[Q] Stock DK28? - Epic 4G General

Hello, I am looking for the completely stock (non-extended) DK28 ROM.
I had searched and gone on the wiki, but the one on the wiki gave me an .md5 file that Odin wouldn't flash giving me the following error...
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> MD5 hash value is invalid
<OSM> SPH-D700-DK28-8Gb-REL.tar.md5 is invalid.
<OSM> End...

I had attempted using the extended version from this link but adb wouldn't recognize the device while trying to set myself up for EXT4 support.
I had followed the instructions for EXT4 support to no avail, so I decided to watch the YouTube tutorial where the man recommended using the stock DK28 rom. And this brings me to where I am now. No (functional) DK28 ROM to work with. Hopefully somewhere here can point me in the right direction and get me on my way?
Thank you.

Just delete .md5 off the end. Just did the same thing today and had the same error. Just delete the .md5 extension off the end of the filename so that it ends in .tar and it will flash fine.

ACS Stock DK28 ROM not sure if it has support for ext4 file system though.

Windows 7 isn't allowing me to, but I had thought of that also. I don't know why it won't let me.

Alright, thank you. I will try it.
-EDIT-
I was stupid and forgot that there was a Windows option to show full file extensions for known filetypes. It works now.

The only rom I know that supports the ext4 system is the quantum rom found here though I won't lie that I have only started reading about ext4 switching about an hour ago and as my preferred rom doesn't support it yet I don't know a whole lot. Good luck though!

Ya, I prefer Nebula ROM. But I've heard this does wonders for the speed of the system.
It's really just me trying new things on. Haha.

lol I did that last week...was on CM nightlies almost the whole week but I got tired of the lack of basic features (not blaming anyone its a prebeta) so I switched. I was planning on trying a few roms but the first one I tried was Nebula and I immediately fell in love. ****ing beautiful.

I agree. It has the right amount of flare without hindering performance, it's quite lovely. Currently I'll be trying out Quantum but maybe midNIGHT in the future.

Let me know what you think. I'm too much in love with nebula to try anything else lol

Sent from my Epic 4g running Nebula Rom

Nothing too impressive to report so far. Obviously these ROMs aren't fully customized and so they aren't all too attractive. But I do have to say that the system feels a good deal faster.
Here's to hoping plapczyn will make a version of Nebula that is ext4 supported.

I believe he has one in the works. =D

I have been running Quantum and haven't noticed any eye popping glaring speed up with EXT4. Was running stock DK28 extended prior to Quantum and was having multiple problems with that rom that Quantum has fixed. Maybe I am missing something, but everything seems about the same with the file system, maybe a little bit quicker.

Ya, the reports I'm reading about increase in speed are varying. Maybe it's just different based on what the person thinks is fast? I don't know. It just feels faster than the normal stock.
But I'm going back to Nebula. I miss it.

[ROM][SenseUI] Rooted Android 1.5 v1 11/08/10

Well for those of you who want it, here is stock 1.5 from the MR2 with the following changes:
Superuser
Bash/Nano
BusyBox
Deodexed
Zipaligned
Rooted Android 1.5 v1
http://www.multiupload.com/2MX3IUX3G4
Now does anyone know how to OC 1.5? Every kernel I tried kills the touchscreen and everything else.
Change Log:
v1:
Initial Release
Not working:
Overclock (hopefully this is possible)
s10onn2o is looking into it for me, and I'm trying some things myself.
Well, 1.5 used a 2.6.27 kernel. I don't believe anyone ever made an OC version of .27. If you've tried OC'd .29 kernels and they didn't work... I would think that the only option is to either just not have an OC kernel or make a .27 one. Here's one of the best posts I've ever read on just about anything. Read that. Read it again. I've read it at least 3 times, and I feel the need to read it again. Heck, I don't know. The patches might even work on the old kernel source. Someone with more knowledge than me might know. Or you could just try it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=679102
I'd love for someone to take the time to OC the .27 kernel, and I'd use it in Retro1.

It's very technical for sure. If the thread dies, it can sit beside Retro1! Thanks for the work on this. Just keep on having fun and learning new stuff and passing it on. No biggie. I still go back to Retro1 every so often. Stock 1.5 is actually nice and stable and responsive. It just works. No bells and whistles, for sure. But it works and works well.

Okay so i think i might be able to patch the .27 kernel to OC, but it needs a desirec_defconfig file. I have one from the .29 source code, but would I even be to port it over to the .27? Or should I not even try?

There's a file under the AB folder called 'config-eris.2.6.27'. That's a .config file from a .27 Eris kernel. You can just grab that file without actually running Android Builder if you just want the .config.

So could I say take a zimage from say setiron's kernel and place it into a i9000 rom? Then just flash that zip file one time and have my i9000 rom with Cappy kernel all in one flash? I already know how to swap out modem.bin files just need to know about the kernels.

they're all awesome.
They are all (mostly) stable.
Try one on and see how it fits.
If you don't like it, flash another. It's not too terribly addicting.
It all depends on what you are looking for. Me personally I like the Frankenstein rom but I had radio issues and switched to the midnight rom and it runs very well.

