Using CurrentWidget - Desire HD General

So in order to try and solve my battery probs I installed CurrentWidget, its working in that it is recording and creating a log file but I have some questions.
1. In the screen shot on the app page it shows a widget on the home screen, mine is just the app launcher and not a widget displaying battery current, how do I show the present current on screen without having to view the log.
2. How do I start a new log.
3. Assuming the above works, how do I view old logs.
Ta

1.Press on homescreen and select add widget and then currentwidget
2. Just delete or rename older logs. I usually keep a log for a day, then delete it sdcard/currentwidget.log

A bit off-topic, but I found a really good article on battery charging last night. Hope it helps some people.

Very interesting read preacher65, thank you

Thanks for your help and have now added this as a widget, however being a complete nube to Android OS how do I view / access data on my SD card, do I have to connect to a PC / mac?

Search the market for a file manager app, my favorite is ES File Explorer. I think it has a built-in text file viewer.

As an update in another article someone mentioned in another post regarding monitoring battery life a Currentwidget that after applying an update his battery life improved dramatically, so in for a penny in for a pound I updated my OS and low and behold today has been a lot better.
I plugged my phone in last night and reached 03:35am my charge current dropped to 0mA meaning the battery had reached full charge, even though it said 100% since 02:35.
Unplugged it at 09:38 and have been using the phone on and off all day camera, switching WiFi on and Off to web browse/email etc, have also been using Mobile Data.
its now 19:26 and the phone is at 78% so that's a heck of a lot better.
I have Wifi off and only switch it on when required, I have also switched off mobile internet and may consider switching it back on as its a pain having to switch it on whenever I want email, weather, freinds Stream update et al.
Anyone now a guide showing what the recommended settings for a HTC android phone are?
Preacher65 - That's a very informative article and makes sense but I would love to know why before I updated the phone why my battery was so Cr**..

If you've applied the OTA update, or flashed a ROM based on it, there are said to be improvements to battery life in the new version. I'm getting nearly as good battery life out of my phone now, with a 1.72 based ROM but the stock kernel, as I was using an under-volted kernel on a 1.32 based ROM. Hopefully there will be a 1.72 compatible UV kernel out soon, and I'll get even more.
I think everyone on the new version is reporting better battery life. With luck it'll get even better when HTC give us their version of Gingerbread.
I've also been using Juice Defender to control wifi, 3G, etc. and it's worked well for me.

Why is it hard to switch mobile internet on/off? You can add a widget to your home screen that does that.

[Q] How to use Juice Defender with Epic

Can someone please explain how to configure ALL of the Juice Defender Ultimate options on the Epic?
I paid for the Ultimate version of Juice Defender and only some Icons are lit up. Icons such as "Night" still appear to be gray.
Given the big battery issues with Epic, this tools seem like a great workaround.
You may have tried this but since you have purchased it why not try removing it from the device and then reinstalling from the market. This should ensure that you are installing the version you paid for.
You actually have to run "Ultimate Juice" before you run Juice Defender. IT will pop up and say this is just a license, run Juice Defender or something like that.
@goddimus, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling already.
@kcarpenter, where would I run "Ultimate Juice" from 1st because it does not appear in my APPS screens?
The good news is that the default auto config certainly seems to be helping a lot with battery life. Need to test for longer, but 24hrs without charge and very moderate use.
i downloaded juicedefender and let it run in easy mode or w/e its called and didnt even get seven hours of battery life so i uninstalled it.
I'm really pleased with the results so far, I only want to know how to get control over the customizations it advertises. There is no response from the developer Latedroid.
When you think about it, it makes complete sense for the phone to not eat up battery when its not necessary. Its a stellar concept and checking around you can find some sort of similar apps.
Here is what I sent to Latedroid support:
Can I PLEASE get some help on how to customize Ultimate Juice Defender? Auto mode seems to work pretty good, but if I can squeeze more out of the battery based on personal profile, it will be even better. My fone is a Samsung EPIC (Galaxy S) The "WiFi" and "Schedule" icons and their settings for example seem grayed out and say "Do nothing" in the summary area. Only 4 of 9 features seem to be enabled in some way. I paid for Ultimate.
All I am asking for is an explanation of how to use the app. All of the documentation I find talks about what the app can do but nothing about how to configure each feature. What would be ultimately great is a new version of JD that actually has a much more usable and intuitive configuration UI.... or dare I say, more "normal" looking config UI.
I had to uninstall this app cause it was messing with my cpu clocks..
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
ultimate juice definetely rocks. on the stock rom.
after flashing baked 1.0 and installing UJ again, i lost 25% in 15 mins. uninstalled UJ, and i'm getting 12 hrs of heavy usage.
go figure....
I have been using juice defender with the UJ add on since I have had the phone with the suggested settings the first time you run the app. The only things I have edited are under the app setting I completely stopped google talk from sending or receiving data at any time. Also noticed that I use less batt when connected to a wifi network so I have locale handling turning my gps on and off when in known hotspots. Attached a screen shot of how JD is saving my batt.

