???
you have to use auto-detect for setcpu to detect your availble clock speeds
on-demand is BROKEN
performance will drain your battery abnormally
running at 100 min / whatever max on conservative is the most stable option for this device at the current time
Leave the advanced settings alone also?

not to contradict, but you dont have to use it, you can use the setCPU.txt file and i recommend it
here is the one i use currently with the D02 1250LV kernel, it is nothing more than a simple text file which tells the setCPU app what are valid steppings/scaling so it cannot auto-detect incorrectly as it often does
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12311939/setcpu.txt
all you have to do is edit it to the steps that match the kernel you load and drop it in the root of the sd card, then go into setCPU, hit softmenu to go to device selection, scroll down and choose custom or manual...i forget what its called...then scroll down to the bottom and tell it to use the setcpu.txt file option and restart....done, no more problems at boot with setCPU
I only use performance when benchmarking. I use on-demand day to day. Set to 1250 max 100 min. I actually read the entire setCPU dev page, I suggest you do also, keeping in mind the limitations of the kernel you choose to load. I do not use on-demand scaling. I do not use profiles either. I do however, after testing my own device, use "set at boot". Two things on that. 1. setCPU now has a safe mode feature to get out of a problem and 2. I also use the setcpu.txt option instead of auto-detect which is hit or miss. Using the setcpu.txt file method (be sure to go to device selection and choose the bottom custom option) setCPU cannot accidentally set itself to the wrong frequency, it gets it's allowed steppings from the file you create.
if you read the setCPU dev page you (not directed at you jt ) will learn all of this and also about the advanced settings....but they work fine as they are for my device/kernel/usage

Im wondering what would happen if you didnt match the increments in your txt file to the kernels native ones?
Lol, I only speak of what I know to be true you guys have far more knowledge but I tested this on my own device and also used it on the ally I had so I know its good

Id say probably either fc or nothing. Either it would try to hit something it cant and fc or it would discard the step, but then the large jump sau from 200 to 600 skipping 400 may cause an issue

Well, if I can keep mine running stable for a couple of days, with no "permasleeps" then I will give start on boot a try. So far I'm having excellent luck with 1100 max 100 min with conservative. Set to auto, it brought the right figures up immediately. So far the thing is really running great with the 1100 LV kernal and the settings I mentioned above. I'm sure my quadrant will be lower than 1200, but for some reason the 1200 kernal was only stable when I was placing load on the device, actually using it. When it was idle the screen would "permasleep". Very odd. Stress testing on the 1200 LV kernal threw no errors, but I still had idle issues.

Sorry if it is a noob question but
I have the jt's voodoo kernel and just restored my setcpu from the titanium back up...
the max that it gives me is only 1000000....
I thought It should change to 1200000
how can I change it?
if not what should I do to OC this bad boy?
btw I Used the recommended speed...
Thanks

Download the 1200 w/ boot animation. This happened to me last night when updating my wife's fascinate. I first downloaded the one without boot animation, which was fine, but only would clock to 1000 and was getting the battery not connected error. So I flashed the 1200 w/boot animation and fixed everything.

You changed speeds so you need to redetect your speed. Either do that or uninstall the app and reinstall it.

I am using cm 6.1 nightly and would like to know how to tune my mobile for long battery life. Wish setcpu could look into my usage and suggest presets for long battery life or performance.
my main is: Min: 245, Max: 710
Screen off: Min: 245, Max: 352
even without the screen off profiles or anything i still get 1-2 days + depending on my usage, and since i like to play with my phone and abuse the wifi/3g it lasts like a day anyway.
With screen on, max 633, min 480. create a profile so when screen is off, max 352 & min 160.
Mine is atm at 10% battery and it's been on for 51h & 30m and in that time it's been awake for 9h & 38m.
When i'm home, wifi is always on.
Gps is only on when needed, and so is bluetooth.
A suggestion for setcpu, it can collect the settings from users and provide the average as an option. This will really help new users. Integration with cm parts will be kickass.

kept "ondemand".
By having different profiles, we end up changing the CPU frequency limits frequently. Could this harm the CPU? This question was asked elsewhere but am not able to track it (iirc, it was not answered)
I think it will harm CPU. i have been using few profiles for a week. Yesterday it froze for 6 times. . So yeah....

No it does not harm the cpu.
think of other cpu's like intel or amd, they also can be throttled either through the hardware or software, to lower power consumption when not used, and visa versa.
I just use the main profile, the phone tends to freeze when switching profiles so i removed all the ones i had.
Running 160-672mhz. Running fine and doesn't freeze anymore.
When i use a profile for screen off, it sometimes takes a second or two to switch cpu speeds. It's kind of annoying as if i don't wait for it to change to the main speed, it may freeze.
Anyone else experiencing this ?
mods if this is the wrong place for this post please move accordingly.
I used to run setcpu on my desire and could set the min value to 245 and watch it stabilise at that. Now when I set the same parameters on my dhd, watching the CPU values I see it fluctuating between the min value of 245 and the max value every couple of seconds and it never seems to stabilise.
I have scaling set to on demand, whereas on the desire I used smartass. This doesn't seem to be an option in my dhd but as far as I can see this is the only difference.
Any ideas on why the fluctuation? This occurs even after killing all tasks.
Did you disable perflock?
sent from my brain using telepathy
Yep, made no difference. I'm curious to know why there is no smartass option as this is what worked best with my desire?
Using leedroid rom BTW if that has any bearing on things?
do you use a custom kernel?
Ah, that's one thing I haven't done ... any thoughts on which to use?
I have tried the buzz uv with Leedroid but it doesn't want to know!
hey I have the same problem...
I use Leedroid rom and the kernel to max 1,22 Ghz and the smartass setting...
SetCpu shifts between min and max cpu settings ??

