Use social media to stick it to sprint and samsung - Epic 4G General

Pissed off about the 2.2 delays? Yeah me too.
DK28 not stable enough for you? Yeah me too.
Have had it with neither firm taking responsibility or communicating the status of the project? Yeah me too.
Take action:
Comment on: https://www.facebook.com/sprint and tell their social marketing team that you want an answer, an eta, a statement of responsibility. Hit them up at http://twitter.com/sprint too.
Or even: http://investors.sprint.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=127149&p=irol-contact
Do the same for https://www.facebook.com/SamsungMobile
Both firms are more likely to see your voice and respond to it then they would trolling the xda forums.
Do the same for https://twitter.com/samsungmobileus
Or even: https://contactus.samsung.com/customer/contactus/formmail/mail/MailQuestionGeneral.jsp?SITE_ID=76&PROD_ID=2088

I like this idea. I'll be bugging them as soon as I get home from work.

Hey guys, this is my first post and I'm a long time reader, so bear with me . Anyways, I toyally agree with you except, I just got off of the phone with samsung and according to the lady 2.2.1 was already released to sprint on the 17th of december. So if she is correct, it would be way more effective to call sprint instead because they are the ones with the ball in their court now (IMO). Yeah, samsung took long, but I think we must now pressure the carriers bcause it WAS already released to them (idk about AT&T) and that's maybe why the galaxy s phones were listed as 2.2 on Sammy's website. The sounded like she thought we had it by now, but maybe she's just... DUMB? Again I may be totally wrong about all of this sooo.... that's just my current thoughts on the update drama.
*edit: but hey, I guess it wouldn't hurt to talk to samsung while you're at it xD

The strategy here is not to directly go to one or the other but to both in hopes that one will pressure the other to make a statement or take direct responsibility.
Although I am glad that this is the case and we now have an official statement from Samsung.

Well what are the chances they will respond to that kind of language? Come one now. How can they respect the vocabulary of a middle schooler lacking in eloquence?

I've posted on all of the links twice now and even added @SamsungService to my tweets. Its odd. I hate twitter and I've refused to tweet after trying it once but if to get these corporations to respond to our community I must break my personal ban then I'll install the damn app on my phone.

Don't forget to hassle http://twitter.com/GalaxySsupport too.

Added to my harrass list. Will note however that I doubt this will bring about anything. They could care less how we the minority of users savvy enough to know the difference feel. They've sold near 10 million SGS phones.

Personally I think they should have froyo out a long time ago, HOWEVER if it's unstable, why release it? DK28 is close to stable but not for prime time. I'm running it and need to restart the phone about once or twice a day.
I suspect it was a management decision to not release it because if there are big issues and they release it around xmas time, who is going to be around to fix it or support all the end users complaining? Most of the people take vacations around mid December until January for holidays... Most likely they have short staff.
I think we'll see something in January when they have developers ironing out the last bugs and have a full support team. Maybe for CES??
On another note, I think they "leaked" 2.2.1 out for a reason.. let's beta test on the hard core folks... Lots of people complained about GPS and some other issues, so best to fix it first from their perspective. These leaks happen to go to typically more advanced users that can figure out how to revert back to stock without needing to call support...

Is there a such app that would do the same as an app called sms bomber but it would do emails or tweets lol then you could blow them up literally.....sprint
Viper Rom

Done and Done!

Gladly... thanks for the links!

Was reading around the pages and you guys are doing it wrong...
If your posting on a Sprint page, blame sprint, no matter what others say blame sprint and give evidence that its sprint..(if people blame samsung prove that is sprints fault)
(for those wondering international sgs did get froyo updates..it is official..not a rumor...the ones in canada were taken down but they were reinstated a week later and everything works)
If your on Samsung's page blame samsung and if people blame carriers prove that its samsungs fault...
This may sound contradicting but if your posting about how samsung sucks on a Sprint site..sprint does not need to defend samsung..they can let them take the blame..
same way the other way..
*evil grin* lol

I'm not sure of the timing but this was posted to phandroid after we started:

It would be nice for a carrier or manufacturer to give an official response instead of pushing the responsibility off to the retailers or customer service reps at the bottom.
Keep it going. Maybe we'll see something next week when the big whigs come back from their holiday vacation.
Oh and if you were looking key people:

Been doing tweets to @samsungservice, @samsungmobileus, @galaxyssupport and @sprint every couple hours now. Added @samsungtweets as well. Been doing facebook ones too but not gotten any official responses.

