[Q] A7 system settings - A7 General

Running elocitymod 1.0c. Installed 1.0c without updating with Stream's update first.
I don't have an option for system settings in the settings menu. Am I the only one with this problem?
Not sure if I'm calling it the right thing. On my modded Hero with CM6.1, its cyanogen settings. Looking to add things like battery state to the lock screen (and other things like that).

That menu is custom to the Cyanogen/other ROMs, and you won't find it here. It's an extra menu added since the ROM is built from source. You may be able to find similar notification type hacks (battery percentage) in an updated version of spare parts, however. I have thought about trying metamorph also. Proceed at your own risk, im not sure the effects of doing so however.

Thanks for the response, DroidxRage.
Another question: I'm using 'Sense Analog Small Black' widget to show basic system info on my home screen. It's only reporting 1.01gb of internal system memory (169mb system, and 1.55gb SD - its only a 2gb SD). I know I don't have 3gb of stuff installed/downloaded on this thing. I have no media installed, and I've only used it for a few hours.
The system specs state it has 4gb of internal memory. Where did the other 3 go? Anybody else noticed this?
Thanks in advance.

Improving performance by removing virtual keyboard

My biggest problem with G1 is not having enough ram. While checking what sits in my ram with MemoryUsage app I noticed virtual keyboard. Since I almost never used it, I killed it. This caused home to reload, but I believe that keyboard has not been loaded instantly.
But after some time, I could see it there again hogging my precious 9MB. Since my phone has usually only like 15MB ram free, this was quite annoying.
After doing some research and BACKUP, since I am rooted I decided to rename the application to see if it will work. The app in question is LatinIME.apk. I renamed it to LatinIME.apkBkp. While I have been there, I did the same thing with LatinImeTutorial.apk. Both files are located in /system/app.
You have to remount it writable first, search this forum for how to do it.
After renaming that file (and maybe killing the app, don't remember exactly) my phone tried to reload home. It failed to do so, force closed and then tried again, resulting in infinite loop.
I rebooted the phone and it worked well, starting normally. Now I have more ram and performance of my phone improved a bit. My free ram stays a bit higher and apps are not so often removed from it.
Overall I am happy about the result and I am looking for more unnecessary stuff to remove.
I am on CyanogenMod 4 btw., so there might be different keyboard apps on other roms.
I have not found anyone mentioning this here, only some tutorials how to change default keyboard, so hopefully someone will find this useful.
If you have any suggestion how to sqeeze even more ram from my G1, bring them on please. (I know of swap, compcache, 10mb hack and keeping low number of apps)

Unused RAM is wasted RAM. The system will kill applications when more memory is needed. Don't worry about it.
And time for you to upgrade to CM6, don't you think?

Idiocy runs rampant at Dream forums, huh? Blame the stupid Advanced Task killer dev for getting all these idiots believing killing apps actually serves a purpose...
Anyway, if the OP is concerned about memory usage and bloat, I very much doubt CM6 is a step in the right direction. Maybe the latest CM 5 is a better option.

Yep, I am very well aware how does it work, but killing the app and loading the other one uses CPU cycles and makes system slow. Especially if it happens all the time as it does on my phone. This is actually the biggest source of laggines imho.
Plus, I am pretty sure, that system apps are not unloaded (some of them at least) or they are unloaded as a last resort. Which was also the case here. I could see other apps being killed (which I did not wanted to be killed) while unused virtual keyboard was happily sitting there.
For the record, I do not use task killer of any sort, does not make significant difference for me and occupies more ram than it saves. So please save that 'idiot' for someone else.
I do not plan to switch to CM5 or CM6, because those need even more ram as CM4 does. Afaik, those roms use hw graphics support which prohibits 10mb hack. I definitely keep 10mb hack on my phone. Did a lot of good to it's speed.
Okay so what setup are you using?
I have tryed every which rom out there since i got into it and i usually only use my phone for browsing youtube music and normal phone stuff and am find these new firmwares to be getting sluggish. Basically i want a lightning quick basic build. I am interested in what exactly you are using.

