[Q] Phonebook no longer works in the car - HD2 General

I have an HD2 and an Audi A4 (2007).
I connect the phone via bluetooth and it has been working well for the last year.
My office has just put email onto Exchange so I set this up on the phone to get my emails but now the phonebook doesn't work in the car - it connects fine but comes up no entries.
I'm wondering if it is due to outlook requiring me to have a keypad lock (which is also annoying)?
Any ideas as it is useful to have my email but not if it messes up everything else.

It sounds as though when they set up Exchange settings that they synced the e-mail, calendar and CONTACTS. So the contacts may have e-mail addresses but no phone numbers and any existing contacts were deleted.
The contacts in your computer's email program should now be the same as on your phone. Just add the missing contacts and any conacts without phone numbers.

Thanks for the advice fred_up, what seems odd is if I remove the car from the bluetooth list then re-establish the connection to the car it works fine.
But once I leave the car then go back it comes up no entries again!
I'll try unticking the contacts in the outlook sync settings to see if that does the trick.

I have a pioneer set in the car and with winmo the phonebook was working fine, but with my NANED Android it's not.
I'll be testing some other builds later this week to see if it's the build that i'm using or not.

Okay.. Got it working.. I needed to allow my pioneer to access my phone's addressbook

I have address book access set up on the car and the phone but still nothing. It actually came up yesterday then disappeared right before my eyes - how random!
Having tried everything I can think of I give up and am going to remove exchange, I'm fed up of the keypad lock it forces you to have anyway and I tried the registry tweak to remove that but as I'm no programmer couldn't get that to work either.
Thanks for your replies anyway.

Sync/Outlook & Bluetooth Voice Dialing?

Hi,
First I hope it’s alright to post this here.
I have been a windows mobile user for years, presently Verizon I760; I really would like to get the Incredible. I have two things that concern me. Any Information or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
1. Will I be able to get outlook and the phone to automatically sync contacts, and calendar (both ways) when I connect it with a usb cable?
2. Will I be able to voice dial with a Bluetooth headset?
I am a small business and normally sync to my work computer and my home laptop. I have no idea what exchange is or if that is an option for me.
Thank you advance for your help.
I am very much in the same boat as you as a long time Windows Mobile user (presently with the XV6900). There are several ways to do what you are asking but as of yet, in my opinion, none are great.
One is CompanionLink (companionlink.com/androidusb/ol-android-usb.html). While it does use a USB cable, it uses its own custom apps for calendar, contacts, and everything else. It is unclear to me at this point how big of an issue that is. For example, if you are trying to make a phone call and all the contacts were imported into this custom program, will it find them?
The next is Missing Sync (markspace.com/products/android/missing-sync-android.html). It does what we both want, importing the data right where it is supposed to go, but they aren't quite there yet. I have been watching this software for months and slowly they add features. For example they just recently added the ability to sync notes. They still don't let you sync Calendar as of yet.
Lastly the backup plan for me at the moment is using Google's own sync software so you will sync your calendar and contacts with Google's website automatically and your phone will get the info from Google. I am not a big fan of this as I don't particularly want my info online and I would rather it go straight to the phone if I happen to be going somewhere with no internet access. Like I couldn't sync my phone if I was abroad.
So, I am waiting for Missing Sync to get done and until then am planning on using Google's service.
As for Bluetooth dialing, I imagine so but I am not sure.
There is also HTC Sync
Deejx! You are my hero. I feel so happily dumb. The description on the HTC website says:
HTC Sync™ lets you synchronize Outlook and Windows Address Book (Outlook Express), contacts and calendar events on your PC with your phone. It also lets you install third-party Android applications on the phone, and the Mobile Network sharing function as well.
PERFECT! Thank you. Wow much better.
HTC Sync seems to be able to Sync Via the USB cable
How ever i ran into a program that syncs stright into Gmail itself.
You can find this and more on my blog http://techadminspot.blogspot.com/2010/04/getting-ready-for-htc-incredible.html
The software that syncs outlook with gmail is called CompanionLink http://www.companionlink.com/
Also Dropbox is working on a Android App to sync files.
No Bluetooth Voice Dial on Android
As far as voice dialing from your bluetooth, Android doesn't support that yet. There are several threads on Googles forum about this including this one: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1412
Hopefully they'll get it together soon.

lol not likely, it's been open since 2008
HTC sync won't work with Outlook 2010 64 .as of yet. You have to transfer your contacts and Calendar stuff to your gmail account. One way is to download a transfer program via 'trial', then transfer from gmail to phone using HTC sync. Can only verify for Win7 64 and Office 2010 64.

