[Q] How do I unroot my epic 4g completely? - Epic 4G General

I posted this is android development and someone deleted it I guess without notifying me... How do I unroot my epic completely?
Will this work? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032&highlight=unroot
I don't want no mods on my phone at all, i want a 100% unroot to where I can get the samsung OTA updates.

**Sigh**
Searching is helpful man, really. There was a thread about this yesterday. Use the program at this link: One Click Root And Recovery
One of its options is a root uninstaller. But FYI as long as you don't install custom roms or delete stock apps you can be rooted and get OTA updates. Again, this is all information you can get using the search function so please, in the future search first.

EDIT: Removed. Duplicate of what kenvan19 said...
But taking a second look at your sig, you may need to flash a stock rom/kernel first, but it may be easier to just use Odin to fully return to a stock phone removing all changes.

RootUninstaller is Old. Needs updating.
I encounter some problems using the link kevin gave with the root uninstaller. Attempts failed. I am on EC05 trying to uninstall the root and cwm using old DI18 rootuninstaller.
Any one know if there is an updated version?

just ODIN stock ec05. Or ODIN stock di18 then do update to ec05.

Here is an article with rooting and unrooting instructions and links to all drivers and programs needed:

If you have a rooted stock kernel and ROM it will. But if you have a custom ROM and kernel you need to Odin back. Mybackup Pro will allow you to backup and restore unrooted.

Nope, has anyone tried unrooting? The unroot method does not want to work on EC05. It goes through the process and on everything its says failed! rm /**** no permissions. Also ran CWM to fix permissions..
I still can't find a solution. Stock EC05 that is rooted to 2.5.1.0 using one click root.
Any other tips?

Just run ODIN and flash a clean stock build of DI18 then OTA over it to EC05.

Has anyone tried this on MyBackup Pro?

Short answer; no. You don't need to unroot to update OTA if you're running a stock build. The update will cause you to loose root though.
Just to clarify for the sake of caution, I installed the leaked 2.2 update. Can I install the official build OTA or do I need to read up on Odin and manually update it? Thanks.

From what I've read, in order to flash the ota you have to have the stock recovery, so your options are to odin the modem and flash one of the roms through cwm -or- odin the entire .tar and then run the one-click-root.

you could and it will work but why go through the extra work ??
use odin to update the modem (very easy) then go grab the ACS DK28 ROM. it's already rooted for you and it can be flashed via Clockwork .. very easy to do IMO.

JK6 Is So Frustrating!

All i want to do is install a metamorph, and flash a couple things. But i have to go through so much to get these even working. I rooted and installed busybox, but now metamorph says there isnt enough free space in /system. ugh.. and to get CWM working, i have to push 3e recovery so that the update.zip works? wtf dude this is gay.
Im on stock jk6 btw
Odin back to stock ji6 then flash the stock jk6 rom. Everything will work after... I had the same problem. Everything is good now.

JK6 is a LEAK, therefore, things haven't been totally updated for it. And since there's no source for 2.2 yet for vibrant, using another recover for it (2e) is pretty hard. If you want an easy way to get root+busybox+3e all in one, flash the deodexed CWM flashable in the dev section (after ODIN'ing to jfd). You can't expect all the previous methods from 2.1 to work as they did with 2.2...

[Q] Need some clarification on OTA update.

Ok I am full rooted thanks to un-revoked.
I have downloaded the new update on my phone but havent installed yet, Battery was to low so gave me a notification in status bar to update later.
I understand i have to flash to the Amon ra recovery.
all i want is the stock rom, with the ability to use wireless tether and adfree, so obviously i need superuser permission.
Will i have to flash to a stock rooted rom?? or will i just be able to install these and be good to go?? is there even a stock rooted rom out yet??
Thanks for any and help. love the site dont post much cause normally i can figure things out, but wanna double check on this one.

Make back up and perform full wipes.
You must install the rooted Rom for precautionary reasons.
so should i even update my phone then?? or should i just flash right to one of these?? seems like it would be easier just flashing right too those since i currently have clockwork installed.

People have done it successfully, but the OTA only installs if your system files weren't modified at all. I couldn't the OTA to install - probably due to changes I made in Xposed. I'm going down the leak KK route for now.

OTA failed for me as well. I have removed or frozen just about anything Verizon. Waiting for the MD5 firmware from Sammobile to download so I can try to Odin the file

Well, I took the leap.. downloaded the md5 file from sammobile and flashed via Odin.
Alas this is not the way to keep root. I no longer have root. And now have all the bloat from Verizon back on the phone.

Does anyone have any tips or what to look for if the update keeps failing?
I had Xposed Framework installed...and I think that's the only thing that I had installed that modifies system files...but I uninstalled it's modifications from within the framework app itself, then unistalled the framework apk, then all of the module apk's, then I disabled SU, but the update still won't take...
Anyone have any ideas without losing all my stuff?
Thanks!

But if I follow this thread:

I just want to return to latest JellyBean (MJE) stock, root (with Kingo), and then update to NC4 with root intact.

I just wanted to report back and say everything went great and I am now on NC4 with root! Yay!
Just for the record, in SuperSU I had set SuperSU to DISABLED, then set the Survival Mode to ON, then set default action to DENY. Not sure if that matters, but that's what I had and it worked.
Thanks for the tips everyone!

To clarify, how did you finally get the OTA to take in the first place? I did the same as you - uninstalled Xposed modules and framework, reverted framework-res, disabled SU, unfroze any applications, but OTA failed.
EDIT: Or did you Odin back, then disable SU, then OTA? Just confirming before I do it
Thanks!
If you really want to keep root I would not flash NC4 at all, you're risking the possibility of never getting it back. No one has found any major changes from NC2 to NC4 so you really won't be gaining much but could lose a lot.

Yeah, I hear ya. I generally like to just stay stock+root, though, so staying with the official OTA is generally my preferred route. Might just wait and see what comes out in the next few days.

Pardon my ignorance. But assuming you are rooted now with TWRP can you just update OE1 to OG5 and then flash BeastModeStock1.0-N910P-OG5.zip to get root back? or is it more complicated than that.

It is slightly more complicated. If you're saying update with this stock tar, yes but in addition to TWRP and Beastmode kernel, you still need to flash the SuperSU zip to root. And then there's the need to reapply your debloat, getting rid if Knox and ItsOn and any compatible mods.
Or just update with the tar (drag it out of the zip to a folder prior to flash in Odin), Odin TWRP and flash custom pre-rooted OG5 ROM. Not to get technical but you had it right if you add SuperSU zip to your question unless you were asking if you could just flash a OG5 ROM in recovery. I wouldn't recommend that. Clean install is also recommended.
Here's a step by step guide if you have problems.

I wasn't sure if userdata applications were wiped or not.
Did you have to do anything special to get Android Pay to work with root? What were your steps and applications used? Standard AP apk or the one recommended for root users?
Or did you just flash stock tar, setup AP and then root?
Trying to get to the root of the issue others have. I hear rooted stock works with AP but others are having issues with custom ROMs.
