[Q] Android won't boot up, keeps reloading the Quietly Brilliant **** - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

its REALLY grinding my goddamn gears and I'm ready to smash the phone against the wall. It won't boot up anymore into Android, just goes to the white HTC "Quietly Brilliant' screen and KEEPS PLAYING IT, OVER AND OVER.
It worked absolutely fine up till today. Any help? I'm sick of gadgets not working properly. Android worked fine for the past month, why now?

that kind of language won't help. anyway, just do a fresh install. if you haven't done a backup then you're screwed, but it's a risk you have to face.

when was the last time you rebooted into windows and back into android
i get this even after 48 hours of use, so every day i almost backup my phone from windows mobile

lol, then you guys are seriously retarded or doing something completley wrong

You guys never post how you formatted your sdcard. I had this kind of problem in my "early" day(s) of Android, lol.. But reading the stickies allways help, for me the magic medicine was the panasonic sdformatter, since then android never get stuck on bootscreen...
well... smashing the hd2 against a wall would solve your problem to us too
every 48h?! thats madness... torture..

i suspect its the SD card though so probably going to get a new one, probably smaller in size 8GB..
anyways, yes that format program by panasonic doesnt change any **** i face, lol
32kb or 64kb blocks, lol

This can happen when your data.img gets corrupted. This can happen for any number of reasons, but unexpected reboots are probably the cause. I've had this myself and the only answer was to delete it and let it create a new one next restart.
I did, of course, lose everything, so I do regular backups now.

I was in a VERY bad mood, my apologizes. I hadn't slept in about 32 hours when I posted this and this just grinded my gears.
I've done a fresh reinstall (After loosing everything) so I'll check if it fixes everything.

I've had this before, and by deleting the ".android_secure" folder on my sdcard I got it to boot. I doubt this is a wonderfix for everyone, but for me it's worked a couple times, but I do a lot of build swapping, and when I try one build then go back to a build that is now 'not booting' deleting that ".android_secure" folder has worked.

Phone keeps rebooting itself (!!!!)

Ever since the big update (023 or what it was called) my phone reboots its self now and then when I let it sit. It startaed doing it once a week then it started doing it many times a day. 5 days ago I did a repair and it has worked fine until today. It reboots it self again and you're stuck at the pin code.
I've heard that I'm not alone with this problem but few people seem to care. Well I care, A LOT.
How do I fix this.
Obviously it's something SE's done given the fact that it started after the big update.
Im starting to get very tired of this piece of crap and will soon flush it down the toilet. Hang ups, slow interface, reboots, poor screen sensitivity after a while, rediculous sound quality, poor bluetooth support. This is my last SE phone, they're totally incompetent. I tend to use my 9 million year old Nokia handset more than this infernal piece of f**k.
Well .. thanks ..
memory card error ! try copyin all your stuff on your pc then format the card in your phone then copy back worked for me !

Oh FFS dont say that! You will get flamed on here by the kids who think this phone showed apple how to do it.
Slag the X10 of at your own peril! All I did was ask one question and made a comment about 2.1 on the phone and got 3 pages of people phanboying it up.
Your right though the phone is **** and mine is up for sale to get a Galaxy S But thanks for the tip I shall format the card so when I sell it it wont reboot while they are looking at it.
My phone keeps rebooting, and I don't care.
Just kidding. I had this problem before, but it seems to be better now. I was using the program Vault, and I hid away "Backup and Restore" and "SIM Toolkit". After I restored them to normality, I stopped having phone restarting issues.
Also, please don't start a flame war with your complaints about your phone. No one else seems to be having as many issues as you, it is probably something you are doing wrong.

See it's saying thing like that that adds fuel to the flames! Its an open forum so people can express opinions on it yet all I read on here is:
"It's your fault you cant use the phone" this does nothing but incite a retaliation from the poster as if some one said "It's not your girlfriends fault she doesn't cum its yours, I mean she cum for me last night" it would get your back up.
If somebody express an opinion about something does not mean they want a flame war I simply expressed my opinion and agreed with what the OP said.

