For whatever reason DK28 causes my touchscreen to randomly stop working. Stock DI18 does not have this problem at all.
I would just go back to DI18 permanently until the 'official' froyo comes out from Samsung, but I need the froyo gmail app for work over the holiday. This means I'll be using a phone, that while stable in every other respect, will randomly stop responding to touchscreen inputs. I fix it by putting phone in standby and waking it back up. This usually allows me to use it for a while longer.
Anyone else have this problem, or possibly know what might be the cause of it?

It seems to happen after the phone has been on for an extended amount of time. I don't have lag, and I'm not using the gps when it happens. In fact, it usually happens when I sleep. Has anyone else experienced this? My phone is not modified. I'm even running plain touch whiz. I'm considering returning if I can't resolve with a hard reset. No third party apps are running when this occurs. I routinely close processes before I stop using the phone. I love this phone, I'm just worried I have a bad unit.
i'm having a similar issue, but with a rooted vibrant. the problem has spanned across two different handsets. the first one i rooted almost out of the box. but after a few days it started locking up after sitting for a while and i would have to pull the battery to get it to come back on. so i returned it, got a new one and held off rooting it to see if this one would do the same thing. the non rooted one had no problems at all, so i bit the bullet and rooted this one too, and sure enough later that same day it started doing the same freezes when trying to unlock it.
as soon as i rooted the second phone i downloaded rom manager and made a nandroid backup. after the backup i proceeded to remove some of the bloat, like dual clock, the startup/shutdown sounds, and some of the other crap that the vibrant comes with. i also installed and started up setcpu. it seemed that after i did all of this is when the freezes started up again. so i did a restore to before i removed all that stuff and now the phone is fine again. what is it about my process that is making this phone lock up like this?
EDIT: nevermind...i found some other people with the same problem in a setcpu thread...seems setting the sleep profile too low will cause the phone to not wake up after sitting too long
Uh, I'm not getting any freezing, but I know there is an issue with SetCPU. A certain setting will causes problems on the Vibrant. My issue is just unexpected reboots after the phone has been on for approximately 170 hours.
I had many random restarts and general craziness from my non rooted stock vibrant. A factory restore fixed all problems.

Yeah, if it happens again I'm going to try a factory reset.

I updated my phone manually through Mini Kies.
Before the update with or without OCLF applied, the phone would never freeze. Since I've applied the update the day before yesterday, the phone has locked up three times. Basically what happens is, the screen will, well, freeze, and my button presses do absolutely nothing, I hit the back button- phone vibrates, does nothing, same with home button. To power it off I either hold the power button for 5-10 seconds, I have not yet had to pull the battery. HOWEVER. This last time it froze, I powered down the device but the phone would not turn back on. I pulled the battery from the phone and inserted it back in and after doing so my phone powered back on with no problem. It's a bit concerning though. Probably the worst thing about all of this is the fact that my phone runs great! Fast and responsive, GPS seems to be spot on. Except about once a day since the update, it freezes.
Any ideas? I have no experience with modding/flashing anything so I get really nervous with things like installing custom roms. I was thinking I could roll back the update and then re-do the update. I doubt I'd get the update OTA though, I updated my girls device OTA and she has had no problems so far.
I was even considering flashing Bionix, but again, very nervous to do so. I even had trouble just creating a nandroid backup! I couldn't get into clockwork recovery to do so.
Can anyone just baby me with this? Tell me where to start?
Thanks :/
I would suggest you flash back to stock firmware using Odin.
Go into the Development section and look at the directory sticky. There is a link in there for a thread on how to go back to stock firmware.
Once you flashed back to stock, i suggest using it on stock for a day or two to make sure the phone work correctly. Once you verified the phone working then try to update to JI6 again via Kies mini.
Other than that you can start to mess around with flashing different custom firmware and mods. It hard to brick the phone since you can always go into download mode and odin back to stock.
Be adventurous! Good luck!
would you suggest that I go back to stock before trying to flash bionix?

