Possible Solution To "Vibrant Won't Mount" - Vibrant General

I don't know if this has been brought up before (search didn't find anything), so I thought I'd share. Both my son and I have a Vibrant. I have flashed just about everything out there (can't help myself ), but he has yet to take the plunge. Anyway, I wanted to pull some video he had shot during the New Year's Celebration, and couldn't get his Vibrant to mount. It would do the usual business about asking to mount and all that, but my laptop wouldn't recognize it. It would recognize mine just fine. I asked if he had ever hooked his phone up to his PC, and he said that he had, but hadn't had any luck connecting lately. He also mentioned that he had recently bought a new charger for it. On a hunch, I looked at his charging port, and yep, you guessed it, one of the usb tabs on the phone was all jacked up. (it was pushed all the way to the back of the slot, like there was a bad fit on the new charger??) Anyway, with a little coersion, I put the tab where it was supposed to go, and VOILA!! Connection problem gone! I realize that this will probably only help a few folks, but I figured it can't hurt...And no, I didn't think about getting a pic of it prior to the repair, sorry....Oh and sorry for the long post
Cheers!

Good observation I had the same thing happen on the other side My laptop's internal usb connection had a piece break off, and it took of investigating to figure out what actually happened

[q] advice hd2 wont connect to usb

hiya guys i recently bought a second hand hd2 after reading some reviews on how good it was so obviously i just had to start messing with it and coming from a htc wildfire was expecting things to be just as simple as root and install a rom wich after reading up went sweet as a nut took bot 30 mins total ......so heres the problem i was really impressed showed my phone off to every1 including my dad who was also impressed so bought 1 aswell (second hand so cant get a replacement as the phone is technically not broken) now for the last 4 or 5 days ive been trying to duplicate what ive done on my phone on his but cant get the damn thing recognized and before anyone says it lol ive tried everything i can fiind on the net about the issue ive tried diffrent usb ports on my pc wich is running win7 ive tried his pc also running win7 ....my laptop with winxp all usb ports from fresh install and another laptop running vista all with the appropriate programs wmdc and activesync for xp ......i have 7 usb cables diffrent makes but 3 are official htc including the original cable for hd2 (wich i used to flash my phone) and ive tried 2 of his including his original for hd2 ....reinstalled win6.5 using sd card method and still nothing apart from the fact it charges on every cable ive tried wich to me says that the usb port on the phone is fine it doesnt bring up the menu asking how i want to use the connection i.e charge activesync or mass storage (and ive got the option ticked to ask me....and ive tried deselcting fast connect) it just doesnt recognise the connection and windows doesnt respond at all to the phone being connected even in bootloader mode it stays on serial and doesnt change to usb..... everything radio, rom is the same now as when i did mine same cable but no connection ......i think that covers everything ive tried does any1 know off anything ive missed or know if theres a fix for this issue lmao sorry bout the essay just wanted to get accross that i think ive tried EVERYTHING thanks for taking the time to read
My guess,,, bent /broken/ missing pin in the phones USB socket, or connection fault in the associated wiring to the USB port, so data connection isn't being triggered but charging works because those two pins are fine.
Can try cleaning the USB port, a soft DRY toothbrush perhaps, give the port a close examination.
thanks for quick reply i did examine the port everything looked fine couldnt see anything bent in there a clean might help but looks ok to me thats the odd thing the phone looks new no damage to the port or phone and ive read about other people having the same issue but ive tried everything that has helped others with no success just wondering wether the phones a scrapper win6.5 definatly not a keeper lol
Lol ill take it off your hands before you "scrap" it. ...

