[Q] (ATTN:Devs RE: Hulu) not sure where to post - EVO 4G General

First and foremost I Praise be to the Devs on this site, you are gods to the android community
Second: I looked around the forum and I swear I didn't see a post about this so I apologize if it's a repost.
I was sitting in my house tonight and had a friend come over that I decided to root his evo for him and use the current Mikfroyo. So I get done with the root and rom and start going through things to make sure it was stable. long story short, I opened the Hulu app and it stated that it wasn't supported (ArGH!). I tried the same on my Evo that I rooted two weeks ago and it didn't work either (Loving the Rom BTW thank you for making it, donating when I get the cash)... anyway are any devs aware of this (I tried different versions as well and got the same)
Posted this here just to be safe, if this needs to be else where I hope someone will move it.
Thank you Devs for all that you do and I'm learning to create my own rom on here hopefully one day it will be good enough to post side by side with you guys

Donate to Haykuro!!!

Hey, it just occurred to me that if everyone who CAN donates $20.00 to Haykuro, he will have himself a nice little fund starting up. If you can donate more, do so. This kid deserves our REAL thanks for all of this work. Lets pony up guys.
17 years old and kicking open source ass... he deserves to be rewarded.
EDIT: Find the link to donate on his iphoneproject.com page.
I'll surely give some $$$ if he can quickly fix market issue
by the way, your URL is invalid for paypal.
I donated a while back!
I donated a while back as well. What bugs me is that we have so many other people working on this like Daproy and Korndub and they get no $$$ or recognition for the most part. I say that Haykuro needs to set up a fund and split moneys received between people who contributed to this. None less, he is a genious.
I've had the same concerns as you.
I think Darkrift worked on this as well. Probably when the builds are pretty much complete, someone should put a list of everyone who contributed so we can send them all something as well.
I had some ppl offer donations but I have not worked on this nearly as much as you guys think. What I have done was my way of donating to him since I am poor and cannot do so with paypal. I tried to beta test when I could, write up tuts, answer questions and much the same as everyone else in the thread did. I do not know the extent of the others who are helping so I cannot say the same for them, but I personally have not been working hard enough on this to deserve donations (unless you wanna send me a free G1, I will take that )
If you feel the need to donate to me, send it here https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=4290101
Everyone has been very generous and caring, and I thank you all for that.
This post will give credit where it's due, and let everyone know what's up (clear some confusion).
History of the builds:
1. xmoo and his anonymous source post up a leak of the system folder from a developer magic (or something similar).
2. Everyone on XDA was going crazy, of course, and I tried to explain how to get it to boot properly, and no one listened, so I took it into my own hands to release a functional version.
3. After some talking with barakinflorida, he gave me the idea of implementing aHome into the build that way we had a home screen (at the time, no home screen was available as aCore crashed when you tried opening it).
4. After a week of running it, i noticed a OTA update being pushed (noticed it in logcat) i pulled it and released build 4.
5. I noticed the SPL and posted that, with the proper changes in update-script for the dream. Same thing with the radio.
6. korndub noted that my update-script for the radio was messed up and simply stripped down the update-script (not sure if you guys remember the recovery errors on my radio update, as opposed to korndubs stripped radio update).
5. A week later I got some info from darkrift which led to build 4.5.
6. After some personal tinkering i got google apps from 4.5 ported to build 4, and called it 4.9.
7. 5.0 was then released after daproy noted the camera and audio fix in the master branches of the kernel. he also kindly donated a pre-compiled kernel, saving everyone time from waiting for me to find a linux comp i could compile on.
8. Since then me and daproy have worked together to bring you the next builds. daproy provides me with the kernels, and i do everything else.
I think in the end, the people who would deserve donations would be up to you.
But this is the history of how it all came to be
I would prefer it were told like this (much more heroic):
5.5 Darkrift daringly put the life of his precious G1 on the line to test out various beta builds that haykuro made in a half asleep state. Fending away fire and deadly battery pulls, he made sure everyone who flashes one of those roms would still have a working G1.

