[Q] [NAND] How to charge an empty battery? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

NAND is a new experience with HD2 but what if the battery gets empty?
Mine won't recharge.
The LED lights orange but there is no recharge.
Seems like the devs have forgotten this very important thing...
Any ideas?

plug in the usb cable
then turn it off it wont shutdown completely and red led will turn on

Thanks, but the phone is off (battery is completely empty)...
Orange light is on but it does not charge...

Pull your battery out and also the plug. Wait one minute. Put in the adapter first, let it charge for 3 minutes, then startup the device. Pls do and report back

With the phone off it should just charge, magldr doesn't load until turned on so its not nand related
Are you using usb charger or mains?

Ok, thanks. I will test it.

You tell me if I'm wrong but he's trying to charge his phone witch has no power the phone is off and it won't charge so how is that nand related?

If it is a battery that has not been used for a LONG time then you must "shock" it to be able to charge it again. Use a standard 9V alkaline battery and connect the +, - poles to the HTC battery +, - poles respectively using 2 wires - do that for 30 to 60 seconds. Then put the HTC battery back in the phone.
WARNING: Do NOT connect the 9V alkaline battery to the phone. Only to the HTC battery which you have removed from the phone.

Lol same thing happen to me yesterday i charge the phone for 10-15 mins then unplug the phone and pull battery then start the phone once completely in android replug it. I think dft said it was a known problem for nand to not start sometime when plug in although it only happen to me when I'm completely drained.

its a bug caused by magldr believe me
its already a known problem.

I'll take your word for it he's probably fixed it by now anyways

Charging while phone is off is buggy for me since I installed MAGLDR.
For example sometimes orange light bulb freezes turned on even i unplug the cable, until I pull the battery.
Firsty I thought that the problem is impossible to be caused by magldr, but now lots of people with magldr installed are experienced battery charging problems ... interesting.
--
PS: Charging on Android was also always buggy for me since the first HD2-Android release.
Some of the problems (randomly happens):
1- Charging stops when it hits to %90
2- Battery level jumps from %90 to 100% while charging (according to the JuicePlotter app, it draws battery graph by time)
I'm using TMOUS HD2 and tried every single Android build since the first release.

I have reproduced this case several times,
but no, I don't have magldr installed,
only winmo and SD android.
I presume this is the bug of HD2 in general, that it won't charge when the battery level is 1% or bellow. Several occasions the phone was shut down during the sleep. Woke up and plug the charger and it always gives me orange-dim-green-dim-red-dim and so on,,, (note that this is in WinMo) and after turned the phone on, it stops charging and 15 seconds after booting, it shut off.
what I always do when I encounter this is performing battery cycles reset.
or,,, just uninstall the battery, wait for 10-30 seconds, re-install the battery, and with the phone off, charge the phone using wall charger.

These are the dangers playing with ROMS people. The rom controls vital functions of the hardware, including the way the system charges. This is a serious flaw that must be addressed immediately, and imo should not have been released if known about. The new territory of nand builds could even brick our phones permanently. I wouldnt mess around without reading reviews first. Android devs here have been quick to release builds overnight because they know it's just running off the SD card and can always be wiped back to winmo. Not anymore, these builds need SERIOUS testing first before being released to the general public.

This is caused from NAND Magldr.
If you have a cable plugged into your phone, either wall charger or USB, it will freeze when the phone shuts down.
Solution!!
Dont have the cable plugged in while powering down android.
If your LED stays orange after unplugging, pull your battery for 3 seconds and start again, it will only do this upon shutdown with some kind of cable plugged in.
This has never happened before Magldr.

This is a big issue... I dont know when Devs Team is gonna look into this and fix it...
Would it brick my phone?

No it won't brick your phone...how I solved it...discussed a couple days ago, here...

Just keep it plugged in for 1-2 hours and then try booting in to try color screen bootloader and go from there.....
If you have MAGLDR installed then you can not charge the battery when the phone is off.
You should try to charge the battery using an external charger.
Edit: If you have a friend with HD2 and windows Mobile 6.5 then you could use the phone to charge you battery.
Wrong, you can charge it while it's off.

