HC Locations maps - Desire HD General

Am I right in thinking that Locations only works with your current location?
I'm going on holiday later in the year and downloaded the maps for that country but could see no way to access them via the app. I'm presuming that when I arrive the app will refer to the relevant map rather than the UK one. Is that correct?

Yes that is correct.

Well, I can see downloaded maps offline even if I'm not in that country. If you go to Menu > Map, and then scroll to the other country, you should be able to browse through the map.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Since on the topic of locations, is anyone able to download the map for Japan? There is no option in my list.
Many thanks!

I'm also looking forward for maps for china... But, nope, "Location" is not available for some Asia countries.

jokies, I do have China-East, China-South, China-North East and China-West for downloads.. hmm

Hi guys: does anyone know where the Locations maps are stored in the device?
Every time I flash a new ROM I have to download the maps. Is there a possibility to save them? I am also able to download a map of a country which is not the mine.

Hmm i had no idea there is offline option in locations. Thanks guys

/sdcard/.data/navigator/Data/Maps
edit: .data is a hidden file and you may need to enable this on your file manager

No, unfortunately I don't have the navigator directory in the .data/ directory.
This is what is present in there:
Code:
.
|-- footprints
| `-- postcard_tmp
`-- trips
`-- trips.db
EDIT: starting Locations, it prompted the question to download the maps. I answered yes and I found them.
What I don't understand is why I didn't already find them at that location, since I've never deleted it, and I am pretty sure I have downloaded that maps before changing the ROM.

[Q] Backup TomTom maps

Hi,
<you can skip the first paragraph if you are not interested in background info.>
I recently upgraded from Touch ELF to Touch Diamond US. I got TOMTOM 7.45 pre-installed with US maps. I have been going though xda forum and realized that in case I mess up something or change ROM, I can get the TOMTOM app from the forums but not the maps as it will against xda policies.
<here is the actual question>
How can I backup TOMTOM maps from my phone? I see a maps folder on my internal storage, but do I need to backup some other files as well?
Thanks in advance.
Hi -
I don't have an answer, but curious where you got the Diamond with Tomtom 7 and US maps. I didn't think TomTom released US maps for Ver. 7.
" I got TOMTOM 7.45 pre-installed with US maps"
Thanks,
Mike
AFAIK, the license for the maps is stored in one of the meta files in the map folder.
I have been able to re-flash my UK Diamond several times (leaving the map folder untouched) without ever needing to enter my license information again.
TomTom Backup
You really don't need to do anything as said above.
As long as you can find a .cab of TomTom or use a ROM that includes it (as long as it's the same version as the one you're using), then the maps will work.
The maps can easily be backed up by finding them (I'm guessing) on your internal storage, and copying them to your computer. In there, there is a .dct file, and that's what unlocks the maps for your phone.
I hope this helps.
I have no .dct files in my maps folders, unless they are hidden files I can't see. There are map files with extensions .dat, .cfg, .bmp, .ov2, .inc, .mac, .mid and .pna. Files of these types are the present for all the maps I have loaded.
But no .dct files...

Help installing Tomtom 7 on Touch HD/Blackstone

Hi everyone.
Please can you help me to install tomtom 7 on my HD/Blackstone. This is my first PDA/phone like this , and I am kinda struggling.
I have downloaded the Tomtom 7.910.9185, with maps of western europe 1gb.815.2024
The package I downloaded had 3 versions of tomtom7 compressed.
QVGA black, QVGA blue, VGA black.
I am now lost, I have read about cab files, sending to the root file of the storage card, but I cant figure this out.
Is there an idiots guide, (I am a total newb and Idiot) showing how to do this. Maybe one of you guys has a webpage or thread with it all easily put down.
Your help would be most appreciated please.
Rgds

Does it have bigger POI icons?
Cause i've installed QVGA , it's full screen and looks nice but hte POI icons are little.
Or maybe that just tomtom 7
Hi,
I don't know if you already found how to do this but i will try to give you a simple guide:
1. copy the file VGA black.cab to your SD card root.
2. click on the file once (a .cab file can be compared to a .exe file on a pc)
3. After install, copy your map western europe 1gb.815.2024 to the root of your SD-card. Make sure that when you open the folder of the map, you should see files and not another map otherwise it won't work!
This should get you up and running tomtom 7.
POIs are small 'cause the TT version available run quite correctly on HD, but IT'S NOT the right version for HD, simply it doesn't already exists
Thanks,
Have managed to get the program to install, but no hope with the maps.. Keeps saying they aint activated..

