There should be other messages on the screen before the abort message. What do they say?
it may have to do with how they are signed,

I have no idea what that is.. And i dont think anything is wrong with the files, because wouldnt other post in that thread saying they also have a problem?
Personally, I still think the issue is that you're trying to use the wrong menu option in CWM. You shouldn't be picking "apply sdcard:update.zip" you should be picking "install zip from sdcard". Is that what you're doing?
MD5 is a checksum program that let's you check to make sure your downloaded file has not been changed from what the author of the file originally made. This protects you from download corruption (though zip in and of itself tends to do that) and from some man in the middle adding/changing the files before they get to you.
Most ROM devs will include an md5 hash tag on the page you're getting the rom file from.
Easy to use, you can do it from the command line on a Mac or Linux, or you can get an app on any OS that lets you point to the file and paste in the hash tag, then you let the app compare for a match. It's worth checking out, or at least re-downloading the file if using md5 is too complicated.
Others won't complain if their download wasn't corrupted...

By now I am sure everyone has been directed to some instruction similar to the one here solo.dc3.com/dinc/ to install the OTA and re-do root. However if you have uninstalled any VZW software the install still fails.
There is however a file in the update.zip file called updater-script located
META-INF\com\google\android
if you pay attention to what is causing the install to fail then you can edit out the asserts/installs that are causing the failure. I had an issue with VzNav.apk I removed it long ago and the install failed. Once I found this file I was able to run this install without a hitch.

I went through the list at http://www.chadhaney.com/droidIncDefault/ and downloaded all of the stuff I was missing; do you think it would be easier to re-install them/check permissions/etc or do it your way? After going through that list, I at least know what I'm missing now.
How do you edit in the updater script? I tried deleting the assert line that causes me the failure and reapplying my edited update package, then i get an error that says update package bad. I also noticed that before I edited the update script, the size of the script was 97kb. After I deleted out the line, the size changed to 99 kb. Could that be the problem?

You have to sign the update.zip after you change anything inside it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666441 will help you do it if you're on windows.
With Winrar (which I used) you have to add a "comment": signed by SignApk
and it will work. Be sure you zip up the same directory structure as well.
The reason I did it this way is b/c even after re-installing VzNav.apk it still failed complaining about it. So the edit was the only way.
I downloaded the dexter mod via get right...it shows a 92.20 mb downlaod...i am downloading it from the page here where dexter posted in in the applications thread...
I performed a wipe data before I tried to install...should I try another sdcard? Still has the message...
Install from sdcard
finding update package
opening update package
E: can't open/sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
formatting MISC...
i would appreciate any help...I've done this numerous times and it still won't work...
Is there another link i might try to get the mod?
Can someone send me the mod?
Any other ideas?
Root directory
when I put the dexter mod on the sdcard, there is nothing else showing on it..I have also formatted the card and reinstalled the program...am I doing something wrong here? how do I make sure I am putting the mod in the root directory?

Okay......did you rename dexters mod to Update.zip (make sure it's not Update.zip.zip. If your using Windows just right click and rename it to Update and press enter)? The root is the first directory you come to when you explore the card.
What method are you using to update? Are you shutting it down and then booting into recovery?
Recovery
I am booting into recovery mode as it says in the forum..press on, release press and hold...I will check renaming the file...trying another sdcard also...I'll let you know
I didn't do it that way. I just put the card in with the Update.zip file that I renamed...went into settings-->about device-->system updates where it looked for the "Update" file.
Size Matters
I encoutered this and began noticing the downloaded file was smaller than indicated when transfer initiated. I was getting files less than 50mb but should have been just over 90mb, using bad download file will cause failure in flashing. Verify your file size.
I Odin'd back to DI18 and got the EC05 update (downloaded successfully)... but I didn't reboot to install it. I want to actually pull that update file off the phone but I can't locate it. Is it not on the SD card? Can someone help me find the file? Thanks much

It's in the /cache directory in main memory. I was able to copy it using ES File explorer. Be aware that it contains binary difference files that can only be used to upgrade from DI18. It doesn't contain the full ROM.

It's been posted many times and is the source of the updates linked all over this forum. No need to post it unless you have the EB13 to EC05 update.

I saw that one... .but I read another forum message "Direct from Sprint" that this one is not official and to not install it period.... Not sure why they are saying this... maybe there is something wrong with that update file.

I am looking in the main cache file using ES File Explorer...but that EC05 system update is not there... the directory is empty. Any idea where the downloaded update is located?

When I try to download the 1- click root zip file in the sticky thread it errors out. Can anyone download from this link? Is it broken? Do new users with no posts have issues when downloading links from this forum?
Thanks

I just downloaded it without a problem. What error are you seeing? I'm guessing MS (if you're using Internet Explorer) might be throwing up the error considering the zip file contains a trojan which is only used to exploit Android, not your computer.
I right-clicked the link in that thread, and opened it in a new tab. Pop-up comes up saying the site is known as unsafe blah blah blah, and I chose to download anyway. Worked without hitch.

Ah, I think that you are correct and it's being quarantined by my anti virus. Thanks.
SOLUTION HERE
So I decided it would be a good idea to attempt to solve the 'sim card removed' notification problem I've been having by disabling notifications for systemui (since that's where 'app data' took me when I went to see what app was giving me the error. Since it would let me do that, I decided to try converting it to a user app, disabling notifications, and then converting it back to a system app using Rom Toolbox.
After converting to a user app failed (it did not convert) I now have a new problem. After being rebooted, systemui not only failed to launch, it;s not listed as being installed at all!
Can anyone provide a backup .apk of systemui so I can attempt to reinstall it and fix my screwup?
edit-update:: in rom tolbox, I managed to find a task with the same name viewing app info, I noticed it says 'excluded: YES', with yes in red and OOM Group is Foreground App. CPU time = 0s, which I assume means it's not running.
How to proceed?
more info: /sytem/app has no .apk or .odex for systemui
Yet more info: I tried Restart SystemUI from the Play store with no success. The option to go to SystemUI settings fails. It seems I somehow deleted/lost the systemui app? That should mean I can reinstall it if someone copies theirs, yes?
*bump*
Please, guys? This device is pretty much unusable right now and I literally need one .apk file to fix it. I swear I'll buy you a beer if we ever meet.

Hope it solves your problem.
But did you consider reseting the phone? Or use odin and install proper firmaware again?
Although it says .apk, it downloads as a zip file? The zip doesn't contain an .apk and attempting to install the zip through recovery fails with
E: footer is wrong
E: signature verification failed.
Factory reset didn't fix it and stock image for the g530az apparently does not exist anywhere on the internet for some reason. Sideload fails also.
Please advise.
on my pc, download is working well. I uploaded the apk.
Use on cwm or twrp guys . include the systemui
pls someone can upload SYSTEMui_ess.odex i need it to repair my phone .the file is in the folder system/priv_app/