Evo Bluetooth Contacts/Address Book Transfer + BMW

I just wanted to take a moment and give back to the community that has always been there to help me out.
I drive a 2010 BMW 650i, which has bluetooth built into it. My Blackberry was able to transfer the contacts to the car so I could use the voice control of the car. When I got my Evo, for some reason the contacts wouldn't transfer to the car, or if they did, only 2 or 3 would transfer.
I finally deleted my Facebook account removed the sync account off my phone. Once I did that, my contacts synced to my car perfectly!
Just thought I'd post this on here to help out anyone who was having the same issue...
thanks! that worked like magic.
After deleting the Facebook account, every contact synchronized with my car. Whee!
Then I added the Facebook sync back to the phone and the contacts still sync.
Everything works as it should. Whee!
2009 BMW 335... HTC EVO with froyo. Yo!
I have a 2010 535i gt and have a weird issue. Only contacts with no photo assigned to the contact will sync. If I delete the contact picture, then no problem. I don't have a facebook account on the phone. Any ideas on how to fix it.
I drive a 1973 Gremlin and I have tried coutless times to get my contacts to sync...any thoughts?

It's all about ball bearings! You also need the updated Flux Capacitor ver 2.2 with the BT Stack. BT obviously meaning Broken TieRod.

Right on!!!
I love the 650i looks so sexy in black. Have you tried looking on the BMW bluetooth section of their website?

It's not just android/BMW... have the same exact issue with Windows Mobile 6.5 and Infiniti. I validated by completing a full sync after removing all photos from contacts. I later tried to resynch the photos to my phone from an online backup (myphone) and it deleted all of the photos from my online backup!! Pain in the ass!
I have an M3 and it also does the same with my Evo. Connects and drops and connects and drops all the time with the car's bluetooth. Only 2 contacts transferred over. I will try the facebook delete option and see how that works out.

Doesn't work on Evo 3D and 2006 BMW 530xi

[Q] Contacts: Google or Mobile?

Hi,
When my BT connection with the carkit still worked (see threath ' BT problems') I noticed that my contacts were displayed more then one time with the same phonenumber.
Looking in Contacts on the DHD I can see that the information inthere contains 'Google' and 'Mobile'. Probably the Googlesync and the Outlooksync.
Which one do you guys use and why.
Problem is that I want to use the sync on my pc between Googlecontacts and Outlook so I don't have to change or add things twice, but I only need one contact on my phone
Thanx!
Leon
Hi,
Well from what I know is that if you use google contacts it uploads and syncs your contacts to your google account where as with the normal phone contacts it stays on your phone unless you have a HTC Sence account which syncs them to their site.
Hope that helps a bit.
~Sean
Okay, Thanx. I do have a Sense account, but somehow they also stay on my DHD, while I only checked the Google-box.