If the USB is the only issue you would probably still get a reasonable price for it on ebay.
Sent From My Fingers To Your Face.....
i think that the phone in general probably gets bought for the multiple o.s .....i know thats why i got mine yea the phone has some impressive upsides but i should have read the downsides this phone seems to be a accident waiting to happen dodgy usb, dead touchscreens, dodgy or sticky power buttons and getting bricked through normal usuage .... the list seems endless from what ive read in last few days ....my hd2 seems to have gone fine but just wondering how long its gonna last im scared to use it now lmao
I wouldn't worry about that. People are always gonna post their horror stories but not many come here to say ,
"Everything's fine, touchscreen hasn't died yet..."
If it reassures you at all, I've had mine since launch, its been dropped, flashed numerous times, got soaked in the rain, smashed into a fridge and the only thing wrong with her is a small dent on the bezel by the screen. I'd say it's a pretty resiliant device for what is essentially a 4" piece of glass....
Sent From My Fingers To Your Face.....
lol yea that sounds like some hardcore usage ......and yea i suppose as im looking for an actual problem or rather an answer to a problem with the phone only natural im gunna find other peoples problems
I beleive like Sam said your data transfer pins are not working. Especialy sense you said it does not ask if you want ActiveSync or Disk drive.
And without working data tranfer pins you will not be able to flash Android. You can flas MAGLDR and cLK via SD card, but you can not flash CWM or use fastboot commands without a USB connection. Sorry friend, best thing to do is flash a good custom Windows Mobile ROM to your dad's HD2 or get the USB fixed.
Hey guys thanks for the advice looks like he's getting custom windows rom lol anything for speed and useability improvements any suggeations for a good custom rom to try as I'm new tink the hd2 and a fan of android not too sure on the windows side of things

No charge, no sync - loose MHL cable port.

Only had mine 3 weeks and its broken already. I have been using a desktop charger and have not been forcing it in at all, not once, I have always been very gentle inserting it it, anyway it no longer charges, it looks like the connectors have pushed themselves back so they are not flush anymore and thus no longer connecting to charge or sync.
Not happy about this at all, I had my desktop charger for my HD2 for 18 months with no problems at all, this suggest a very weak connector.
!!! BE CAREFUL !!!
Going to call in at Phones4you and see if they will swap it, I don't hold out much hope though.
Wow bad luck man, but really you don't need the F word to express your frustration.

was it an official desktop charger or 3rd party?
DO a factory reset using code *2767*3855#
(please not this will wipe everything including built in memory, so do backup before you proceed. Backup possible by moving content of internal memory to SD card by copy paste in file manager)
I had a problem when my phone stopped charging after I upgraded firmware, It would also launch Connected to computer screen when it wasnt . Thought its dead.
Did factory reset using this code and its working flawlessly ever since. Seems to be some kind of bug which happens out of nowhere as 2 people I know have experienced this after upgrading to KE2.

I was going to ask exactly the same thing...
I think the OP means that the micro usb receptacle has come away from the board and has been pushed back into the body of the phone. I hope this is not going to turn out to be a common problem as it's something that seemed plague to the Nokia N900 and it took ages for Nokia to acknowledge a design/production fault.
great advice, now it wont boot at all, just goes round in circles....
F**cked.....
anyone got any ideas?
Hi, the charger isnt really the issue, i haven't had any problems inserting the phone into the charger, ie no resistance which suggests to me it was week or loose and has gradually pushed it self back over the last 2 weeks since I have had the charger. If thats the case it would have done this with any charger or cable.
Just spoke to phones4you, they are going to exchange it for me, they didnt even grumble after I told them what happened which I thought was odd, heading off now to pick it up.
Will be interesting to see if your wifi is any better on the new phone stoolzo. Maybe you could let us know. Thanks.

remove and reinsert battery
i had this issue when running custom kernels. somehow doesnt happen with stock.
issue happens like this:
u go to bed while charging
u wake up and the phoneis off or very hot with battery and temperature warning
u reboot and it doesnt reboot, doesn't boot, just goes in circle battery display/reboot cause it doesnt seem to charge neither have enough power to boot.
removing battery + cable then putting both back = it boots again and charge normally

Yeah, did all the usual things, I have bricked phones before and always managed to turn them around but we have no CMR to flash anything from ROOT/SD so when it wouldn't boot after a factory reset I knew I was in trouble
The MHL port being loose was the tell tale sign of a fault as I hadn't misused it at all. When I compared it to my new phone I got today it was defo a little further back, just enough to prevent it connecting.
Good old phones4you, fault report to phone exchange in under an hour, impressive.
Just in case the charger had anything to do with this I am going to get rid, dont think it did but I don't want to risk it.

