Hello Guys/Girls,
As I was struggling with this I though I would share the info to help people get NAND Android installed.
Firstly if you are getting the below message you are most likely missing a couple of file's in the same directory called EnterBootloader and rapitool (which I have included in this post)
"Error Description: USB init failed
Info: .\RSPL\RSPL.cpp (723)"
Simply place those file in the same Directory as the DAF.exe file and vola it should now start the flashing from the DAF.exe file.
I hope this helps.
***
If you are running XP Go to control panel and then active sync while connected in MAGLDR while it states Wait USB...USB and un-check Allow USB then right click the DAF.exe and run as Admin, that should allow you to install.
***
Nigel
Many thanks. I will check now.
Oh yeah I understand. That seems to be a bug of the DAF installer. These files normaly get removed after the RUU has run. And they also do in the DAF installer.
THANK YOU!
still not working

this aint working for me, its like my pc aint fiding my phone. or the bug fix doesnt help.
however i can use diskdrive mode and htcsync works. so i dont get it.
im just trying to get the new kernel on my stock desire nand.
plz help,
I was getting the same error. I took these three steps, and all is now working - im not sure if all three 3 steps contributed to success, or any one of them - but taking these measures definately worked for me (im running Windows XP by the way)
The phone should be connected to the PC at all times during these steps.
1) Install MAGLDR using admin rights. This was done by right clicking the Magldr.exe and selecting 'run as', then clicking 2nd option, signing in as a user with admin rights.
2) Open ACTIVESYNC, 'File', then 'Connection Settings' - UNCHECK 'Allow USB connections' Reboot phone
3) Right clicking 'DAF.EXE' file and running with admin rights (like it was done in Step 1 above). Click Next, next untill its searching for USB connection
4) On phone, select option 4.
hopefully, it should all now work
Hope this helps.
try your method....

Getting same error here even with the suggested fixes. Ran as administrator, added the missing files and still the same USB init error. I am using the correct HSPL and radio files. Could it be the Windows XP laptop that I am using? Will try my other laptop running Vista and report back.
This may could be a solution for a couple of us flashers:
After flashing the NAND Android rom to the Leo I deleted the WinMo device Center which includes all the drivers for the device.
Now I installed the device center again and was able to flash !
thank you very much. this was exactly the problem in my case and it works now. thanks again!
I know a solution, on the little Active Sync Menu, after MAGDLR recognizes that it's connected, I mean when you get on the phone screen: USB...USB
Go to file, connection settings and uncheck allow USB connections. After this run the DAF.exe, it should work normally. (xp users)
Its win xp thats the problem!
I have flashed via win7 and vista.
I have vista, and I had the same problem, but when you read the dft 1st screen, READ ALL INFO TILL YOU GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE, THEN CLICK NEXT. THIS WORKED FOR ME AND ALSO OPEN EVERYTHING IN ADMIN MODE!!!
Just open the DAF.exe before selecting flasher in magldr that how it works for me
I was having the same issue. I downloaded the NAND version from the DFT and the NAND from CMN 6.1 v.1.01. I replaced all the files from CMN with with the files from DFT so that I didn't use DAF. The problem is DAF. Just load Android with another Launcher.
loading nand
Restart Phone hold down power button and when you get to MAGLDR menu use Vol. down and choose option 4 by pressing Red button(bottom right). Then goto computer and right click DAF.exe and run as administrator and this sould work.
Well, I used my Vista computer instead of my XP computer to redo the install. Saw on another thread that a person used the ANDR_INSTALL execution file from the NAND CM6.1_1.02 build to replace the DAF execution file of the current NAND build they were trying to upload. In my case it was Cmylxgo's NAND build. Started from scratch and now I was able to load Cmylxgo's NAND build properly. Not sure if it was not using an XP computer or replacing the DAF file with the ANDR_INSTALL file from another build but it worked for me. Now to see what the battery drain and use is vs. the JNF WM ROM, MDJ Froyo 4.6 build with Hastarin 8.6 kernel that I have been using.