Yep, every few seconds it changes from min to max!
I have tried also flashing the kernel without Leedroid installed and still no joy. Am I right in thinking I should be able to update the kernel simply by choosing 'install rom from sd card' in rom manager?
... or am I doing something wrong?
PS - yes I have root and S-OFF
hello everyone
i have a quick question
is it true i shouldn't use setvsel with CM7?because i just read that in the FAQ thread for CM7 here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798
and i need setvsel because i use it to undervolting and also i don't to overclock my cpu to 1Ghz since 800mhz can handle all the games i play and im getting 1900-2100 score in quadrant on stock cpu speed
and if i can't use it or shouldn't what program should i use ??since cpu settings in cm settings doesn't include undervolting
(although i've been use it on CM7 rom for 3 days now and i didn't have any trouble)
thanx in advance
appreciate your help guys
Hi there,
CM7 RC0 has the CPU clock speeds & Vsel in the bootmenu where you can overclock, undervolt, change the governor etc.
If you reboot your phone & go into the bootmenu when the blue led comes on then you can access the overclock menu.
There's more info in Quarx's thread in the dev forum

I used it in froyo but since flashing CM7 RC0 I only use the bootmenu for CPU settings.

I used the same settings that peetr_ used in the post I've linked to above. It uses the smartass governor.
It appears that there's different settings depending upon which governor is selected:
eg; for the smartass governor then in the overclock settings list the settings that start with _smt are relevant,
interactive governor _int,
ondemand governor _ond, etc.
Think that's how it works

No problem pleased I could help
I left the bootmenu cpu frequencies as to what they were but undervolted them slightly.
300/22, 600/34, 1000/54 - I tried many settings using setvsel when running froyo so I know these work fine for me.
As for the other settings I just used those that peetr_ posted for the smartass governor & it seems to run nicely. Haven't had any issues yet

btw...when i used the values in the post you gave me the phone was running without any issues but if you open setvsel and looked at the cpu it keeps changing from 300 to 1000 even if you are not doing anything but if you used the ondemand scale governor you will notice that if you are not doing anything the value stays 300mhz so im not sure that smartass is a good governor after all...or maybe its just me
anyways i think i will keep the settings like this:

also change the other values in menu like this(i think you must change them according to the values you gave your cpu in the 3 vsels):

smt_max:80(although i suspect this one should be 100 but since the user in the thread you gave kept it 80 im keeping it 80 )

smt_up_min:1000000
smt__wakeup:1000000
smt_ramp:300000

i don't know...really..i can't seem to relate what are the values for with the available governors
my only problem with smartass governor that even if im not using the cpu the values keep changing between 300mhz-1000ghz but when im using on demand if im not doing anything with the phone the cpu stays at 300mhz but when i start using the phone(moving the screen up and down for example)the values changes to 1000ghz and when i stop the values goes back to 300mhz that's why im using on demand...but again it might be just my cpu
looks like it requires to dig more in the differences between each governor
anyway i read in the latest post in CM7 DEV thread that some people is actually using setvsel so i opened my boot menu, and went to overclock, selected set default, reboted, and installed setvsel and applied these values:
20/300
33/600
47/800
up_therhold:75
oh and btw...how's your battery life ?

Yes I've got CM7 RC0 & using the bootmenu overclock.
There's many values in the menu as it depends upon which governor you have set it to so only those values relevant to that governor will be used.
For instance on Smartass governor - the values starting with _smt will apply
Can someone help me with the proper way to overclock the miui rom? I have dalingrins latest kernal, SETCPU, and nook tweaks all installed.
I have my steps set in nook tweaks and it set to set on boot. Also have setcpu set to ondemand gov. Should setcpu be also set on boot?
What I want is 375 min, 1100 max, and ondemand governor. What's the proper way to achieve this? Is setCPU even necessary?
Sent from my NookColor using XDA Premium App
This depends on MIUI's build.
If it's depending on the latest builds with dalgirins kernal and it recogonizes the 1100 and 1200 steps in it's settings, then you can set ondemand and 1100 and set on boot.
If it's not based on the integrated kernal, which you can tell the settings will only go to 925, then you need to install dalgrins kernal and use setcpu, allow root. Set it on boot. Max the setting at 1100, and set the governor on demand. profile it as you like.
WIth Dalgrin's mod... download 1.4.3 nook tweaks.. that is all you need period.
you can test what the highest voltage you can get to without UV. So try 1300 in Nook tweaks and leave the voltage alone. (DO NOT SET ON BOOT) until you have run through nenamarks back to back multiple times and quadrants back to back multiple times without random reboots or freezes.
In CM Mod Settings, Change the governer to conservative, that is your best bet to oc as it is built for solid state memory, such as memory cards (which is all cell phones.)
That is all you need... the rest is just trial and error because all chips are different period.
Then when everything is kewl, then start undervolting.... from the bottom clock speeds and up

is setcpu > then nook color tweaks?
In my experience on phones, setcpu does drain battery a little more than other apps.....

SetCPU is to set the actual OC and governor of the processor. Nook Tweaks simply changes the steppings that setCPU sees and allows for UV/OV.
