Thinking about purchasing a Android tablet. Got it narrowed down to the VeiwSonic 10" or Samsung's Galaxy tab. Leaning towards the Samsung becuase of the 3G plus I own a Epic 4G so Im kind of familar with it. Was wondering if there is a way to get the Galaxy tab to use a mobile phone plan instead of Sprint's tab plans.
You want to buy a Sprint Tab and then use your phone plan as data?
No. Can't be done.(as far as I know)
but you can tether it to the tab.
This was an option for me but since I have an unlimted data sim from ATT I decided against it.

So I got my tmobile galaxy tab from craigslist the other day (killer deal), I didnt intend to use the tab for voice calls because in my opinion that is just silly IMO. I intended to use it for just data and organizatio, I didnt want to very another contract with tmobile bc that is crazy
I was told I just can use my "4g" tmo g2 as a portable wifi hotspot and just connect my tab to that. I works flawlessly and im connecting at 3600-4000kbs I live in nyc.
Just wanted to share
Happy holidays

Same here. I got an awesome deal on my T-Mobile branded Tab on Craigslist. I have never been a T-Mobile customer but the brand on the device did not bother me. I use the Wi-Fi function on the Tab and simply tether it to my Nexus One. I could not be happier with the results. No reason to buy another data plan with a beast like the N1 in my pocket.
Ok so I've had the Sprint Tab for about a month now (tested it out on the 30 day trial run) and just called Sprint up yesterday to return it. I originally purchased the Tab to replace my Evo meaning I wanted to use the device as my primary mobile device. I did the VOIP tweak and was running it fine, only problem was the poor quality of the calls and not being able to successfully use a bluetooth headset.
In the end, I determined that the Sprint Tab wasn't for me so I recently just purchased the AT&T tab so I could use true voice capabilities instead of VOIP and be able to use a bluetooth headset. Only problem is I'm not fan of AT&T plans- they seem so $$$. I'm still on contract with Sprint but plan to downgrade to their most basic $29.99 plan. With that in mind, if I'm going to get an AT&T voice/data sim, I need it to be not so expensive. Unfortunately, it looks like I would have to pay $39 for voice, $25 for data and $10 for texts so altogether, roughly $75 am I correct? (not to mention the activation fee).
Is there a least expensive option? Would I be able to use a T-mobile sim (their plans seem cheaper) in the AT&T tab and not run into the modem switcher issue or any other problem when flashing the Euro firmware?
There should be a minium data plan for $14.99. I got one for my niece using iPhone. Everything else sounds correct.
If you're happy with Sprint, don't switch. AT&T could have its own issue as well (where I'm at I have to use microcell but if I drive across the street, I'm screwed). Pretty pathetic but I have the old AT&T plan with unlimited data plan so I'm trying to hold on to it. I could change my mind some day I guess.
Well I'm not completely leaving Sprint as I'm still on contract- just downgrading. The Sprint tab was great but I really wanted an all-in-one device and the fact that every person I called complained about the poor call quality using VOIP is a deal breaker so using the AT&T tab is something I'm going to have to do.
I just want to be able to have a cheaper month-to-month option since I still have to pay for a Sprint voice plan I won't be using....
The only way to lower the cost is an addition to a family plan. The go phone data is too expensive.
Why att? Do you have att? Does att let you use voice calling and 3g? If so thats cool.
I got a tmobile tab and I use simple mobile (unlimited talk text and web) which uses t mobile towers. Most of the time in my area its connected with the H icon.
I dont know about att tablets but t mobile can only do 3g data only or 2g and calling. There is a script available that swaps modems for you though.

I knew they would do this as soon as they heard of at&t's throttling and weak tier plans, and mad customers. So right now you get 4gb for $30,10gb for $50, and 20gb for $80.....that 10gb with a corporate discount isn't sounding too bad right about now. I shall use the note with this Verizon promotion in mind but if there was a chance to stick it to at&t for those that can this would be the time to abandon at&t's throttling ship. Honestly, I rather do that then sign a new 2 year contract. I'm still pretty disappointed at how at&t are treating their unlimited customers.
What do you guys think?
Galaxy Note GT-N7000 is a GSM phone and will not work on Verizon's CDMA network.
That in mind, the Galaxy Nexus is a great phone too. I was actually pen to paper close to signing up for Verizon with a GN before I came to my senses and bought an International Note to use on my out of contract AT&T line.

Hey sorry but I thought this was the at&t galaxy forum lol. But since you commented. Not sure how the international version used on at&t would help with throttling or avoid any warning. I for one cant speak for others but now I find myself much more careful and almost scared to stream audio or video because of this throttling at&t is putting on its unlimited customers. Meanwhile, I pre-orderd a at&t note last week but I will try it and maybe jump to verizon because of this. I didnt think verizon would bring back the double data promotion so soon
Now which phone to pick on verizon? Root/Dev support that has recently come out? The GN has issues on verizon?
Hi!
I am going to switch to sprint from AT&T because I lost my job. I am going to get onto my mother-in- law’s plan because my wife is already on it. They have a family plan so I was just going to jump onto their plan to save money.
The only problem is that I have a Dell Streak and am so in love with it. I have the awesome stock unlocked factory ROM on it and can tether with an unlimited data plan. It’s a great phone but does seem a little out dated by being a little slow. Also I am tired of paying 85.00 a month for unlimited mobile to mobile, unlimited data, and unlimited testing. I know it’s a decent deal but money is tight at the moment.
The only solution so far is to go to sprint because that is what my wife and mother-in-law are have. The only close phone that sprint has that is close to what I have is the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G. The phone would be 19.95 a month and 10.00 a month for the data for that phone. I am wondering if there is a huge ROM support group for the Galaxy S II if I wanted to say put Ice Cream Sandwich on it stock style with unlock tethering with the sprint network. I know some networks make it real hard to change your ROM’s phone.
The other choice would be just to go with the Samsung Replenish because it seems like a decent phone and has Android capabilities but I just think I would find myself depressed going from an extreme mod phone like the Dell Streak to the Samsung Replenish.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Let me know the ins and outs of moding a Galaxy S II on the Sprint network. And what phone you think would be best. You think the extra 10.00 is worth the Galaxy S II? I just think I will be going for the Galaxy S II because that is what I am used to.
Side note is that I am 8 months from my contract expiring with AT&T and have unlimited data smartphone plan. I was thinking about using an extra lame old phone that I have laying around the house and taking of my data plan by calling in and say I do not have it any more I just have a basic phone and ask them to remove my data plan. This was when I port my number over to Sprint they will only charge me the basic termination fee than the more expensive one because I had a smartphone. Do you think this would work?
Best,