well..i go through a lot of forum here and there but failing to find the installation on HTC shift without using external hdd. I got no external cd-rom drive ...tats why i go so much trouble using external hdd for installation.This is not my original but from http://wiki.eeeuser.com/windowsxpusb
THE Whole process is a success!!! I installed the xp sp3 the first day i got HTC SHIFT japanese version(few days ago)
OK THIS IS what i do.
MAKING HDD BOOTABLE
1. prepare a windows xp sp3 not tablet edition(in image also can) , a bootable external hdd, and {WPI.exe,tabletPCPATch both from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=465525}for later use when installing driver
2.make ur external hdd(mine is 30g) bootable and put the source windows inside the hdd.(how to do this--->see below) I m doing this using desktop windows xp instead of vista.
You will need a special tool to copy the Installationfiles and making the usb hdd - usb_multiboot_10.zip
Unpack to any folder. THE PATH TO YOUR FOLDER MUST BE SIMPLE AND WITHOUT SPACES! (ex. c:\usb_multiboot_10)
Insert USB HDD/flash disk
ALL DATA ON YOUR STICK WILL BE ERASED! Please back up before running USB_MultiBoot_10.cmd!
Run USB_MultiBoot_10.cmd. follow text description.
Format utility will apear. Choose NTFS for >=4Gb usb flash and FAT16 for other, Start format, Close after finishing.
NOTE: If you are doing this from a Vista machine, you may need to run PeToUSB.exe as adminstrator in order for this program to recognize the jump drive. (Right click PeToUSB.exe > Properties > Compatibility > “Run this program as an administrator” checked.)
Set option 0 to use USB HDD instead of a USB stick/ SD card.
Then select the windows source in the option (in my case , i mout the xp sp3 image in drive, and select the windows folder)
Choose 3 after setting all other options. It will create the image and write it to the USB HDD as well as making the USBHDD bootable.
Answer Yes to all questions that come up (these vary depending on options selected).
When it finishes copying, remove your usb HDD and insert it in the HTC SHIFT.
When you turn on the HTC SHIFT, hold down FN+F10 to choose the boot device and select the USB HDD of yours. You'll need to do this at each reboot until XP is fully installed and you've logged in.
Choose Text installation at first time and GUI INSTALLATION AFTER REBOOT TWICE! - ( Choose step 1 to start installing, after reboot choose step two, after continued install press step 2 AGAIN to log into XP - As soon as you arrive at the Windows XP Desktop you can safely remove the USBHDD
IMPORTANT! DO NOT REMOVE USB STICK UNTIL YOU'LL SEE XP's LOGIN SCREEN!
INSTALLING DRIVER AND PATCHTABLET
after installed xp, apply the tabletpatch and continue with yours driver installation in previous thread.

report if you work this way too...SO FROM THIS DAY ONWARD , SAT GOODBYE TO YOUR CD ROM DRIVE. since i can boot from usb drive..and of coz i can boot from usb flash disk or sd card. the only thing is the bios must recognise the bootable device or else nothing can go on.
Damn, I should have known that two months ago. I ended up borrowing a external CD-rom player from work after many a day of too little sleep
Well done!
hal.dll? Can anyone help?

which means the whole installation will using usb-hdd(boot from it)
thank you!
does it mean, i should not! boot/install from usb_stick? i should boot from external usb-hdd, and not from usb-stick?
no no....usb-stick or usb-hdd will be the same. i mean the whole process must be boot on usb device till the installation finish.
"<windows root>\system32\hal.dll " error u got mayb means ur installation not finish...so.
from now on..reinstall whole process again
remeber
Choose step 1 to start installing, after reboot (dun go hdd )choose step two, after continued install press step 2 AGAIN to log into XP - As soon as you arrive at the Windows XP Desktop you can safely remove the USBHDD
but this thread is refer to hdd only.. i didnt try the usb stick but i think the procedure wil be the same
thank you!!!
i did start from usb-stick, than there was the failed-information, than i did boot from usb.stick ( step 2 ) again. later i got the standard xp-sceen, my mouse was working and i did remove the stick. but afeter new start, there was a mistake and the system did not start agein.
now i have started the process again from beginning. i will give you the information, what happened.

Hi,
Thank you for this method.
Win xp installation started from USB stick and HDD formatted successfully.
However, once start expanding the files I got the error:
'The following value in the .SIF file used by setup is corrupted or missing:
Value 0 on the line in section [SourceDiskFiles] with key "binifix4.cmd."
Setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press F3'
any idea?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Update to the above .. it seems that was because I used my old xp CD (SP zero!!) .. I've repeated the steps with other CD with SP2 and worked fine ..
Note: first one is professional and second one home .. probably this is the cause as well.

Sorry, was a little rushed before. My PC does recognize a usb connection. Found daf.exe, gave me this error message when I used it:

ah yea that. not sure what to suggest, other than turning off any activesync connections (although that would usually be for the 'usb init' error) and running daf as administrator
Still getting the same trouble running as admin, though im not too sure how to turn off activesync (or whether or not its actually on)
what does DAF.exe do? Ive got this ROM downloaded:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=918899
not quite sure how its supposed to make it onto the device. I'm a real noobie at this, thanks for you help by the way.
so is there a tutorial or something you would suggest? or anyway I could uninstall MAGDLR from my phone so I could atleast have a phone until I figure this stuff out?
daf.exe (possibly Dark forces Android Flasher .exe? ) is the program you run on the pc to start the flash, and the windows mobile roms version it is called customruu.exe, and for stock roms if you extract them, it is ROMUpdateUtility.exe, , , , the flashing program, basically.
First thing i'd try in your situation, if available, would be a different PC.

