US Tmo tab JJB...what are my options?!? - Galaxy Tab General

OK so i've had my tab for about two weeks and i can't get a clear answer as to what my options are for flashing my device. I see many JMC and JJ6 and I'm really lost. I know there are many models of this tab but i want to know for the American tmobile tab specifically.
the firmware i have says JJB...What are my options as far as to flashing to a new firmware?
Is there an official upgrade?
I will only use it for data and not voice calls, so i want to have 3G. I would like a fix to the lag in the calendar and browser.
Can any of the firmwares help me?
I also installed Kies with drivers and it doesn't see my tab? Do i have to be in download mode for Kies to see my tab?
Thank you very much for your time.

Same boat as you. awaiting some guidance as well.

Same thing here. Kies doesn't recognize my tab and I'm on JJB. Changing your IMEI works though, allowing for 3G and bypassing the T-Mobile redirect. I'm on the old school 5.99 T-zones plan and getting unlimited 3g .

same here there is very little guidance and very helpful people but I can't seem to just get a simple question answered here or there to feel comfy enough to flash my new tab, I know you want rotojme because there are no bootstraps installed. I know the koush clockwork mod kernel installs ext4 file system which is great but I can't remember where to put the files I need to adb? lol Im a mess cause its been since the g1 that I have ever adb anything.

Has anyone using JJB taken the leap of upgrading to a better firmware? How did you do it?
Any advise would be appreciated.

JJB is possible
Happy New Year.
New roto's rom is working great. So far I flashed 6 units no problem. They were all JJB. Here is bottom line.
Current status, No voice and 3G possible.
Users have 2 options.
1. 2G(EDGE) with Voice by flasing (Euro Rom)
2. 3G only (with IMEI Mod)
I appreciate Rotohammer's hardwork for this.
If you need more detail, check out following blog at
sooparkhero.blogspot.com
It will go through step by step tutorials.

Can't wait for there to be a tutorial on how to flash a T-mo tab and get 3G. That's all I'm waiting for.

I went through the same mess with mine. I finally just flashed the full jm6 for samfirmwares.com and then just the pda piece of jmc. Since then i used rotos pre rooted jme. Again by just flashing the pda piece. The day after i flashed jm6 is wheb all this talk about different bootloaders came up, so im not sure which boat i am in but i could care less. This jme is ridiculous compared with stock tmo firmware. I am happy enough.with it for this to be the final state of my tab. Lower the lcd density a bit for a better looking tab and remove the contents of your efs folder(AFTER backing it up) for the imei mod that frees you from the webconnect plan and you are set

Issues with roms
There has been some issues with new roms. The issue is once you flash into one of these roms you can't revert back to old one. Here is related link.

Professionals recommand not to use these roms until they are modified and further tested.

[How-To] Flash Euro ROM on T-Mobile or ATT Samsung Galaxy Tab (w/ video)

ALRIGHT EVERYONE! IM WRITING IN CAPS SO THAT MEANS THIS IS IMPORTANT!
DUE TO SOME PROBLEMS THAT PEOPLE WERE HAVING (SPECIFICALLY THOSE WHO ARE FLASHING FROM A NON-STOCK TAB) I HAVE DECIDED TO PULL THE LINKS UNTIL WE GET A FOOL PROOF WAY OF FLASHING. THANKFULLY, ROTOHAMMER IS ALREADY WORKING ON THAT FOR US. I WILL UPDATE THIS ASAP.
REMEMBER FOLKS! DO NOT FLASH ANY FIRMWARES FROM SAMFIRMWARE.COM. FIRMWARES SUCH AS JMA, JMC, JMD ARE TO BE AVOIDED!! THIS COULD LEAD TO A BRICKED TAB.
UPDATE:
I recommend everyone use Roto's files here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894763
You can use this tutorial to show you how to flash files in general, I wont rewrite this whole thing though. If your flashing his files you dont have to download any of mine. If you have questions about his JME firmware then post it THERE. If you used my tutorial (which should work on all Tmobile & ATT tabs) then you can get help here too.
If you are on a bone stock T-Mobile tab and would like to the files to flash then PM me.
Thanks to RotoHammer & everyone else who participated in getting this to work. Here is my video. I hope it helps.