I am using last version of CyanogenMod from 4 series. That is Android 1.6 based.
I have apps2sd, 10mb hack and compcache enabled. No swap. Was not working for me. I removed all the apps that stay in memory like all widgets etc. The only things that is running in my memory permanently are: SeePU (to monitor my phone), JuiceDefender (to save battery), Battery Left widget and Astrid.
I set my phone to keep Home app in memory all the time, removed all the unnecessary effects in Spare Parts and removed virtual keyboard.
With this setup, my phone performs quite ok. Not as snappy as I would want it to be, but acceptable.
Hope it helps.
I have been using Super-D 1.9.3 with 10mb hack. Removed VPN, VoiceDialer, GenieWidget and some other misc things. Latest ADW instead of Launcher.apk, MusicMod 1.5 instead of stock music, latest 1.6 Phone.apk from Wysie. I also themed my lockscreen and Powertop widget. I has been about 4 months since I flashed it and it hasn't slowed down much at all (and I rarely reboot it). Not a singel FC! Battery lasts me thru the day (I have facebook, twitter and Gmail updating themselves). All in all, its one of the best set-ups I've used. I strongly suggest trying out earlier Super-D roms if you're looking for reliable daily driver (anything before 1.11 should be quite good, 1.11 is when it all went downhill)
Good luck.

You have options.
-Remove apps2sd and use the mtd patch method. That way you cut out the slowest link on the phone: the memory card. With the MTD hack, you can get maybe 150 megs or more of internal space for apps on a donut rom.
-Use the latest version of setcpu since it doesn't stay in memory. You can try an overclock, it will help but shorten battery life some. Maybe 576 or 595 would be enough of an overclock to make it feel faster yet not drain battery like crazy.
-Keep CC on and lock home in memory
-remove the battery widget lol.
=Delete juicedefender and just use the power control widget.
-I usually remove apps that tend to launch on their own, such as the genie widget or the voice search, as well the the VK since I never use those. It's easy enough to write a script or remove them by hand from the terminal. for example, to remove the VK, open terminal and type
Code:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
rm -f /system/app/LatinIME.apk
-reboot your phone often, and try clearing your cache using cachemate or similar

Need help setting up Android

I'm still trying to get used to the NAND DesireHD build and coming from NRG's ROMs this Android gig is something different. I use my phone primarily for business and personal needs (I'm not a gamer) and got rather used to using CHT and having information on my main screen. However, I'm noticing that Android works differently with applications and some things are confusing me. Maybe y'all can get me pointed in the right direction on these general questions and needs.
1) How do we turn off the damned unlocker screen? I'm tired of having to swipe every time I turn the phone on.
2) Is there an Android equivalent of the WM "Today" screen? I want to see my stuff at a glance instead of going to the calendar.
3) Where did my running program(s) go? Isn't there some sort of task switcher that I can get to without having to go back to my home screen, tap on the applications button and start the application again?
4) While I'm on the subject of running apps, is there any sort of utility that will enable me to go back to the previous screen, or jump to home via me an icon at the top of the screen or a gesture? I don't want to have to constantly hit the hard buttons, it's just not intuitive.
5) Isn't there an easier way to find applications than looking for them via the handset?
6) Can someone recommend an 'install to sd card' application to preserve the precious internal memory on Euro model HD2's?
That's it for now. I'm just trying to get Droid running more or less the way I'm used to it on WM and with all the apps and widgets, most of which seem to be crap, beta or of questionable value, I'm looking to those with experience.

