New to D2 - Droid 2 General

Hello there, I recently made a switch from the Incredible to the D2, and its a whole different ballgame. I rooted using z4 root and have the stock kernel and stock rom. Are there any stable (low on resources) roms? Im having trouble choosing a rom to stick with. I used Myns 2.2 ,redemptive rev, and cyanogen 6.1 when i had the Dinc and i really liked those, if that makes a difference.

You have about three choices in ROM's. Bootloader is locked... therefore kernel is a no go.
As for ROM's. All three are for the most part stable and in working order. All major components working.
Fission, GummyJAR, and ApeX.
Fission (most stock Android like)
GummyJAR (a little flashier than Fission, but relatively mild in animations)
ApeX (more flashy than GummyJar and Fission)
All three are solid ROM's. Got video reviews here at the bottom of the page.

Down to the point. Love it. Thanks!

i myself like using squidlymandingo's rom it has options for blur or blurless has the best quadrant scores out of all the d2 roms i've tried and the developer is real friendly most helpful one i've encountered yet. It has many scripts so you can make the rom customizable to your liking and best of all it's fast and stable.

the quadrants don't mean anything he enabled the stagefright hack which boost's the quadrant scores for some reason. I can do it with any ROM it's a simple build.prop edit but it doens't mean the phone runs faster. I'm not trying to diss squidly just pointing out that it's not a real benefit it's just for show.

I recommend Apex. Flashed that along with a gingerbread keyboard, and I'm a happy camper plus cuts out most blur crap, I tried fission and wasn't happy with that. I tried tranqulity too, but apex is by far my favorite.

Just curious, why did u make the switch?

I like how Squidly disabled haptic features (to the extent possible) and moved the lock bar down. Im real happy with my rom.

What is considered to be the best (fastest) ROM for the Sprint Hero?

Im using Fresh 1.0 as of right now, I like it alot. Just wondering if theres anything out that would make my phone even smoother.
fastest would be IMO the AOSP 1.6, then the AOSP Eclair, then the 2.1 Sense Eclair, then modacco or fresh (cant really tell speed differnece between the two)
keep in my that these are the fastest imo not the most stable
For speed with full functionality, i would say the Fresh 1.0 with sense disabled. Faster but still very useful is the AOSP 1.6 with GoogleBits installed. The camera and sensors work, and overall it is a pretty complete build. There is no BT or speaker phone (among other things).
The fastest, MOST COMPLETE rom would have to be Fresh 1.0 imo. It flies.
I try Fresh, 2.1 and Modaco UN 1.3.. and from my experience I liked 2.1 the best is the fastest. but since its still missing accelerometer, I'm currently running UN Modaco 1.3 in my opinion is way faster. I installed it with full Wipe on the phone and its just flying.
I don't go for the NON SENSE Rom because that beats the purpose of having a HTC Hero, I mean if you don't want SENSE then in my opinion why not get a Samsung Moment?
And that's what i think about it..
I just flashed to fresh 1.1 from un 1.3 and am loving it. no FC as of yet and just seems really smooth.
Nice n Quik
so far i am using the Fresh 1.1 and its woerkin beautifully..no FC's or anything...good rom. Just waiting on Fresh's 2.1 Eclair
It might be trivial for me to point this out, but Fresh is the name of the rom not the team/person creating it. I believe it is maintained by flipzmode/freshlyill and they do outstanding work.
I've been beta testing AOSP 1.6 & love the snappiness. Toss the Googlebits on top of that & you have a ball rolling. Sure it has it's minor quirks, but it IS a Dev-ROM....
im running the "cSrOm 2.1.7" it uses 2.1 firmware, with a custom darchstar kernel oc to 768mhz, it has a linpack score of 3.266, so far very stable and very smooth and fast for me, if anyone has faster roms please be more specific, i like specs, numbers, opinions, thank you

CM6 with Deca's CFS kernel + LauncherPro for me.
CM6 and my theme
How do I tell what rom I am using? I just rooted my phone using the instructions found on these forums. Does that mean I have the stock rom?
I have tried cm6 but have had issues with the radio.