Okay guys here is the much asked video about how to flash the euro firmware on your tab. This is only for ATT & T-Mobile. PLEASE DONT DO THIS ON THE VERIZON OR SPRINT BECAUSE I DONT KNOW WHAT THE OUTCOME WILL BE. Please watch this video because the written portion will just be brief; I tried to make this as simple as possible. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR TAB BREAKS: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
1) Download all the files you need from here:
http://www.thegalaxytabforum.com/in...flashing-euro-firmware-on-samsung-galaxy-tab/
2) Turn off the Tab
3) Put the tab in download mode by holding the power button + volume down rocker simultaneously
4) Connect the tab to your WINDOWS machine. Sorry Macs!
5) Install the drivers; they are provided in the folder. If your on windows 7 the drivers will install themselves.
6) Launch the odin.exe (if you get an error about some missing .dll file then you need to install the Microsoft .Net framework from here):
http://www.microsoft...31-508d977d32a6
7) Make sure there the yellow box says Com:#. the # will be different for everyone. As long as its yellow you are good!
8) Select the pit file from the folder provided
9) Select PDA and the file from the FIRST folder
10) Make sure re-partition is selected as well as the other two options
11) Flash your device; this will take about 3 minutes and you will get a green PASS
12) If your tab didnt reboot then manually reboot it
13) Your tab should be stuck at a blackscreen at this point, THIS IS NORMAL!
14) Go back into download mode (power button + down volume rocker)
15) Close Odin and open it back up
16) Make sure the yellow box is highlighted again and your tab is connected
17) Flash the file from the SECOND folder; using PDA option
18) MAKE SURE REPARTION IS NOT CHECKED
19) The flashing will take about 3 minutes
20) The system SHOULD reboot, if not, just hold the power button for 10 seconds
21) The tab will start up and you should be at the setup screen
IF YOUR TAB GETS STUCK AT THE SAMSUNG LOGO:
1) DONT PANIC!
2) Turn off the tab by pressing the power button for 10 seconds
3) Go into recovery mode (power button + UP volume rocker)
4) Let it boot
5) Select Wipe/Data Factory Reset
6) Press home button to select and keep hitting it till it wipes
7) Reboot and Enjoy!

You cant....not yet.

Edit 12/26/10:
Alright guys there has been some talk about using firmwares (from samfirmware) that are leading to bricked tabs. You can get the nitty gritty details here but in summary...STAY AWAY FROM FIRMWARES NOT PREPARED BY TRUSTED XDA MEMBERS. I will only be posting updates that have been prepared by rotohammer. I'm happy to report that my packaged setup has gotten the rotohammer seal of approval and its 100% safe

I guess i should have been more clear. If your on a euro tab and ur on JMC already and want to go to JMD you should just select the PDA option and the ROM and it should update. You might have to do a factory wip though.

Thanks!! Awesome video, at last i understand what i'm about to do!!
A few questions:
1. I see that there is also a Roto-JMC (or even a JMD) firmware. Can it be used instead of Roto-JMA you suggested in your video (as "flash second" step)?
2. Will this update (to JMA or JMC/D) cause 3G to stop working? I think i saw posts that mentioned it on other threads.
3. I saw on other threads that sometimes screen buttons stay on after the firmware update. Will it happen after this update?
Thanks A LOT!!!
Michael.

1) Yes you can flash JMC instead of JMA. It can be done right after flashing JHA; ive never had an issue.
2) When flashing a euro firmware you will get the euro modem. Roto's JMA update doesnt include this modem so you are left with the modem you had previously. However, i think that JHA has a euro modem so even if you flashed Rotos JMA you will still be stuck with the euro modem which only gives EDGE and not 3G. Heres the thing, if you use the euro firmware you can get edge + phone working. If you use stock 3G modem, you will get 3G but no phone. Most people flash the firmware to get phone so 3G is a minor loss compared to the gain.
3) I have never heard of such problems nor do i ever notice anything odd. Could be true but it obviously doesnt bug me lol.
hope this helps!
Thanks ayman07!!
Regarding #2:
Although I have a T-Mobile Tab which i bought in US, I'm using it outside of US. So my question is: is lack of 3G happens because of compatibility issue of euro firmware with US T-Mobile bands or the modem just lacks 3G support?
Also, i see that there is a Roto modem switcher. Can i flush everything as described and if 3G won't work, switch the modem back to T-Mobile? This way i'll get newest firmware and 3G (i don't care about voice so much, i just want the performance improvements of new releases, etc ...)
Thanks again for help!!