[Q] Super Froyo by [email protected] on rooted G1

My apologies if my thread manners are off. Please feel free to move this post to the appropriate spot (and please reply telling me what the general rules are) if I'm posting this in the wrong place. I'm a relative noob when it comes to flashing ROMs, though I have tried about 12 in the past few weeks after I finally rooted my G1. Thus, I think XDA won't let me respond in the specific Rom forum because I haven't written enough posts (this is my first) or something.
Anyway, I have a few questions about this ROM and its settings after flashing it on my G1 last night. For clarity & redundancy, I am running "SUPERFROYO V8.4 Update 11/01/10." I downloaded and installed it last night (Sunday, April 10th, 2011- in the event there is a newer one available after I post this)
I have not installed the battery saver yet, though I plan on doing so once I figure out the answer to my more pressing question:
QUESTION SETUP:
I know the main issue that plagues the G1 is its ridiculously low internal memory, but according to the Phone storage settings page, I still seem to have roughly 8 megs of internal memory left for apps. I've moved a number of apps to the SD card, but the phone keeps telling me that my internal storage is low anyway. I never got these warnings unless I had roughly 1 meg or less left when I was running stock 1.6 Android (before and after rooting it in mid March).
ACTUAL QUESTION: Is there some setting I can tweak within the ROM, or app I can download to allot more internal memory for apps? Failing that, is there a way to change the warning threshold to more closely match stock 1.6 Android's threshold on the G1? I'm thinking that Froyo has a different idea of "low phone storage" than the stock ROM because newer phones all have assloads more memory available, and that I might be able to tweak that setting somewhere. Unfortunately, a lot of the pre-installed system management apps on this ROM are in Spanish, and it's been over a decade since I took Spanish. I could go through the menu options and attempt to translate, but I'm hesitant to delve into a new program that is ALSO in a foreign language.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I would like to thank the entire XDA community for all of their efforts and support for users. Finally, I would like to tip my hat to the unlockr community for their entry-level tutorials. Thanks again.
I think you forgot to mention this, and i dont see you have no signature with your specs, radio, boot etc...
But did you partitioned your SDcard with the correspondent EXT/SWAP/FAT32 paritions ??
Also the developer on that ROM (superatmel) doesnt give support to his ROM is if isnt within the forum where he orignaly releases his work.
Make sure you install the 15MB-boot from the DEV site. it will give you and additional 15MB.
Also, turn on Apps2SD option in the SupSetup. Then you can move apps to SD.
Depending on the size of your SD card, if you have 8GB SD, I would recommend the setting on my sig.
yeah that sounds about right.. you either didnt partition correctly or some how some way you forgot to do a wipe but still got the rom to flash, which would amaze me so i doubt it.. but i would recommend re partitioning your sd, my pref.. swap128mb ext1024mb(1g) and also do a reflash of the rom but be sure to wipe EVERYTHING and i mean everything.. it doesnt hurt to clean out the system completely every once in a while.. besides that flash the ram hack and do whatever else you normally do try keeping widgets to a minimum.. regardless wat rom it jus always helps to keep a nice clean home screen but dont be scared to make it look nice.. (contradicted myself a lil there lol) anyways good luck and happy flashing i hope this helped...
also try wiping your cache from the browser.. not sure if you surf the web alot but it builds up pretty fast try to stay on top of that lol hope it helps you out
BEST SETTINGS for Super Froyo
I did some research on compcache settings and vm heap settings so I can know what they're intended for. Upon doing so, I found it is best to disable compcache and increase vm heap to max then reboot as instructed by the rom being used. This made my super froyo run superfast compared to when the vm heap was at its default setting. Also, where Linux Swap is concerned, it is best to have a 50% swappiness and the 64mb swap partition on the sd(I actually have about 80 something mb swap, but thats just me). Maybe these settings wont work for you but they definitely worked for me. Give it a shot and see!

Scratch what I said about...
...setting the vm heap to the max. Instead, set it to the lowest possible setting and that will make this rom much snappier. I've been playing around with the settings non-stop and found this to be the best. Also, what would really help this rom is to use Firerats MTD Hack and repartition the devices internal memory partitions in order to better suit the roms performance.

