Was originally flashing back to DI18 because I didn't quite like DK28 (which was flashed successfully on Sunday via Odin)
This is what I've tried:
1). Different USB slots
2). Flashing just SPH-D700-DI18-8Gb-REL.tar.md5
2.5) Flashing SPH-D700-DI18-8Gb-REL.tar.md5 + victory_8G_100528.pit (like in the wiki)
3). Getting rid of the .md5 at the end and trying to flash it
4). Flashing back to DK28
5). Using Odin 1.3, 1.61, AND 1.7
I'm completely lost. Even tried rebooting and still will NOT work. What am I missing? And Yes I put the .tar in the PDA section, not phone.
YES I've installed drivers as well.
YES I've only checked Auto Reboot.

Have you attempted it on another computer? Also taking the battery out for awhile. Try to just flash something small, maybe dk28 modem and see if you can get that to work. Can you still get in recovery? If so flash noobnl's dk28.zip

You didn't swapping mention the USB cable. Are you using the stock USB cable? If so, it's crap. Yes, sometimes it will work...But it's not reliable.

Did you try redownloading your files? Maybe corrupt data... it's happened to me where I had to redownload the files I needed along with Odin. Just asking cause I didn't see you list it.

dont give up
I had the same problem as you and I litterally switched my computer + usb cable and was able to solve. Make sure you are using 1.6 cause i see you are using a bunch of different ones. If you click on the word odin under steps it will give you a reliable odin and pit http://briefmobile.com/how-to-update-sprint-epic-4g-to-android-2-2. I know its 2.2 dont listen to instructions. Use the files from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032 di18 worked for me. Although .md5 shoule work .tar is more reliable. I know you did all this already but i find if you carefully retrace your steps you will use find the source of you problem. Also DONT FORGET TO RUN ODIN AS ADMIN. Dont give up on the one setttings on first try as it took me multiple runs to completely flash mine and lastly make sure the only thing you have checked is autoreset

SGS4 won't boot....

Hi guys,
My SGS4 won't boot anymore. At all.
I can (with difficulty) access my custom recovery menu (TWRP 2.5.1) and the download menu.
But whatever I'm trying to flash using ODIN from download menu, it fails! Whether it's the current ROM, official UK BTU ROM, stock recovery etc... So can't use Odin.
Can't put anything on the device either as I can't boot. When I use the "mount USB" from the TWRP menu, my PC doesn't recognize the phone so I can't put any ZIP on the phone that I could install from TWRP.
This happened when I used Triangle Away to reset the counter from 1 to 0....
I'm afraid my phone is bricked (although it's a temp phone and will be getting mine in 2 days), but I wanted to be sure that I didn't forget to do anything....
ANy ideas how to make this work pls?
thnx

where odin failed exactly?
did you try changing usb port? kies totally disabled? original usb cable?
thnx for your help.
- Kies is definitely not running, stopped all services and processes
- Using samsung USB cable
- Tried on several USB ports of my PC
- Using Odin 3.4

one more thing, remove battery for a couple of minutes, then try with odin 1.85
All of these were really good ideas, but I'm afraid none of them work!
Same error message, it seems it can't write on the damn phone. I tried to reflash TWRP, the green bar went further but at the end, same thing, fails.

i dont know if flashing pit file along with the firmware will work
yeah that's exactly what I was thinking, after clickingon your "unroot, back to stock" link in your signature...
So can I flash the firmware + Pit at the same time or should I flash pit first and then the ROM?

pit file is flashed with the firmware. choose the right pit for your device! re-partition will be checked automatically when you select the pit file.
still doesn't work unfortunately, don't know what 's happening....
I flashed PIT file alone, it worked fine.
Tried to install anything else, it fails again, all the time...

If you haw acess t dawnload mod you are nhot bricked pleas go and try other pc
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
First, thanks for the info that if I can access the download mode, then the phone is not bricked, I didn't know that, so thanks.
And yes, you were both right, I plugged my phone into my laptop and it worked! THANK YOU.
So the next question is: What could be the issue on my PC? It's not Kies cause it's not installed, and I already uninstalled and reinstalled the Samsung Drivers....
thnx
this is surely NOT a mobile issue if you can enter into download mode.
i had the exact issue a month ago when i had note2.
if you can't try it on another pc, try :
1) uninstall skies completely
2) unisnstall usb drivers
3) reboot the pc
4) connect your s4 in download mode to your pc.
5) let your pc install freah usb drivers
6) start odin and flash
7) if still you get the same error download a different verison of the official rom and try flashing.
i followed the above procedure couple of times and was finally able to install the rom. the issue is either with the drivers or the rom.

expirienced exactly same situation with i9300. Able to get to recovery but failed to flash. Tryed everything on PC and on the phone itself. You have to try different odin versions, but in my case it was NAND failure. If you failed to flash PIT your phone is for sure bricked. Sorry.
Got mainboard replacement in my case.
Have you tried putting a rom on the sdcard with an adapter.. And then put it in the phone and flash the zip from recovery?

no but good idea. Actually all the flashing work now, but I still can't boot into the phone! This is madness...
before I couldn't flash anything. Now, I flashed the original BTU ROM, Stock recovery but can't boot into recovery anymore, can't boot into the OS, the only thing that works is the download mode.
Will try to get the phone to a repair thing. I'm gonna try with samsung repair centre first cause the right ROM is installed (original) and the counter is at zero so should be fine with warranty.

good luck at least i just thought it would work by doing it in recovery but yeah... warranty is better.. if not.. then keep trying if they wont replace it
ok I FINALLY could access the stock recovery, did a full wipe and everything is back in order now, works perfectly.
THANKS to all!

