So i am fairly new to root, to roms, to cooking, etc... (jumped the gun and was on leak 3 forever, got a refurb due to a cracked screen, which had leak 3 on it (go figure) so anyway, i'm cooking myself a rom, and i'm wondering, how would i link an app that i know is in the market (but i have pulled from my phone to put into this rom) back to the market, so it would receive updates. Like, i'm using Launcher Pro as my launcher, but it's not linked to the market, it's always going to be at version like 0.7.0.4 unless i manually update it... and i feel like there is a way to link it...
Any help appreciated, tried to search, but it was no luck.

The only thing i can think of is when there is a new update download it from the market, overwriting the app in itself, which will put it into the update loop. an educated guess but it may work. the only thing that might stop it is that it will be cooked in as a system app and i dont know if the market will let you overwrite it.
make sure the apk is installed to /data/app
and NOT /system/app
should update fine then
ok, yea i had tried to put apps in their before, but those apps have to be in com.domain.package.apk format... and then they automatically get linked to market, i have no idea any of the reasons for why any of this works, but it does, so thank you
I finally took the plunge and rooted/loaded a new ROM on my wife's phone. Everything went smoothly and I figured that the best/easiest choice for a new ROM would be the CyanogenMod ROM 6.0 that just came out.
Since I loaded the new ROM, I've noticed a few things that I hope someone can help me fix.
First, one of the main reasons that I wanted to load the ROM is so I could get rid of that Amazon Mp3 app. The Froyo ROM I installed still had it
Also, I've noticed that when I try and rotate the screen, it takes several seconds (some times close to a minute) to actually rotate. This mainly happens right when I unlock the phone.
My wife says that the option to have separate tones play when an e-mail comes in vs an SMS has gone away. I haven't played with it, so IDK about this. She just wants to know if the message received was an email or a text.
There were some other things, but I don't remember what they were, so if I remember I'll post. But those are the big ones. If there is anything I can do to fix them, let me know please! Also, if there is a better, smoother, faster ROM for MT3G 1.2 than the CYGN 6.0, I wouldn't be opposed to reflashing.
Thank you for any help!

Let's start off by moving this to General.
The best way to remove a system app (Yes, Amazon MP3 is considered a system app) is by installing Titanium Backup and using that app to remove any system app that you don't want installed. I used it recently to remove Street View (Street.apk) and I was able to install the newest version from Market after a reboot.
There should be no reason why it would take any more than a couple of seconds to rotate your home screen. How many widgets and shortcuts do you have? Try locking the Launcher app to memory. That may help.