That makes sense. No one is going to be around on their digial marketing team this time of the year. Hopefully when they return next week they'll respond.
Keep the chatter going though. The more attention the problem gets the more likely a response will be given.

2.5 OTA update for G1 mid january

http://droidheaven.com/2009/12/12/g1-and-mytouch-3g-to-get-2-5-update-in-january/
just when i thought my g1 was getting out dated and they where going to stop giving us updates.
Even though our Devs are hard at work to get 2.0 and 2.1 working, and for the most part they are very quick and reliable but dont have a working camera unless htc gives us camera drivers we are screwed. but i came across this today and i now have hope. i was going to buy a nexus next month but now that its confirmed that we are getting a 2.5 OTA update i see no need in upgrading just wait until Cyanogen Drizzy or JAC (where are you MLIGN???)get a hold of this one
sorry mods if you think this doesnt belong PLZ move
is this for real?
I don't want to sound like a sceptic, but this sounds scetchy.
let me get this straight....
their new $500 phone is only gonna have 2.1 but the 'outdated' G1 will get 2.5....
....not a hope in hell of them doing that
i will eat my hat if we have 2.5 on the G1 before january is out....
hopefully my hat will taste good...id love this to be true....but its unlikely
Well.......
According to Eugene373 they have the camera drivers, but will not release them just yet...

If you have the new flavored hats, you might go back for seconds. I'm sure the G1's "2.5" will be 2.0 with flash if it even comes out.
Bit offtopic but isn't flash just an application, technically a browser addon?
It wouldn't need to be in a rom, just on the android market as "Flash" or included in an update to the browser application.
If you piece all the rumors and truly confirmed info from those that get the leaks, the G1 is getting an update sometime in January/February to 2.0/2.1/2.5... something with a 2 at the front. Wow! Such shocking news "confirmed" by an un-named "source" on a site that has also "confirmed" in the past we would be getting 2.0 then 2.1 and now 2.5.
I made a Post with the exact same topic so a mod please lock it/delete it.
The g1/mytouch is not getting android 2.5 it is getting 2.0/2.0.1
They got the mytouch version working but the damn unrooted g1 just doesn't have the space for it so we have to wait so they can slim it down.

2.5? What is that exactly?
Honestly, it's getting annoying to see specific releases of Android for specific phones (e.g., 2.0 for Droid, 2.1 for N1). It's almost like after 1.6, the releases started to become phone specific rather than generic.

And you won't be the first to hear of it either. I promise you, as hard as it is to believe, that HTC and TMO upper management are the first to know. Next up are leaks from devs for HTC to media. Then official confirmation from TMO to the media. Then, about a week after that, if not longer, reps are informed. Don't say otherwise, since some of us work in the business as well, likely for much longer, and have seen how this works.
Reps are always left in the dark until the very end. It is stupid, since reps deal with the public face to face and can make a selling point out of a bunch of the stuff that is kept in the dark, but it is the way it is.
2.5?!?! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHHA!!! You gotta love rumors. The update coming out in January, if any update at all, will more then likely be 2.0 with or without flash. If it's that easy for people to post rumors regarding android, why doesn't someone post something regarding android 17.1 (wedding cake). It's the merge of iPhone & Android!!!! ROTF!

Yeah, I work for a cell phone provider, and we get a launch email about a week before the phone launches. I usually know sooner because I am one of the testers for smart phones, but I don't even get all of them, and if I am not testing it I don't know anything until that email... plus, even as a tester, I only get about a 4 week heads up, which is about 2-3 months behind the management picking our phones.
Worst of all, when we do new promos/plans we get our launch info the day before and thus have about 18 hours to read and figure out the new promos, come up with a selling strategy and figure out what sort of customer it is right for.

It's still slated for first half 2010 (according to the sprint forums), but the last post on twitter said early first half 2010, which would technically give them about 10 days.
They ARE still planning to push out 2.1 to the Hero and Moment.