What do you mean by "I hid away"?. You mean that you just uninstalled Backup & Restore? I have not installed SIM Toolkit whatever that is.
same problem here.
phone reboots once or twice a day and it gets stuck at the pin screen.
this is really annoying.
will try to format the card, and there is another thread were someone said he replaced the battery and the problem was gone.
Found the probable cause of the reboot problem:
Check the "[GUIDE] SIM Card Locks randomly - Howto solve. (rooted SE X10i/a phones only)" in the X10 Anroid Development section.
Try killing Backup & Restore in the Program menu and voilá, the famous SIM card kill bug.
I disabled the SIM card PIN code so it doesn't stick there. The bug is still there but the phone works.
Great work SE - No just kidding - You bunch of amateurs.
well ... the method is for rooted devices, so there is no solution for this yet.
i did format the card to see if i solved anything.
if it reboots when your reading from the card like useing MP3s or looking at photos ! its becuase ther is a bad sector try poping your card in a card reader then let windows tell you there is a error and let it fix this !
i know this sounds stupid but i too had this problem and hav noticed it does it when the battery is at a certain temp (hot) i mite be wrong !!! or is it just a coincidence
Well... formating the card does not help.
Any other ideas?

Do you use a taskkiller? If so stop killing 'backup and restore' .

You don't need a taskkiller on Android. The whole problem with this bug is that people are trying to kill apps/services that shouldnt be killed in the first place.
This is a firmware bug...
I have had a similar problem... however my phone is a new one from the SE repair facility in Poland. It has the latest firmware and the phone exhbits the rebooting with no SIM or SD card installed. The problem also doesn't appear to be related to battery temperature as it can also occur from cold.
I will try an unbranding and see if the same issue exists.

I am not using any task killer.
Mine just started rebooting itself today too after owning it for two weeks. Have been updated to firmware 026 rooted for a few days and notice it only does it when the battery reaches lower than 50%. Gonna re flash it tomorrow and re root it. Reformat the sd card. Will update on if it keeps rebooting.

That did't do the trick for me. Taskkillers will force the bug to trigger, so will the backup & restore program (that seems to runt constantly).
The fix would be to: FIX THE FREAKING BUG IN THE BACKUP & RESTORE PROGRAM, or simply delete it (which is impossible now).
Idiot SE.
Well, it seems mine is rebooting too.
I don't know how often... i just saw it once... out of the blue.
Phone was in standby when happened.
I watching tv and i saw the display turned on with the boot animation and then i figured out what happened.
I uninstalled the backup tool with Titanium. Let's see...

[Q] Auto Reboot/Restart Issue/problem on android boot

Hi there! after googling a lot, and looking here and there around the forum's threads, i found no solution to this one....
I'm quite new at all this so i might not make myself clear enough.
I am using stock winmo HD2 Rom (the october 2010 ROM Update for EU) with 2.15 radio version.
So far have tried only Mdeejay's roms yet still i will try the rest to confirm the problem exists.
So on the first load of any of the version's i've tried (even after swapping kernels and trying different sizes of data.img file) android boots perfectly, runs amazingly smooth, fast, battery long lasting and so on (thanks to MDJ for all this), yet! i've seen many people have the same problem: After some random time (maximum of a few minutes) the phone reboots automatically thus taking you back to winmo.
It's not that i don't like winmo, it's just that i thought someone had found a solution to that.
So.... any clues?
mine is more of, turns off automatically. I thought the battery is dead (or the batt meter/notification is inaccurate) only to find out that it just turned off automatically.
have you tried checking the Q and A section rather than the Development thread???
2 solutions = Format sd card. if problem still persists than you need a custom winmo rom. I suggest elegancia. My setup in my signature runs without a hitch
iv never expierience this, i do get the coma bug, but iv heard a newer radio fixes that so im about to update mine

I have the same problem.
At first the reboot was performed afeter a while, from 30 to 15min, and then it quickly began to reboot after a short time, around 5min. Now, the reboot is performing during the loading process of Android.
My winmo ROM is an Energy 23699 from 24th Nov, but the problem was present while I was in Energy ROM 21xxx from October one month ago.
My Radio is 2.07.50_27.2 flashed 5months ago, no issue with it.
My Android ROM is the llast Froyo with Sense from Darkstone (17th october).
I didn't formatted my SD Card because I wanted to know if there was some boot log somewhere in order to check the problem.

I am satisfyingly using android on my HD2 using a stock ROM.
I guess that the problem exists on using some of Android Kernels on some HD2s
I found my solution by using "evo carbon remix" currently using v.0.3.1 with Hastarin r8.2
I have not updated nor nothing, having a great battery life and all looking more or less the same as Mdeejay's rom.
I hope this works for you too!
@jsacp : Thank you for the advice, I will try later when I will 100% switch to android.
Well I think I have found the problem. My data.img was 256Mo and I have installed a lot of applications lately, maybe I ran over memory. I replaced the 256Mo data.img with the 1Go data.img which was present in the archive of my Android ROM, and Android didn't have reboot since then. But, of course, I lost all my setup, preferences and applications, I knew it before doing the jump, but glad to see Android back on my HD2
Hope it can help.
Did you notice if your phone feels hot at all? Last time I had a reboot I was downloading stuff with the phone plugged in and it got really hot and restarted. Was an older kernel tho and I think it happened when ppp connection got stuck.