[Q] People/Contacts app sync & bluetooth problem

Hi,
I exetensively searched XDA and google for a solution to this, but while finding solutions to problems which are close to my problem, I couldn't find quite what I'm looking for, so be aware at first this might seem like a question that has already been asked, but please keep reading since this is really something different.
I have the following problem with my Desire Z which I have for 2 days now:
In my Gmail account (which is in fact a hosted apps account), I have like probably most of you a "All Contacts" group and a "My Contacts" group.
I use the My Contacts group for all my contacts which I maintain with correct information like name, last name, phone, etc. The "All Contacts" group is auto-updated by Gmail and contains each and every contact that I have ever sent or received an email from/to.
The difference is that my "All Contacts" contains 497 records, while my "My Contacts" group only contains 127 record, suffice it to say I don't want the "All Contacts" group anywhere near/on my phone.
Off course I've found out by now that using the menu button in the 'People' app and going to 'View' brings up a window where I can nicely select which groups I want to see and which ones I don't.
The problem, however, is that this setting only affects what is being shown, and even when turning off "(Ungrouped Contacts)", while effectively hiding these contacts, they are still in the phone, and worst of all : still synced to my Bluetooth carkit.
This causes huge problems with my carkit, probably because either there are weird characters in one or more of the records, or because there are just too many of them.
This is off course not just a wild guess, but a conclusion I have drawn after performing some tests:
I tested this with 2 carkits : My own Dodge Ram 2009 MyGig system, and my dad's Audi S5 Audi MMI (Multimedia Interface) system.
Tests were performed with 4 phones:
- Tmobile G1/HTC Dream running CM6.1 (stock android contacts.apk)
- Moto Milestone running CM6.1 (stock android contacts.apk)
- Samsung Galaxy S I9000 running stock ROM (TouchWiz contacts.apk)
- HTC Desire Z running stock ROM (HTC Sense contacts.apk)
For all 4 phones I connected them to the 2 carkits and enabled logcat while doing this. The logcat log effectively showed me that the CM6.1 phones were only syncing the 'right' contacts, while the 2 other phones (both using non-stock contacts.apk) were sending all the other **** to the carkit as well.
These tests lead me to conclude that apparently it's very hard to make a decent custom contacts.apk, because 2 independant manufacturers both screwed it up at the same point.
From where I stand I can see 3 possible solutions/workarounds to get this working correctly on my Dezire Z:
- Replace contacts.apk with stock one
- Flash CM6.1 on there
- Clean up 'all contacts' group in gmail account.
Normally I wouldn't hesitate to just fire up CM6.1 on there, but I really like the HTC sense web controll thingy, so I want to stick with the stock ROM for a while, or until Cyanogen comes with a ROM that includes this. (not yet AFAIK)
Cleaning up 497 contacts is really something I want to keep as a last resort.
So the only remaining option is to put a stock contacts.apk on there.
Can this be done, and if so, how?
Or are there possibly other ways around this which I'm failing to see?
I think this thread will soon get moved to the General forum, since it's not ROM development
I've got a very similar problem with the one you describe above. I found a load of garbage being sync'd via Bluetooth to my car stereo too. As well as my regular contacts, there were a massive load of blank ones (which I've now discovered were hiding in my "Other Contacts" section in Gmail, and got sync'd to my phone, and hence sync'd also to my car stereo).
I also found it sync'd all my Facebook contacts via Bluetooth, which isn't what I wanted at all. I ended up deleting all those manually on the car
Thanks for the reply Stevewevie, good to know I'm not the only one with this problem.
Some car kits seem to be able to cope with this better than others.
For example my dad's Audi MMI will not work at all with my Desire Z, while my Dodge's MyGig will connect, but sometimes break up during a call, not syncing contacts, and other weird stuff.
What I was going to look into was a solution that might work for you too, i.e. a way to send via Bluetooth a group of contacts. I can't yet find any way to do this in the stock ROM though, and I haven't searched to see if there are other Android utilities that could do this.
I've got around my problem for now, but if I lose the address book in my car stereo I'll be faced with the same problem again. Or if I need to do a big update.

The Dodge MyGig syncs everytime my phone connects, and sometimes it seems to workout while other times it doesn't work.
So for me it's a gamble everytime I start my car.

[Q] Bluetooth sync phonebook with car - contacts missing. Ideas?

When syncing my contacts (202) with my car, only 45 where synced.
Contacts with e-mail address were skipped.
But I don't want to delete the e-mail address on all my contacts.
Phone:
HTC HD2 with NexusHD2 2.1 Gingerbread (Android 2.3.1, tytung_r2 kernel)
Car bluetooth:
VW Premium UMTS Upgrade Kit Handsfree Profile
Anyone had the same issues and knows a solution?
Is there any way to debug this?
Already tried to have a look on the log with aLogCat App, but didn't find anything interesting about bluetooth.
EDIT: Same with postal address...
Nobody got any idea?

I can choose which ones to take, sim or phone or both. I chose both.
I wonder if there could be any filter, not to synchronize the postal address + mail address...