I want that damn update just so I can have a ROM without the audio loss that keeps happening! I can't get away from it no matter where I go.

Your title is a little misleading...
like another member said before me, the admins did not say that. all they said was they don't know..
No one at the BAW forums has come forward and said "this update is not happening May 7."
This is very telling because in the past, they have directly refuted most of the rumored dates.

"I can officially (no, really) state that it is NOT going on Friday, May 7 2010.
When is it going? Sorry, no one has that information for publication.
I can confirm that we are continuing to test the 2.1 build for both Hero and Moment and we are committed to delivering the update in the first half of 2010."
IM definitely not sayin he is right or saying he is wrong.. Only showing that an admin actually did say this. Some people i guess cant read.
Will England (Wengla03) at BAW is usually well informed on these matters and was always forthcoming with info on Sprint's last red headed stepchild (Instinct) in the past. I trust his info over any other "leak", though I do hope he is wrong.

Its really funny over there on sprints forums.. Someone made an off topic "joke" post and everyone joined it and was just talking. One of the admins got her pantys in a bunch and actually deleted peoples post that were off topic. Yet there was no topic but joking. She locked the thread for it starting to get off topic. Even wengla the admin joined in and said something before it was locked. Its like all the admins over there are so desperate to get action and constantly delete and end threads.
And i remember going threw all the instinct updates.. They were at lease muchhh better at setting general times (within the week) of when an update would come out. If it got moved back they would come out and say, its been moved back, expect it on this date.
The hero update, Sprint has been just simply terrribblee at keeping the customers in the loop.

Believe it or not, US Cellular probably has almost as many developers responsible for "Android Stuff" as Sprint does... I'm guessing 2 or 3, vs 4-6 for Sprint. People would be shocked if they knew how few actual developers are responsible for so much of what we use daily. There are dozens & dozens of employees involved with QA, logistics, liasing between management & Samsung's own developers, etc... but actual individuals with the official source in their Eclipse workbench personally working on raw sourcecode? Very, very few. The main advantage *they* have over devs @ XDA is the email address of someone at Samsung who *might* be able to help them if they get stuck on something. And, of course, the latest source ;-)
You *always* need at least two devs who can touch the code if necessary, but beyond that, the number grows very slowly beyond the first 3-6 and their supervisor. In a very real sense, NoobieNL + one or two other Epic devs basically doubles or triples the number of development man-hours dedicated *specifically* to the Epic's destiny if you also count Sprint's devs. Samsung *itself* probably has 1 or 2 devs who spend all day with the Epic, 1 or 2 more who deal mainly with "CDMA Galaxy S" stuff, and a much bigger group responsible for Touchwiz & platform apps in general.
That's why unauthorized leaks are frowned upon here. If the 2.2 source for the Epic gets leaked without tacit authorization, Sprint doesn't have an army of faceless drones to blame... they have one or two managers who'll get reamed/threatened, and those managers probably have a pretty good idea who did it before they even leave the VP's office.
At the end of the day, regional carriers are a mixed bag. They have more developers per capita than Sprint or Verizon, and probably less internal bureaucracy & complications like SprintTV, but less/no individual "pull" with HTC, and even less with Samsung. If Sprint locks horns with Samsung, they'll probably reach a compromise they can both deal with. If US Cellular, Fido, MetroPCS, etc locks horns with Samsung, they'll probably be tactfully told to take it or leave it.

Do we even know that Sprint and/or Samsung are upset about the leaks or that the ones we have weren't authorized from someone higher up? I would say that having leaked Froyo out in the wild takes a lot of heat off of them. Sure people are upset about not having the "official" version with source and all, but imagine how upset they would be if we had no Froyo at all. Is there any evidence that these leaks weren't intentional?