Excuse me for being a NoOb, but here goes....
.... Is it possible to send my girlfriend through paypal? If so where can I find a "how-to"? It is very well deserved.
If she is hot, just send pics :S
Just donated $20 to the man ............. hope others follow and donate.
Keep up the good work man!
I donated a decent amount to hay and never even got a thank you. I will not donate again to him. The least he could have done was sent a thank you...
I'm gonna go ahead and give a big thanks to Haykuro/Darkrift since trying to install a2sd for the first time by following Darkrift's instructions led me to write my original tutorial(how passe that tutorial of mine seems now..), and subsequently my appstosd app, which led to the unionfs method and appstosd2. Of course other people helped along the way(TheDudeofLife, MartinFick, JF) but it was really Haykuro and Darkrift that got me going.
In short: you can partially thank both of them for having unionfs(somewhat ironic considering it was Haykuro's ROMs that never implemented it (j/k man, I think I had enough trouble trying to debug my script with TheDude's ROM))
EDIT: Upon rereading I realized that this could be taken as somewhat backhanded. I didn't mean that Darkrifts instructions were so bad I had to write my own. He intentionally(I now fully understand why) left out some parts of the process and I thought I'd take up the torch and try to have the whole thing in a way I saw as a little bit safer(or at least less scary).

I only started this thread because I know that this kid is 17 and still working on getting his HS diploma, also holding down a job AND working on these roms. Even after he was burned by someone on the forums, he came back when it was ready and gave us Hero (with a NEW Rosie smell)... He continues to put out roms for us and now the canucks with the Rogers rom. I also just saw that there's a Hero rom he just put out for those running Magic/Sapphire devices. The kid continues to work hard on this stuff and I think he deserves to be rewarded. No matter who was helping him get stuff to make the builds lets remember WHO brought the first cupcake to the masses... Now he's brought us a GOOD (not great yet, but it'll get there) version of a rom that we aren't even supposed to have ACCESS to!!! I, for one, think that this guy should get together with JF and Dude and whoever else and start a consortium and start getting paid to develop for Android. This is the OS of the future (for now) and there is some serious need for dedicated programmers who can make it all work... I think he is more on top of it than anyone out there...
That's what made me post this... I have donated a couple of times to the kid, and I'm not done. It's not to pay him for his product, but to thank him for working his butt off on something that he doesn't have to and then giving it away to the masses (again, he doesn't have to)....
So again, Thanks Haykuro and I hope your situation changes soon... Keep up the coding man....

No necessarily... I was actually just trying to explain why I singled him out for donations. I don't know him personally, have never seen the kids face... All I know is that he's been dedicated to making the device better, and sharing it with all of us, all the while going to school and work, dealing with everything that comes with being 17! I noticed some posts that mentioned all who helped him, and that's fine. This is about helping a kid who really needs the help. Who knows, Steve may be the next Gates or Jobs!!!

that's a permission issue most likely, run the "auto lucid" .bat program on these forums and it can restore the permision to apps2sd folders

Only if someone tries to make it ugly! And for the record, I'm no-one's fanboy. Let's look at it this way... In a community, those who have the means help those who need and deserve the help. Haykuro is in the latter group and a lot of us are in the former group. Would you have a thread closed based on the fact that you don't agree with the material? Does that sound like the way things are done on this board? If it is, I'm out!
EDIT: Mods, if you feel there's a better category than Dev for this thread, please feel free to move it...

Another leak...