LG H815 [rooted], mostly working

Having spent the last 7 days with a rooted H815, I've gotten it mostly working, at this point. I came from a Note 3 running custom ROMs, so mostly I've been trying to get the G$ as close to what I previously has as possible.
Still Lacking, as far as I'm concerned:
Omniwsitch works, but can not close apps - This is a common issues on stock ROMs, will need to wait for CM to fix this
Drives can not find the SDcard, seems like a bug in how LG reports it -- FIXED, manually had to add /storage/external_SD
DPI even at 540 is insanely large (should be closer to 500 or perhaps even 480).
Unable to automatically change wallpaper on lock screen - While at it the lock screen is awful compared to a simple stock L version in my opinion.
Apps Required to get to a point where it was usable:
3C Toolbox - remove annoying startup apps and monitor battery use
AFWall+ - Required for security
AdAway - Obvious
Wallpaper Manager - Cycle through Wallapapers
Tasker - Obvious reasons
JuiceSSH Tasker Plugin - To auto link external_SD to a more reasonable sdcard1
CF.Lumen - to deal with night time colors
KinScreen - To manage Screen timeouts
Light Flow - Manage Notification display
LTE Discovery - Being an H815 on T-Mobile helps to know what is being used
Swipe Navigation - Still deciding if it is required
Titanium Backup - Obvious Reasons
Nandroid Manager - Manage backups
TWRP Manager - Manage TWP, easy reboot recovery
Omniswitch - Work in progress, does not remove tasks currently
Persist - Volume of Notifications
OpenVPN - VPN Software
Fontster - Change the default font, with using that LG store thing.
I liked the Note 3 the size and shape of the G4 is better, performance seems about the same, maybe a little better for day to day use, we really need some decedent 3rd party ROMs say Blisspop, Liquid Smooth or even CM12 for this as the stock LG is bloated and while customizable has many limitations , I'm simply unable to fully work around.
ERIC
misleading title. should be H815 [rooted] features that are working
Thank you for sharing your findings and tips for apps.
Could you please describe, how to auto link external_SD to sdcard1.
Thank you in advance for help.
Please change the title... please

Lemfo Smartwatch Development

Does anyone have experience customizing the Lemfo smartwatches running Android 5.1? I am getting an LEM4 and wanted to know if its possible to gain access to the ROOT OS??? How can I download the firmware from the watch? If anyone can help, I would be happy to post the results here and the firmware.

Thanks,

I'd like to know also. On eBay they go by DM98. Ive seen a few YouTube videos now and my biggest gripe is that it doesn't look like it responds well or quickly. Skype looks like a terrible frame rate. But I want it! But I want it to be good. Lol. Maybe I can solder in another 1gd of RAM?
i just have the Lem5 really great watch already making my own watch themes (verry easy todo) but dint look into the rom section yet, mainly because i havee everything and google app store to install stuff. Right now i have spotify music stream to my amplifier runs great and battery live is more then 10 hours.

Oh and watch out which one of the LEM4 you buy. There seems to be two versions out there, one has android 4.4 (like the one in your link) and the other one has android 5.1.

I accidentally ordered the Android 4.4 one, what i really wanted was Android 5.1.
Had no problem rooting the 4.4.
I really like this watch, specially battery life but the way the storage is partitioned makes it difficult to really get the most out of it.
As is explained in another thread, you only have about 601mb of space for installing apps (and most of that space is already filled with stockapps) and about 2gb of space for storing your files like music, video and photo's etc...
If i could find a way to re-partition the storage space it would really be a winner for me.
Got mine a few days ago. I like it. I seems to have gotten the 4.4 one too.
A few questions:
1) How do I connect it to a computer? Where is the usb port?
2) Can I have a sim and micro SD card or are they the same?
3) Have we figured out how to put on custom watch faces?
4) Would you mind posting a link to putting custom firmware like Android Wear?
Thanks all!
@froggerman: did / could you upgrade to 5.1 (is a 5.1 rom available somewhere) after rooting? Did you swap the apps to storage with eg titanium backup (sorry, old)?