There isn't any evidence either way, so it's all conjecture. I'm excited to point out that your question demonstrates one of the few logical fallacies whose names I remember from a rhetoric class I took in high school. I swear I'm not trying to be a jerk. I just love it when I remember something I learned so goddam long ago.
Using the absence of evidence against a hypothesis to suggest that the hypothesis is true is called "argumentum ad ignorantiam". It's used rhetorically to place the burden of proof on the skeptic and in extreme cases can lead to paranoid conspiracy theories. "You can't prove it's wrong; therefore it must be right!"
I'm not suggesting that you're doing that at all. I really am just spouting some crap I learned in high school because I think it's fun.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_w5JqQLqqTc
The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.
^^^ Actually, I wasn't referring to any specific leak, recent or otherwise... just reminding everyone that if they ever get contacted by someone at Sprint someday with info they need to make something work, but they're asked to keep it under wraps until some date, don't assume that it's a thinly-veiled "okay" to go ahead and post it immediately, or that he/she's safe because nobody at Sprint will be able to figure out who secretly helped you. Thank them profusely, and respect their request (if only out of enlightened self-interest and hope that they might share more info with you in the future).

Yes, we totally are kidding!
Verizon released Froyo for the Fascinate yesterday, but they just won't give it to you. Why? We're not sure. Maybe you didn't pay your bill on time, or maybe they're prejudiced against people with {insert your hair color here} hair. They can be pretty capricious that way.
The rest of us are rocking it, but nobody has posted here about it because we all like keeping secrets and making you angry.
Toodles!
Samsung charges providers with the update, verizon does not want to pay for it since its open source. Therefor we wont see it unless samung gives it for free or someone here can make it happen. my bet is on XDA not Verizon. Next phone will be motorola seems they are happy in bed with verizon and get all the updates and fixes.

Next phone will be motorola seems they are happy in bed with verizon and get all the updates and fixes.

You hit this one right on the head! Sammy needs a lesson on what "open source" is. Although I think Verizon could be a little more vocal, in the end it all comes down to Sammy.

Did you guys MISS that line ???? No Flash browser, might as well not be 2.2....

Actually, I would gladly take 2.2 without flash to get JIT and chrome to phone, not to mention some apps are coded to only work on newer versions.

I would, but the majority of the tools and noobs in here only care about Flash. I'm actually most excited about JIT and the ability to upgrade integrated apps independent of software updates (like Gmail for example)

Really? Don't leave us Adrynalyne. It's making me mad too. I was forced to update to DL09 since I got my phone replaced today, and I went back to DJ05. And then the CD bug happened. It's such an awesome phone, crippled by poor carrier/manufacturer support.
Im not leaving...its just the OCD in me kills me on things like this.
We got it resolved yesterday, anyway.
I'm new to this forum and still trying to find my way around it, so could you point me in the direction of the usb situation fix please? Thank you.

More info: EB13 to EC05

While searching through some sprint forums, I came across the admin stating this about those who have EB13:
The official Sprint OTA update is for devices on EB13 and will update your device to EC05. You should receive it by midnight CST.
I know people might think this is crap, but the one thing the admin gave away is the TIME ZONE. Now we know the time zone to base it on to see if it will come true.
Just a thought to get people a little more hopeful.
Here's the source: http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/273219

Thanks. I swear to you I'm not lying.
I mean, my statement is just a theory, of course, based on a Sprint Admin (the one who actually posted the info all about the new update on the Sprint forums), so I'm taking his word for it.
Also, it being CST makes sense since the Sprint Headquarters is in the Midwest. (I think)
That being said, I think that confirms that the update is being run by Sprint, not the Google servers, like some had suggested.
Yep makes alot of sense and explains the texts everyones been getting.
Thanks for posting bro.

No problem. Since I live in the Midwest, it's easier to keep track of the time
For those who don't live in the Midwest, it is currently 9:00.
Only 3 more hours until we all get EC05, or Sprint had lied
Edit: Holy crap, I think I might be getting it right now O_O
It's checking for the software update, and it's taking way longer than usual. I know it's checking correctly because whenever you check for any update, the little "3G" icon in the notification bar disappears. I'll let it keep loading for a while. *FINGERS CROSSED*
Edit2: False Alarm... (no shocker really)
It's update android, not firmware. It's not coming tonight, it's not available.

