Backing Up your NV_data
Thread With more info
The reason its important to back up your NV_data (Non-volitile) is this has your imei, product code, unlock codes and model. This informatioin is not recreated with a JF6 OCD (One click downloader)
Certain Roms write data to your NV_data
(i think it was JPC leak from I9000 that was the first one. it changed everyones product code to I897ZKAKOR)
Axura changes the product code to I959ZKATMB or something like that
The Correct Product code for our Captivate is I897ZKAATT.
If your IMEI says 004999010640000 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 004999010640000 end_of_the_skype_highlighting begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 004999010640000 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 004999010640000 end_of_the_skype_highlighting end_of_the_skype_highlighting this is incorrect also and you may find your phone to stop making calls as this is like a debugging or prototype imei
Finally, if your unlock code is FFFFFFFF, you need this repair in order to unlock your code
All of these can be fixed with Helroz's Repair_nv_data.zip Found Here: http://perso.numericable.fr/helroz/P...ir_nv_data.zip
I did not create the software or any of the instructions, THis is credited to Helroz in the vibrant forum (please thank and donate to him) he came up with all of this, Im just sharing knowlage.
this can be found here: Unlocking Tmo Vibrant
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=103
Just read the read me first. then the .Doc Make sure you are at Stock JH7 (I didnt try jf6) and root with busy Box (Super One click by CLShort Fuse worked for me)
Then Step 2,3 and 4. Monitor your phone for SU access attempts, it has several and be patient and read what its asking you to look for,
Now if you havent Backed up your NV_data then now is the time. I Use root explorer and just copy the /efs folder to a safe place (I have a copy on my ext. sd card and a backup hard drive)
You can also Use SGS tools (not SGS tool Box) to do a product code check. This also copies all of the pertenant NV_Data files to a folder on your internal SD card. you can use these also if you want.
Flashing JPP Modem to enable 850
The only guaranteed method for enabling 850 on jpp that is proven to work every time is to:
Flash stock using odin
Flash jg8 modem
Flash rom with jpp modem
Hopping around to other modems and back to jpp after this will kill 850 as well.
For some this is not an issue as they are in areas where 850 is not utilized by AT&T but for others jpp will cause headaches if they try using it without following these steps.
Themes and Graphics
Disable Vodoo before flashing themes like blackfroyo with recovery. (if Running vodoo)
How to change Boot Animation.
1.Find the animation that you want (most be compatible with captivate)
2.Copy bootanimation.zip (it must be named this) with a file explorer that gets you to system files ex. Root explorer to system/media
3.Reboot

Phoenix Patches
All Patches and Fixes attached below
Phoenix 1.5= Email and phone APK. Copy to system/app , clear data in email app and reboot
Email FC after changing email Fix
Thanks to Newter55 for the find
Download the libcamera.so from here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11343737/libcamera.so
Use root explorer or whatever method you prefer and make a backup copy of /system/lib/libcamera.so just in case you need to get it back.
Copy the libcamera.so you downloaded from above link over the existing one in /system/lib.
Delete or rename the existing email.apk in /system/app to test that this fix works.
Reboot phone.
Open Barcode Scanner and enjoy the fact that it no longer force closes.
This will allow people to use whatever email.apk they prefer...or if they are like me they can get rid of the apk altogether.
Ok Guys I wipped out all the Flaming in the thread. I have reopened it after the rules were met.
Here's a quick and dirty conversion to boot animation of that "Operation Phoenix" video if anyone wants it.

Sorry mate, wasn't meant as a flame.
Was just trying to say that there really isn't a leagl ground to try and shut down Phoenix, and I believe I speak for everyone when I say we would rather see you be able to develop Phoenix and make it all it can be, without the threat of a gun to your head.
All aside, I am looking forwards to hear what great things come out in the coming weeks.
Also, make sure you take time off and enjoy New Years with your family!
Yes we may be part of your family, but you gotta look after the RL ones too.

Personally, I have the following:
-Auto brightness (but use Screen Filter for night time)
-I initially had this set, but have since set it back to never sleep. Not really noticing big difference, and where I work and live, both are Wi-Fi already set up in my phone. Plus when Wi-Fi is off, I found my phone syncing would then use 3G on AT&T's stupid ass limited rates....
-Bluetooth off when not using it
-GPS turned off when not using it
-Have not touched the sync frequency
I had terrible battery the first few times, one MAJOR thing to do is go into SGS Tools and ensure you Update Stock Apps --> 3D Gallery
That stock gallery is a known battery raper. After doing that, I had 24hrs uptime and had 63% battery left.
Means I can go 2 days with moderate to medium usage (calls, texts, web browsing, games and App Market)
Gotta be happy with that!