Wrong x2.
1. No one is fighting.
2. With new magldr, phone turns itself on when plugged in. Charging when off is not possible. The battery requires management which is only implemented in software. It may hold a small charge if you have magldr installed, but it won't charge fully, or properly. Also, it's not likely he's got the new magldr if he's returning back to windows.
Lastly, for the OP, what method did you use to return to winmo? And which winmo rom did you use?

Find a way to charge your battery and everything it's going to be just fine.Your phone it is going to work.
Changing the battery should work.
I'm new here so basically with new 1.13 or later phone can't be charging if it's not turned on?

Read? Phone turns itself on if you connect a charger. Phone has NEVER charged while off with nand. This way at least you don't have to pull the battery to turn the phone on.

Just in case: If you on same situation that described on first post try this:
Q: If you completely run down the battery, would you be able to charge it with the phone again?
A: If your battery is dead, press and hold Vol Down and plug in USB cable / charger at same time. Phone will boot into bootloader and charge there just fine. Leave for 20 mins, pull battery, reboot and charge normally. If phone has just run down, plugging in the charger will usually turn it on.
Its found on one NAND thread and goals goes to g.lewarne
Actually i was on same situation and this helped on first try.
check the connection between battery and phone , the metal things i mean.
Perhaps, it is off the subject, but...
Poster #1: why do you want to get rid of this beautiful phone?
Just curious...
ok i bought another phone and i took out the charged battery from it and put it in the bricked HTC and it does nothing. now i know it was almost reverted back and i think the battery ran down but Iam not completely sure but maybe it could have been in the reverting software i used and maybe it just like lock up or something cause at that point you couldnt see the battery indicator. now i guess ill just have to sell on ebay for parts but it would be cool to try and un-brick it or try and figure it out.

[Q] HTC HD2 died and now won't charge.

Hi,
Since yesterday my phone (leo/hd2) died and when ever i tried to charge it it would go in to a boot loop then back to normal booting (as in wp7 bootscreen) but now a day later it won't even charge! I have checked the pins tried different cables and still nothing. Also there is a small red tab on the bottom of the battery near the connecter which used to be pink.
Maybe your battery is completely drained? If so, check here.
it won't even turn on so i can't perform this > does this mean it's dead?
have you tried a different battery because you have used a WP7 rom and when the battery drains out it can not be charged ( unless charged on another phone) so i recommend you using a different phone to charge your battery or get another battery into your phone
Thanks, i'll try that now. But does the red tab mean anything?
Hi,
I have this very often. Problem is that your battery is completely drained and the phone doesn't have enough power to start.
This is how I solve it:
start charging your phone
when it switches on, keep pressing the power on/off button
you'll arrive in the magldr boot screen.
just wait for about 5 to 10 minutes
start windows phone (it's possible you'll have to remove your battery and put it back in your phone).
Voila WP7 starts without any problem.
good luck!
try an external battery charger/universal battery charger. (i recommend keeping one handy whenever u r messing with wp7)

Piece of crap?
Whoa, cannot agree there...
If you carefully follow all the tutorials, hints and tips here at xda, HD2 runs fast and smooth with several OS´s of your choice.
However, there is still a possibility that your device is defective. Or the cable. Or whatever. But that doesn´t make HD2 a piece of crap in general.
Lol, its the charging port and a defective rom once i fix both i will have to go back to miui ;( Is there any rom which allows charging while the phones off.
Hi,
It's not the rom, it's magldr...
Koen
What do you mean? Do i need to downgrade? Can you charge while it's off?
if u have 1.13 and u can reach the magldr screen then plug it in,quickly switch it to usb masstorage mode. but dont keep it there for long as the screen will be awake all the time.
try keeping it that way for 15-20 mins,it shld give u enuf juice to boot it up

what he meant was that, its not the ROM's fault that u cant charge it while the phone's off,
you see, whenever u plug in a switched off phone,it quickly boots into the magldr mode, before booting ANY OS( or any version of any rom ),and thats y it wont charge while switched off(unless future magldr provides this function)....the only reason WinMo cld charge your phone while switched off is that it dint need MAGLDR before booting
try the usb mass storage method if possible,it works
hope i helped ya
dont forget to thank all the hardworking developers
I always have a problem with aftermarket chargers and charging through USB. It won't chargers in both scenarios....any body has an idea on that?
When my HD2 completely drains i just attach the (original) charger and it will start cycling boot...but eventually the battery will be charged.

