Hi, I have a problem with my I9000M running JL2 : voice calls and mobile network aren't working with my videotron sim card!
I guess I need to change the HSPA/UMTS frequecies of the phone from 850/1900/2100 Mhz to Videotron frequencies (1700/2100 MHz --> Band I (2100); Band IV (1700); Band II (1900)
From what I've read in the forums, I have to flash a modem file using Odin in order to change the phone frequencies.
The T-Mobile Vibrant uses 1700/2100 MHz bands... but I'm not sure JL2 has been released in the US, so not sure i can find a compatible modem file...
Well, I'm not too sure how to solve this, if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
From what I've heard up to now, change the phone's frequencies in that manner is hardly possible...

The i9000m does not have a 1700/2100 antenna, it has a 1900/2100 antenna. The i9000m will not work on Videotron's network. You need the SGH-T959 T-Mobile Vibrant.
I'll try to change the antenna then (to change the hardware) will find the appropriate antenna on ebay or something...I'll keep you posted to let you know if the operation is successful!

yes it's currently locked, but it works with the Sim unlock cards, however we'd rather have a software unlock, so we're inviting all the developers/hackers interested in joining.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think T-Mobile 3G works on the 1700Mhz band, which I do not see list on the Vibrant GT-I9000M page:

Soo...can you confirm this phone is compatible with T-Mobile 3G/HSDPA ?

1700 is related to AWS. Tmobile (US) and Wind (Canada) use it.
Also note the T-mobile Vibrant has 4 keys (Menu/Home/Back/Quick Search) versus the international version which has 3 keys (Menu/Home/Back). Not sure what effect this could have on rooting.
The T-mobile version also lacks front camera and FM radio.
I would absolutely go for this if the i9000 supported 1700Mhz for T-Mo...

Just curious if I can flash i9000m firmware to my t959 vibrant? I am trying to get 3g to work on my vibrant with Rogers but I am not sure if flashing the firmware for i9000 will change anything?
There are experts here, but my supposition is that this would brick your phone. The i9000m is not the Vibrant, as far as I know --- even if they are both Galaxy S phones.
In addition, flashing a working firmware would not even help. The Vibrant receives the 3G frequencies it receives: (iirc 1700, 1900, and 2100). The 1700 and 2100 are what t-mobile (and most of the world) uses. The 1900 will work in the AT&T areas that use 1900. If Rogers is not one of these three in your area, then no amount of flashing will make it work.
I am not an expert, but this is how I understand it to be.
Rogers is 1900. He should get 3G in most places.

as long as you can get into the download mode
then you can flash anything you like, and be able to roll back if it fails
hey fellas.
let me explain a bit.
i have a optus galaxy S, but i am with telstra.
as far as i know optus 3G is 900mhz ( or whatever it is, 900 something )
and telstra is 850, therefore telstra 3G wont work.
i put my mates optus card in my phone last night and it worked fine, 3G all the way.
is it somehow possible for me to get 3G on telstra? a diffrent baseband thing or something?

Your obviously near a 2100Mhz enabled tower, but, if you roam out of the 2100Mhz range (mainly capital cities and large regional cities) you'll only get a 2G signal on your phone with the Telstra SIM.
Your Optus phone is hardware set at 900/2100, you can not access the 850Mhz 3G band.
I don't think Optus had their own version of Galaxy S. It should be the international version.
GSMarena shows the specs as:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100
Seems like there is no 3G for 850?

Edit: I highly doubt if it'll work, since I can't see any documentation of a stock SGS being able to do 850MHz and HSPA+ (which NextG runs on) at all. It seems, as in most cases, Telstra gets different phones that runs only on their network.
If you enter the correct Telstra apn details you should be able to get 3g 2100MHz coverage but you will not get NextG 850MHz coverage. It is harware/radio related and flashing a 850MHz firmare like that used by the I9000T or the I9000M will not change anything.

After further reading it seems sxi200 is correct, the radio on the normal I9000 doesn't have the required hardware to connect to the 850MHz band. Earlier I was thinking the phone would all have the same radio that covers all bands but has the 850MHz band locked out.
This might interest you, but when the time comes you probably would already have a new handset then.

So got my new baby, and I love the stock Android UI.
But I got issue connecting to LTE networks here in Germany. A friend of mine bought it in the US store and sent it over to Germany. 3G no problem, but LTE isn't working.
I checked the tech specs, and it says 4G LTE (700, 850, AWS, 1900 MHz). Here in Germany T-Mobile is using Band 3 (1800 Mhz) and Band 20 (800 Mhz) So there is the culprit.
Is this a hardware restriction, or could be solved via software? Maybe flashing a different baseband?
Unfortunatly on the Phone Info screen, you cannot change the GSM/UMTS band. The list is empty. It worked on my Nexus 4 though...
Maybe its possible with a modified modem/radio, dunno it thats correct though and how to do it. There is a radio thread on this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025, check it there.
It might be possible to change the bands using QPST (you won't be able to flash the international modem) there is already a thread on the I337 forums http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291589 that has a tutorial for enable AWS bands on the device. The process should be roughly similar assuming the device's hardware can operate at those frequencies.
If it works you will lose north American bands until you rehash the I9505G configuration back.

Before anyone asks, I have already tried the search function and was unable to get any pertinent results!!
I have a n9005 unbranded factory unlocked phone that I purchased through a retailer in Singapore. I absolutely love this phone it is such a beast!
However, I am having a problem with the handset. I am with telus up here in Canada and I am unable to connect to their LTE network. I called customer service to ensure that LTE is enabled on my plan and it is. I am getting HSPA+ speeds and I am able to make voice calls just fine, but I bought this phone thinking I would have LTE enabled on it.
Now from my understanding, the snapdragon 800 chipset has LTE bands that support numerous networks. However, since this is a phone from Singapore it may only have Singapore LTE bands enabled. Is there a way to change it so that it recognizes Canadian bands, more specifically Telus' LTE network?
I read that by flashing a new modem or csc I would be able to get LTE speeds, is this the case? If so, can some one guide me in the right direction on how to do this as I am a complete noob!

Singapore uses the 1800 and 2600 LTE bands, Telus only the 1700 band. You're using a phone that doesn't even see your LTE band...

if u havea 4g enabled device such as note 3 model number n9005 then u can use 4g untill its frequency is not supported.... the supported frequencies are not software based.. the are hardware based andcannot be changed.... note 3 n9005 supports LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 and note3 n900w8 supports LTE 700 / 1900 / 2100 ... if ur carrier transmits on frequency other than these then us device is useless.... many people buy these devices only because it has 4g but they arenot even aware of supported frequencies so u all must research properly before buying....