Phone stuck on USB/charging... very weird

Hey there. I have my Galaxy S II (GT-I9100) for about a month, and since a couple of days ago it has been behaving very weirdly about USB and charging.
First of all, the phone thinks it has USB connected at all times. When I go to the settings menu try to enable mass storage it says USB is already connected, even though it isn't!!!
Sometimes when I start the phone it goes to that USB Kies screen and says "connected", when absolutaly no cables are connected AT ALL!!!
When I turn the cell off, remove the battery and plug it back in, without turning the phone on, the recharging battery icon appears, but blinks with a drained battery icon with a yellow exclamation sign and a thermometer which I sincerely have no idea what that means.
It also takes ages to recognize the power charger or when I really connect the USB cable. And finally, when I take them off, it also takes a while to "perceive" they're off and remove the charging lightning from the battery icons.
PRETTY PLEASE, SOMEONE HELP ME OUT, as I don't have time to take the phone to service, and didn't really want to do that
Thanks!!!
This has also happened to me and loads of other SGS2 users! Although usually it only happens sporadically and not constantly. It seems that it's a bad soldering job or dust/dirt has gathered in the microUSB port. You might be able to fix it, if you're *really* careful.

Last night my phone wouldn't even start charging, so I decided to take matters into my own hands. With the smallest screwdriver I could find, I carefully 'lifted' the tiny PCB in the USB jack while blowing in at the same time. Sure enough, some sand particles fell out, and I haven't gotten carmode'd in nearly 13 hours now. Previously it would do it once every 15 minutes. So far so good, it seems.

Thanks for the help... but what is PCB? Is it the connector inside the "hole"?
Tried that and it stopped thinking USB was connected the whole time... on the other hand, it doesn't detect when I connect the USB cable

You can't talk on plural when you only point out one thread. And I've read that, but it isn't the same as my phone doesn't go in "car mode".
My phone's problem only resembled a problem JaX3RiR briefly mentioned in the middle of the thread.
I tried googling it before posting anything anywhere, but couldn't find anything useful.
Please don't try to look like a smartass like that and embarrass yourself. If you got nothing to add to the thread, it's best if you sit out of it. It's much more appreciated when helpful people like JaX3RiR post...
Hi,had the same problem, tried reflashing back to original firmware, but still had the same problem,,the only way i could boot the phone was through recovery mode,(reboot)Had to send phone back for possible repair??cut a long story short they sent me a new phone,,They said they couldnt repair the fault, something to do with the usb charging system,,So i would advise anyone with this specific problem,to send phone back, and get a replacement..hope you get it solved
Thanks mate, I sent mine today as well... I hope they act the same with me, as I'm afraid customer service around here always tries to incriminate the user not to use the warranty...

There is no reason to be angry, I'm just trying to help, and just wanted that we all post in one thread, so it would be easier to track later.
I just posted longest thread. Here is another one if it helps to justify:

I'm pretty sure you have the same problem. Sometimes Vlingo starts, sometimes phone thinks its charging, when trying to boot it shows battery image and won't boot, can boot only recovery and do restart from there.
Get of the high horse when people are trying to help you.
Are you sure you didn't connect USB cable upside down or bended USB port with the cable?
I have no idea what Vlingo is, and obviously I didn't connect the USB cable upside down. I don't think I bended the port with the cable since it still recognizes the cable for charging or booting and going directly into Kies mode, for example.
I am not on any high horse when people try to help me, as you could see my response towards the guys above. Your post wasn't sounding helpful at all, you were just sounding like "hey, you dumass noobie, don't open a new thread for yourself, check the forums first".
By the way, I also took a look at that thread you posted before posting mine, but I have no idea what is "car mode" on my phone...
Sorry if I sounded rough. I thought it is similar issue, so I posted link to longer thread. I had this issue myself.
Peace. Let us know what the service say .
This happened to me one week ago while on holiday....that temp indicator while charging plus the other stuff you mention....
Plus the phone went into flight mode and won't come out....
Got home and did a reset and phone now doesn't recognise sim card...
great phone but I'm a little disappointed