[Q] Cant boot. Battery wont charge?

hey guys.
charged battery at night used it at work all day came home around 10 and battery was on 1%..went upstairs to charge but phone but was dead. when plugged into wall phone boots for 2 sec then turns off and boots again for 2sec....constantly looping like this? im pretty sure i just need enough charge so that i can boot into android and ill be sweet. but doesn't even get half way there!?
need help. cant charge.
im leaving the battery out for the night and im gonna try again tomorrow but any suggestions would be great!
thanks
Not sure but you can try this: hold down power button till mgldr menu comes. Stay in mgldr menu for some time and get some charge, then reboot.

Phone will not charge on magldr screen. Android needs to be booted to charge.
Get old USB cable, mini or micro, cut end off, bare red and black, take battery, connect red to + and black to - ,plug into wall charger and hold wires on battery for a minute or so, reinsert battery, should be charged enough to get far enough into booting to start charging.
First.. i had the same problem.
it have to charge while off.
before you cut off things, check the batterypins. one of them was broken on my HD2 (i saw one of them below my battery).
if so, try to hold that broken pin back while insert the battery and try again.
you could also buy a dockingstation (something like that: http://www.amazon.com/Fosmon®-Premi...P2YS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1313518480&sr=8-4) to charge batterys.
I had the same problem once, I`m not 100% sure how i solved it but I think that I pluged it in that it started booting and removed then the battery. I think it doesnt start automatically if you reinsert the battery then... but I´m not sure about it...

thats correct, but relies on the bootloader being able to charge when off, so this method of fixing the discharged battery problem only works with winmo or cLK
Your right i had that Problem in the time i was running it with winmob andere haret

Charge while in bootloader or hard reset screen, it should charge from there.
However, the charging process using the aforementioned methods is kind of slow.
hey guys. thanks for your responses. i have left it overnight and it doesnt get to the 1234 bit. i have 3-4 cords so i cut one up however it has blue, red, white and green cords....whats positive and whats negative?
also my pins are fine.
this is killing me!
Thank you to samsamuel, i ended up cutting my old cable. connected the red cable to + and the white cable to - and left it for a hour. just booted my phone back up and got 1000 msgs and emails lol and im on 84% battery.
thanks again to everyone how posted!
much appreciated!
Good to hear,, for anyone else thinking of trying it, an hour is pushing it a bit, you are running the risk of damaging the battery since the charge control circuits aren't being used.
What Android build is this? I remember having a build once that required a special key combination to charge the phone up. I think it required you to hold the volume down and power while plugged in to the charger and it could charge from there. I don't remember exactly though.

Nothing to do with the build,,, if you have magldr installed the phone must be on and booted into android to charge.

EDIT: I realize now that it must have been something else, can't charge in HSPL or MAGLDR (duh). I have no recollection of what though (if anybody knows, let me know because it's driving me nuts now!)
OP, you do also realize that instead of cutting up wires you could get an external charger for your battery and just charge the battery alone, right? If you've wanted to buy one of those fancy desk docks you could get one that also charges a battery behind the phone

What is wrong with my HD2? It would not turn on when on battery power but....

