Need even MORE eye candy! - G2 and Desire Z General

Since I've had my DZ I have been mildly impressed with the fade-out effect when closing applications, compared to what I had on my old Desire. I'm also now running ADW EX Launcher and the transition effects it provides when moving from homescreen to homescreen are nothing short of awesome!
As well as knowing my phone's OS is technically advanced compared to others (iOS, WP7), I'm really looking now to make everything about it as beautiful, slick, futuristic and flashy as possible.I want iPhone/WP7 owners to pick up my phone and go "WOW!" Any suggestions?
EDIT: I'm looking for widgets, apps and modifications that will take my phone to the next level.

I want this Surfcube Browser on Android...

You can try some live wallpapers, such as the fish tank and there area bunch of matrix wallpapers.

Yeah, live wallpapers are good - definitely something that iOS and WP7 can't do.
I've been browsing around the other forums and I think I just need some nice animations, along these lines
Perhaps I need to go and hassle some ROM chefs to add some of that stuff into their Sense ROMs.
Any other suggestions? I'm quite missing my Sense widgets (cos I'm using a replacement launcher).

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814072
Check out that thread and it will really add some eye candy to your phone. The transitions can be applied through metamorph. Just make sure the transitions.xml file is there and apply it and the transitions should be working, may require a reboot though.

To be really really honest, I'd rather have no transition effects at all and have the thing open the next screen in 0.0000001 milliseconds then to have fancy shamcy transitions and have it delay like 2 seconds or 3 seconds for it to go to the next screen.
I mean, we are not exactly in elementary school anymore where we are all impressed with fancy transitions on the phone and on power points...

Speak for yourself my friend, but I AM impressed with fancy shmancy transitions
Isn't it great that Android can accommodate us both!
And despite my phone being no slouch, until it really CAN open apps instantaneously, I'd rather kill that 0.25sec with something nice to look at, than a briefly blank screen.

its kinda ugly in my opinion
I'd personally like to see one.
i dont think anyone cares.. I think its kinda ugly.. the phones ugly too..
the only cool thing is that you can move the icons anywhere you want.. other than that.. its meh..
why not judge the final product when it's done, not in the state it's currently in...
pff, already looks much better that any wm6 version i ever saw even with interfaces like mannilla 2d winterface pointui spb ms wad 3 ore anything like that!
Hey,
I would also like to see an Android Skin.
I like it, and its really nicer than WM, it looks like a fingerTouchOS.
Maybe we'll get a skin anytime.

Cant be too hard to skin in Throttle Launcher, especially since the next version will support scrolling both vertically and horizontally and with support of panels and on screen object movement.

what i think was meant by the TL post is that the new version is going to have moveable widgets.
and honestly .. the way we do the skinning, application dev and hacking, and everything else is done around here..
we can do it.
the device thus far imo looks like a piece o chit!
the device is ugly and the skin itself is just a white topbar, a wallpaper and some icons, can be done with every app here.
Here is my skinned Android. Hope you like it!
egz whats the batt life on it?
I'd like to put here on snooze!
what i like to see now is some Android inspired apps.. i'm quite sick now of pseudo-iPhone apps (well, excluding A_Cs S2 lineup that is)..
how about an application such like the Android drop down notifications.. it's totally replace the bubble notification icon when you have more than 1 notification.. and it's easier to access than pressing that darn icon on the topbar..
it's pretty handy, if you ask me.. i hope someone develops something like that..
here's a video demo of what i am talking about..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hy-YcGNyJds
I'm a big for on Android (I just ordered my G1 from T-Mobile), but I odn't think there's much to the user interface. The Standard interface can be completely customized so I'm sure we'll see quite a few variations once people actualy get their hands on it. Personally, I'd like to see a TouchFLO 3D type of interface on Andoid which will give access to a lot more information than simply having a desktop with a few widgets and icons on it.
If you're really interested in creating somehting like this, my suggestino would be to do it with Wisbar Advance Desktop. You can quite easily create the look, but it might feel a bit static since it's hard go get thing animated with it.
I believe this is a better Android Skin...!!!!
Better than to have just a simple skin of Android, would be to have the complete OS in our HTC devices!
That would be nice!hope someone is working on that
Cheers
Once they release the source to Android in October and more devices start coming out, I think Android is going to be hard to beat. I bet people will start skinning it right away. It has so much potential.
Almost all that android (the one in the first post ) does will be possible to do with next version of ThrottleLauncher:
- Scrolling footer.
- Widgets.
- Scrolling programs.
- Scrolling contacts.
I don't know if a miss something .
I plan to end a private beta during this week, and it the beta testing goes allright I plan to release it as "unstable build" publically so pleople can start messing with the new features .
I look forward an android skin too . When I'm ended developing this new release I'll gladly help anyone trying to develop a theme for throttle.

What would you do if you had an opportunity to show off the power of Android?

Like the title says, I'm interested in what you guys consider a feature worth showing off!

Voice to text and in the UI in general i.e. the ability to add widgets and customize the launcher. After showing my EVO to a new iPhone 4 owner last night, all she had to say was: "why would anyone want an iPhone when they could have one of those?" I said, "you know, that is a really good question." Priceless!

Google voice, show them real visual voicemail; widgets, show them important stuff without even opening an app; flash, show them the full web experience; live wallpaper, It's a battery hog for most things, but still really cool; replacements for all normal features, handcent, t9 dialer, different keyboard (like swipe).
There's loads of things you can showcase.
I would load some porn apps, since android is for porn right?