The real reason is just that the modem file doesnt support the bands. like the euro modems dont have support for 1700. therefore, no 3G.
yes you can just use the modem switcher until we get this whole 3G situation worked out. thats a great alternative.
ur welcome
Thanks for great help! Going to do it as soon as JHA will be downloaded.

ur signature says ur already on JMC right? so why are u starting from scratch?
anyway, are u using the JHA.tar when ur doing the repartitioning? did you follow all the steps? if you flash the kernel you will be fine. i recommend u use heimdall for that though. if u WERE on JMC then you just need to extract the JMC.tar and pull out the zImage. then use heimdall to flash it under the kernel option. im not sure if you can flash a zImage from odin using the phone option.
edit:
I think I may have the solution. Are you trying to flash JMD? if so, do this.
Flash the kernel like i mentioned up top. then once its booting again, go back into download mode and select PDA and just flash the JMD.tar that you downloaded. I dont think you need to repartition since ur on a euro tab. sorry about that. i forgot you guys are partitioned. i edited my comment earlier. let me know if that works.

Great work Ayman. Your video walkthrough I believe has convinced me to go ahead and flash the firmware on my T-Mobile branded Tab. I have read for hours on end at xda and was still quite confused up until now. I'm not one of the smarter ones. :-D
My reason for wanting to flash is to rid my Tab of the lag, especially for browsing since that is my Tab's main purpose. Do you think I should proceed with flashing or is it just not worth it? I don't really care for the phone function or 3G. I only use Wi-Fi on the Tab.
Thanks!

Samsung warranty after root/recovery/ROM?

After installing CWM recovery, kernel, root, and CM7 on a Vzw Tab, is it possible to fully restore it back to stock so that Samsung will honor the warranty?
Friend of mine's Tab is having some screen issues and the warranty expires in about two weeks.
Is it possible or is he SOL?
Thanks

Yes he can. There is a stock ROM EC02 that is flashable using a program called Heimdall. It takes you back so Verizon would never know.

I have an AT&T Galaxy Tab and that link doesn't work for me. I've tried everything I possibly could to try to get this thing back to something I can use that doesn't reboot when I try to use the keyboard. I've done search after search and it never provides me with any information that's helpful to getting it back to a workable condition. I've come across the link above numerous times and I've tried to use those instructions over and over with no success.
I really think it's worth pointing out that constantly pointing people to these directions isn't helpful to those trying to restore a non-Verizon Tab. It's done zero good to me with my AT&T Tab.

But I clearly asked about a Verizon Tab and he replied with Verizon Tab-related info. That's a helpful thing.
On the other issue, the last thing you want to do with an AT&T Tab is try and use CDMA (Verizon/Sprint) ROMs. This is probably why your Tab is screwed.
Stick to GSM/ATT ROMs and you'll probably have better luck.
I've tried to find AT&T ROMs and none have worked so far.
Every time I search on this subject here I get sent to the Verizon fix.
I had the same problem, for some reason the older versions of Android that was posted on here haven't worked for me. Pretty much all the links provided in the instruction posts on turning the tab into a phone had Froyo 2.2 links. However I downloaded the Gingerbread rom 2.3.3 and flashed it and it works now:

Getting a tab soon, looking for info.

So i jumped on the deal on sellout.woot today, and i'll be getting a verizon galaxy tab, hopefully next week, and wanted to get a few things together and start reading up.
I'll probably look at just updating it out of the box and playing around with the stock firmware, but i know i'll probably want to stick some kind of custom firmware on it. So are there any recommendations on a good custom firmware? I'd like one that enable the ability to connect to ad-hoc networks (which the few in the development section i saw did not seem to mention). Should any rom for the VZW tab work? or are there different versions of this tab that i need to be aware of?
As far as flashing goes, what is hiemdal and odin? do they do basically the same thing? what about the clockwork mod, what exactly does that do? I've done a bit of rooting of devices before, but nothing major, so are there good tutorials or guides that explain a bit more about flashing custom roms? I'd like to not have a paperweight when all is said and done.
Any info you can provide or link me to is greatly appreciated.

There are not very many custom ROMs that have been developed for the Verizon Tab. Galaxy Cubed seems to be a good one. The same Dev created a stock rooted gingerbread ROM so you may want to start with that one. Some of the Sprint ROMs also work. The Sprint and Verizon are both CDMA and very similar. NEVER flash a GSM ROM to this device!
Odin and Heimdall both have the capability to flash ROMs to Samsung devices. Odin is leaked Samsung software and Heimdall is newly written software based on Odin code. I recommend you use Heimdall version 1.1.1, it is free and easy to use. Just do a google search and you will find their website.
Clockworkmod is a custom recovery that does what the stock recovery does only more. It adds the ability to flash various mods to the ROM from recovery and to do backups. But once it's installed you can only get to it by software on your system. If you try to get to it by booting, you get into the stock recovery.
Just be careful when flashing things to your Tab, it is easy to bork it up. There are a lot of tutorials here on XDA, so read them carefully.
I jumped on the same deal! Got a question too, if you don't mind the piggyback...
I chose the Verizon model and I'm interested in using a bluetooth keyboard... I understand that upon release not all keyboards would work but that Verizon put out an update and now all do work.
How do I know other than trial and error if this unit has been upgraded?
My plan is to root and go with a basic gingerbread upgrade and then pretty much leave it be. But if this is a Verizon specific update I'm wondering if I don't need to do a one month data deal in order to get the upgrade.
Any help is appreciated!

