Newest Odin - Epic 4G General

Where can I download the newest odin 1.61 from. I may have missed it but cant seem to find it. Also the Froyo release on here, how stable is it actually? I am running baked snacks right now and it is ok, but seems to be getting old and not great battery life. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.

can't post an external link yet - but here's the dev forum topic with a link to the link to the download -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861253

The stability is very nice actually. I have been running it for about 2 days and I am impressed by the difference in speed. Fairt warning though. the battery does get used differently now so untill you get ATK Froyo and get it configured properly you will running into much faster battery drain

You're gonna have to post more information than just saying it runs faster and smoother....how's the battery life, and other mechanics, any bugs, how long have you been running it?
Yah....not going to flash until i know how it works, battery, benchmarks etc. thank tho
Benchmarks do not change for me. Battery life is amazing. Better than 2.1 was ever for me. 14 hours since unplugged with medium use. 65% battery left.
What settings ate you using to achiever that battery life? 35 percent battery on fourteen hours seems like the phone was on standby and you didn't touch it

haha i had the same thought because i some how loose 60% battery over night on froyo roms so if this is true that you are getting god like battery then im going to flash this puppy soon. but i need feedback from multiple people. hopefully its great!
also can this be flashed on axura froyo based off of eugenes unofficial jk2 froyo???
Yeah I probably get around 16 hours with moderate use.
***Swyped onto XDA via Vibrant***
so can this be flashed over eugenes based jk2 rom or does it HAVE to be that rom exactly?
I flashed the kernel over the flashable version of the odin JK2. No issues, no FCs, no drama. This will do until R11.
Look like it's made by barakinflorida which if im not mistaken is eugene's friend.should be pretty legit.in fact its eugene and barak's site they been workin on
Yea battery is great. But i dont like the reception . . Or is it just me,??
Flashed it over onyx rom from team

I'd like to know this as well.
which is better onyx or obsidian ???
i am still on fusion 1.2 it is very stable for me so just wanted to know
before flashing
if you liked bionix final go with obsidian.
if you liked fusion (which is assume you do since your currently using it) then onyx is for you.
im using onyx right now and i love it. works just as good as when i was on fusion 1.2 but with the nice-ness of froyo.
but back to topic; more froyo kernels please.

foyo? or stay on 2.1? is it worth it?

I have been dabating wether or not to flash a froyo rom and modem. I am currently using ee with phoenix kernel and loving the battery life i get out of it. I have searched the threads but not to much pertaining the the battery life of froyo as there is no kernels yet, most replies to battery life on froyo are a simple its good or i get good battery life. I Wa wondering what kind of battery life people are getting with froyo roms. battery life is the 1st on my list of importance so some with respectable performance would be nice to know so i could make my first froyo jump. Thanks in advance.
I've been on it for a few days now (DK17). I don't use any task manager, or juice defender or anything like that. I have a start-up manager (autoruns) and thats it. I unplugged my phone yesterday at 10:30am and 12 hours later I still had 40-45% remaining after some moderate use... angry birds, asphalt and web browsing mainly.
Hope that helps!
I just flashed 2.2 and used it all day at work for texting, calling, facebook and web browsing and after 9 hours at work i had just under 80% battery life left.
If you are after battery life, then stay on 2.1. I have 4 backup batteries and didn't mind going to 2.2, but I did have a considerable battery life decrease. I find myself changing batteries atleast once a day with these beta 2.2 releases. Recently I haven't noticed it as much, but I think that is due to my getting used to the routine of changing batts every 6-8 hours depending on use.
I really do enjoy the perks of 2.2 though. Flash player with Hulu is awesome, faster phone than 2.1, and the developers are doing a great job of getting some custom themes integrated right now, which makes it not only run great, but look awesome.

I've used it the second it came out, some noticeable snags you'll work around just fine. I've had it for atleast 3ish weeks no major setbacks I guess. Just used clock and flashed it. Happy with over all with flash and other new twists....phone can be hairy at times, but I've foun several androids do on 2.2. Speaker everytme you pick up a call with he feature "off". I'd stay with 2.1 for now. My phone took a serious performance hit going to 2.2... something is wrong with that kernel. Not optimized yet maybe?