Yes they could. It's always a grid from top left (except the dock), but you can rearrange them or move them to a different screen. It's been that way since iOS 1

The icons I found from this post from XDA. (thank you XDA user mikebeecham)
The background is from AndroidCentral. I typically roll black... always come back to this.
The ROM is Onyx 2.1 via Team Whiskey (leaked 2.2).
The 1x1 weather widget is Beautiful Widgets (I really do not like the 4x2 style).
I only have ONE screen... LP lets you have 15 icons at the bottom, that have swype gestures so there are really 30 apps I can open with nothing on my desktop and not opening the app drawer.
I find myself chocked full of lameness, in the sense that I rarely deviate from stock. About the only areas where I bother to customize is wallpapers and ringtones, though I have a massive collection of both courtesy of Ringdroid and Google image search.
And even there it seems that I tend to think a bit narrowly. Most all of my wallpapers are either artwork of Audrey Kawasaki or Sumi Keiichi.
Currently running TW's Obsidian v2...Heck, even my screen layout and icon positions have become a matter of course. I've kept my screen layout pretty much identical since July regardless of firmware.
I r the suk

I would...but it's actually REALLY A LOT LOL.
Furthermore it's stuff that is too easy to find if you understand how to use Google's Image search. Though wallpapers in our screen's native format are harder to come by (960x800), the aspect ratio of 1280x1024 traditional desktop wallpapers is nearly identical (1.2, compared to 1.25). An app like Wallpaper Set And Save will fit these with no discernible distortion.
In other words, I'm so lazy that I do not break out Irfanview and Gimp to custom resize, I just use backgrounds optimized for the 1280x1024 desktop resolution. Making that one change though opens up a world of millions of wallpapers to those like me who would rather look for new and interesting stuff than spend all day in image editing software resizing things....
Lazy I be.
Makes a lot of sense actually, thanks. Never really understood the point of those apps.

Xperia Arc Home (Runs great, no force closes!)

Thanks to an XDA user named Lef.teris here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970643&page=1, the system dump for the Sony Xperia Arc has been posted. Another user named Paolo599 ripped the home launcher (called Sony Ericsson Home)... this can be found:
http://www.multiupload.com/2YETWLF218
I've been using it for the last 20 minutes with no force closes. Sony decoupled it's launcher with it's Time and Mediascape apps, so I'm guessing this is why it's relatively pain free to use.
Try it out, it's very cool. You can drag and drop apps into the dockbar and it has a folder management system FOR the dockbar. 5 screens. Very clean looking. It's app drawer also has "pages" as well. Only thing I see wrong is that it's made for slightly bigger phones because the dock text is cut off.
Lemme know how you like it. I don't know if the demand is there, but I'm sure if the home works this good- all we need to grab is the walls and the sounds and we can transform the look of our Vibrant's pretty fast.

Nice, got any screenshots?
Of it in action on my phone? No. But this is what it generally looks like minus the widgets and the dock text (it's made for higher res phones) http://topnews.net.nz/images/sony-ericsson-xperia-arc-01.jpg
That's pretty clean.. I like the silver battery mod.
Pretty cool, always nice to have new options. It does look a little cut off at the bottom though.
Well, according to the Arc section- Sony has made everything in the launcher open source to distribute and mod so maybe someone can mess with the resolution?
Maybe a full on port?
In the short time you've been using it did you notice any selling points of the launcher beyond the look of it?

The bottom doesn't line up because the Arc has a higher resolution than our phones. A dev is going to have to mess with it if they want it to be perfect.

[APP] FlipFeeds: Flipboard 'esq reader for all Android Devices. Complete it?

Hi all,
I have been working on an HTML5 based reader similar to Flipboard that would work in Android, iPad, Windows 8, etc. However, with news that Flipboard will be releasing to Android this year, I'm debating on if it's worth my time to finish. A few things of note:
It's powered by google reader
It actually has a better image grabbing engine that FB for image detection
Around 32 page layouts thus far
Scales areas and fonts dynamically to fit any resolution tablet/screen
Grabs the first few pages, then keeps going in the background for quick start

What do you think? Should I put the time in to finish it for everyone?
Thanks,
B.
I think if u can manage to create and page transition effect that makes flipping through them as exciting as it is on Flipboard then ur App will sell itself....i don't see that on your video.... it's laying out new nicely though.
try to focus on visuals and gestures.

Yea, it's complete alpha stages right now. I don't even have the code in for viewing an article. I won't be taking the exact FB effect, but was planning on making a swipe effect of some kind, but don't want to spend the million hours finishing this out if everyone says "Why bother, we'll use FlipBoard."
Thanks,
B.
Put in mind that Flipboard announced that the company will release the app only for chosen devices ....so if your app suits older less powered devices and have some cool features that are optimized for smooth browsing and doesn't consume battery ...then i think u should work on it and don't give up .
second of all you should know by now people lke to try out new apps every now and then ...we get bored fast my friend
good luck developing ..but if u loose interest then it's also ok .....maybe u will come up with something even better

Yea, now that the APK is out I'm seeing that Flipboard is working fine on older devices, I think I'll hold off. While I'm happy to continue building this, I don't see much point unless Flipboard doesn't come out tablet optimized. Happy to give people another option, but I only have a limited amount of time, and could never compete with the feature list that FB provides.
Thanks,
B.