I read this on sprint community forums. I'm hoping one of you brilliant devs can make something of it? I downloaded it, but am horrified to use it, as the last one (that said, "test" on it) really jacked up my phone good.
Just passing on this info:
From Android Central When it rains, it pours. Just got word of a new leak for the HTC Sprint Hero. No way of knowing if this is the final 2.1 version, but this one is signed with release keys so you will lose your root for sure if you're into that sort of thing. Anyone who feels brave and wants to try for themselves you can find it here. Remember, this is not official software from any carrier. Using this is at your own risk, and nobody here at Android Central is suggesting you try it, though we're more than happy to show you where it is. Thanks Beezy420! http://www.4shared.com/file/gfPzbRcS/RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2276515_R_si.html Haven't tried it myself...But I figured I'd post it..
Edit: Let me apologize if I posted this in the wrong section or if I was NOT supposed to post this kind of info. I just figured a dev would maybe want a crack at it?

[Q] Thread/Sticky for 2.3.3 exploit?

Please don't discount me as some ignorant noob despite my fairly low profile account.
I actually used to have an HTC Touch Pro 2 and used to flash custom ROMs like it was my job but once I got an EVO I decided against it because I didn't really have any complaints with the stock system. Until now of course.
I accepted the OTA update over the air without really knowing what it was. So I decided to go online and research what was actually included in the update and after doing some XDA searching was quickly refreshed on the joys of flashing customs. In the painful irony of it all, I quickly realized that by accepting the update I had screwed myself into some custom flashing purgatory where I suffer from that "itch" for a new custom ROM that we all know.
Anyways, long story short, I was wondering if there was any type of sticky/thread that is continuously updated on the progress of a 2.3.3 exploit or maybe the progress of the unrevoked team so that when I search for that sense of hope multiple times a day I can simply check one location. I did some searching for such a thread but returned no results.
Thanks in advance and hats off to the devs for all that they do.
damn....that sux that you had no complaints until AFTER the OTA update. thats definitely a bad stroke of luck.
I would say, in the mean time, try out different home launchers to try to get the different feel for them (i.e. if it's the Sense launcher that's bugging you, change it up ) I like both LPP (LauncherPro Plus) and ADW...tho I prefer LPP
and to answer the main question: No...there isnt a sticky or thread discussing the progress of the root exploit.

hopefully the devs will get the exploit out soon so 1)we stop getting the threads demanding the exploit (im not saying this is one of them...just saying that there have been 1 too many of those threads as of late) 2) so that you can start experiencing that "itch" again
I personally will take the OTA and then reroot after the exploit is out so that I'll know how to help others
Progress won't be mentioned until the actual exploit is found, so there's no need to search for a progress report. Until the exploit is found, the progress would be "nothing yet"... so that's pointless to post. As soon as a root method is made, you won't have to search for it. Go to the Evo Q&A section and you'll see questions about it - you'll see discussion & celebration in the General section. You'll probably see the root method itself (unless it's Unrevoked) in the Development section. You won't have to go past the first page to know it's here.
That being said, there's no need for a sticky. And unless you're trying to build a root method yourself, no need to search.
People have to realize that these devs do this in their free time, for free. It bothers me that people that have never given these devs anything expect the new root method now. I'm not talking about you, but so many others come here whining about nobody telling them when it will be ready or about nobody rooting it yet, as if they're owed something. If I had the skills to find a root exploit, I would stop working on it because of these kids *****ing and moaning.
Again, I'm not talking about you... I'm just ranting.
I agree completely. I found it funny that you guys call these guys "trolls." It's perfect. On the PPCGeeks forums back when I was flashing for my HTC Diamond we just called them douchebags but I like trolls, it's clever.
I also wish I had the skills to discover the exploit. I would love to give back to the community. It's all a little over my head though. I'm just another guy reaping the benefits of those generous enough to provide a more enjoyable experience from our devices and liberation from the corporate *cough* horsesh;t.

The HTC Diamond is like 3 or 4 years old by now. These days that's an eternity. I tried using my old diamond for a week or so a couple of months ago, and while I still love the size and form factor, I can't stand the lag factor. The os of windows mobile doesn't bother me, but the lack of power sure does.