Hello,
Had the same problems aswell, only mine had a bunch of other problems aswell:
When I shut down my mobile it restarts itself and then shows a yellow exclamation mark with an tempgage. Only way to turn on my phone is to connect it with the charger, turn of my phone again, remove the charger and then the phone turned itself on again but without the temp gage.
My phone also thinks its charging when it is not, and when I am actually charging it, its not charging.
Also my PC does not recognize my phone so I am not able to update it.
I have also sent my phone for a repair, I will keep you guys posted.
greets from the netherlands
Yep, mine only got fixed by going into service. It got its mainboard warranty switched.
T- Mobile sent me a replacement phone
They seemed to know the symptoms when I explained what was happening
Same fault for me. Mainboard replaced, works fine now.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
How did you guys get it fixed? Did you have to ship the phone out somewhere? How long did you have to wait to get it back? What was the process?
Thanks.
Mine is going to be repaired in two weeks.
I was the 8th SGS2 since tuesday which came in the repair center.
The repair guy said it is a manifacturing fault.
The phone gets hots, and outside temperature is cold, so it makes moisture in the phone.
This cause the phones power management to get fu up (SGS2 has a small battery inside of it, and that gets fu up). Only fix is replace hardware, but 9 of 10 times Samsung gives the fault to the customer. They say it has water damage and can't be fixed in warrenty...
I'm going to write a huge article about it, and I hope it will get published by a lot of site's soon. Phones he admitted having the problem: SGS1, SGS2 and SGSN.
I charged my GS2 2x by USB and it's discharged faster than by the sector
The USB power isn't enough for charge up the GS2 correctly
Are you guys suffering from rapid battery discharging, i have all of the above symptons but my battery drains within hours...I`ve even bought a brand new battery off ebay that is exacly the same issues... I`d like to send it back to O2 but i`ve rooted and flashed custom firmware...

recover files with no power?

Ok so i have a crazy question. Im sure its a lost cause but Ill ask anyways. I have a G2 that i used a few years ago and one day it just turned off and never would turn back on. I opened it and installed a new battery if that was the issue, no luck. Left it on chargers for a week, no luck. Im not sure if it just shorted out or what. BUT my question is this. That was the phone i had when me and my wife first met, so theres pictures still on the phones storage. Is there any possible way to access that without the phone getting power? No its not detected by the PC or anything but is it possible to find the chip from the phone that holds the storage and in some way solder that to a new component and get the files? Like i said i know its a long shot, but honestly I dont care if they phone gets destroyed, i would love to recover those photos. If anyone has ANY ideas from the strange to the downright bat**** crazy feel free to let me know.
Thank you!!