A rom is cm6, or Fresh 2.4, if you went back to stock sprint software than you have stock rom.
I knew what ROMS are, I just don't know what ROM i am using. It looks pretty much exactly like the stock HTC rom.

Go to settings and cluck about phone down at the bottom. You should find what rom your using under the software setting I believe.

[Q] What's your favorite 4G compatible ROM?

I'm stuck can't decide which ROM to go with, Now that 4G is really up and running in my area, I am no longer using Cyanogen (My favorite) Now I can't decide which ROM to go with that supports 4G I like so many of them, What's your all' opinions on which ROMS you prefer. I like more of AOSP style ROMS over the Sense ROMS.
Opinions? Ideas? Suggestions?
Ava-froyoV9, netarchy 4.1.9 CFS kernal, with Riptides colornclear v8 theme. Smoothest combo ever and everything works.

i would say fresh evo 3 i love it
I take both of these ROMS are 4G compatible?
Yep, fresh or Ava for sure!
I think myn's 2point2 is the coolest right now...im running baked snacks #6 kernel and battery is awesome in this setup.

Thanks for the input I'm gonna spend the next couple of days flashing these ROMS, If anyone else has any opinions please share.
I'm also a fan of the more AOSP-styled ROMs and agree Cyanogen is my favorite but i can't forego the 4g. So, I'm using the latest Fresh ROM with the AOSP lockscreen (just remove the HTC lockscreen and dont set your alarm using the stock clock), launcherpro, and an AOSP theme that gives you the AOSP notification bar and other AOSP-styled looks. Here's a link to that theme's thread:

Note: I use V1 and not V2 because I think the bootanimation for V2 is crappy.

Are you running sense or launcher pro?
Evo after my Apple
I am running Myn's also. Didn't use any other kernel, and staying with sense, I'm liking it. Battery isn't bad and phone works fine. I don't see any others that I like really...I would like to ditch sense, but I don't want to have to find mail app alternatives and do those other steps you have to do if you run that app to rid sense.
recent ROMs i've tried:
baked snack
evio
myn
fresh
cm6 nightlies
burntdroid
virus
ac
vaelpak
back to evio - fast, stable, nice theme, nice screen transitions (myn's were nice at first but got old and slows things down a bit) and a lot of his work is used across other ROMs. also, another important factor for me is the extra space on internal storage - i have 116 apps all on internal storage with 150mb left!
other:
manup theme
kings #6 bfs kernel
I'll throw my vote in for Ava-froyov9 ROM.
I used tons of roms, and I like Cyanogen a lot(and am using it now), but as for the Sense roms, Ava was my favorite. Battery life was great, everything worked, and an easy AOSP lockscreen flash and ADW launcher made me feel better =P
I actually had lots of strange issues with Myn's rom and in the end, it came down to which ROM ran my NHL app the best.
If I wasn't playing around with different ROM's right now I'd be using Ava's
ava-froyo v9
thanks for all the recommendations everyone. I too am wanting to keep my 4g abilities so am worried about the limited roms as of now.
Today I have been using Frost v2.2.2 if you like AOSP this is for you, The only issue I noticed if I overclock in setCPU too much the phone crashes.
I think I'm gonna go with baked Snack

[Q] Best Droid x Rom

What is the best droid x rom currently available, because with the 2.3.340 update there has been some great roms and updates being released such as ape x 1.3, and fission 2.4.3. So i was just wondering out of every rom available what should i download. I am looking for something stable, has good battery life, and decent performance
P.S. Don't be bias