Anyone Else?
If you get the GT-19100 model then development is awesome, there are new roms and themes every day. I moved from Dell Streak to Galaxy SII, the only thing I miss is 160dpi being readable

How do you know if you get that model? check the back of it? do you get that one at the Sprint store?
I have not bought one yet. I could call and ask or go by there and ask to see the one in the box before I get it.
Also do you think its a big deal to give up my unlimited data plan on AT&T?
Are the brand new ones in the stores today the GT-19100 model? Also are the white ones GT-19100?
I called the store and they say its the D710? Is that an entirely different model?
Thats the unlocked version and is not compatible with Sprint!
Why give up your streak? Check slickdeals, fatwallet or howard forums to learn about mvno's. Straight talk is 45 unlimited everything on at&t. You have to sign up in a particular state to avoid tax. Otherwise simple mobile is unlimited everything on tmobile's network for 40. Both these mvno's supposedly have fine print on data usage but everyone says they don't care if you abuse the data usage.
Personally I use H20 another at&t mvno. I use groove ip the majority of the day since I have wifi and I just switch my phone out of airplane mode when I'm not near wifi. I know there's a tasker app for this... H20 has a cheap plan that is 100 up front for the year for 2000 min and data.
There's also page plus which I've set up a lot of people on- they use verizon's network- no unlimited data but they have the best plan for 30.
Could I use my Streak on any of those carriers?
The i9100 is the International version which is unavailable at any carrier. You will have to buy it outright off ebay or somewhere like that....Any other model has límited ROM development....
I have one and love it but the ICS roms are still buggy

There is the GT-19100 which is the one you'll find in Europe and America, then there's an GT-19100G which has a different graphics chip, it is not as powerful as the original. It says under the battery cover, there's a lot more development for the original, the G lacks devs. You can unlock any Galaxy phone from an app in the market too
That link that you posted was for the Galaxy S I not the II.
Sprint is getting the Galaxy Nexus soon.
Will that have good 4G LTE? Should I wait for the rumored Galaxy Note? Or should I just get the Nexus 4G LTE?
When you root it or flash a new ROM does it give you portable wireless hot spot?

S 2 is fast and good device with TONs of custom ROMs
So will At&t recognize this phone as Smartphone and will require $20 or $30 data plan or medianet plan will work? Any feedback?
Smartphone, obviously.
Drumist doesn't know what he's talking about. The Galaxy Nexus got about a year of medianet service, I think we can expect the Nexus 4 to do the same since AT&T won't have the IMEI's for these phones.

What do you mean 1 year of service?

The gnex was marked as not medianet about a week ago along with many other Samsung phones. The Nexus 4 is likely to last longer since LG does not have a history of sharing IMEI's with carriers.

The nexus 4 should work fine on medianet just like every other unlocked unbranded att compatible device. With the exception of samsung and htc nexus devices.
My international galaxy note has been working fine on medianet for almost a year now. Unless LG gave att their IMEI's the nexus 4 should fly under the radar with medianet.
So would we just use the imei number of the nexus 4 and select the unlimited data for feature phones? Even with that route it comes to about 70 but 61 with a corporate discount. Might do this if possible.

Are there any updates on this? Has anyone tried?
For those using medianet plan did att throttle your speeds? were you able to get hspa+ on medianet vs the regular data plan($30/3GB)?
how do we choose medianet plan?
I recently received a text message stating that I needed a data plan in order to use my current phone.
(Pantech Link with 10/month unlimited data is my current plan)
I have switched out my at&t sim into these phones
1. Galaxy s blaze 4g
2. t989 (tmobile galaxy s ii)
I received this messages after 4 months of continuous usage on the blaze.
I didnt realize at&t had tmobile IMEIs
I called up att and they stated that "I was using a samsung and their system doesnt glitch"
how can I avoid this text message switching me onto a smartphone data plan.
So what phones can I use with the media-net plan and be completely protected?
This is my experience. I've had the international sgs2 and galaxy note. I was able to use the non-smartphone plan with both of those. Last week I received my nexus 4 and called at&t to change from a smartphone plan to a non-smartphone plan. I told them that I had an old phone and I wanted to remove the lte plan and add the $15 media net. Everything went well until she tried to add the media net to my plan. She said that she couldn't find my phone's imei in their data base. I told her that its not an at&t phone, its an old gsm phone that I purchased from eBay. She fiddled around for probably 10 minutes trying to find out exactly what kind of phone I had. I could here her typing and talking to somebody and then she read from her computer screen, "Google Nexus 4". She said that she used Google to find out what kind of phone I had. This is the first time this has happened to me. She said that now they can not add any data to a phone if they don't know exactly what the phone is.

Question is;
Why did you give her IMEI from your N4?
Is your sgs2 still working? What IMEI do they have for sgs2?