cognitivel0gic, thanks for the feedback, but do you find that only some of the 11 options are configurable in your JD?
What I need, and reason I started this thread is to get some help understanding how to configure all JD options. In my JD view, things like WiFi, Timeout, Night do not allow making any adjustments.
Yes I purchased the Ultimate addon from the Market.
wow X2.36
the most i got was 1.76, how is that measured? are you getting x.8 more life than me or thats compared to your previous settings? is it relative?
@mmediaman
in response to your last post yes all of the options in juice defender allow me to edit them some of them like the standby option require a double click to edit
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
@OP....this may be an obvious question but on your JD settings screen does it say Enabled or Disabled?
If it is disabled that is the only way that I know that you won't be able to adjust your settings....If it is disabled, just click on that Disabled button to enable...
Hope this helps
I have a couple of questions about Juice Defender if someone could be so kind...
1) Is there really just no way to run Google Talk with this application?
2) I use the Google News & Weather app which refreshes every hour, last time i used JD, it prevented this from happening. Any workaround?
JD is Enabled (blue button with green ON light).
@cognitivel0gic, what Standby option are you talking about? I don't see anything that says Standby on my version. Are there different versions out there? From the Help button, mine says "Evolution 1.8.8 beta". I'm using JD on Samsung Epic (Galaxy S)
And what about that activity log I see in the help screen? Does that keep growing forever??? Is there ANY documentataion for this App?
Sorry by standby I was referring to the timeout option.

Instead of trying to uninstall apps, installing Magic Locker allows you to set power saving and this could be very helpful. In my case it doubled the battery life and I now have around 60% left in the evening.

There are a number of Apps you can install that will show running applications ~ SystemPanel is one such app.
It comes in two variant ~ Paid & Free.
The free version is okay for looking at what your apps are doing but it does not offer the same level of service that the paid version gives and in this case you do need the paid version.
Full version ($2.99) adds app manager (installer/uninstaller with multi-version APK archival), and long-term application resource monitor to solve app-related battery life problems.
However, for finding out what apps are using your battery you can do this with your phone's built-in settings.
Just navigate to Settings/Applications/Running Services and look at what apps are currently running.
If you don't need a particular app running simply tap on it and select 'Stop'.
Job done that is one app no longer running in the background.
Another option is to again go to Settings/Applications/Battery Usage.
Here you not only see the graph at the top but also a list of main running apps (note not all are shown).
Tap the graph at the top and it shows you various parameters i.e. when the screen was on and when the device was awake. Basically you need both to be the same. If the phone's screen was off but it remained awake you then have an app running constantly in the background.
So, press the back button and look at the list of apps showing. To terminate an app simply tap on it and this time select 'Force Close'.
Spend a little time now and again popping over to these two places (Running Services & Battery Usage) and you should be able to identify what app or apps are eating your battery.

In my case I chose MIUI but I think any theme should work as well. After installation it asked if I wanted to activate the battery saving mode which I accepted to check its performance as I was having battery drain as well and needed a solution.
I was happily surprised the next day. I hope all these issues are fixed by Samsung in ICS.