When I undervolt my phone too much, it starts randomly rebooting as well.
My guess is that mdeejay's undervolt is too much for your phone.
Try a ROM with hastarin's kernel, it will probably end the random reboots.
How to fix Android phone automatic rebooting problem
Recently my phone got into trouble, it kept restarting. I had to get out of the boot loop error. My phone was HTC Desire 1818 runs on Android Bravo. I was really frustrated because I had many valuable phone contacts in my phone. I searched everywhere on the, I couldn't find any solution at that time, so the only solution in front of me was to format my phone!. Oh.!.. Error fixed by formatting, but my all data on the phone including my valuable phone numbers lost. After 7 or 8 months my phone again got in to the same auto restarting trouble when I installed WhatsApp in my phone. It was really irritating me to encounter these sorts of wretched errors on Android. But at this time I found a good solution. This solution is available and applicable for all Android phones, and Tablets regardless of models and companies.
The solution is simple, Simply Switch on your Android device in 'Safe Mode'

1st off never, ever, ever, ask for help in all caps. It's ugly, rude, and hurts my eyes. Help us help you, ok ? Your data.img is most likely corrupted. Go to SD:/"Android Build Name'/data.img <-------Delete that file and try again.
Format the SD card and put a fresh copy of android on it.
i'll be surprised if someone's willing to read that, let alone answering.
edit: you're lucky there's many kind people here.

you are lucky people have helped. as previously stated, never post in all caps.
also, why did you post this in development? did you not read the rules of this forum? very very noobish of you to do this.
there is a Q&A section for android/HD2 ... i suggest you use it, and dont come back to development.....
Do you have your android files on the root of the card or in the Android folder as they are supposed to be?
Examine the startup text file. If it has this line
set cmdline ""
change it to this line
set cmdline "nand_boot=0"
Give that a try before you loose everything by formatting or deleting your data.img.
Then go to your dad and tell him what a wrong thing you did by posting in caps, using horrible English, and posting in the wrong section and have him beat your ars so you will understand better next time.
aight. my bad about the all caps. eternally grateful for those of you who answered anyway. I just wasnt sure who ans the q&a and who answers gen discuss and so on. I wanted to hear what I was doing wrong straight from the horses mouth: the developers. my bad again.

I have had this happen where you reboot and the phone hangs on the HTC screen. I try to limit the number of battery pulls I have to do as IMHO it can not be good for the data on the SD card that is mounted when you pull the battery. (Kill power to your computer enough times while it is running and weird things begin to happen)....
Please note that after a battery pull and a restart it always worked the second time.... See my sig as to what I am currently running.... The best efforts so far IMHO. Everything works; I have not needed a battery pull yet.....
I would suggest reformatting 2 times after deleting (preferably shredding) data on your SD card. Then reinstall fresh......
Then enjoy.....
Also, post future issues in Q&A. Believe it or not you will do better there than the Dev section.
Good Luck.

Try to connect you phone to your computer as a disk drive. Right click drive. Go to properties then tools then do a disk check and check for bad sectors also. Takes a while but has solved this issue for me in the past.

I'm actually having the same problem. I've tried 2 different andriod builds, with the same problem. Runs great the first time, but subsequently won't get past the HTC screen after rebooting. Checked the Startup file, it's ok. Running Radio 2.10.50.08_2 , Duttys Leo HG V0.4 WWE Rom. Currently formatting the SD card to try again from scratch, and after that will try Radio 2.15.XXX
Is there anything else I should look for?
Thanks
Andy
UPDATE--- Well following a complete format of the SD card, I loaded the MDeeJay - Froyo_SenseV2.4Clean andriod build and it successfully rebooted. I am about to rety the process with the MDeeJay_Froyo_Revolution_V1.7 again to see if the format made the difference.

