[REQUEST] Settings in notification bar a la Galaxy S/Cyanogen - Streak 5 General

Hi All, well, mainly Steve...
Is there any way of baking settings toggles (wifi, bt, gps, vibrate, rotation) into the streak notification bar as it is in the Galaxy S series phones?
Cyanogen have successfully pulled it off with their rom, just curious to see if it can be done with the Streak.
Thanks,
Krisbo

Try cyanogen rom for streak. Its alpha at the moment but thats the best option
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App

+1 to that request! I'd love to see the settings toggles in the notification bar.
The Cyanogen ROM for the Streak does have the it, but it's not exactly useable on an everyday basis still being in alpha. I've tried it already and can't live with the fact that it doesn't work in portrait mode! I use the Streak mostly in portrait mode. Will probably switch to it once it goes into beta/RC stage and all the major issues are sorted out.

I use the notification bar toggles from friedflow. Sure, you only get Auto-Rotate, Wifi and Bluetooth, but it's better than nothing. Looks pretty sleek, does the job nicely. ^_^
Check it out on the market.
Some guys also use Bar Tender or some of those things to put links to the quick settings app in the notification bar, but that's kind of inelegant and not really my thing. But it's a two-click solution if that suits?
Hope that helps!
Take care,
Oli

[Q] Orientation lock on notification bar?

I watched the video of the 2.2 software for the galaxy s and noticed they had an "orientation lock" button in the quick launch buttons at the top of the notification bar. I absolutely hate the automatically switching orientation setting but there is definatly times i need to use the phone in landscape and its a pain to switch it. I am wondering if this is something that is possible to add to our current software? i searched but couldnt find anything for this for the vibrant.
anyone have any ideas how to implement this? or is it something that well just have to wait and see if its an option when we get 2.2.
thanks
-jake
Would be nice, and i like how the Euro is Vibrate rather than Silent. I could do away with the Bluetooth for a auto lock. Wish Cyanogne would pick that up.
Yeah, the rotation of Android pales compared to the iphone. It's always been disappointing to me.
Have you tried Curvefish's rotation widget in the market? It's free and a very nice looking 1x1 toggle switch.
Use switch pro widget.
The ability of accessing it in the notifications bar is what I want.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Download Quick Settings in the market. Basically it gives u the option to keep it in the notification bar and access the orientation change (and ever single other setting) with a swipe and 2 clicks.
I promise u will not find a more convenient solution. The app is definitely Top 10 in the entire market.

[Q] Notification Bar - How do I change it back to the default?

I installed LauncherPro on my S7, but I would like to figure out how to change the notification bar to something more like the stock one. I like the way the notification bar works on my Epic 4G, but I haven't figured out how to do this on the S7.
Anyone know how to accomplish this?

check the bottom of the tutorial
Code your own rom for the S7.
The notification bar is the way it is and without re-writing the OS, you're not going to be able to change it.
I find that tapping to drop it down works better than sliding. It was really painful on my other resistive Android tablet.
I did follow the instructions from the post. My expectation of that was that I would have the normal notification bar. However, that isn't the case.
I'm not really into making a custom ROM for the notification bar. The funny thing is that now that I've used the stock notification bar, I'm getting used to it. The back button at the left side of the bar is actually pretty nice to use. As I'm an old Palm/Pocket PC/Windows Mobile guy, I like using a stylus and the back arrow is actually OK. I just think that the thing is too big.
Thanks,

Change brightness with the notification bar.

I don't know whether it's because of Froyo, or the theme that I'm currently on (which is the REDbread theme), but by sliding my finger left or right on the notification bar, I can make the brightness go down and up. I randomly found this out and thought about sharing the info. And yes, I know other Galaxy S phones have it, but this is fairly new for us Fascinate owners isn't it?
yeah it doesn't work on eclair, that was the first thing I tried when I got this phone cuz I saw it on all the other Galaxy S devices
I wish I could disable it. I keep my phone at the lowest brightness setting, and since 2.2 I keep accidentally turning it brighter with the notification bar.
Mine doesnt do it and id actually like to turn it down a little. Im running adw ex, stock theme. Im on 2.2, is there a setting to enable it?
Edit: held it down until drop down went back up and then it worked. I also use the auto.
thats actually pretty cool. never even knew about this feature. doesn't really matter to me since i use auto-brightness, but still a cool feature. glad samsung is adding small things like this to make the phone better.
I have my phone set to auto brightness, would this be why I can't adjust it by the notification bar? Also, why you would want to always adjust it yourself? I don't seem to see why I want that detailed control.
sent from Froyo'd Super-Clean Fascinate!
Wow this is cool!!
This would explain why my screen is brighter for some unknown reason sometimes.

[Q] Notification Tray BT, Wifi, and Mute

Coming from my Cyanogen Nexus One, im starting to miss things. The most missed thing is the quick toggle of Bluetooth, Wifi, Mute, and Airplane mode that were in CM 6.1.1 under the Notification Tray.
Anyone know what that program was called? Of course it is possible that it wont even work on the Atrix.

Its part of the rom, and not a seperate app. Of course, you could dig through the CM sources and see what that is, and then see if you could port it.
Get beautiful widgets, they have an entire set of toggle widgets that allows you to do this quickly.
They also have an excellent clock/weather homescreen widget.

you don't even need that, there is a stock android power control widget. the point is, in cyanogenMod, you could pull down the status bar and toggle those from any app. so you could turn on GPS without leaving maps, or unlock screen rotation without leaving the web browser. It was really handy.