So the problem ain't the software itself, is the map activation. You have 2 choices:
1: click here http://www.tomtom.com and have your VISA ready, or...
2: MOD EDIT....WAREZ ARE NOT ALLOWED HERE

Tomtom navigation - where to install maps
Hi all,
I'm spend a lot of time on many forums to find how to propp install Tomtom navigation (I'm using Tomtom 7).
Installing a Tomtom program is so simple but the maps thats another storry.
All informations what I'm found was telling you need to create a folder "maps" in root of the memory card and than copy all files from your PC folder of actual map there. That information is OK just if you want to use a single map.
Problem is if you want use more maps than one.Yo just simple can't coppy contens of two or more maps into the same forder.Or if you try to copy whole folders with maps into yours "maps"folder on your card the Tomtom not see that.
So what to do ???It's really simple.
1. You do not need to create the "maps" folder
2. All what you need to do is copy whole maps folders into the
" My Documents " folder on your storage card (not on" My Device " memory !!! )
Its work perfect,I'm use more than 3 maps (UK+IR, Western+Central EU, Eastern EU,...)
So maybe this info help some people whos need more maps.
Richard
I purchased the map from TOMTOM website, but when I tried to install it using tomtom home, it doesn't allow me to download

Hi stevenyu24, vidamusic et al with TT7 issues. Suggest you read through the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432410&highlight=TomTom and pay special attention to bmcconalogue post. All your problems should be solved there.
Best regards,
Just for you guys,
I have Tomtom Home 2.6 installed on my macbook and I can get MapShare working free with my TomTom navigator 7 installed on my Touch HD.
Just connect it as a Disk Device then when TomTom asks which device to use, choose the one on the Storage Card (the map is on the storage card and the app is on the internal storage)
Then, you will get free maps' correction !

Wikipedia & MobiPocket

Hi there,
got my storage card back and setting up my device again.
This time I want to configure Wikipedia, which I downloaded here:
ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/wikipedia/mobile/ebooks/
properly in MobiPocket, which I downloaded via http://www.mobipocket.com/soft/reader5/mobireader.arm.cab
After downloading and extracting the Wiki-files, I have files like
Code:
wpde.prc
wpde0.prc
wpde1.prc
...
up to
...
wpde44.prc
If I place them all into my eBooks-Folder on my SD, it will show me all of the Wikifiles...
Question:
How can I just add the main, first file to access the database? Did not find anything on the web or here via google...
Thanks in advance!
why not using http://www.wapedia.mobi

If I use online Wikipedia, i prefer http://wikipedia.7val.com/.
But this is not an answer, as sometimes you might not have a internetflat, wifi, network cover, etc etc.
The offline wiki works quite well, is fast, etc. Try it out!

New Tomtom 916.9189 Specifically for TP2 Released

Tomtom have released a new version of there software specifically for the TP2.
Version is 916.9189. Have installed but not tested yet. All traffic is working on this version unlike the previous release.
can only be installed on TP2 and maps of course still need to be purchased. They are including this with new purchases of the phone now.
If someone can confirm if ok to post the link ?
Thanks
ok link is below, if not ok please remove the link

edit from Sleuth
The app itself isn't warez since it encourages you to load up a free local map then buy commercial maps if you like it. Keygens for the maps are warez and not permitted.
With this in mind, I took the liberty of modifying the cab in your link. First, I removed all the BT drivers simply to make the cab smaller. While your original cab does have the BT drivers, the install script only loads them if they aren't already there so no overwriting occurs.
More importantly, the modified cab includes a version of 916.9189 that lights up the contact navigate button. I've placed a link to this modified cab on this post
TomTom is a great navigator. If you enjoy playing with the free map, go out and purchase legal maps from TomTom. The more WM platform purchases TomTom gets, the more they will be incented to continue to support and improve this excellent product.
could you post a link to download?
thank you

Will this version screw with the BT stack? Also, if you already have maps, will it request you to register maps again?
A further question: any help with the lag issue that many (inc. me!) are struggling with?
I doubt it - but had to ask!

I have already upgrade, and did not have any issues. Everything works great on my TP2, no slowdowns for me.
Does Tom Tom say the street names?
Thanx. Appears to work well. I'll test it tomorrow.
How about the TMC function ????
Total Noobie question here!
I currently run version 7.450, I have downloaded the new version, but what do I do with it, if I run it, it works, but I have to run it from file manager, as opposed to the program icon, how do I install it correctly?

Goto file explorer, copy the tomtom file, then goto my device/windows/start menu/programs folder. then hit the menu to "copy shortcut" in this folder. You will now see an icon in the programs folder for this version of tomtom.
If you already have tomtom installed you may want to uninstall it first or just delete the shortcut(s) from the programs folder so you know which one you're using.
Works for me. Would like to know what the changes are.

Thanks Now working ok
The main improvement is that now the keyboard works fine on the TP2 with TT7
right i tested this on the way to work this morning, for me the lag is still there so no improvment. the traffic does now work which is one thing but still a definate lag compared to my tytnII which was spot on. This is with the new rom from HTC on it as well the one with copilot preinstalled.
sdcard is a class 4 so dont think it is down to that either, shame as i really thought they would sort the lag out.
anyone else?
I get a not enough memory error when trying to install this. What am I doing wrong? Stock TMo US.

No problem with Bluetooth. I already had a previous version of TomTom installed. Just unzipped the .zip file into program files\navigator and it worked.
You don't have to reregister maps.
I was asked to join MyMaps or something like that. In which you can manually edit maps to keep 'm up to date. Also you can subscribe and download eachothers updates.

OFFLINE Maps Directory on Lumia?

I know there is a way to save maps to sdcard using WPTweaker but I was wondering if I could copy the already downloaded maps stored in my phone directory to my PC. If so, could someone kindly tell me the filepath when connected to PC? Thanks in advance :fingers-crossed:. I'm using 640 XL, full unlocked and interop accessed.