Why do questions like this even get asked? If there were ROMs that were inferior in every way, such that preference had no bearing... they wouldn't be on the first page or two of the forum.
You are going to have a favorite. Go start trying stuff like everyone else did.
Like I've said a million times that this question was asked. What works for others might not work for you. Flash to you find one you like
Sent From Da Hood.
When I first started flashing I had the same questions and it is nice to be pushed in the right direction. Which gain it is all personal preference. Some roms run better than others but then some roms have the theming that some people are looking for. So my suggestion is read through some of them and the change logs look at some of the screenshots in the threads and flash it if you like what you see. Once you have flashed a couple times you won't hesitate to do it again and again and again to try the different ones there are. I think I have tried 7 or 8 different roms on my epic and 7 or 8 when I had my evo and I was constantly switching from one to the next to the next back to one I had previously and so on depending on the updates that had been applied and the different changes that were made. So try them all then go back to what you like. When you have found what you like stick with it until another version comes out with an update try it and see if you like it. It does get a little bit addicting. It is very hard to brick an epic because of the capabilities of flashing back using odin. So don't hesitate in flashing as many as you like.
Thanks everyone, I'll start trying some tonight.
Edit: ok I found one that looks promising but I have no idea how these modem things work. I never had to do that to install roms on my hero. Anyway, how do I install a modem?

I'd be interested to see how different it is. I liked your last version for the most part, but boot up time was way too long. Would be nice to see the additional apps/add-ons included so they don't have to be installed individually (or maybe provide them as a pack somehow?) In general, it's a great ROM though.

[Q] Where can I find official T-MO MT3G Froyo kernel?

Hi, as the topic states, does anyone know where i can download one and flash? my setup on my sig is current.
thanks
So you're trying to run the official kernel with a custom ROM? Why?
why not? and what prevents me from running an official kernel? to OC and drain my batteries? other than that, what else?
edit/
what may keep me from using an official kernel is the 15MB additional ram. however i was under the impression that if I had radio 2.22.27.08, and H-Boot 1.33.0013(d), it doesnt limit me from using any of the froyo kernels floating around. if im incorrect with my assumptions, can someone enlighten me?

Because you can't OC is probably the main reason. The only other one I can think of is the random battery drain that some kernels experience.
On the plus side I can think of stability and battery life. Knock yourself out, I'm sure someone can post it for you.
I have the zip file for the 2.2 OTA but I have no idea where to find the kernel.

IMO, the current ROm im using (TheOfficial) is working wonderfully. I care less about overclocking since I don't play games and dont find the need for the applications I use to be overclocked. Also the UI response on the ROM is incredible.
You are right, until the other ROMs iron out the random battery drain, which I have experiences in both CM7 and pershoot kernels, i wont be using them because i do not like having to restart the phone every time after i charge. ezterry's current kernel always gives me the green screen. however, ez's older kernel doesn't, but I prefer running the latest unmodified kernel.
I'm satisfied using a non-oc kernel and would rather set the mim clock freq. to ~177.
Makes sense. If you can figure out how to extract the kernel from that zip I linked you to, you should have your kernel.

I hit a brick wall. I guess i'll just stick with ezBiffTestKernel20101106-2708_S based on kernel 2.6.34.7. It's a bit old but it will suffice until i figure it out. At least I don't have to reboot every time I pull from the USB charger.

Actually there might be a legal copyright issue with distributing oem kernels in custom ROMs. I don't know for sure though.
Shouldn't been since the kernel code is open source, but I'm not sure either. I did find a guide to extracting kernel's from ROM's but it requires that you are either running Linux or are running Linux in a virtual environment.

The official kernel is meant to go with 0013 and 28.25 so yes, you should still have the additional RAM, which this phone desperately needs.

I've been trying to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667923 but none of the android-dls.com links work

Guide on ROM ratings?

I remember seeing a guide awhlile back with ratings of each ROM, how it rates on visuals, battery life, etc and overall. Ive been on the latest Trigger for a couple of months now and would like to try a Gingerbread ROM. Im trying to find out which one is most stable with all features that Trigger has.
the only way is to flash them and try. but each GB has problems and so you'll have to figure out which problems you can live with and which you can't.

I run CM7 right now and like it, but you should know your way around how to Odin, how to use adb and shell stuff, and how to make sire partitions are formatted through cwm.
As for the Samsung gb roms, I haven't touched them.

To be honest CM7 nightlies are no more difficult than any other ROM. Knowing how to Odin for sure but that's if you have problems or want to come back to a pre-GB ROM. And if you do any kind of messing with ROMs you should know how to Odin anyway. I've never had to use adb or anything shell related outside of my own tinkering just to learn more.
Although right now I believe the CM7 nightly builds after #8 have call audio issues. I don't know if that has been fixed yet.
There's no way to have a definitive source for ROM comparisons because no matter what, it's going to come down to personal preference and your device.
However, the fun is in flashing and trying new stuff. For the most part, ROMs will have screenshots associated with the ROM thread.
Just go flash happy as long as you are familiar with Odin.