I don't know about you guys, but I am using ACS's Froyo build and my Epic has never had better battery life. By a large margin.
It seems the latest froyo release has been outstanding in terms of battery life. If you're looking for battery efficiency, definitely go with a froyo rom. If you're looking for performance, go with eclair. All in all however, froyo roms are fairly snappy especially considering they are at stock speeds. Can't wait for battery life increases once froyo roms get UV'd.
EDIT: on second thought, I'd have to recommend froyo either way. The improved web browser performance + flash as well as froyo gapps alone make the jump worth it. There's really no 'lag' to speak of on froyo roms... merely, the phone just seems faster on eclair switching between apps and loading/closing them.
I'm using epic experience 2.0(froyo) and my epic has never performed better. Especially gps locks in like 2-3 seconds even without wireless location check marked. Very fast and smooth. Probably just as fast if not faster than 2.1 overclocked to 1.2. For me it seems anyway. Way worth it in my opinion.

Honest to God I'll never understand comments such as these. If battery life is the most important thing then why the hell did you buy the most power hungry phone? You bought it for performance didn't you???? Performance and battery life are polar opposites. Much like horsepower and fuel economy.
Let me save you some suspense... you'll never get more than a day out of this phone. At least not if you actually use the damn thing. If you travel, take a car charger. If you are in the office, have a charger with you. If your job requires you to be away from power then bring an external battery. The phone lasts a normal work day between charges so install 2.2 and enjoy your phone for what it is... a powerhouse!
Btw, the battery life seems pretty good in comparison to stock 2.1.
Or u can buy one of the double or more life batteries for $100 that comes with a modified battery cover to fit the extended battery, then couple it with a kickass kernel (phoenix) and have the best of both worlds

It depends on what your definition of stable is.
For some stable is good battery and gps.
For others just how fast and appearance.
It's good news. Don't mind negative nancy. This signifies that we are one step closer to perfection.

GPS? That's a good one, what do you think? Just messin', but to be honest I don't know, but I would guess no. On the battery life, I would guess yes. The GPS on my vibrant sucked on the stock rom anyway, so I gave up on the featuee looooong ago.
Battery life is bad as always...or so i heard in the thread. Might try it later, but definitely not staying on it. Battery life is too important for me.
For me stable is when finished restoring my apps in cm7 or miui it doesn't say "process gapps.framework.com has stopped unexpectedly "

If you have been keeping up with the nightlies at all, this is not a major change from Nightly 36. However, the devs (especially atinm) have been hard at work trying to hammer out issues like bluetooth and the mute/unmute bug in order to push this over to RC, and soon (hopefully) stable. That being said, GPS is still not functioning, and battery life on the stock kernel is quite poor by my standards (I've gotten 8-10 hours max on light to medium usage). From a usability standpoint, it is quite operable and quick, however. On a fresh install I have gotten no force closes. In that way the ROM itself is quite stable. Several features are just not fully functional yet.

then don't restore from a 2.2 ROM.
Not everyone has bad battery problems with this! i sure dont and If u had read the CM7 threads u would see that This is as stable as its gonna get without further gingerbread source leak. The mute/unmute problem has been fixed from i have read, But there is no gps But its sure stable enough for most people as a daily driver.
I have the same problem w/ CM7 as I do with the rest of the non-stock roms. I lost data within 24 hrs of flashing. There seems to be an issue with some phones and maintaining data after rooting go figure.
My cm7 is just fine. I don't use GPS do that doesn't bother me. I get about 7 hours of medium-heavy usage, which is just fine for me. Cm7 shows how much of a beast our device is. I have no Oc and I get 2011 on quadrant. When I did overclock to 1.6 I got 2908. I get no problems though.