<nonbiased statement>
I don't currently run any custom ROM, but I would probably say, try out Apex, Fission, and GummyJar. Those are the top 3 right now. At that point, it's up to you on how you like the feel of each... I think GummyJar has a new version that just came out, and is supposed to do really well in terms of performance...
</nonbiased statement>
^^ sorry for the stupid tags...been working with xml all day at work...and now at home... had to throw it in there...
+1 for GummyJAR
the fastest rom is the one you overclock and the one with best battery life is the one you underclock. i really like gummy though pretty good rom
Also keep an eye on Obsidian. This is from wiki.ccroms.net I believe.
This is a completely AOSP (minus moto kernal :weep build. right now there are some issues with camera and gps, and some reports of battery drain. But when this is all fixed, it should be the best ROM out there!
I use gummJAR v2.5. The best rom for you is what is dependent on your likes. If you like blur elements then apex or dark slide are the way to go. If you want blurless then focused, gummy, or fission. Battery life and speed are subjective and can't be truly measured. If a rom gives me great battery life, that doesn't mean it will for you too.
So what's the difference between Gummy and Fission? I'm currently running a version of ZapX that I want to get rid of. I'd like to have the most recent update as well.
How do both roms perform in terms of GPS? Of my friends with the X, my GPS fails miserably...
ROMs are a matter of personal taste, but after struggling with random reboots on TranQ I've settled on Gummy Jar. If you don't like blur, you'll find GJ 2.5 is smooth and stable. I can't compare it to Fission though, which gets similar kudos. The beauty of the Nandroid is you can try them all without too much trouble.
To do a fair comparison, I recommend SBFing first (if you haven't done so in a while). Then make a Nandroid of your clean set up so you can install each ROM fresh. If you like a ROM, make a Nandroid of it before going back and trying another.
Gummyjar if i can remember is completely aosp.
it also boots faster than any rom ive ever used.
if you dont use gummyjar, go with fission
I've been using GummyJar and I think I'm about to give Fission a try. Would rather see what else is out there.
+1 for GummyJAR if you want blurless but if want blur, try FlyX Bazinga 2.4. I uses it for a while and had almost NO issues. I did have an issue just for 1 day where it rebooted few times by it self but it was just for that day. Don't know what casued it but that was the only time. It never happened again. Its very stable and fast rom. I currently use GummyJAR2.5.
I agree with all those who support gummyjar 2.5. Been uaing it now, and have not had a SINGLE reboot. If u do want blur, I think there is a new rom called fusion that is being released. Its fission with blur aspects added back in.

I have been using Gummy Jar 2.1 since before Christmas and love it so far. It has considerably sped up my phone. I designed a custom theme and basically have 3 homescreens covered in widgets, so I need a light, quick ROM. This one does the trick. I have had a few restarts, but hey, I had those on stock also...
Edit: Switched to Liberty 1.0 a little while ago and it blew my mind. Definitely my recommendation now.
i used fission, tranquility, apex, and gummyjar.
tranquility boot looped constantly for me, so that one was out. coulda been just me, who knows..
i am not sure what i didnt like about apex...
fission and gummyjar were both good and i knew i wanted to use one of those.
for the last week i have been running gummyjar, seems very stable and is lightning fast. i just started doing roms in the past 10 days, and i do not see myself changing from gummy right now. my girlfriend has a stock dx and my dx is so much faster and she still gets random reboots occasionally. i, however, do not
Rubix??? cant belive nobody has said this its probably the most popular rom, at least on the droid forums it is. The latest build uses gummyjar as a base so you get all the great speed and aospiness from gummyjar plus all the crazy tweaks of rubix for insane battery life, i havn't once needed to charge other then over night and i'm a very heavy user. I do have the extended battery though
I've tried all the rims you've posted and always go back to Fission. I really wanted to like gummy but it seemed inconsistant to me.

Which ROM to get...

So I've been away from the DX scene for a while since I reverted to stock. I see there's a lot of ROMs out now, and they mostly look the same to me.
Can anyone offer some advice that will help me decide? I don't care as much about customizing right now b/c I don't have tons of time. I use LauncherPro, so I probably won't care about the launcher with the ROM.
I just want speed and stability, because my DX is acting up right now.
I use Liberty 1.5 however I don't like the change of the boot logo so I changed it back to the Motorola boot logo but kept the boot animation using liberty toolbox. I used it's overclocking function in settings because I didn't want to pay for an app to do it for me. I'm at a stable 1.25 Ghz.