Hi
could you elaborate how to make own watch themes.

I'm very pleased with my DM98 (~LEM4, with android 4.4), imho it points to the future of wrist computers (= not 'watch' but wrist computer), so this forum should become interesting. A few quirks with which I could use some very appreciated help:
1. No navigation bar, I use 'Notification bar opener' and 'Head-up notification' to circumvent this, but there must be another / better way(?). A setting I'm overlooking?
2. No 24hour style clock setting option / checkbox in 'Date & time' setting, also not findable via 'Settings Search' app (thanks Smartwatch Ticks). Cannot find an app solution for this.
3. Rooted with kingroot (thanks Froggerman), but have some difficulties using Titanium Backup to move apps to storage, or back. Backup itself went smoothly once the backup-path was set. Anybody better option for apps to SD (there are too much apps with this name!).
4. Only one button, so no easy recovery booting (I think), no idea if Nandroid or some such can safely (re)flash a TWRP of CMW partition. Anybody braver than me?
Stats from Titanium Backup:
- 154MB of 825MB system ROM free.
- 713MB of 1.36GB free in internal memory with ~300MB apps installed (so no worries there) and
- 1.14GB free in 'Media' (=storage or SD or..).

I have not upgraded to 5.1 yet. There seems to be no firmware/rom available for the LEM4. Rooting it was the easy part. Trying to repartition it is turning out to be difficult. First of all there is no way to get into recovery mode using only the on/off button. I tried ROM Manager with my Lemfo LEM4 to force it into recovery mode. It does work and it seems that the LEM4 did go to the Recovery startup screen but not all of the information is beeing shown. It's like the screen zooms in (or the resolution of the screen is not big enough to show everything). Normally i should see a screen with a "dead" android logo and on top of the screen a choice menu but on the LEM4 only the middle part with the android logo is shown. So you can't see the choice menu. And even if you did, there are no up and down buttons (volume buttons) to make a selection and then enter that selection... I also would like to go into the recovery mode but can't seem to find a way with the zoomed in screen and the lack of selection buttons...
When you force it to recovery mode with ROM Manager you get totally stuck and have to let the battery drain out to get the LEM4 watch up and running again.

I wanted the LEM4 to be more smartphone then smartwatch. I also don't like the watchfaces that comes with it and find them not very usefull. I made the LEM4 smartwatch much more productive by installing the following apps:
APEX Launcher (i find this one even better then nova launcer. You lose the watchfaces but are able to put time and date on the homescreen by using widgets. And when you swipe down from the top, you get your typpical notification shown).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anddoes.launcher
Virtual softkeys (This one is great, get back/home/running app button on your screen). You can even make the softkeys disappear when you don't need them.

Power Toggles (Toggle your bluetooth/wifi/data and lots more right on your homescreen(widget) or notification screen)

Simple Digital Clock Widget (just a widget to set a clock on the homescreen, but i like it)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=milk.digital.clock
Headsup notification (you want notifications on your screen popping up like on smartphones and tablets? then this app is for you. I have not found an app yet that creates a notification bar, but this one is close)

These stats are differant then my LEMFO LEM4. I only have 600Mb free in internal memory, and that space is fulled up easily with stock apps and updates. There is about 2gb free in media. Seems that yours is differantly partitioned
Thanks for the info. I'll stick to Nova but agree on most of your choices and used most of them already, but not virtual softkeys, going to try that. I use 'Neon Clock' on homescreen (has a few issues but I like it).
More applications do not well-behave on the tiny screen (320x240, same as very first PDA: XDA(!) from O2), like Pujie black watch (only wear watchface designer with homescreen widget option). Apparently not all programmers check on pixel-dimensions at startup. Also -like in titanium backup- some pop-ups and message boxes do not let you scroll down to the OK or Cancel buttons, so you can only backup.
I guess nobody saw a return to smaller pixel-size coming, and this 'watch' will hopefully get more pixels and less thickness in the future.

btw: Settings Search does not find you the 24/12 time format setting

Thanks for the info. I'll stick to Nova but agree on most of your choices and used most of them already, but not virtual softkeys, going to try that. I use 'Neon Clock' on homescreen (has a few issues but I like it).