ok, ive just re read your posts, , do you HAVE magldr on your phone?
lets assume yes you do, so, erm,,,,, (i cant write detailed instructions, there are loads of steps and variations for the bits you need to do, , ill break it down as best i can into a 123)
with the aim of flashing a zip rom, from sd using clockwork.
0 prepare SD card - EXT partition - your rom.zip on the FAT32 partition (can do this by mounting usb storage from magldr menu if you dont have a card reader)
1 apply hspl - 2.08.hspl
2 make sure radio is 2.10.50 or higher
3 into bootloader - usb - flash magldr ***
4 into magldr menu - usb flasher - flash the clockwork mod using the partition size you want. ***
5 into magldr menu - boot AD SD - this will start the clockwork menu
6 'install zip from sd card'
7 'choose zip from sdcard' - select the zip you put on the sd card
*** both these steps include a DAF.exe - don't confuse them, put magldr in one folder, clockwork in a different one.
when its done, restart, and it should load. be warned teh first boot can take a loong time, dont be worried if it hits ten mins, twenty, maybe. Ive had a few roms that set up but dont boot right, a quick battery pull usually sorts it.

this is the screen that comes up when I boot it.
the very top reads: aMAGDLR v1.13
Build: Feb 1 2011
then it goes into the boot menu
Is this MAGDLR?
I know I have the first 2 steps up right, and I am now trying on my laptop, but I still cant get the Daf from either the MAGDLR or the Gingerbread. Im going to run through it again using your instructions right now

If he was able to flash anything from the "usb flasher" this thread would not exist. So flashing from sd requires you to flash a cwm through "usb flasher" where his pc didn't recognize usb. Try different pc/port restart pc and try again.
Also go into usb flasher. Start dft and then plug in cable. Wait for "...usb" then try again..in admin mode for example

Yeah same here, though in the topic you first posted in Ruinoc said that they are investigating.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14862461&postcount=73
Strange though, because others have posted saying they have succeeded even though their HBOOT is 1.01.0002 like ours.

No luck with trying it with run as admin, and I doubt the usb is anything to do with it - its only when it reboots does it fail. the phone is detected at the start which should suggest the usb is ok.
For what it's worth, I also tried it on ubuntu with no luck there either. fails at exactly the same point
try to hard reset the phone it mite help
I used run as administrator and plugged the usb cable in different ports... I also uninstalled the htc sync software and just kept the drivers... the usb debugging thing is activated and the phone is in charge only...

Checked every thing, the cable, run as administrator but to no avail. I am stuck exactly where the most of HTC Wildfire 1.01.0002 bootloader people are stuck.
Use LINUX f*** windows.... It's so easy for LINUX and works!!!!
not 2 sure, but as far as i can remember downgrading hboot to 1.01.0001 from 1.01.0002 is not a problem via ruu, u might wanna try that. i used this one RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2_22_405_1_Radio_13_55_55_24H_3_35_20_10_release_160191_signed to upgrade from 0.8 and it worked without any problem.

did we mention that windows sucks such a development platform?
Yes try linux version. Not sure but i think it works.
And the key might be different for windows and linux versions. Pls check again.
HBOOT 1.001.0002 is NOT supported at the moment. IEF was helping me for 5 hours last night and eventually he downgraded me to 0001 and now I'm S OFF CM 7
He doesn't wanna release that long method though he said.

hmmmm.
I just do s-off with the wildfire of my father and I can not mine, both are 0002
All by using windows is realy easy.
S-OFF BY Alpharev
=====================================
STEP 1 : preparation
- download and Create key from http://alpharev.nl/x/beta/

INSTALL ROM
====================================================
now you follow this step to install custom roms like CM7 or other roms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130044
note :
on the step 2 you should select update = yes.
and before you install don't forget to "wipe data/factory reset"
and that install your rom
sorry for my english. i hope this help for you all
thanks for alpharev and CM7
I followed the instructions the first time, thanks. Its the 6th bullet point where it fails.
Apparently there are several versions of 1.01.0002 and this is why it isn't working.

Root
Yeah I'm on one of the newest 1.001.0002 HBOOTs and this doesn't work, actually tells me though that it's not compatible.
Oh well, at least progress IS being made..
I am attempting to root my HTC Panache (MyTouch 4G) with this guide.
The problem is with the first step which is installing adb and the USB driver. The guide referred to the cyanogenmod wiki on installing the android SDK. I believe that I followed all the instructions correctly but it does not show that my drivers are installed properly in windows device manager and CMD.