Only will boot into downloading mode

I've got a sprint galaxy s4, was running 4.2.2 and I had added the hotspot mod by overwriting some files to make that happen. I was attempting to go back to stock in order to update to 4.3 via an Odin3 flash and something happened. I can only boot into the download mode, I can't get into recovery mode at all. If I try to get into recovery, I get the message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
Kies will not recognize my phone. When I plug it into my computer via usb, I hear a notification. Kies attempts to connect, but never does successfully. I have no way of getting my serial number as I can't boot it and it's not listed under the battery cover. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers with no success. I have tried to uninstall Kies completely and flash via Odin3 but get a failure below

I hope I've provided info on what I have tried. I am not an expert by any means, but would really appreciate any help. At this point I'm looking to just get back to stock and have a usable phone. I don't care about losing any info and am willing to wipe/flash whatever I can. Thank you for any input! I'm hoping to not have to take this to the sprint store
You just have to odin the stock mf9 tar again. I would try a different version of odin, a different usb port, or a different usb cable. Odin will fix your problem, don't use kies. I used odin 3 version 3.07 but I've also had a lot of success with odin 3 ver 1.85 that is included when you download cf autoroot. Also, make sure you are running odin as administrator.

i would just use the CF-autoroot odin......this has saved my ass twice !!! seems to be the " mirical odin " program

[HELP] Bricked phone, now Odin and Kies rejecting firmware reset

Last night I bricked my phone, trying to flash the stock modem (NAE) on mobile Odin. As of right now, it does not boot, simply being stuck at the SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 screen. It will not boot into recovery, instead rebooting to the same screen once more. Kies will not see the connection, and I have reinstalled it, the drivers, etc.
Odin does the same thing, but sees the connection. All I get is this after trying to flash the firmware (both with Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time on and off)

Were you on NG2 perhaps? If so, you cannot go back to NAE and that would explain the Odin failure.
Go to www.sammobile.com and download the NG2.tar and give that a try.
If only I had thought of that (which I couldn't have)! Thanks, this worked. I was on the NC6 version of the ROM, and have downloaded/installed this. It works like a charm except one thing; the data seems to either not be working, or extremely slow at times. That, and the messaging does not appear to work. Wifi is the same way at times.

If you were on NC6 you have a triband model (720T) and need NG5.tar.

[Q] AT&T Galaxy S4 Soft bricked phone-can't ODIN restore

I have been searching threads for 6 hours, but haven't found anything conclusive.
I rooted my phone a while back, but today I decided to install a new custom ROM. I backed up the ROM to my external SD and installed the new one through safestrap. However, when I tried to reboot, I just got stuck on a screen that says samsung and has an open lock.
I am able to get into download mode, but not into recovery. After I boot into download mode, it says write protection:enabled (not sure that is normal, but I thought I would mention it). I open up Odin and the drivers seem to load fine. I have tried a a few versions of ODIN and two different Stock ROMs, but it fails every time. On my phone, after it fails, I get a message that says SW Rev. Check Fail: fused 2, binary: 1.
In ODIN, I get the following:

The problem is you're trying to flash mdl firmware and you're not on that version. It looks like you're on mf3. There is no Odin flashable mf3 firmware so I'd suggest you flash the nb1 tar file. See the general forum for the file. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50912149

[Q] UNRoot SPH-L720

Good morning all.
I need to unroot (or just put stock firmware back on my device). I have Cyanogen 11, and i need to swap phone numbers on my phone. The code Sprint wants me to enter does not work with Cyanogen mod so i need to put stock firmware back on the device so sprint can have me put in the codes they need to change the phones telephone number.
Long story short, i have done a lot of research on Google and on here, and i am running into a problem.
First i am using the original (actually i have tried three different ORIGINAL (white) Samsung) USB Cable, i have tried several different USB ports.
I've have downloaded my drivers (actually had them from when i rooted in the first place), i have odin (several different versions, tried them all same result), and stock firmware .tar.md5.
The problem is after i click START in odin, it does its thing for like 10 seconds, then reports a FAIL, this is what Odin reports (this report is from using an Odin v3.185, i have tried v3.07 and 3.09 as well, same end result, but the oden report is slightly different, as it checks the MD5 in the other versions when you enter the file into Odin, vs checking the MD5 when you hit start):

And on the PHONE itself, i get a sliver of the progress bar, and in the upper top left some red text that's very difficult to read, but it says something like:
START [ZZ4.1440]
SV REV. CHECK FAIL : found : 4 . Binary : 1
It says all that in red... i have a suspicion THAT is the problem (my phone) and not Odin.
Any help on this would be appreciated, as this is a WORK phone that i need to get the new number ported to before i give it back to my work! LOL
Thanks in advance.
(After previewing my post in the forum.... WOW that's an OLD signature! LOL please disregard the sig info!)
You're trying to Odin an outdated tar. Go to www.sammobile.com and download the NG2.tar.
Thank You! That worked.
I was under the impression that i had to go back to an older version, then update to the latest version. <Shrug>
Anyhow, the first flash went to about 97,98%, then failed. I cleared everything i was doing on the computer (I was running 6 instances of an MMO i play at the same time on the one computer, plus some other stuff that was taxing my computer), RE-Flashed in ODIN, successful Flash. First boot hung at yellow sprint screen. I Pulled the battery, cleared cache, reset (in recovery), and it was a Success! So again, thank you kindly, i knew i just needed a nudge in the right direction. =)
CASE CLOSED. Heh.