I was trying to delete every files/folders on the SD card while it was still in Android OS and when it was connected to my desktop via usb cable but then when I finished deleting the files/folders and when I take out the battery to reboot the HD2 it would not turn on at all.
Then when I plugged the HD2 into a charging cable via the electrical outlet, the HD2 would turn on at the "Stick Together" logo then turned off after about 3 seconds. It repeats this pattern of turning on and off continuously when the HD2 is plugged in. It would be completely dead and would not turn on if it is disconnected from the outlet and just be on battery power.
How do I fix this? Did I just brinked my HD2? Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks.
i had this happen when my charger cable went bad one night and my phone drained down to nothing. just the boot logo like you described then it reboots.
i hope yours is the same. that the battery has too low a charge to start the phone further.
I let mine charge for a half hour then it worked.
also check to see if the battery terminals are bent a little and not letting the battery charge.
good luck

Also as previous poster states check for bent battery pins where all 3 contacts need to be straight in line.

SD Android should never affect WinMo, but that has to be one of the stupidest things ever. Why on Earth would you delete the files key to the system whilst in Android?

I did not know that it would mess things up. I thought that WinMo would take over once I take out the battery.
So what happened to WinMo? How come it cannot boot back to WinMo now ?
Any fix for this?
I had the same problem when installed Winmo 7,5. turned on only with cable and restarting every 5 sec.
I took out battery for 10 mins and when plugged in worked normal.(but after every turned off i had to take out the battery) and because of that i turn back to winmo 6.5 and ics android sd card (haret) and until now working perfect.

Unfortunately I have no clue. I, like you, wouldn't have expected that. Just try re-installing if all else fails I guess. Unless by some miracle it begins working again I would think this would be the only way, sorry
Also try reformatting your SD Card to FAT32 format and see if this has any effect.

In this case your issue is normal. Windows Phone (not WinMo which is seriously sh*t but Windows Phone 7.5 which looks to be amazing) runs through MAGLDR which does not support cold charging (charging when phone is off) therefore when plugged in the phone just begins to boot up in order to start charging, but cannot charge until it is booted into the OS and there wasn't sufficient battery to do that, hence the bootloop.

[Q] Rebooting after dead battery.

Ok i don't know what's going on with this. I have been running a rom for a while on here, not sure which one, but this seems to happen with any Rom i've tried. But when the battery dies and i try to go to recharge it, it just keeps rebooting when it tried to load windows. . Once in awhile i have gotton it to go thru by unplugging it right before it goes into windows and then repluging it up when windows starts. But even that isn't working today.
Any ideas as to what to do to get it to charge properly?
Hi
I have an other experiens with dead battery. When my HD2 was dead I tryed to charge it but the red light indicating that´s charging didn´t get on. I red somewhere in this forum that when using current MAGLD 1.3 you must use external charger to charge the battery when dead but hopfully this will be corrected in future MAGLD. Reacently at work when I didn´t have my external charger with me my battery/HD2 died. I pulled in the usb charger and left so whitout the red light. After 1 hour the HD2 came alive and rebooted 2-3 times and I pulled the usb-charger and battery out. I pulled the battery back into my HD2 and it started as usual and I continued charging the battery full.
I think HD2 battery is charging even when the red light is off and it behaves strange when it cames alive. Try to pull out and in the battery and start the HD2. If it keeps rebooting I think you must try to hard reset WP7 (in magld when wp7 starts booting the 12.. is displayed hold down both upp and down volumkeys and when the text about rebooting is displayed push the volum down) this vill erase all your settings so be aware. Good luck
Hold down red/end key boot into magldr and let it sit charging for a few minutes. You will NOT see the charging light.
Boot as normal into wp7 and you will have enough juice to let it start charging.
I have the same problem when I use my HTC charger. But when I use my Samsung charger (came with my Galaxy Ace) HD2 boots normally. Also I noticed that when I use the phone on HTC charger battery keeps droping. I think it uses more power then the HTC charger charges. With my Samsung charger i dont have this problem.
I tried charging in MAGDLR menu, but that only drained the battery more. (v1.13) I had to buy a universal charger ($4) to get my phone working again.
Any idea why this hasn't been fixed in MAGDLR yet? Or might there be an alternative?
For now, I think I will program Tasker to shutdown the phone at 10% battery...