Random Power Offs / Reboots

I'm experiencing avery annoying problem with my phone. It's been happening for some time now, and I've tried all sorts of different things to fix it.
The phone completely randomly restarts, or just powers off totally. This happens at least a few times a day on average, and sometimes has a crazy spurt where it restarts itself like, 5 times in an hour. This is very annoying when I get my phone out to check if I have any texts, and it's totally dead or sat on the ChuckyDroid Winmo screen. People text me 3 hours later, asking why I didn't reply to their messages, or they have been trying to ring me!
I have tried everything I can think of. I have tried at least 10 different Android ROMS, and a few different Winmo ROMS. I have tried every radio from 2.08.x to 2.15.x and I have also Task29'd the phone, then started afresh. It still does it.
Any got any ideas what could be causing it? Is it possible it's a faulty battery? I am beginning to think this as it never seems to do it if I have the phone plugged into charge, either from USB or mains. If people think the battery is probably knackered, I'll go onto Fleabay and buy a new one, but I don't want to do this if people don't think that's the issue.
Thanks in advance... I hope people can help, as this issue is totally unworkable for me.
Cheers
That doesn't seem like a battery issue to me, rather SD related.
As you have already tried about everything: full formatting your SD card should fix it. There are some more advanced ways of formatting, in case the Windows (full! not the default quick) format still doesn't do the trick.
Hm.. I'm pretty sure I've run a full format of the SD card before, but I'll certainly do it again when I get in and test out the theory.
Thanks for your reply mate
I also had this problem(s) with Froyo... suddenly my phone rebooted...
However.. since i'm on Gingerbread... the problem didn't occur anymore..
Maybe you can try a Gingerbread build to see if the problems still occur...
I can give that a try too. I know there's a lot still to be worked on the Gingerbread build, but if it's more stable then that's good.
The MDJ Gingerbread build is pretty stable.
Well, thanks for your efforts guys, but no joy. I full formatted the SD, flashed 2.15.50 to my phone, then ran MDJ Gingerbread... I think it lasted about 4-5 hours before it started restarting itself again. So screw this, I'm going back to Winmo until NAND is ready. Winmo might be crap, but at least it's reliable. Totally pissed off now, to be honest.

[Q]HD2 Boot issue

Hi everyone,
I've got some problems with my good old HD2 but I don't really understand what happened and I'd like to know if some people could help me.
My HD2 was running successfully under WP7/Android, but I wanted to go back to WinMo 6.
It was very hard to flash it (never had so much problem), even with the official rom : long to boot, then animated HTC bootsplash freezing, reboot, displaying first bootsplash without red-written informations... frozen.
Only one solution : wait for a long time without the battery then it was successfully working. But if I had to reboot : freezing in the same way. (with official and custom roms).
Unfortunately, Marketplace were down the day I installed WinMo, so unabled to install my apps.
So I wanted to try new tango roms > 1E FATAL HIT.
If I let the phone cooling down it works again, but if I'm surfing the web my HD2 comes really warm (hard to touch the bottom without burning my fingers), restarts himself and > FATAL HIT...
Any idea ?
(Still the same sd card)
It's been a long time since he last overheated that way.
When I received it, I had some troubles to first charge it. The led turned orange for 1or2 minutes and then went off. I used a fan under the phone and it charged for the first time. Since then only overheating while flashing or under first wp7 roms. No warranty anymore.
I'm sure that the hd2 temperature makes the Fatal hit.
Thank you for your ideas

Maybe you should use task29, wipe the whole system clean, and flash lighter roms such as hyperdroid or any cyanogenmod or MIUI rom you like. Download a task manager too and see what is eating up your memory. Hope it helps.

Hi,

I did a few t29 in order to flash back winmo and then magldr, but it didn't change anything.
In fact, even the first boot in wp7 to configure the phone makes it reboot and the phone is a bit warm in only 2 minutes

It's a hardware problem which you really can't fix unless you're willing to take the phone apart. It's a fairly dangerous process and it's likely that unless you have a good amount of knowledge about the subject you'd break your phone completely.
Oh no I was fearing that kind of answer...
But why when WinMo or Android are running, it works well ?
The hardest part is booting (after a few restart freezing and errors), then it's rather ok.

I'm not really sure, but the phone should never heat up enough to freeze, even when in intensive use Sorry, but I don't think your HD2 has much life left in it
Thanks for your reply.
I think it happens every summer since I have it (2years) but I'd be sad to loose my hd2. I'm really proud to have bet on it, sure that it would be the best phone of all time, and it really is.
Brought me the best version of Windows Mobile ever, then Android, and finally Windows Phone.
I don't think there will be any other phone that could do that. It was powerfull (as much as the ones that are released today), and was out just in the good year (when htc was switching to Android and WP but using the HD2 as a reference, making us able to run everything.

I had the same problem, you can try this:
1. Remove the battery from the HD2 and check the middle pin of the row of 3 that should touch the Battery connections. This middle pin is probably offset to the front or even croocked.
2. Gently bend the middel pin back and straight up. (be careful not to break it)
3. Check if all pins are straight up now.
4. Gently reinstall your battery and recharge to full.
With me this happens every few months when I f** too much with the battery and it gets extremely hot. After this bending back its all OK and no heat problem anymore.