Alright, well:
1. You have to click "Update Firmware" and then the System Updates section will show it downloading.
2. It IS available; people on DI18 already have it. Sprint claims EB13 will get it too. Maybe not today, but one can only hope right?
Look, the best way to look at a situation like this is to be optimistic, and that is what I am attempting to do. Sure I might be wrong or get my hopes up, but sometimes the feeling of having the optimism is enough.
So please, don't just make statements like that. I know you weren't intending to bash me or anything, but having that negativity does not help.
Thanks
So odin back to di18 and check for the update to see what happens.

Updating to 05 via 13 IS NOT AVAILABLE AND WILL NOT BE THIS WEEK.
Look at the 13 update, it came out for 18 alone, and then days later was pulled. NOTHING else dropped. Samsung does not give a $hit about current customers, and it's not going to change tonight, or tomorrow for that matter.

Agreed. I just checked three forums posted by Sprint admins that confirmed ALL SOFTWARE VERSIONS WILL BE UPGRADED TO EC05 BY END OF TODAY.
Now I agree with you that we may not get it TODAY, but we will get it EVENTUALLY. And @dbpaddler, I would but I have a Mac, and do not feel like wiping my data. Also, I do not want to do the Root method because if I root my phone I want to put ext4/cwm3 on it, not cwm2.5. (I realize I can update, but not worth the hassle in my opinion)
This was just posted today:
UPDATE 3/24/11
: Updates from older versions are now available via OTA. If you are on any of the previous releases (not including the leaked DK28 release), you will receive a notification to update...still following
up on whether these will be step releases (DG27 to DI07 to DI18, etc.) or if they will be from the old release directly to the current (for example, DG27 to EC05).

Can you site a source of your "facts" that specifically say there will be no update from EB13 to EC05, or should we just call this a vent (maybe even a troll) and end it here?
You people act like this would be the first time sprint said something that didn't come true. Hell, the Epic was coming with FROYO since November. It's only 4 months later, and they still aren't shipping froyo on the phones, and it came out in what, last may?
Facts? Yes, how about the FACT that it WAS stated that 18 and 13 were BOTH getting 05, then it changed it changed to 18 getting it, and 13 by 1am est, NOW it's changed to 3 previous getting the update? However, the FACT still stands, only 18 is getting 05. Everything I've posted is FACT, the only one inferred was that it's not coming tonight.

Agreed. I don't want this to be a back-and-forth argument.
However, if you can cite a source proving your statements, I would accept them and be on my way.
Edit: @NoSoMo, look, I understand why you're feeling like that. However, it is Samsung who is developing the software, not Sprint. Samsung develops, Sprint delivers. Besides, people already have EC05, which means Sprint ISN'T LYING.
We will get it in due time, and if we don't, then I would just odin to get it.
Please don't get angered by this; I don't want an argument. I agree with you; most likely we will not get it today. But I do believe we will within this week (Sunday, if we're that unlucky)

You state that it is not available (assumed currently), which is a fact as of this minute. You then make a very bold FACTUAL claim that it will not be available this week. I am asking you to site the source of this FACT. There are people that read this forum for FACTUAL information, and when you make a statement like that, it is going to freak people out, POSSIBLY FOR NO REASON.
If you would have said "and I bet it won't be available at all this week", or "watch it not be available at all this week", that is an opinion, and that is cool. You made a FACTUAL statement off of what DOCUMENTED FACT???
In the end you could very well be right, but not because of fact, but because you took a chance and got lucky, I am just asking you to take a little responsibility in what you post on forums, especially about such a hot topic.

You bring out a good point Milkman, although a little too argumental (I'm trying to keep some tranquility here )
@NoSoMo, he's right. You are basing everything on opinion and past events that make you believe Sprint will not deliver their promise. An inference is fine, but please reword it so you don't say "facts".
Guys, look. I didn't want all of this to turn into an argument. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Please, I do not want a flame war. Can we all agree to drop this?
I just got tired of waiting so I went to Androidcentral and and used their rom and flashed from EB13 to EC05. It worked great and I didn't lose any data. http://forum.androidcentral.com/epi...ooted-cwm-v2-5-1-0-rfs-odexed.html#post761525

I'd do that if I could, but I have a mac and no availability to a PC as of now. Also, I would prefer to root my phone to ext4/cwm3 (I realize you can just update over it, but eh, I'm more comfortable with my own preferences)