I wouldn't consider myself old school at all but I would say I have experience. I was flashing for about 2 or 3 years with a combination of the Diamond and TP2.
I'm not crediting myself with any kind of "elderly knowledge" if that's what your concerned about. Some newbs probably know more than me definitely with the Evo being a different OS altogether.
And yes, I loved the phone but the lag was unbearable.

[Req] Repository Files and a Goodbye {of sorts}

Hello all,
Many of you know me from around the boards here and I have tried to help most of you at one time or another. Well, as you can see from both my avatar and my signature, I have a new title and a new device. The TMobile BOGO SGS3 and SGS2 was too sweet of a deal and the family CFO, pulled the trigger (fyi, the CFO is NOT me )
With that being said, I will probably be limiting my time in the Vibrant fora for the near future. I still don't know what devices I will be allocated as I just received notice yesterday. Between mine and my wife's phones and tablets and the devices I will be assigned to, I will be stretched thin at first.
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone in here that has helped me. I was a new user once too and fortunately someone was there to help me. That has always been my philosophy. They helped me when I was panicking, so the least I can do is help someone else when they are panicking. After all these are expensive little toys we have here, eh? If you check eBay's Vibrant listings, there are very reasonably priced, which means that there will be an influx of new users soon enough with their questions, bootloops and PC connectivity issues. Please try to help them as much as you have helped me.
**********************
With that being said, I am going to post a thread probably this weekend or next with some of the older harder to find files hosted in my Dev-Host account. They will be in there for as long as I have the internet (meaning there is no expiration and the files won't get stale and deleted). I am not going to put any ICS/JB ROMs in there bc they are all still fresh and new, so they should be readily available. Same with ICS/JB kernels
What I need is some of the older files that were either hosted on Multi or Mega that are gone. Below is a list of what I have already. If you can, please PM me a link to any files that you might think would be worthwhile to put on there. This will not be a BIBLE and shouldn't be used as a Q&A, hence the Repository Title.
Files I have:
Stock 2.1 JFD (Pit/Tar files)
Eugene's Froyo that Does Not Brick
Bootloaders:
Froyo Bootloaders
Gingerbread Bootloaders (I have all three)
2.1 JFD with GB bootloaders already injected.
Odin/ Heimdall/ AIO Toolbox:
4 different versions of Odin
2 Versions of Heimdall
AIO Toolbox
Themes:
Almost all 2.2/2.2.1 themes
Bootanimations:
About 20 Boot Animations
ROMs:
Zendroid
Toxic8 (Original and not Fish's mod)
Deranged9 (Original and not Fish's mod)
Bionix (Original and not Fish's mod)
CM7.1 Stable
Kernels:
All 2.2/2.2.1
All 2.3.x
****************
This list is just off memory, but if there is something that you like or need, either send me a PM to include it or send me a link with it included so I can download and then upload to my Dev-Host acct.
Be easy my friends and I will still be lurking. And if for some reason they decide to give me the Vibrant threads with OKA1, I will still be putting this repository together.
Hey Woodrube,
You've been of much assistance in the Vibrant forums as well as other forums. We worked on that petition together and unfortunately, that didn't go too well. You've helped a lot of people across the forums and you deserve a new device! Have fun with it and thanks for taking the time to write guides and post useful information. Frankly, I like my Vibrant better than my Nexus S so I'll prolly stick around for a while, so, if anything, I can take over your threads if you don't have time. I don't mind helping at all and we share the same philosophy.
"I was a new user once too and fortunately someone was there to help me. That has always been my philosophy. They helped me when I was panicking, so the least I can do is help someone else when they are panicking."
It's sad to see you go, but you deserve a new toy to play with, so have fun with it!
Maybe you can PM me the new thread layout you were going to make so I can post it up (That way I can edit it and add files, etc. as I have files downloaded as well.) Of course, credit will be given where credit is deserved.
And once again, thank you for everything you've done in the Vibrant community!
Ya, that petition didn't pan out too well, got me an infraction too, but it is still active believe it or not. Last post wasn't too far off. Was a very passionaite plea and the 4 of us did our best. I actually used it as a reference with my RC application.
As far as the Repo thread, I'll still post it up and put the files in there. The reason for it is because there are soo many files out there that are needed and lost or just plain don't download anymore. When I got the RC, they gave me 40gb for free with unlimited up/downloads and no expiration date. So that isn't too bad a deal. Like I said, I still don't know what devices they will assign me too but I'll still be around, just sparingly.
Thanks for the kind words too.