The "solution" to the small screen resolution and trying to get past certain startup screen is the following :
Install on your LEM4 Ultimate rotation control. And force it to portrait mode.
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=ultimate rotation control&c=apps
Then install Resolution changer and with the forced portrait mode you get passed the startupscreen of resolution changer.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.zuim.resolutionchanger&hl=nl
In resolution changer , change only the DPI (let the screen resolution stay at maximum 320x240). and lower the DPI number. This wil zoom out the screen and will let you pass all of the apps startup screens you come across. The only problem i had with this app is that when the keyboard pops up, it isn't properly zoomed out. But be carefull with this app, if you accidently zoom in, you can get into trouble.
This is how i UNROOTED my LEM4 (i sold my LEM4 in original condition and i ordered the android 5.1 version). If you don't use resolution changer, you are unable to uninstall rootking (and unrooting it)

Hi,
Where did you find the 5.1 version? Any obvious differences or advantages besides the newer OS?
I got around the DPI issues with Xposed and App Settings module. I used KingoRoot when I first rooted the watch, but i have since factory reset and used RootKing this time around. The only thing that worries me is how much space it uses. I looked in settings and it using 99mb of storage space! I have no idea why it's using that much besides those extra built in Purify apps which do not show in the uninstaller so I cant remove them. Compared to the 10 or so watches I already have, I really like this watch so I'm trying to make it work in spite of its shortcomings. The battery life alone makes up for it.
I'm using Nova launcher right now. I'm going to give smart launcher a shot and report back. If you don't want to use any 3rd party launchers you can use the stock launcher then install SwipeStatusBar to get your notification pull down. Still haven't figured out how get a static statusbar though. I also installed PIE controls in the GravityBox Xposed module so I can swipe in from the corner of the screen to get my PIE controls like a menu, recent apps, and home button.

The LEM4 is also known as the DM98. But the DM98 comes in two versions. Android 4.4 and Android 5.1. You can find a list of them here :
https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesal...AS_20161221092427&SearchText=dm98+android+5.1
There are different brands selling these. I ordered the TTLIFE one.
It seems that not a whole lot is different between the two android versions. I guess that the FunOS launcher stayed the same. But i hope that it gives me even more better battery life. In the comments section of the LEM4 review on the Smartwatch Ticks youtube channel there was someone who had the android 5.1 version and from what i can tell there could be a chance that the app space on the DM98 (Android 5.1 version) is bigger then the LEM4. But I will only be sure when i recieve it (probably within two weeks or so).
The static status bar is also something i couldn't find. I tried a dozen apps but they didn't work.
The PIE control app looks a bit like omni swipe... I hope to get my DM98 soon.
Did you know: tapping repeatedly on 'Build Number' under 'About Watch' is settings will open up 'DEVELOPER OPTIONS'?

Did u you ever get the DM98 Android 5.1 version?
How is the storage partitioned? Do you notice any other improvements over the 4.4 version?
Sent from my SM-N910P using XDA-Developers mobile app

I'm still waiting for the delivery. According to the tracking information it will probably take a few more days before receiving it.
I will report back when i get it.

Hi,
Did u ever receive your DM98?
I got my TTLIFE 2016 DM98 which I ordered on the 1st of December. According to CPU-Z this is running Android 4.4 so I'm not sure about the 5.1 version that everyone is expecting. The partitioning seems better as I have around 700 MB for applications even though I have installed some already.