Battery saving tips

Hi guys,
Firstly I am no expert, however I would like share my experiences and knowledge of battery saving tips. This is probably best suited to novices like myself and some tips maybe obvious to some, but hey if they are, try the next one!
Press the thanks button if this is useful.
Tip 1 :
Turn off wifi, GPS, Bluetooth - when not using it.
Tip 2 :
If you know that you're going to be in a bad reception area (has 0 bar) for awhile, turn ON airplane mode. If you let the radio keep on searching for a signal, then it's going to drain the battery. For example, I would do this when travelling on the tube in london.
Tip 3 :
Turn off google's location service, unless you need latitude. - Settings - Location Services - Turn off all 4 boxes.
Tip 4 :
Dim screen brightness, I like to use a widget called brightness level, mainly keep brightness on 25%. Screen brightness is a big culprit for battery drain.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...XJ2ZWZpc2gud2lkZ2V0cy5icmlnaHRuZXNzbGV2ZWwiXQ..
Tip 5 :
Disable apps you dont use, e.g. email and exchange servces. You can disable apps, by going into manage apps within settings. If rooted you can freeze apps, by using titanium backup.
Tip 6 :
Turn off backround data sync within apps. Apps such as Google currents, pulse etc, regulary download data in background, turn this off and manually download when you actually use the app.
Tip 7 :
If your a facebook user, uninstall the official facebook app as this is a big battery drainer, I prefer to use :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5rcm0uZmJtIl0.
Tip 8 :
Use a black or dark wallpaper and theme apps/widgets dark where possible. Thanks to b-eock here are some dark wallpapers : LINK
Theres probably some more tips I've forgotten to add, but these are the main ones I follow.
Handy checklist, thanks.
At the risk of stating the obvious, there is another even more radical power saving measure possible:
If you are in a situation where you really only need to use the phone as a simple phone, then TURN OFF BOTH MOBILE DATA AND WI-FI COMPLETELY!
I know, people will say "but what's the point of having a smartphone", but as an example, at work my only use of the phone is to be contacted in emergency. It's so easy to toggle data, I often just switch it off.
You will find that with the latest firmware and data off, the battery life is truly amazing.
Agree mobile data does eat a lot of battery to and if your phone is just sitting there idle or you are in desperate need then turning it off could be an option.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
It's a small point, but on AMOLED screens, it takes less power to produce black than anything else. If you're desperate to squeeze every ounce of battery out of your device, theme your apps darker, if you can.

So it seems, I go against all this tip LMAO. Battery still last a whole day for me.
I hate turning things off and putting phone in airplane mode and all these tips to save battery. The S3 has a capable enough battery. Just use your smartphone to the fullest.
I'm pleased for you, if one day you wanted to get even more battery life, at least you know what to do! How much on screen time do you get? Screenshots?
Using juice defender is easier and a more consequent method of achieving better battery life.
I used to do everything manually but it felt stupid because I kept repeating myself. Leaving the house: turn off this and that. Arrive at work turn on something else again.
Why have a computer and perform the tedious and repetisios task ourselves?

Good idea. Just a couple of points.
GPS uses no battery unless an application specifically is using GPS to locate you. In other words, it only uses power if its flashing away in the status bar.
No need to turn mobile data off when on wifi. The connection is not using power unless an MMS wants to come in.

thanks for the useful tips. Although my battery lasts most of the day also and it seems sometimes more frivilous to be turning apps on and off rather than to keep them all on and have your phone last a little shorter....

I'm only suggesting to disable apps you don't use such as email and exchange. As I only use gmail. The other point I made is to turn off background data. Classic example is Google currents. I just sync when I go into the app and have background data off which is a setting within currents.