@Woodman ...
You know my story already esp. how our "discussions" in your infamous ICS guide was monumental in building my confidence to make the jump ... into frenzied flashing fever. The journey's been all-good ever since (regardless of EU and the quirky hiccups along the way).
I had lurked for a very long time before even signing up for an account and then even posting a comment or question - ie. leary (& even already tired then) of the discouraging short-fused quips many-a-n00b had faced.
All it took was the patient demeanor and sage guidance of one person (el Wood Meistro) to change my perspective. You set the standard for being a class act, my friend.
I must say I've been impressed with the new stock of Vibrant regulars lately, and your empathetic philosophy definitely lives on through them. Wherever you end up, we'll all look forward to hitting that Thanks button on your future posts to come.
( In the meantime, I'll still see ya in our favorite watering hole ... )
I am one of the new vibrants users WoodRube has helped. I would like to say thank you once again for the help that you provided to this newb. Im sure there are many many more here that you have helped previously, and for that I say thank you. May you enjoy you're new direction to the fullest.
Hey woody, which device is yours and which is the CFO's?
sent from the depths of helly bean
Ha!! I love my wife but what do you think? She loves her GS2 now though.
I've got SGS3 w/JB leak, SGS2 w/ lighting fast ICS (compared to her last phone), my Transformer w/ICS or JB depending on my mood, her Nook Color with CM7.2 on it, maintaining my BIL's DroidX (due for upgrade) and last night my FIL asked me to set him up with a phone & tablet. Thank God my other in-laws are iOS fanboys/girls.

[Q] Newbie needs help

Hello,
I figure there must be tremendous amounts of threads that relate to what I may be asking for already, but I wanted to make sure I asked everything right until I head on my own and start messing around with my phone.
I currently have a two year old myTouch 4g, and it has run fine, though it does lag a lot ever since this one over the air update mobile had released...and I always knew I can install a ROM to fix that issue, but the issue at the time was I had no time (college and work).
I am now on spring break, and have a week of free time, and figured I can install a ROM to help my phone become "alive" and fast!
Well, I don't know much about ROMS or which ones are the best ones, but ideally, I want one that is very fast, stable, and if it is possible, can it even be the latest Jelly Bean or Ice Cream Sandwich? Never tried those versions out, figured I might be getting tired of Gingerbread.
I don't know a lot about how to do any of these processes but I am very capable of reading tutorials and links if you guys have any suggestions on that.
I once again apologize for making another thread about my desire to have a fast and running phone again, just wanted to make sure it gets answered as I had requested it to be.
Thanks!
I would suggest starting here for information concerning rooting: Newcomers please read me, a helpful little guide
After that, if you are on the right chipset and eligible to root, then I suggest reading the stickied guides in the Glacier dev forum to gain root access.
After that, as for which ROM is the best or fastest or most stable, there is no one here that can correctly answer that question except for you as everyone uses their phone differently. We also consider it somewhat gauche to ask as there are many devs here that share their work for free and it can be considered disrespectful to them. Feel free to try different ROMs until you find the one that feels right to you. Once you get set up and started, it is very quick and easy to flash a new ROM so you won't need a week if you want to change.
With that said, I am closing this thread. If you need help in getting root or installing a custom recovery then please post questions in the appropriate threads and people there will be glad to help.
Thank you,
mf2112
