DECENT about Chainfire's ability and dedication to continue rooting each successive version of Android. Pixel was first to ship with 7.1, and there ARE differences between the new systemless root and 6.0 or 6.0.1 root methodology.
