Lcd Density - Streak 5 General

Hello, I have installed in my Streak the application Lcd density and have put the value 200 and it works of marvel, has increased the icons, the text and everything in general. One sees quite now of marvel.

Yes, that is a fine progam. I have gone to 240 but only for a while.
If you have any issue with programs switch back to 160 and check the program.

wouldn't work on my 2.2, 318...changed resolution, hit the reboot button and nothing happened.

Hello, you have to be root, the application to disburden of the market busybox and apply the lcd density.

Even after root, there is a line in the build.prop that you may have to add in order to get the LCD program to run.
And, if you are already going into the build.prop to edit, you might as well just adjust the LCD density from there. I'll see if I can find it.
I ran for a little on 160, but I found the icons to be too small. Then I switched to 240 and found that it was OK but not great. I'm on 200 now and I find it to be perfect.
PS: Here's the line.
ro.sf.lcd_density=200
Just add that in somewhere and then you can edit it as you please. You can set it to 160 (default) or as high as 240. I think it needs to be in steps of 20 (ie: 160, 180, 200, 220, 240) but it might be as little as steps of 10.

I find 140 way too small and 200 way too big. 160 is just nice. But I dont like the HUGE gaps between icons. It's only like 4 rows a screen. And the screen is so big. I like to have only 1 screen. Rest of the apps are in the drawer. So its a little irritating now. Currently, have the beautiful widget clock with weather ( takes up 2 rows), a row of beautiful widgets such as brighness toggle, wifi, timed silence and vibrate widegets and a row of apps such a messages, foursquare, market and facebook.
I really wish all the real estate on the screen could be utilized.

I think the new pay version of ADW.Launcher (EX?) can now let you resize specific icons. It might be worth looking into. I had just paid for the Plus version of Launcher Pro, so I'm not going to go down that route just yet.

Maybe you could add more rows of columns to your sceen. Maybe 4 by 6 or something like that.

I tried it last night after finally getting rooted. I tried 200 and think it would be perfect for when I have the streak in y car dock driving down the road but for everyday use I prefer the default of 160.

Mine is rooted, with super one click

That was right. ADW Launcher EX was the first app I bought when I got my streak. Didnt play with the settings so much. Yea you can add columns or rows (Both up to 8). The default is 4x4. However, although the icons look fine in portrait mode, they get screwed up in landscape mode. Some icons even over lap one another. I am sure there will be a sweetspot where a combo will work for both portrait and landscape. If anyone finds that combo, please let us know. Till then back to 4x4 for me.

[Q] More icons with 200 or less LCD density?

So I use that popular LCD changer that most of you use, and set it to 200... or 190. BUT... no matter what it won't let me use the extra space to relocate and use more icons, on either the desktop or the apparently pages. There's enough room for lots more icons per page, but my Tab thinks there isn't and keeps snapping them back to where the original density would limit them to.
???
Is this a limitation of the OEM launcher system? Which reminds me... is there a way to replace the Samsung browser icon on the launcher (to the right of the Alps button) with, say, Dolphin or Firefox?
Think there's already a thread on this I think.
Anyway, changing the density will not change the layout of the home screen (lower dpi wont add an extra column) unless you manually change it with LP/ADW or whatever other home app you use.
And do you mean you want to change the shortcut? Longpress as you do with any other.

if you had used the LCD Density program you would know what he was talking about. thats an idea dont you think?
What he's saying is this:
LCD Density makes things smaller and on the desktop it appears to give more room for more icons however that room / space is not usable at all.
You can use launcherpro to make more icons on the launcher
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA App
Launcher pro replaces the OEM one... can't the OEM launcher be used to do what I want?
I don't think there is anyway to do that in the stock launcher.
You need to use either ADW launcher or launcher pro.
I recommend ADW.
Oh btw if all you want to do is have more icons on the launcher you need not use LCD density changer.

i use lcd density changer and also adw ex (paid for version of adw). density at 180 and have 10 icons per row and 10 per column... fits the screen perfect and is just right for me.

What bit of my post have you ignored? The middle bit?
That's what I said. Changing the density will not change the layout of the desktop. It wont give you more rows because that's not what it does. It makes the phone think the screen is larger thus makes everything smaller.

Having all of those icons and rows must be an editable option that comes with the paid version of ADW. I can't get more than 4 icons across and 4 down with free ADW and 180 lcd.