If you install the stock vanilla rooted ROM by dsb9938 you will have the latest Verizon upgrade, only rooted. Look on settings, about device, and the latest says EI04. Even if your unit comes with the latest ROM, you may want to flash the rooted vanilla since that is the easiest way to get rooted. Most of the other methods fail or are very difficult to implement on EI04.
No need to subscribe to data unless you want to. I personally like having data everywhere.

I have a droid 3 with data and it looks like there are ways to tether the Tab to the droid... I'd only need to send a few files via email a few times a month and even then it's not a necessity so much as it is a convenience.

reckon its best to make a backup of your apps with TB or any similar program when the official update is available, then flash back stock (no root) and update, afterwards simply restore your normal (non-system) apps and your ready
I'm in Aus too, but the official story (courtesy of Telstra) is that there won't be any updates as of JB 4.1.2, unless there's sufficient backlash ...

To answer you and the gentleman above... Australia will probably be the last country on earth to get the update as usual. So we might have to reside to getting it of some kind developer who uploads it here somewhere.
If you do wish to get updates you should go back to stock firmware (probably the first backup you made for your telstra 4.1.2) doesn't matter if it's rooted. Connect your phone to the PC and have KIES installed. Click update firmware and update (done, it will automatically unroot your phone and put back the stock recovery). You can easily update after that.
If anyone finds any android 4.3 working please update us here as soon as you can with a link to the page. If I find a working ROM for the official android 4.3 TW ROM I'll post it here too.
I don't think Aussie tel companies will well I don't have high hopes when it comes to Samsung I've always had HTC and Samsung and it's always the same get f all. I'm using 4.3.1 carbon I use GMD spen features for spen control and gestures don't use stock Sammy apps anyway.. just the 4.3 would be good because it's smooth as

Well now...I've been holding off playing with rooting my phone (as I'm new to 'droid and have an awful lot to learn, but have come a LONG way in 2 weeks) as I was expecting Telstra to release an update. Since that appears NOT to be forthcoming, Ill consider the various root options, none of which are particularly appealing at the moment mainly as it seems no-one has a stock ROM for this phone online and I can't backup mine without root. Catch 22 it seems. Information on locked bootloaders, Telstra ROM mods, rooting the 7105 "T" version is VERY limited
So...if anyone happens to have a link for a ROM copy please let me know.
(Or info on a rooting technique that works)
Ultimately every one on xda will be using the custom 4.3 rom for the note 3 goodies because Samsung will not be releasing those features in it's official release

Okay I will explain what I done for you...
When I first rooted my Galaxy Note 2 in May, I was a new-comer to android, I had an iPhone for a long time. What I done was root my phone, I Odin installed TWRP after rooting because I really don't like CWM (those are the names of the 'recoveries' available), they will replace the default Samsung recovery. Just make sure you get TWRP. I think it's up to TWRP 2.6.3
Well yeah let's get back to the topic, as soon as I rooted I used TWRP to make a backup of my default Telstra ROM (completely with EFS, MODEM, basically tick everything you can possibly backup).
I took that backup and put it on my laptop and on my PC and I kept a copy on my external card the whole time. That was the best idea, any time I ever had any problems with my phone I went back to that backup. I even soft bricked my phone once and after hours of panicking I realised I can just Re-install the default backup, and it fixed my phone.
Oh and I just recently un-rooted my phone to check for updates. All I done was use SuperSU to do an UNROOT. Then went into recover, restored the original backup I made of the Telstra ROM. Plugged my phone into the PC, and used Samsung KIES to check for firmware update. It just restarted my phone, removed TWRP recovery, re-installed the samsung one, and it removed the root completely and I'm basically went back to my original telstra ROM. I can go into settings and check for updates and everything. (I can confirm there is no update as of yet).
AS for your other QUESTION.
ALL THE ROMS in the N7105 Section will WORK with your N7105T Model. It's the same thing. JUST WATCH OUT and make sure you never install N7100 ROMS (They will soft-brick and could hard-brick your phone).
Thanks for the input.
I've been considering between 3, namely CF AutoRoot, Galaxy Note Toolkit And (exploit based) Framaroot, with a bias towards Toolkit so far ( as it specifies the 7105 "T" variant).
But if you've actually ODINed a GT-7105T (Telstra) with CWP without issues, I'll certainly consider that.
Any one else care to chime in on this (if you've done the same phone/telco only though !)
I've come far enough to understand rooting, boot processes, CWM/TWRP, exploits AND the importance of picking the exact model !
I'll take the plunge when I get enough input to decide.