Thank you! Sorry for posting in wrong forum. I debated General and Android... should have gone General!
As per the homescreen, I believe she only has 2 widgets: Analog Clock and some task killer widget. IDK if the task killer widget is the root of the problem, but I will have her remove it and see if that fixes it. I also don't know how to check if it is using a lot of system resources. Is there some kind of Taskmgr app that will tell me if that app is a resource hog?
Thank you for your response!
That Task Killer Widget. Oh My, that is one resource hogger. I tried it on my Tilt with Froyo ... it hogged up badly . I gave up, and got me a new myTouch 3G 1.2 off ebay.
Ok, I got the sound thing all working (really easy. Should have looked b4 I asked) But the rotation is still really slow
I was given a Droid to help develop a mobile application recently, and even though it has similar specs to the MT3G, and the same OS version, there is not lag in the screen rotation. I've installed most of the same apps on the Droid and still there is no lag.
Is there something else that could be causing the lag? Any thoughts?
Thanks
Have you uninstalled task killer yet? they actually do way more harm than good.
Froyo on Mt3g 1.2?
Correct me if I'm wrong, please, but I thought the only Froyo images for MT3g 1.2 were buggy at best and didn't support wifi or camera, among other things.
A guy I work with just put Froyo on his G1 and says it works faster than Eclair. I want in on that action!
As a MT3G user, I've found that the 6.0 Rom from CY is horrible with a Mytouch sadly. It's the rom not agree'ing with the Mytouch that is the problem, not the phone.
I'd suggest the 6.1 RC1 Mod from Cy, or this linked Rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814142
I've had no problem with the linked rom working for me. I had some minor issues with the RC1 not recieving all my texts, though honestly I upgraded my radio at the same time as changing over to the new Rom, so I'm not sure if it was the ROM or the Radio.
Does anyone else have to tap something multiple times in order for it to actually do something? Seems like I'm always tapping something more than once. I don't know if I should blame the Kindle or it's OS. I've never had to tap so much on my iPhone to get it to do something.
what rom are you on ? had this with stock 6.2.1 - now with 6.2.2 it's way better - reacts nearly every time
I'm on 6.2.2. 6.2.1 had this problem, and all "flavors" of 6.2.2 (stock and otherwise) seems to do it. Doesn't matter what app I'm in either.
I get this in golauncher l. I press on an Icon see the pressed Icon transition but nothing happens. I'm gonna assume because the launcher is not specific for tablets. Kindle launcher doesn't have the tapping issue
I'm going to attempt to wipe it and reload 6.2.2 stock. Well, the stock version available here so it doesn't blow away FireFireFire and TWRP
After a full backup of course.
I'm nearly positive it is an OS issue. The responsiveness of early ICS ROMs was pretty bad, but it has improved a lot especially in the last week. Hashcode has released some fixes in the past few days specifically related to this actually.
At first I also had this problem using ICS roms, but now Im on barebone CM7 & also using an app called Touch Recalibrate modded for KF, and I never had to tap twice again ever since
I dont remember exactly where I saw the app tho, lol
been putting this off but the install update popup is killing me. i like my 7 as is, its rooted, not romed, i have the stock browser from my nexus phone working well, much better than firefox does with flash. over all, i just wanna make the update pop up go away. i don't see any roms i want to try, and all the so called stock update roms, seem to have issue 16 pages into the thread.
from what i can tell, the stock browser from the nexus phones will not work after the update, so i'm stuck with firefox crash fest to use flash. and to get it to update, i will have to flash back to stock, update, re root and then reset everything up. this sounds like a total pain at this point, to have it do nothing but get rid of the update popup.
someone set me straight, have i missed an easy update way, a stock updated rom that isn't crap and a verison of the stock browser that works on it, oh and anyone know if the news widget works after the update? i really like having that from the phones too. or just a way to hide the update pop up?
i've run so many different roms on my old d1 and like sourcery on my nexus. but on my tab, i like it how it is, well with apex launcher. anyway i find to update it, seems like i'm giving something up.
any thoughts?
You could try this.

ended up going the long way around... miss the browser thou. even more now that chrome updated and seems to be for the worse lag wise.
I used to do a lot with my Droid Bionic (dual boot, Linux, everything...) but I got busy and kind of lost interest when I got my Note 3 (9005) a couple of years ago. Anyhow, the Galaxy is slowing to a crawl and eating the battery like candy, so it's time to wipe it and start fresh. I like KitKat (and never upgraded) because I use the long-press "recent app" feature about 100 times a day. I don't want to loose that, so I was thinking of going with CM11, but all of the links I can find are dead.
Does anyone have a good link? Does that feature still exist with some other rom? Does someone have a better idea?
Thanks

As far as I know, any Android version has "recent apps" integrated so you can't go wrong with newer ROMs if that's what you're worried about. I think you won't find any working Kit Kat ROMs, you're better off going Lollipop and beyond.
You can remap buttons fonctions the way you want on any android version.
If you still want kitkat (a good custom one), look for Jackyaway rom.
I'll look for jackyaway. Is it a CM rom?
Remapping buttons is fine, but I thought they did away with the "recent apps" functionality after KitKat because they didn't want people killing apps and messing up the memory manager?

I don't think they would ever remove the recent apps function (see attached screenshot)
And even so, I really doubt you would have any problems with this phone's memory. It might be a 4 year old phone but it's still got great specs.
The wife let her phone update. I didn't (never do). I couldn't find the "recent apps" functionality and, when I googled it, posts said it was gone. Now it just looks like it moved? I guess it's accessed from the "menu" soft button on the home screen? Can you still access it from any app like on KitKat?

That is correct, it can be accessed from any app with no problems
Try going for Slimkat. Works fine for me.