In the free version you should be able to change rows and columns under screen prefs in adw settings

Thanks, but the only options or any type of settings I see for the free version of ADW are the "Launcher Actions" when you long press the home screen (or other any of the adjoining screens). I'm sure you already know but these are just shortcuts for ADW actions. I suppose I will check out the paid version.

[Q]Resizing Motoblur Weather Widget

Hey dear fellows!
Do you use any weather widget? I find the one Motoblur gives you very accurate and so I still use it. I have a very annoying bug though. The widget works in every size you want it except in 2x2. And I want one exactly 2x2. Believe me, I tried out every single weather widget that there is on the market, but none is fantastic and sized 2x2 at the same time.
Is there any chance for me getting it 2x2? I need users with coding or programming skill I guess.
Does the widget work 2x2 for you? For me it says, problem loading widget...So incredible...it even works 1x2... Any guess?
Cheers,
Kon
Do you have your columns and rows of your display set to five instead of four. Some people run five columns or five rows. If you are say set to five columns, a 2 by 2 widget would be looking to take up half of your screen, or 2 1/2 columns. You can not create a widget 2 1/2 columns wide, at least not as far as I know. Try that, hope it helps.
Edit: look in launcher settings. I hit the menu to get there on my phone, and im using adw launcher. If you're stock, I can't remember exactly where launcher settings are. Sorry.

Oh thanks for that hint, I have the ADW Launcher as well but no luck. It all looks messed up in 5 columns. I might just have to live with it =)

more columns and rows on the home

hello all
have a look at the attached screenshot. i decreased the screensize (smaller). now i can just use the space like for the standard screensize. i tried some apps already but with no app i can use the full space
i prefer have rather 1 home screen with all what i want as having 5 home screens
any hints so far
thanks
Try Launcher Pro from the app store to change from the default home launcher...in the options you can specify how many columns and rows your home screen(s) have, so that you can fill up all that unused space with icons if you wish.
You can't fill it because the launcher doesn't think they're there. The stock launcher is 5x5. Decreasing the density doesn't give you more rows&columns.

hello ovigt
thank you for the name of the software.
i will try it
i found awd launcher yesterday. and it fulfill the wishes
as you can see in the screen 8x6 icons. if i place a bigger icon (like the watch - 2 icon size) it still allow me to put some next to it.
do they have a trial version ?
i mean - the 1.8 are not the problem - if that tool is what i am looking for. it needs to be smooth with movements, not a battery killer and easy to handle.
thank you

Cool ...i run into my market !
Liking it...mostly.
Adds a new dimension to wallpaper wonkiness, unfortunately.
My wallpaper (via wizardrii) is not properly centered in landscape mode. Have not fiddled with it yet.
Anyone have any tips?
I will definitely be purchasing this for my girlfriend's 10.1.. thanks for the tip, it looks great!
Am loving it just make sure if your rubbish bin bar is located at the bottom you enable auto scaling of desktop when bin bar is used, otherwise you won't be able to add icons to the docking bar !

Mine works well for an hour or so, then takes an age for an app to return to the launcher. Only way to fix is to reboot the tab. Anyone else seen this?
Is there a light or trial version that I can try for free? I can't find one in the market.

Wallpapers aren't rendered properly, and my dock bar just disappeared on mine. Still has a ways to go on tablets.
Dock bar going away is a common "problem" with ADW. Turn off hidden dockbar in the settings, turn off gestures.
I went ahead and set mine up without a dockbar, and with just the ADW settings menu item in the top right. Removed the trash bin as well (long-press then Remove from the desktop works just fine).
"Endless" page scrolling, page-turn animation of Tilt, 350 turn speed, 15 desktop bounce, and a theme that has a transparent top menu bar. Desktop has 9x7 columns/rows, icons scaled to 95%, density hack off. App drawer is 6x6, in 4D vertical scroll.
Basically, it looks pretty much like Honeycomb at a glance, but without the one-inch "tap space" wasted on the left and right screen edges. It's much faster and smoother. About the only performance issue I've had is that it doesn't handle "card" widgets like YouTube, Market or News360 as smoothly as stock, when you go to "fling" a card away.
Maybe I'm just getting old and simple, but I don't really see the point of having the excessive customization of ADW on a Honeycomb tab. I have my homescreen setup with two widgets and about 12 regular icons, then the next screen over has some lesser used stuff. If I need any other apps I just open the app drawer and easily locate them. I mean, it's neat to make things whiz-bang and all, but from a usability perspective there's already so much overkill built in to Honeycomb that ADW doesn't seem worth the time.
On my phone, ADW is great, however. Now get off my lawn.