Come on guys... You got the phone 3 minutes ago.. Please don't start this. Give it some damn time. I'm pretty sure Cyanogenmod will be up in a few weeks. It's not like the Nexus One got Cyanogenmod in day -1. Seen as the phone is not suppose to be even out yet.

Are we really all having this conversation again? The bootloader is signed...nobody's going to be designing custom kernels anytime soon. Once the key is found or another exploit is found...sure. Until then? no dice.

Wasn't trying to talk down the Atrix, just fully explain the feature from CM.
I'll be happy when AT&T flips my data service back on again so i can actually set up the phone and use it. Kinda dead in the water right now.

Yeah, I was just trying to cheer you guys up. We'll have some custom roms up and running soon.
Get switchPro Widget. that way you can make 7 shortcuts on your homescreen to enable/disable GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, Mobile Data, Sync, Silent/Vibrator and airplane mode just to mention a few.
Guys, the idea is to have it in the Notification Tray, not on my homescreen.
Also, im not asking for a custom Cyanogen Rom. Just because there are people on here that complain every 5 minutes, dont get an attitude with everyone. It was a general question about if it is a program. It is not. End of story.

The Samsung Galaxy S phones have it and it is a great feature. The idea of widgets or the power control widget is not the same as it takes up space on the screen - having a list of shortcuts at the top of the notification area is simple and elegant.
My solution is to use quick settings (app store) it has a notification tray icon (you can hide it unless you pull down the tray) that lets me get to a set of toggles.
BarControl will let you put any app in the bar.. I use it with ToggleWifi and Bluetooth mode for notification bar toggles on a stock N1

widgetsoid is another option also.

Annoyances/Bugs in Samsung Jelly Bean (DLH7) update

To be honest, I really love this update. So many new things! Made me feel like I have bought a new phone all over again. But there are a few issues..
1- Grey statusbar. Why Samsung changed it from black? God knows why
2- Background in the toggles panel in "Notification pull-down", [not the color of toggles itself]. It feels so out of place. The color doesn't match Touchwiz color scheme.
3. WiFi has very slow speed, and can't maintain connection. <<< this is the killer bug for me!
4. Browser will force close (FC) when users try to go to bookmark selection.
5. Help app is very weird. The "step-by-step" guide (e.g for WiFi) is pointing to the wrong location. This is maybe caused by the major changes that Samsung has done to the Settings app. If this bug is still present in final release, then many people will complaint, especially the non-technical one. Samsung made that "easy home screen mode" for a reason, to help those new smartphone users. That "Help" app was supposed to go hand-in-hand with the new Home screen mode.
6. Phone will vibrate even though there is nothing happening, no notification whatsoever.
-Possible causes are WiFi error, and apps FC.
7. New widgets (the white one) are great, only that it doesn't match the color scheme of the old widgets.
-Most of old widgets are in black, e.g Music player, FM radio, Mono Audio, Negative colours. The new widgets, e.g Dialer, Favorite apps, Favorite contacts, Favorite settings, Messaging and Simple alarm clock widgets are all in white. Only two of the new widgets retain the black color scheme of the old widgets, which are the "turn off all sounds" and the "smart switch" widgets.
8. AC charging is very slow, did not test USB charging but some users said it's slow too.
9. Battery draining.
-This might be caused by mediascanner that's constantly running in background, and scanning without stopping.
-Other possible cause is the random vibration bug (point #6) which makes the phone awake so often.
10. Touchwiz is very unstable.
-Sometimes, folder will not close and stays on every homescreen I go (sorta like Pop Up Play).
-Seldomly, app shortcut (or icon or whatever you want to call it) will be replaced with an invisible icon that takes up space. Touchwiz will FC if I try to put an app shortcut to that empty space.
I might add more when I found it, I'm using Omega v16.1. Hopefully this post will help someone, especially those who want to upgrade but can't make up their mind whether they should or not, and not to forget Samsung development team (damn you cunning bastards, LOL!) :silly:

Relax, man. I labeled this thread with very specific title, to discuss bugs in Samsung DLH7 update. The fact that I mentioned "bugs" means I know the rom is still not an official rom, that is leaked to public. You gained nothing by being a prick in the online world.

I know about both fixes because I have been reading posts in Omega thread discussing the latest custom rom (Omega v16). I just want to make a thread with all bugs I found (that shouldn't need fixing in the first place), so that it will give others (that is still on ICS rom but wants to try JB rom) some kinda warning, before flashing.

Keyboard bug annoying, and the fact that there hasn't been an extended power menu created as yet for it (not really a bug but missing none the less)

Also got no keyboard bug and about extended power menu, wanam lite has it
Also maybe point to the already present solutions to the browser and WiFi bug and show the positive aspects as well, like the smoothness etc.

Since its a beta, bugs are expected. However, I feel that LH4 and LH6 were much better than LH7. LH7 is bit slower and ram leaks. Also I don't like that why voice commands are merged into s-voice again.
Not got an opinion on leaked test roms that are not the final build .

Vibration not working always.. I've ticked sound with vibration.

i think the random vibrations seem to be events like wifi connecting and disconnecting. it took me a while to figure that out.
also seems to be a bug with the gmail notifications. when you collapse the notification it shows the text as partially is cut off instead. not quite sure how to explain it. but it was working properly in LH6.
they are either changing a lot of things and testing, or they keep doing things which ends up breaking something else.
