How do you remove ringtones and demos that come with mytouch 4g. I tried to get clips of info on other threads. I got titanium backup app and don't know where to begin. Thx In advanced
Would like to know too. Don't need Rock Band or things like that. Plus the audio files from the games show up under my music, pretty annoying.

With Titanium, you click the Backup/Restore 'tab' and press on an app/game - press 'Freeze'...

The next level, so to speak, would be moving to a cleaned-up ROM like Ice Glacier. I am torn when it comes to recommending rooting devices, etc. There are a lot of benefits to rooting your device and philosophically speaking, it's a "must" for me. There are many pitfalls though, so the best advice I can give is to read, search, read and then read, search, read, search some more. It's actually very easy to root the HTC Glacier, but that's relatively speaking. My mom might not think it's that simple.
A ROM like Ice Glacier is basically your phone as it is right now, with all of the bloatware removed. That's a very condensed description of it, but it's a very stable, fast ROM and IMHO, it's what your phone "should've been." Just read and do your research. There are a lot of benefits to heading down the root road, but there are also a lot of people out here that seem to think, "I like need Gingerbread on my phone right now," but they don't even know why.
Ringtones
Now is there a way to get the installed ringtones removed like the other guy it shows up when placing a ringtone for contacts
Or find the iced glacier ROM. It's a clean Rom.

"Removing the bloat apps requires s=off. No way around that. You can get s=off then use Root Explorer as I did to perm remove the bloat apps. They are under /system/app. In Root Explorer, Mount as R/W"
Just be forewarned, This method will permanently delete!! Do a backup first!

As a side note, I froze my apps using TB. I just offered a way to perm remove them since someone asked. I should have edited my post to note that.

First off, great work by everybody on all these roms. The Hero has become a much better phone because of this community. My problem is that I've become addicted to flashing all the new roms and hate restoring everything from scratch. I've tried Titanium Backup but I don't know what settings to use that will get me the best restoration when I set up a new rom. Also, I may be incorrect, but it seems like apps restored from TB will not update in the market. What do you guys recommend?

You can purchase the full version of Titanium Backup to enable Market links to show in the Downloads section of the market. There is an option to donate and get the full version in the free app.
If you don't want to purchase the full version then you could use Apps2SD to keep all your apps in place and use 'SMS Backup & Restore' for free in the market to copy all your texts and restore them to the phone once you finish flashing a new ROM. It doesn't do MMS, but there might be other apps for that in the market that will.
Thanks for the input. Which option is the safest in TB? I bought the paid version and I'd like to do a backup but don't want to mess anything up.
id say the best backup for the entire system including apps is nandroid + ext backup using recovery.
You may be interested to know that I'm building this in to fresh kitchen. Currently you can backup all of your applications, and then also your texts, dictionary, and scenes.
The next release will also do contacts, browser settings, and just a slew of general phone options.
It all gets stored on your computer and can easily be pushed back to your phone after a restore.

sounds like a great feature Flipz. Using these features in your kitchen is the only reason i am still looking forward to the official rom release.
Flipz kitchen looks like the better solution. didn't know all those features were built into it. too bad I'm on a MAC, otherwise I would be using that.

Don't think you need to start a new thread for every question just ask in the last one you started.Don't mean that in bad way just tryin to help.
Also the kitchen has built in help and it tells you exactly what to do. If sendkeys is failing it will link you to the download to get it. It tells you that if you can't install it for any reason then to just use cmd.

There was a pop up message waiting for you to acknowledge it. It may have been hidden. I wouldn't recommend trying to rush through as you are trying to leave though.
This guy has been over on androidforums.com and we have tried to help him there too. He asks the same thing over and over in multiple threads over there as well. Not sure what the deal is . We've pointed him in the direction for rooting and everything on it, even told him to read and research etc.

You don't have to apologies. I think a lot of people are worried, and new to the scene. But I do suggest taking your time and the advice everyone is giving you. There are a lot of good guides/tutorials out there, you just have to read them. Take your time and read. Do not rush it, as that is what causes problems.

Boot back into the recovery.. do restore nand. You'll have your stuff back..
As far as your contacts go, you should be using a google account to store them... That way, when you flash a new rom, you wont have to enter in your contacts every time... Even if this is the sole purpose of your google account.. its worth it.

Because if you put some widgets on it it becomes slow, not like LauncherPro. I don't have sense i'm on Froyo (Defrost 1.4). I restored with it with Rom-Manager.

If i want test it on my custom rom based on sense, after how can i restore the sense?

If you don't like it, it is very easy to remove. I like it. Takes a bit of organising to get it to look how you want it o.

I actually get FC's in browser on certain websites. Thought it as rom-problem, but perhaps not.

i have mt4g. I found a video describing how to root this phone with visionary r11. Only problem is I CANNOT FIND r11. ONLY r14. Someone please direct me in the right direction so i can get this thing rooted and start overclocking!!!!

because people have been having probs with v14 while i have yet to see one with v11.
I literally just rooted my phone 5 mins ago using both grankin's guide and mackster's youtube video. They are essentially exactly the same thing.
Now after I loaded the root script in terminal emulator and booted to bootloader I was showing S=off but still unable to get any su command to stick. I followed grankin's guide to a T including the extra steps on the very bottom of the post about waiting 30-60 minutes for cache delay write. If you don't understand what's in the guide - you have no business rooting your phone.
Step 1: Read.
Step 2: Read.
Step 3: Install ADB.
Step 4: Understand that if you screw up your phone it is no one'd fault but you.
Step 5: Download all files needed in that guide. (That may be harder than you think)
Step 6: Follow that guide VERY carefully and copy/paste to avoid errors.
Jack_R1 wasn't being a jerk. He was stating a simple fact. If you can't follow instructions it would be better for you not to unleash the power of superuser access. Its kept from the standard user for a reason.
I agree with previous posters, don't do anything until you understand what you are doing from start to finish cause you may not have the option to quit in the middle if you get confused.

I had my phone for 3 months, doing nothing but reading and more reading before I finally decided to root. Be patient and just READ EVERYTHING, more than once at that. Youll eventually burn all that info into your brain and itll become second nature soon enough
