lost text sound - Epic 4G General

i use handcent... not sure when it started but my texts make no sound anymore. i vibrate, pop ups work, volume is maxed but i get nothing. checked settings, reinstalled handcent and rebooted the phone but nothing is working

What happens when you "test notification" from within the handcent settings?

all i get is the vibration and the screen notification. double checked that the ringer tone is selected

Strange, I use handcent and the only other thing I can think of is to make sure the stock messaging app is set to not notify you.

missed a stupid notification setting. they really need to integrate these better. need to check 3 different places to make sure everything is right

Yeah, that one has gotten me before. Oh well, the price to pay for a substantially better messaging app!

Sound notification problem

I posted this in the other sub thread but got no response so I thought I'd try here. I recently installed the palm threaded sms app. I love using this for text msging except for the fact that I get no sound or vibration when I recieve a new txt. I have checked the settings in the sound notifications and everything there has sound applied to it. Any help would be great. I want to continue using this program but won't be able to if I can't tell when I get a sms msg.
you should have a separate entry in the notifications list showing Text Message (Palm) or similar. You need to set this to the sound/vibrate you want. The only problem I've found is that none of the usual profile managers that allow you to switch between quiet/loud/normal/vibrate and such will change this notification as they are all hard-wired for the standard notification name only.
There is one for text msgs but no matter what I put there it doesn't give any kind of notification.
Edit: Found the one you were talking about I guess I just overlooked it testing it out now.

Messaging Notification -=- Hand cent

First of all I am rooted -=- already everything works fine for me only one thing I am having issues,, I installed Handcent…and made it my default TEXTING app
But I still get notifications from the messaging app that came pre installed
..
I did go to settings>I unchecked Auto retrieve and Notifications on the pre installed so
I won’t get it notification from the preinstalled app
It was doing good before the ROOT
But now I get both apps notifying me?
Can anyone give some advice?
To resolve this issue
yeah just go to the settings of the default txting app and turn off notifications there.
I did still get both notifications

1. The auto retrieve is for multimedia messages - if you leave it unchecked it will send you a message asking if you want to download it, then it will come to your phone (So, i'd probably re-enable that)
2. I doubt this will make a difference, so you can try to skip over the 3 if you want, but, you can try re-enabling the notifications, selecting the "silent" ringtone, and then disable the notifications again (just in case there was a bug about the notification box)
3. This is what most likely is the problem and I'm at work so I don't have time to test out all the combinations, but do you have another app that controls sounds (ringo, sms alert, etc.) that could be sounding an alert as well? Test out changing different alerts and txting yourself (either from your phone or set up a google voice account and send them quicker) and see what alert is really is that's notifying you besides handcent.
good luck, I'll check back after work!

thanks let me try a few combinations
What you have to do is first reset defaults for text messages under Samsungs text app. Now go to handcent and turn off notifications. Now next time you get text click the one notification you got. It should ask you what app you want to use to open it. Default it to handcent. You now only have one notification. It's a crappy workaround but its the only thing that works. You can try to uninstall twizmms but usually that causes more problems then it solves
If my ways don't work i'd say try psychoace's idea...it sounds like it'll work.
And I guess if ur like acjones you might want the auto retrieve off (maybe high schooler with lady friends...?) But for those of us without an issue its just an extra step, and has nothing to do with the notification tones
On a Vibrant, using this app-thingy

[Q] epic will not vibrate w/ new texts

when i have my phone on vibrate it does so with calls but not on texts even though i turned on the option under the settings for texts. i also tried audiomanager which doesnt seem to work either.
anyone else having this problem and is there a way to fix it?
Annoying as it is, the vibrate for incoming texts is controlled separately from the ringer volume. Meaning that if you turn on vibrate, it will always vibrate even if your phone isn't set to vibrate.
Menu -> Settings -> Vibrate from the text thread list.
My solution is to use the Tasker app to vibrate the phone when I receive a text on the condition that variable %SILENT = vibrate.
What I'm trying to say is that even when I go to settings and vibrate under text menu it doesn't vibrate on texts. I may give that app a try.

I started having this problem a few days ago and just solved it. I'm using Handcent for SMS, and even though my phone was set to vibrate, and Handcent notifications were set to vibrate, suddenly all of my notifications (Handcent and otherwise) stopped vibrating. Vibrate still worked on calls. I simply downloaded the free app "Sound Manager" from the Market and went to Vibrate from the Menu. For some reason Vibrate for Notifications was set to "Never". Not sure how, since I don't think there's a setting for this in the stock settings on the Epic, but I changed it and now vibrate works on all notifications again.
To me this is easier than setting something up in Tasker (though Tasker is way cool).
Sweet! Thanks so much its finally working now...

Please help, problem after 2.2 update

I updated my phone on kies mini to the KA6 update (2.2) and i am not rooted, and i am running stock android.
When i receive a text message my phone doesnt vibrate. I tried going to Messaging>menu>settings>notification settings and there is no option for vibrate, even in the ringtones.
I already have vibrate turned on in the main menu settings but it doesnt work for texting. please help
go to menu/settings/sounds/vibrate, set it to always ....
already tried that, its already set to "Always"
Do you have a third party Messaging app like Handcent, or SMS Popup? Not only do both of those offer great notification options, they have vibrate built in that you can customize.
Good luck.

No notification sound? (CM7)

I just recently freed my brother from a stock rom and set him up with CM7. He's loving it so far, except his notification founds are no longer working. I've checked all volume levels, made sure he's not using a notification sound that no longer exists. He only gets the vibration, but no sound. Also, if you select a notification noise, it plays the demo just fine, just not as an actual notification.
Any ideas what's causing this?
Did you check the i would assume texting app to make sure its not set to silent?

Yessir, i checked both the texting (stock cm7) notification and the email notification. both have sounds assigned and are at full volume.
So when is the notification NOT going off? IE for a text, email, message from a social app, ect.

I tested everything you mentioned, texts, mms, email, facebook, twitter. He uses AVG for antivirus and normally it'll chime after scanning a new/updated app. That's not happening either. It will, however, vibrate each time instead of a chime. Very odd.

Have you tried reflashing the rom? I've had that happen to me once, and that fixed it. And for sound not to be working is odd, most time its vibrations that gives people issues.