+1 on all the steps but I wasnt aware of the gallery issue. If I read it right, this has the one baked in you reference. I have never gotten battery life to that level but following these steps did help me as well. You must have one bada$$ battery! Good post.
Good news/bad news
Good news, we are not getting shut down. Master's case was not strong enough. Bad news, who am I kidding, there isn't any. We are still moving firmwares though to get up with the times.

Excuse my dumb question but what do you exactly mean by flashing to STOCK before flashing to RC 2.1. Im currently running Axura 1.5.0 CE (i9000UGJK3 / 2.6.32.9)
Does it mean Factory Reset in recovery mode?
Any help would be much appreciated thanks!!!!

safest bet is to flash to JF6 and then go from there! I would rec. making sure you run Rom manager and flash CWM, that will put the update.zip in your sdcard, then flashing to JF6 and just use adb to get into stock 2e recovery. apply update.zip it will boot into CWM and then install rom from there!

After stock conversion:
New MIUI music player:
Changelog:
v2.3 - 2/16/2011
If you just installed 2.1, let it boot once (initial boot) and then reboot in recovery and install the update, or your phone will end up in a vibration loop
This can be installed over 2.2.
Kernel Speedmod K13B
Dialer now has message button instead of voice mail (more useful)
Moded MMS apk included. Supports picture sending with res up to 1280x800, MMS size max 600KB and SMS to MMS conversion is done at 5 SMSs (default value is 4)
Updated system apps; Updated /data apps
Changed Browser icon - hope you like Chrome
Reverted gps drivers to JPY - please report on performance.
Changed AOSP lockscreen font to Sans (check pictures)
Added latest version of MIUI player
Updated the Continuum_content folder
stock_look_Continuum_5locks_circlebat.zip - removes visual and several sound customizations but it preserves the circle battery and the 5 lockscreens mod
Click here for the full change log and feature list
Few important notes:
For update packs from older versions, check the second post
MODEM RECOMMENDATION: Please flash JPY modem, enable WCDMA 850 (by typing *#2263# - COMBI BANDS - WCDMA 850 (FDD V)
[*]. If the star is not there, tap on that line)and see how is battery life. For me is great. If you have battery drain, you might want to do this. If your connection drops, go to settings - wifi settings - mobile networks and set the type of network to the one has most coverage on your area, GSM or WCDMA
You will have in Continuum_content folder, on your sdcard, the following patches:
i897_prop.zip - this will change your phone's name from GT-i9000 to i897. However you will lose access to Samsung Apps. The patch deletes the apk from the system as well and it installs a working version of Swype + QuickOffice (as ThinkOffice will not work anymore with the i897 build.prop)
TwLauncher4iconsDock.zip - well, no explanation needed for this
stock_look_Continuum_4locks_circlebat.zip - removes visual and several sound customizations but it preserves the circle battery and the 4 lockscreens mod
stock_look_Continuum.zip - this will revert your phone's look to Samsung default framework (no extended power menu, no lockscreens chooser)
delete_bloat.zip - this will delete applications considered as "bloat". Below is the update-script content; you can see which apps are being removed:

Installation instructions
Disclaimer: If this shall brick your device, make you break up with your girlfriend, make the cat fly, the TV explode and wipe the mankind from the surface of the Earth, I am not responsible!
The ROM was tested on my Captivate. I installed several times to make sure it behaves.
To exclude one cause of battery drain issues always flash this ROM with FULL BATTERY!
This will wipe your /system, /data, /dbdata, /cache.
Internal/External SDcard will remain untouched.
STEP 0: BACKUP! BACKUP! BACKUP! Use nandroid and Titanium Backup
As well please create a backup of your /efs partition as described here
1. Pull out your SIM and external sdcard!
2. Return to stock (those without 3 button combo, use this) <- If you are coming from another i9000 ROM and if you dont have lagfix enabled, this step is not required.
3. Download the ROM
4. Flash from CWM Recovery.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Old ROM links:
Basic ROM comes with K12H speedmod kernel and I9000UGJL2 modem.
This is JPY deodexed and rooted. Nothing else.
Basic ROM wipe
Basic ROM non wipe
Other old downloads
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Issue list, fixes and tips:
This section is continuously updated
First, if you install a different kernel, don't blame the ROM if you have issues.
If you changed system apps (apks) or framework other than what is posted in this thread, don't blame the ROM or the addon pack for making your phone an useless piece of plastic.
If you changed system binaries (drivers, applications -non apks-), again, don't blame the ROM for temporary killing your device.
You may put up a post with your problem and with the changes you made to the OS by yourself. I will do my best to get you out of the situation but don't first rate the ROM as worse and then leave. Everything can be fixed so give me a chance!
Thanks a lot for understanding.
I cannot uninstall system apps with TitaniumBackup. Why? Because TiBu does not mount the /system as RW. Will discuss this with Joel. Workaround: go to SGS Toolbox and tap on mount /system as rw (read/write) then uninstall the applications you want from TiBu. Restart the phone and you're done.
I cannot take MMS video and send MMS with video attached bigger than 300KB what can I do? Take a look here
Mobile data sometimes not working. Fix: make sure you have an APN for your network by going to Settings - Wireless and network - Mobile networks - Access Point Names
My bluetooth doesn't work: Yes it does!
I'm using it myself.
OMG, there are no animations!!! Yes there are! you have to activate them in Settings - Display – Animations
I have high battery drain on this thing. Take a look here
I would like to try new modems and if possible know some stuff about them. Take a look here
I cannot send MMS. Make sure you have your phone configured with the correct Access Point Name and the correct outgoing server number.
Stock email doesn't work/doesn't support exchange. There are several reports that the email app works fine and this ROM was the only one they could run Exchange on so make sure your provider doesn't play with the towers configuration.
The phone is telling me that I was 50% of the time without signal. Why? This could be related to the modem. I am now testing JK4. If you have this bug download and flash UGJK4 modem . As well, make sure that you have WCDMA 850MHz selected by typing *#2263# - COMBI BANDS - WCDMA 850 (FDD V) [*]. If the star is not there, tap on that line and that should be all.
Alternative: There were reports that with JPY modem, this bug disappeared after enabling 850 band and there were no reception problems plus greatly improved battery life
I dont seem to be able to get a GPS lock on this ROM. What can I do? Check this post
What is Control Plane?? Take a look here
How to:
Calibrate battery: (thanks to TechnicR)
Turn phone off and charge till full
Start recovery and wipe battery stats
Reboot and start the phone
Use it heavily until it turns of by itself
Connect charger and turn on the phone and wait until fully charged
GPS: Here is a my tracks recording. Is short but it shows that the GPS works almost without a fault
Feel:
The ROM feels really smooth on RFS, I am surprised how much improvement Samsung made with their file system in 2.2.1.

This looks awesome. DLing now will post back with findings.
Just so ya know home button haptic feedback is not kernel related its fixed in android.policy.jar. I had it fixed with jpo but haven't gotten it fixed yet for jpu as it seems to be a little different. But if you put in an android.policy.jar from a captivate firmware, you will have haptic on the home button but a bunch of text string errors.
Just letting more people know since I don't have as much time to mess around and fix as I used to. The more people looking at it, the quicker this issue will be fixed for good.

Select the apps you want and hit run batch (top of the screen) once it is finished (you will know as there is a notification in the drop down that it is done) Double check you external sd for the Titanium Backup folder, if it is there then you are good, if not double check the spelling.
If your IMEI says 004999010640000 this is incorrect also and you may find your phone to stop making calls as this is like a debugging or prototype imei

I have a request. Could you skip the GB launcher that seems to be in most roms? Not that I don't like it but being able to drag the phone/messaging/etc buttons around on the dockbar is the most useful thing. TW Launcher is cool. I'm running perception 10.1, one of the main reasons is the launcher
is hardcore's kernel compatible with firefly?
I don't know what u did man, but I'm using Phoenix 3.5 and my GPS has finally worked man, before I get 0 satellites and now I'm getting.like 6/7 in doors! It went from.not working at all ever to smooth has hell.. I can't wait for.firefly, it will get my support/donation

The GB launcher is my favorite. If you have a touch wiz launcher I recommend backing it up. I wish I could accommodate you, but if I do it for you I have to do it for the next. I hope you understand.
I've grown to love Go Launcher, myself.
Looking forward to this, Phoenix 3.5 is pretty awesome! Missed the stock firebird kernel, but I flashed it and its way fast! Great job, looking forward to the latest and great from ya!

If your IMEI says 004999010640000 this is incorrect also and you may find your phone to stop making calls as this is like a debugging or prototype imei

Welcome to SensatioN ROM by Crysis21 – a ROM from another GALAXY
If you like the ROM and SensatioN 2.0 theme, show your support for the project with a small donation, to help me continue my crazy ideas for Galaxy Phones!
In SensatioN ROM you will find a very stable and battery friendly ROM, but with awesome User Interface, featuring SensatioN 2.0 theme, developed specially for this ROM.
Because I wanted to solve once and for all the compatibility problems with different ROMs I decided to bring to life a new ROM along with SensatioN 2, so nobody will have problems applying using the theme.
The development has started on 1’st July and since then I made great efforts to bring SensatioN 2, SensatioN ROM for both Galaxy S and Galaxy S 2. I looked back for all the bugs remained unsolved in SensatioN theme and I tried to find a fix for each of them and mainly I succeeded doing that.
Designing the new theme was a challenge for me, as I had to take care of all the promises I made to the users regarding the visual parts they hated on SensatioN 1 and also I had to take care of my personal taste, as I hate to create something that I don’t like
It may not look much to you, but I have worked for over a month more than 10 hours a day, and If you would like to help me continue the development, show your support with a small donation. Thank you!
With this being said, the features of SensatioN 2 are:

Make sure you back up anything you want to keep.
Recommended procedure for flashing:
- The following steps are only for those who have GB bootloaders ( i9k bootloader is recommended )
1. Download the ROM
2. Put it on SD card
3. Boot your phone to recovery
4. Do a factory reset
5. Do a Cache wipe
6. Do a Dalvik-cache wipe
7. Now install a zip from SD card
8. Select the ROM zip and flash it
9. Reboot and enjoy
- The next steps are for those who are coming from Stock Froyo (or 2.1)
A) Use Odin 1click to return to Stock (JF6) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
B) Flash Stock 2.2.3 i9000 GingerBread WITH BOOTLOADER :
Copy the file to your desktop and unzip it. Use any program you like (ex. 7zip). Inside you will find 6 files: Odin, CSC_NEE_JV3.tar.md5, 9b5f.s1_odin_20100512.pit, I9000_reoriented_vG.1.1_novoo.tar, PDA_XWJVB_Sbl.tar.md5, PHONE_XXJVK.tar.md5.
As you can see the files above are named for the slot they go in. Except for the i9000 file which is xcals Reoriented kernel. so now that you know the tools lets get started.
1. Remove sim card and micro sd and put the phone into download mode.
2. Open odin and plug your phone into your pc. Odin will light up letting you know it sees your phone.
3. Click on PIT it should open the same file Odin is in. Only one option will be available so choose that file. Now look to your left. You will see 3 dots lite up. One for repartition, Auto Reboot, F.Reset Time. They should all be selected. Got it so far? Now click on PDA and select the PDA file. Do the same for the PHONE and the CSC file. Should look like this http://d.pr/Ixt2
4. So you have the files placed in all 4 slots, and and you double checked to make sure they were in the right slots? If so click start. DO NOT TOUCH THE PHONE OR THE CONNECTION UNTIL IT'S DONE. Boot up and let things settle, you now have stock GB. Next you will need to flash the right kernel so auto rotate works correctly.
5. Go back to Odin. If you closed it reopen it. If you still had it open, next to each slot you will see a button, uncheck it to deactivate it. Do this for Phone and CSC. Now Click on PDA and insert the I9000 file. So there should be only 2 files Activated (PIT and PDA) If not make it so.
Remember those dots on the left? Make SURE repartition is not checked. Only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time need to be lit up. This Is VERY important. IF Repartition IS checked at this point you WILL soft brick (clay) your phone, so Make sure it is unselected before you go any further. Ready? When you are power off your phone and put it in Download Mode ( volume down+power) click start on Odin and let it finish. Boot up and let things settle, you will now be on stock GB with auto rotating working.
C) And finally flash SensatioN rom. To make sure you are nice and set go do a Factory Reset, wipe Cache and Dalvik cache in Recovery. (key combos have changed see below on how to enter CWM)
Download the rom and copy it to your phone. Reboot into recovery and flash the rom and enjoy.

New key-combos : Volume Up + Power = Recovery and Volume Down + Power = Download Mode

Known Bugs:
Upon boot the battery icon is missing. To get it back go into Settings/Lockscreen Menu/Statusbar Settings where you'll check and then uncheck the Hide Battery Icon. Wait couple of seconds (max 1 min) and if it doesn't pop up restart your phone.
Browser is laggy and sometimes force closes.Grab a alternative browser from the market (Dolphin,Firefox,...) 'till the update comes.
goodies might come
Neato. Will give this a try shortly. Thanks for your work.

A bit confused. Is this room for the captivate? Asking because, AFAIK, the speedmod GB kernel is available for the I9000 only, right?
sorry, I took the content from the i9000 thread changed now. the kernel used is Talon
Amazing theme, thanks for the all the work put into this.

Before I brick my phone, does this require GB bootloaders?
Looks GREAT, crysis, keep up the good work!

Yes you need GB bootloaders.
amazing, fast, stable, good battery life (dropped 15% in 5 hours, normally dropped about 30%) Great theme, and 4 tab lock screen. I am in love... thank you..
one dumb question, is there any way to change the icon on the 4 tab lock (currently a green circle with EDT in it, rather than a blue circle like the rest of the icons - would love to have a blue circle with a mail envelope ......)

I saw these icons today that look bad. In the next update I will provide new ones. Currently working on some fixes for the theme.
WOW! Great job, looks really nice. I'll try this out as soon as I'm not building and testing my kernel all day on CM7 -_-
I need it... lol when I get home!
can this be flashed directly over serendipity vii? no wipe?
A quick note about your download links- the no wipe version file name is labeled as "wipe" even though it is the proper non-wipe file.
very nice.