It's not that hard really, you can't really mess it up if you follow the instructions... Hey root it whichever way you see fit, whatever you think is easier for you, don't listen to me. But I do highly recommend you get TWRP for backing up and formatting and installing your ROMS. Also I recommend PAC-MAN it's a good ROM, but it's not very stable at the moment (kind of).

Don't take offense at my asking for multiple inputs. I just don't want to brick at $600 phone needlessly
I've now sourced a ROM from Sammobile and downloaded it last night.
I'm backing up settings and stuff tonight and will run with Galaxy Note 2 Toolkit tomorrow (I went PRO) and go for option 3 - THE LOT !
Hopefully it'll all go ok.

Well, I did the deed last night with Toolkit PRO and it all went smoothly. No Telstra or Samsung nasties reared their heads PLUS there wasn't a yellow triangle either !
That's the trouble with being in Oz. It's such a small market and REAL information is very hard to come by...so one is very cautious !
Anyway thanks for your assistance :victory:

I change roms daily and have for like the last 2 years on my original note plus HTC's if your unsure on anything this place is helpful more than bloody Samsung

Note 3 flashing and updating

I just got myself a Verizon Note 3. This is one power house of a phone. I noticed the kid I got it from does have it rooted. The only annoyance I see is allot of stuff is showing in the status bar with Chinese writing. is this normal or did he use some dumb way to root it? Also it still has 4.3 on it. I tried to update it but I get the message that "software update is currently unavailable". Is this because the Note is rooted?
I have done some searching and I did get the files for flashing it back to stock. Odin, .mkz, and the Samsung drivers. So if this update message is because it's rooted, I do have the stuff to flash it back to stock. I do also know how to use Odin as it's the same program for flashing the Note 1, which I did have. But any insight you guys can give me would be great. Thanks

Check out this post of mine. It will point you in all the right directions : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55003142&postcount=3
Since you're on MJE 4.3 see this thread and go to post 2 NC2/MJE instructions...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2787627
Thanks for the info gamer but I'm not looking to root or flash roms. with this phone. At least not yet anyway. It's new to me so I really need to be as familiar with it as possible before I go flashing roms and tweaks and such. I'm not familiar with the names MJE, NC2, NC4 etc. so trying to explain that to me is just like speaking German to me right now. All I want to do for the here and now is get it back to stock un rooted 4.3, take the update to 4.4.2, and then check on the need for root then.
I also will need to look into what's safe to flash, what needs to be run, app wise, in order to flash some things. Take for instance my last phone, lg optimus g pro, you needed an app called freegee to get past the bootloader. If you screwed that up, you bricked yer phone. I'm sure some of the processes for this phone are similar in that respect. So no fiddling for me just yet. So in short, could you just tell me in simple terms if I have the correct stuff to flash it back to stock?
I currently have the latest Samsung drivers, Odin 3 V3.0.9, and the tar file named "ALL_N900VVRUBMJE_N900VVZWMJE_2106277_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5.7z"
Is this what is needed to flash it to stock 4.3? Also, if you don't mind, could you tell me if there is ANY way, a modem flash perhaps, to get my LTE working with this AT&T Straight Talk sim card? Currently I am getting H+ which isn't bad but it's no LTE. Thanks a bunch.
EDIT: Well, that was easy. My computer ran the Verizon software and it failed to update it so it did the repair and repaired it with kitkat. So one issue solved. Now If I can just get LTE working on here it would be great....lol

You can flash different modems in Odin but I don't know if they'll get you running on AT&T Straight Talk, someone else will have to chime in on that.
Att straight talk might work if you have the correct apn settings but you will not get 4g

Yeah I am finding this out Roger. I want to root and enable the hidden menu. I am seeing posts about doing this and getting the 4g LTE working. The problem is most of these posts pertain to the T-Mobile branded note 3.