Not everyone has battery problems because not everyone has ever gotten "good" battery life.
For those of us who have gotten battery life in the I-only-need-to-charge-ever-two-days range, the battery life in CM7 (most recent I've used is #36) is horrendous.

Its official!!!! Read this!

Well its official... 2.3.4 DOES still have the android OS drain problem!
My phone had an issue with the usb port and had to be sent away for repair last week.
I picked my phone up on Monday (2 days ago) after it had been repaired and it had been upgraded whilst it was away from 2.2.1 JPY ( I flashed it back to stock JPY before sending it away ) to 2.3.4 JVQ.
I have read a lot of posts debating that the OS problem is due to custom kernels etc etc, but my phone is still at the moment completely stock with only a few apps installed.
It was ok for the first 2 days but i have taken it off charge this morning and the android OS was draining 47% battery!
I lost 12% battery in 2 hours.
So yes the android OS bug DOES still exist n 2.3.4 stock roms.

Even if it's "official" I oppose all the opinions that Froyo was so much better for battery life:
I have been running every GB Stock ROM (with Voodoo or Hardcore Kernel) and the battery life with my 200+ apps is slightly better (after a workday with wifi on I still have 30-40% battery left with GB instead of runnning empty on Froyo). I had battery drain after flashing some of the stock rom versions, but I also used Titanium Backup to restore system settings so I blame this for the bad battery life.
Now - running on JVR with Hardcore K15i T10 - everything works great!
But, if you feel like going back to Froyo, do so and stop complaining about problems with GB you most certainly triggered yourself....
BTW, even if if this is OT, could you please use more specific thread titles and stop insulting yourselves?

How to get a good battery life!

Well I don't no where to start really as I know I will get told off for making a new thread about battery life!
But this is hopefully some help for people out there that are trying to get a decent ROM and kernel to improve your battery life, well mine has really improved since flashing my Samsung GS2 with Lite'ning ROM 6.1 and flashing the kernel with SpeedMOD T-40.
I have spent lots of hours reading forums about battery life, I think I have tried everything known to man about this phone, somethings worked well somethings didn't, I wanted to get a decent battery life with out sacrificing any features I love about my phone!
When I got into rooting, about 2 months ago I was a n00b, but I stuck to it and learnt a lot each day, it's not easy and you can't expect someone to tell you how to do it, you have to read up about it like everyone else!
But anyway back to why I've created a new thread, well after installing Lite'ning ROM 6.1 at the beginning of the week which I really like as it keeps the Samsung software, I've used TB Pro to freeze the Hubs as I don't use them, the battery life wasn't what I thought, in fact I think I got a better battery life with the stock rom unrooted
I did some researching and found that the kernel can make a difference to (I'm still learning) so after reading some forums I learnt that speedmod kernel worked well with Lite'ning ROM, as It was just the kernel that came with the ROM, ninphetamine 2.0.5, so I flashed the kernel last night with Odin and within minutes I was back up and running.
I then charged the phone 100% and then use a battery calibrator app to wipe battery stats, I then did a basic test which I previously did before, I went to sleep with a fully charged phone, I left everything on: WIFI, mobile data network and sync on set my alarm clock and went to sleep (p.s I checked a few websites so battery actually went down to 98%)
8 hours later I woke up checked my phone to see what % it was left one, previously on stock ROM with same set up my phone would be on 65% due to the Android OS bug running high! This time it was on 91%, so that's less than 1% drain an hour! Happy or what!
I know some people might not say this was a actual battery test but to me it is and I can see a big difference, funny thing is the AOS was showin 35% in batt stats, which is strange!
Now as I write this at 1pm my phone has been on for 14hrs and I'm still at 75%, yes I know the first 8 hrs was in standbye, but I've had a lot of notifications come through from G+ this morning and I'm pretty happy with what I have got set up now, without compromise as well!
I will upload a screen shot later if any wants to see when my battery stats when its down to 1% etc
I hope his helps some people out there, but I wanted to keep it simple for some as I was once a n00b (might still be)

Then i just installed CM 7.1 with Rom Manager, not sure which kernel is it