Easy guide to improve jelly bean experience

Hello guys. I've been playing around with Jelly bean official, deleting some apps, adding other apps, and together with members on this page we were able to find some bugs and some workarounds. Well, i have some suggestions so that you guys can improve on speed (at least seemed to have worked for me ).
1) Download from Play Store app: Android Tuner (link for freeversion, has less options), Titanium backup, Gemini app
2) At Android Tuner, Go to Main Menu then again on the option One-Click (with the blue android) and it'll appear 2 options. One wich says One-click reset (it'll put all the buttons blue with on), and the other ont wich says "on boot" . Click on both, Leave the last one unchecked (it is not necessary to constantly do this, you can do it manualy later.
3) On same page, at the top wich says "build" click on it. Below you'll find a option wich says Presets, click and then Apply all presets. (later search for debug.sf.nobootanimation (click on the red cross, to remove it in orther to keep )
4)SysCtl, click at Recommended, the app will calculate for your phone automaticaly then click on boot so that it'll boot always with same configuration. (we can test this later, other configurations suggested by the users)
5) on the tab, scroll to your left untill you find the option SD, select cache size :2048 then click "on boot)
6) Slide again to the option OOM, and basicacly is setting same configuration as we use on Maximum Overdrive to max usage of RAM :
Select light preset
Then click on boot.
7) Using this app or titanium backup freeze or remove:
Samsung Push notification app
Email.apk
ExchangeServer.apk
8) Using Germini app ,click Menu then expert mode search for the following apps: Maps.apk, talk.apk, select each of them, select configure autorun, then press menu, and Disable app. (The app will still work, but use less the CPU usage, leaving free for other apps).
9) Go back to Android Tuner and On the main menu running click on One-Click (with a toolbox) -> Manage and it'll appear 5 options , click 1 by 1 on each.
10) reeboot
Optional: 11) Remove all live wall papers or convert to user apps, and free till 130 MB memory, using titanium backup, press menu then integrate dalvikcache.
12)Convert database to WAL(faster database).
13)On Android Tuner run again Defrag registry
Now you should have a much smoother experience.
I've tested this with Wanamlite wich is free of bloatware.
I hope this helps to get a better experience.
Note: In touchwiz launcher, when you create a folder at the menu, and you insert there your apps, if after a reeboot for some reason the apps are not there it is because you have your apps instaled on your SD card, go to app manager, select the app and move to Internel SD Card, and it is solved.

Suppose you are speaking of android Tuner. Yes. You have a button for that as I describe on this small guide .

Have you noticed any downsides of running all these steps (certain apps loading slower, lag in certain areas, etc), or any change in battery life?

For now no. I've made this guide more and less three days after testing. Never has issues. Seems to be working great and fast battery life, With wifi off and power save on. Had an estimated of 7 hours screen watching a movie. When I can test ill share the results. But if someone could test this would be great. Once I had 2 hours and 30 min of display use and still was 78%.

Sounds like the stuff dreams are made of... Once I get around to picking a new JB ROM to use (still trying to find one I like enough to keep for more than a few days) I'll be sure to try this out and report back with my results! Thanks for this!

1 hour of phone
130 sms sent
Played 10 min a 3d game.
15min played YouTube vidro
5 min video from avi file.
6 pictures taken
One film made with 3 min
Recorded a classe for 60 min
And still 34% of battery.
Power save was on all the time.

does these settings with android tuner fix the sluggish scrolling in messages list?
thats the only thing that needs to be fixed.
i dont know what you mean with that you can scroll really nice now?
its nothing new hehe
you CAN scroll smooth 95% of the time except for messages in stock JB.
whats the problem?
fix scrolling problems in messages and this JB leak is complete for smoooooth scrolling.

tried on Omega v16.2
made lag appear
guess it's more for fully stock than a chef special
I used System Tuner Pro and it had all the options that were posted here..but i did experience lag with the oom settings so i tweaked them but this app has an option to disable startup items also so you would not need to download Germini app that you were talkng abut

[Q] Nexus & battery drain due to google play magazine service

hi ,
I own a nexus 7 32 gig wifi only tab
it runs on stock JB 4.2.2
it was functioning perfectly until last week
suddenly the amount of battery drain was too high
with 8 hours the whole battery drained from 100 to 0%
in the battery stats "screen" was the highest battery consumer
i did a factory reset but still the problem persists
Now according to the battery stats,
google play magazine service is the highest batery drainer.. 89.2 %
i couldnt disable the service
I dont have any idea about how to proceed now with the issue... please help

try searching in the "All" tab rather than "Downloaded", this is because I think it comes preinstalled as a system app, rather than a separate download.
very weird that it is now using that much battery, are you trying to sync something constantly? Instead of uninstalling updates, try just clearing app data and cache if you don't use it.
in typical use, the screen is supposed to use the most battery, turn it to manual and set it to a lower value to use a little less.