You don't have to use the power of ADW, it's just there waiting to be harnessed if you want it.
In fact, you can use ADW to simplify it, for example you can delete unused home screens, unlike stock Honeycomb. Doing things like adding widgets or changing wallpapers is also cleaner and quicker than the flashy Honeycomb interface. It's simpler.
I'm a card carrying member of the Curmudgeon's Club of Canada, by the way.

So... You are saying that you need adw
I like simple too, and adw help me doing that.
I mean, I do not need the 3d cubic scrolling effects, neither than the futuristic widget selection screen, or the quick search bar at the top.
I didn't choose to display the dock too in adw.
And it is so fast, close to the ipad smoothness.

It is not a problem but a feature hehe. If you slide one the dock, it disappear. I you slide again it appears. I think you can disable somewhere that movement.
ADW still sucks on the Tab..not only are the card/live widgets like Youtube slow to flick like someone said, but the worst thing is that for certain widget, like the Digital Clock stock Tab one...it looks fine when using the Tab landscape at first, then every single time I rotate to portrait view, the widget re-draws for new orientation and both left and right sides of the widget are not cut off. This does not adjust/fix itself instantly like stock launcher does and the only way to really fix it is to re-add widget or sometimes turn screen off and on.
I like the smoothness of the launcher/drawer but I aint dealing with this **** where a widget gets screwed up every single time....too annoying to deal with. Why is this such a hard thing to get right?? Is there a fix for this or no? I am not resizing the widget to begin with btw...just adding it as normal size. The homescreen size I use is 8 columns and 7 rows btw, just like stock.
Oh and why in the app drawer, the the top still unmatching/not dimmed like the rest of the drawer below it? Looks so stupid. They should dim it too and still keep the buttons in the top right corner, ughh.
EDIT: Here, compare landscape to portrait when flipped. Not only does that Digital Clock widget get cut off, but also look at the Wireless Widget..it looks ridiculous now.
EDIT2: I unchecked the ADW option for resizing widgets to fit blah blah but the same thing still happens where the Clock widget, for example, gets cut off after going vertical.. although the Wifi Widget looks a little less ridiculous now when turning. Anyone know about the widget issue though??

The 15 minute refund policy really sucks, especially for apps like ADW EX where you really need some time to get a feel for how you like it and check out all the customizations. To get around it you can always buy it, pull the apk from /data/apps (requires root), refund it, and re-install the program using the pulled apk file. This way you can take your time to play around with the app before deciding if you want to keep it. If you do go ahead and re-buy it from market. If you decide not to buy it do the honest thing and uninstall the program.

[Q] Nova Launcher question(s)

Hello,
Been using Nova Launcher Prime for quite a few months now. I really enjoy how light and slick the launcher is, however I generally add icons and little more than that. I don't really play around with the grid settings, margins, however I have seen so many great home screens for the Nexus 4 I'm beginning to get a little jealous as many are using Nova and not some bloaty launcher like Buzz.
I have found when using an icon pack, the dock icons are never the same size as the icons above on the main home screen. If I check "small icons" in dock settings they are smaller as I would expect, however if I uncheck this then the dock icons are bigger than the homes creen icons.
It gives any layout I'm trying to achieve an odd look. I wanted to give my screen an MIUI/Iphone home screen look where the icons in both dock and above are the same size. The only way I think I can do this is remove the dock, but then I won't be able to add dock backgrounds should I wish.
Anyone understand where I'm coming from here?
Also, if someone can point me somewhere to get the best out of Nova, put together some cool home screens etc, Thank you.
Have you tried resizing icons under nova settings>look and feel>icon size? Haven't really paid attention to the icon differences as I don't use a dock now.
Sent from my neXus⁴ using Tapatalk 2
I've noticed that some icon packs don't play nice with nova. Meaning that the icons get stretched out and look like they're cut off. Now if I manually add the icons, they're fine. It's not all icon packs though. Have you tried other icons?

I think there is also an option for the hight of the menubar itself (normal and higher). maybe this will help.