So here is the entire process that I took:
installed java sdk exe
downloaded Android SDK zip file and extracted to root C:\
opened SDK Manager
installed "Android SDK Platform-tools, revision 6" (revision 4 not available) and "Google USB Driver package, revision 4" packages in SDK manager
went into control panel > system > advanced settings > environment variables > double clicked "Path" > added ";C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools;C:\android-sdk-windows\tools"
downloaded and replaced the default "android_winusb.inf" file with the modified file from the cyanogenmod wiki
enabled "USB debugging" and ensured USB was in "charge only" mode in phone
opened CMD and typed in "adb devices", didn't show anything
opened windows device manager and found an "Android Phone" device with the yellow exclamation mark instead of "Unknown Device" with ADB listed under it as mentioned in the cyanogenmod wiki
right clicked and update driver software, clicked browse and located the "C:\android-sdk-windows\extras\google\usb_driver" folder with the modified .inf file
"Windows was unable to install your Android Phone"
I've been trying many things for hours so any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

No, I do not need to unlock it. The phone is from my carrier Mobilicity, but people referred me to use the Videotron HTC Panache guide (link to thread in OP) because it has a newer ROM version and making a gold card allows to "flash RUU files with a different CID to your own device - in other words, it allows you to flash files that were not made for your phone."
Basically, there was a back-to-school sale on the HTC Panache from Mobilicity and people who wanted to root (and unlock) it followed the guide above.
Please give me any suggestions, thanks!
Odin is not recognize by my phone since CM 10.1 been installen on my phone
Good day!
Since Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly been installed on my phone, Odin does not see the phone anymore even is the USB debugging is active on the phone. I am able to see the phone using the command ADB devices -l. I need Odin back because I want to put back the stock firmware on my phone which is Jelly Bean 4.1.2. from Virgin Mobile.
Can someone tell me why ADB can see my phone and not Odin?
Thank you!
Hi all,
I have a problem with updating my phone via the update cab sender.
My HD2 is on WP7 7392 now, so I need the wp7 update cab sender and the deviceprovicioning cab. Like this, right?:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then if I run the update cab sender.bat as administrator, and choose 'S', I get this error:
And if I don't run it as administrator but as normal, I get this error (and the same when I drag 'deviceprovisioning.cab' in 'WP7 Update Cab Sender'.
(Sorry it's in Dutch)
It's without typing or clicking on something, just opening 'WP7 Update Cab Sender'.
I also reflashed WP7 because I thought that that may help but after reflashing and updating through zune to 7392, I still have the same problems.
So can please someone help me or give me a tip or something. I need the mango update because in the Nehterlands WP7 is only supported since mango, so I can't use the marketplace with NoDo.
Thanks in advance.
i'm also having same problem...
please some one help us to solve this problem.....
and thanks to "jellenl" for creating this thread with details.
I assume you are running windows 7 on your desktop pc. Dont start it as Administrator as it will cause what you allready had. Just extract the tool to your desktop and add the .cab file you want to deploy in the same directory. Make sure you are not extracting the .pks files! They may look like zip files but they are not.
I don't know why the folder "If needed install this tool" is there. Get rid of it.

@jellenl
I to am experiencing a similar problem as listed in my post [Q] Update Error C00D070A There's a communication error with your phone.
I have received the same error on two machines, both W7P SP1 (64bit&32bit), can you tell me what operating systems and their basic configurations were? I can make a third attempt if needed.
Thanks -Airstream
for sending CAB to phone you can also use this app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315179
your phone should have the date and time as the computer has.and also,have you installed your x64 or x86 tool?
let us know if it helped at all.
also,screen always on,and zune not working
Thanks for the posts.
@dxdy
How would I use this utility to upload standard cabs (my phone has a standard rom and I have no interest in changing that), do I have to update the cabdata.xml file?
@florin_stann
My date and time is sync'd with the computer, x64 tool is insalled on 64bit machine, x86 tool installed on 32bit machine. Screen is set for 15 minutes and Zune process is terminated.
Thanks -Airstream
Problem Solved!
Taken from my thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22853654#post22853654
After manually backing up my data (there are automated tools you can use) I factory reset my phone and attempted an update to 7740 using the following tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315179 with a custom CabData.xml that I created for my phone (VZW Trophy). I updated my OS (7720) and Languages (English - United States (0409) and Spanish (0C0A), the two languages installed by the default) to 7740 successfully, and then updated OS and Languages to 8107 succesfully. After the update process I reseated my battery and factory reset the phone once again, and as expected the latest OS 7.10.8107.79 (8107) is still present on my phone.
It's important to note that I have a factory ROM and my phone already had it's firmware updated automatically (via Zune) to the levels noted in my original post. I believe the WP7 Update Cab Sender would have worked as well but preferred the slick interface wCabSender provided, thanks guys!
No thanks Verizon and HTC, a BIG Thanks to all at xda-developers!