Liberty is great that is what I primarily use. If you want speed and stability, also look at rubix focused 1.9.7 or darkslide 4.2
ROMs are really a personal preference of what you like. I recommend reading up on each you are interested in and try out each one

Why not Fission?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yeah, I've tried reading up on them, but they all sound really rather much the same when you look... at least to me.
What do Rubix, Darkslide and Fission got over the others/each other?
Darkslide is a heavily themed rom right out of the gate. Very stable but a little slow even when overclocked imo. Rubix, Apex, Fission, and liberty are in fact very similar and fast blurless roms usually with great battery life. The differances are mainly in the framework tweaks and settings the individual dev put into each. That said although very similar some run better than others on different phones. For example liberty is extremely popular and gets rave reviews. For me however it is extremely buggy with lock ups and reboots even after a clean install post sbf. But, I run Rubix with no issues at all and get full 24 days plus out of my battery. I may sound biased but just stating that is how the roms panned out for me. You may have the best running rom for your phone on liberty or apex, who knows. Make a nandroid so you can restore in seconds then try each rom as I do. Run each at least two days allowing then to build cache and run at peak. Then simply keep our reload the winner for your phone. Great thing about the x is plenty of choices.

When you get tired of fc's reboots and freezes, go to the darkslide. Its fully functional, as in everything works, and it's fast and doesn't slow down over time. Also great battery life.

Coming from a newb who like to tweak the look almost daily, I like Liberty. With the Liberty Toolbox you can adjust themes, install add ons-blur, etc, and do so much. I think the toolbox alone adds another level of on the fly tweaks that other rom builders should follow.

Which rom would you recommend?

I'm currently running CM7, I haven't tried many different roms with this phone, the others I had on my phone at least(besides CM7) were Froyo(stock/rooted) and rooted GB. What other custom roms would be good for me to try, for example, if I want to keep hdmi functionality and 720p recording etc. Is there an AOSP rom where I can keep that functionality?
Liberty .9 is pretty smooth and has the HDMI and 720 p recording down, as well as being very customizable (liberty customizer prompts at first boot to choose which features asop and blur you wish to have).
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
I'm currently running DarslideX. It's a GB based prerooted rom. Has hdmi support, as do most GB builds. Been on it about 2weeks now, very stable, some blur, most bloat removed. There are a couple people making custom themes, sliders, etc for it. You can find it over at mdw.
My DroidX Thrives on the DarkSlide!!
I've had liberty and apex and the rooted leaked gingerbread but I have been happiest with cyanogenmod. Just waiting for HDMI.

Thanks for the responses. I did try Apex, then I installed MIUI.
I am in the same boat. Looking for another GB rom until cm7 is stable.

Cm7 is very stable. I update with the nightly every day. I do have to flash the camera fix to make YouTube work and I also flash the dx2 sound pack from team black hat app although they took it off the app. Wish there was a good HDMI fix already but that's the only thing that would really make cm7 any better for me.
DX+CM7
I'm currently using MIUI and besides the questionable battery life, I love it. My phone feels completely different, in a good way. It's also very smooth and haven't run into any problems yet.
I've been using Liberty v0.9 since it came out. Very smooth, customization is there, everything works... Best rom I've used. Had a problem the first time I loaded it. Re-downloaded it and data wipe fixed it. Liberty toolbox is just as good as team blackhat app.
I'm running Liquid now, i looked at Darkslide X, my phone isn't activated yet, and wanted to know if i have to switch back to stock to get it activated(i may flash to a local company, not Verizon). I might try Liberty.

Agreed 100% MIUI so far has been absolutely wonderful. I would agree though about the battery life issue. Prior to MIUI I was running an early leaked build of Froyo, FroyoDynamite, with SetCPU active on stock kernel I was getting around 2 days of battery life. With MIUI I'm lucky to get a full day.
But everything is super smooth, and it is absolutely beautiful, and the ability to change themes on the fly is amazing. I would agree, it's like a brand new phone to me again.
So is it worth it going from liberty 2.01 to liberty gb .9? I've been holding off because I finally got my dx to run nice with minimal random reboots. I'd love to be on 2.3 but If its still unstable I'll stick with this.

Liberty .8 was good. I then went on to try other ROMs. I avoided APEX because of the bluetooth issue. Right now I am back on rooted 596. CM4DX blew up on me on build 23 and I have been staying away.
I'm trying to find out which ROMS do not have the in-call bluetooth volume issue. I am not getting very many answers though. I wish there was a list of ROM's that do not have the bluetooth issue.