LG randomly overheating and won't stay on - No previous heat issues

Hi, I have a LG K20 Plus. I currently can't turn the phone on, so I don't have much software information to give you. The phone was bought at T-Mobile (Metro by T-Mobile) and I had a SafeLink sim card and a 16 gb micro sd card inserted when the issue started. I have since removed both. It says Qualcomm snapdragon on the screen when it starts. It was also rooted and the bootloader is unlocked.
I broke the screen on my phone and I decided to do the repair myself. I have done about 7 or 8 screen replacements and I actually did this phone a year ago with no issues, so I felt I could manage this one as well. I bought an entire display (from ebay) and switched it out with no problems. Initially it worked great! I used it for a few days before realizing that I had no sound. I opened it back up and noticed the loud speaker had fallen out. I found it, put it back in, reassembled it as I normally do and turned it on.
NOTE: when I was reassembling it the second time, I actually tried to put a screw in a hole that wasn't a screw hole. I used a light to normal amount of pressure but I didn't force it. I think it's the hole where the moisture detector is. Picture #1
I turned it on and right after the logo screen I got a message that said "High temperature detected Powering off for your safety" and it immediately shut off. The phone does appear to charge normally but it won't stay on. I did a factory reset (I'm not sure if it's still rooted but the bootloader is still unlocked). I also switched back to the old (broken) display just to check if that would work. I couldn't see any difference in the shielding but I switched them just to be sure. I bought a new battery and installed it. I took a q-tip and 95% Isopropyl Alcohol and cleaned pretty much the entire motherboard, paying special attention to the battery connections. After each one of these things, I tried to start it with the same error message immediately upon start up.
NOTE: At no point has the phone every physically felt hot or even warm. I don't think it's on long enough for it to get hot. But something is wrong and I have no idea what it is. I, literally, took the phone apart, put in the speaker and put it back together in less than 5 minutes. Could it be I just bumped something and knocked it loose?
I searched for any information I could find both here and with google but there is next to no information on the LG K20 Plus. I did find some information on the LG V20 that had overheating issues, and that has been all the luck I've had. I watched several videos and it seems the solution is to apply thermal paste. But my phone doesn't have any evidence that thermal paste was ever on it. I went and bought some but I have no idea where exactly to put it or even if it's needed. Most videos showed people using some kind of aluminum foil but I'm not sure if that is safe. I have several old phone laying around and I managed to get some of the silver tape and a copper square thing but, again, my phone did not have these things to begin with. I don't want to start adding things only to make it worse.
There is a slight difference of the tape that is on my phone now (the display I just bought) as compared to the old one (broken display). Picture #2 Again, I have no idea if that means anything but I thought it worth mentioning. Picture #3 is how it looks now as if I were going to put it back together. Picture #4 is the part (don't know name) where the videos show to apply the thermal paste and the shielding.
I'm really at a loss as to what to do next and I can't really afford to take it in to have it repaired before next month. If anybody has any insight or answers as to what happened, I'd be very grateful for your help. I'm sorry for the long post. I just wanted to tell you everything I have done in detail. Thank you
If you're using Kernel Auditor or any other kernel adjustment simply reset to default and use only ondemand or interactive. There's also options for the thermal portion of the kernel, don't mess with those. If VCC or another thermal option was checked off turn it back on. Putting the GPS to the moderate setting (the one below high accuracy) will keep the temps down as well. Are you using a custom ROM? If you're on Discord you can feel free to message me SCOPE★ BRΞΛD #8460 . I am only offering that so we can get this resolved quickly for you, just copy and paste since I use special characters.
Omgosh, thank you so much for taking the time to respond! Although I'm sure everything you are saying is very smart, I have absolutely no idea what you're saying. I'll do my best to try and answer you. I don't know what SCOPE is or how to send a message there. I don't think I'm using any thing for the "kernal". Also, I don't know what VCC or Discord is. As far as turning off setting for GPS or any other app, the phone will not stay on. I get about 1 sec after the logo when it boots up, then the error message about overheating and it immediately shuts off. I did a factory reset so everything should be good to go as far as apps. I don't think I'm using a custom ROM. The only thing I did was install TWRP, unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone a year ago but nothing since then. As I stated earlier, this happened right after I did a display repair. Is there something on the MOBO that can get bumped that will make your phone get hot or send a overheating error. My phone doesn't show any sign that there was ever thermal paste on it prior but should I add some now. Will that help?
Update... Now the phone does not power on at all. When I plug it in to charge it I get an error that says "Device temperature is too high or low. Please move to another place to charge. Hey, I just wanted to say sorry this happened to you. The same thing happened to me. My LG K20 Plus, no matter what button combinations I push and for how long I hold them, will not turn on or go into download mode. Plugging it in to a charger or PC does nothing either. Before it got to this state, I got the infamous green screen of death/Demigod crash handler (google this--it's a known issue with some models of LG phones and it happens when they overheat). It's definitely a hardware/build issue, and especially since this issue keeps the phone from turning on or connecting to a computer, I don't see a workable fix short of buying a new phone, unfortunately. Again, I'm in the same boat so I'm not happy about it either. I would say XDA is by far the best site to find a fix to this sort of problem, so if no one here has any suggestions on how to fix it, I think you (we) may be out of luck.
Thank you for letting me know. I'm not sure of some of what you said but I did catch the bottom line. Basically, just hold onto the phone until someone here comes up with a fix or workaround? I have a question for you. Did your problem start after you did some kind of repair? I'm wondering if I bumped something on the mobo to make it give a false overheating error. Do you happen to know where that sensor might be located? Sorry you are having problems to. It really stinks when your phone breaks and no matter how much time and energy you put it to figuring out the problem to fix it, there just isn't any good answers out there. I wish you lots of luck and if you figure anything out, please update here so I can try it too.
You need a whole new phone.
That or you're gonna have to replace the hardware