You should go to JFD then to JI6. Freezing isn't normal, I don't have any freezing. If it was randomly freezing there would have been a 10 page thread on it already.
I've also had it freeze twice on me. Went from rooted Stock to JI6 using Odin. /shrug
Same issue after applying JI6 OTA. I unrooted before applying the OTA, but have now reapplied OCLF with stock.
Same issue. Frozen hard twice. Browser exits randomly. Battery drains about twice as fast as before JI6.
I went from fresh Stock to JI6 via Odin. I don't know if I can wait for Froyo. I may just go back to stock again, even with the broken GPS.
I bet the OP has a bunch of apps installed.
A lot of people are blaming the update, but I'm almost sure there are many rogue apps in the marketplace, because last night I was getting freezes and after I uninstalled all the apps I don't actually need (or use very frequently) all of the freezing just stopped. The phone runs smoothly now. And removing those apps + removing the Task Manager widget from one of my screens increased my battery life by ~200%.
I installed BioNix 1.9.1 (with JI6) and I'm still getting occasional freezes, but I'm wondering if they are due to Angry Birds which I installed at the same time as my original JI6 OTA update. I'm seeing some reports (forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid/38906-freezes-weird-stuff-angry-birds.html) , but I have no idea if this is a valid idea.
Anyone else seeing freezes with JI6, but not angry birds?
I've also been having freezing problems, and I think they're GPS related.
The last time was last Friday. I was driving down to Washington DC using my phone for turn-by-turn navigation, and it froze about 1/3 of the way there. I had to pull the battery out to restart. When I got to my destination, I was using Maps and then the browser, and while the GPS icon was on the notification bar, telling me it was trying to find my position, my phone froze again. Again, I had to pull the battery out. Both happened within around a 1.5-2 hour period. I realized it may be due to the GPS, so I turned off GPS right away. It's now Monday afternoon and my phone hasn't frozen since.
So I flashed DK28 this morning and have run into a major issue. Everything works wonderfully for a while it seems. But it the screen shuts off for approximately fifteen minutes or more, the phone seems to become totally unresponsive. The power button does not wake it and when I slide open the keyboard, nothing seems to happen (phone doesn't lock and keyboard backlight doesn't light up). I'm forced to do a battery pull and reboot.
I have never experienced this with any other version of the Froyo or Eclair ROMs. I've tried both wiping and reflashing (both the DK28 modem and ROM).
Anyone else having this issue? Anyone know why this might be?
My wife has a completely stock Droid X and she always has the weirdest issues with her phone with it locking up, freezing or hanging up..
Sometimes the phone recovers, other times it needs to be rebooted manually.
Is this a known issue with this phone?? I have the HTC incredible and have no issues like this.
I havent had a problem or heard of this. Is she under warranty and get it swapped out? If not has she tried to do a wipe/factory reset? While off hold the power and menu key at the same time. A screen will come up. press the search button. Use the volume keys to scroll up and down. Go to wipe/factory reset and press the camera button.
My wife has a stock D2, and it sometimes likes to open up the voice search, or she will be typing a text message, and the g key will open the browser to google.com, or just randomly freeze up..... Maybe women have a different body chemistry that acts like a mini EMP that just destroys all electronics.... Everything electronic she has ever owned has major problems, yet mine last years........
Droid X freezing - having to battery pull.
I've been having similar issues with my Droid X. It will randomly, and often, lock up for a while, then come back to life usually. It's really annoying if your browsing the web and all the sudden the phone freezes for 20-30 seconds.
When it freezes completely, it will just freeze and the screen will remain on. I have to then pull off my protective cover and battery pull to reboot.
Battery pulls happen about once every 2-3 days. Freezes that recover are happening 5 or 6 times a day if not more.
The brief time I had the phone on stock, the issue was occuring. I ignored it and figured surely this won't happen after I root it. I'm now running latest Liberty ROM and it's still happening. Problem definately gets worse if I overclock. I'm wondering if the CPU can't even handle 1000 Mhz and needs to be underclocked just so this thing can run stable.
I'm going to test that out and see if the weird freezing and force closes go away. But it will suck loosing speed.
I unfortunately can't return my phone as I bought it used on Craigslist.

Its likely due to the fact that the stock Droid x firmware sucks a load of ass. The factory blur is perhaps the biggest waste of time I've ever seen. I've had both my dinc and fascinate and x since launch day and the only remedy I've found to stop the x from doing this is flash livery. Only way to fix it at all.

Yeah man sounds like you have a bad device. If a data wipe/reset wont do it you must have a have bad device . Go back where you got it and ask for an exchange

Before reading all of this....note that this is just me providing a POTENTIAL explanation of why some people's phones seem to reboot more than others... this is not a generalization for all... It may not apply to you...
I think that random reboots (especially often) are related to potentially bad hardware, not being on the 2.3.34 OTA update...or user error (don't get mad, please let me explain this part!). I found that after moving off of 2.3.15 OTA that my phone was much more stable.
I notice from back when I first had my Droid X that I went crazy loading up lots of apps, and throwing widgets all over my home screens... I had custom themes flashed and lots of other stuff. While yes, blur does suck up more system resources than custom ROM's without it... you can run a phone with Blur without constant reboots.
The more apps that you have on the phone (even if not running) eat up resources. Along with that, the more widgets or notifications you have on your homescreens, the more resources that the phone is chewing through... With that said, you can SEEM to not be running anything on the phone, but the widgets in the background process' can be using up precious memory that cause the phone to lag or reboot.
Like I said at the beginning, if you don't have a lot of extra widgets and programs loaded, then yes, I would say that really sucks that your phone reboots. Moto's way of handling a resource issue (in most cases RAM)... is to reboot the phone to clear memory.
If you happen to have a lot loaded on your phone...try not to use a lot of widgets, and cut back on some un-needed apps... See if the phone reboots as often. Again, this is not me blaming anyone for their phone rebooting, simply my understanding of technology from personal experience.
Ok odd thing keeps happening. My epic will randomly power off but will not power back on until i do a battery pull. I am currently running 2.2.1 RandomRom 2.2 Final EC05. I dont think it is the rom but who knows. Any Ideas would be great! Thanks Everyone in advance.
Do you use setcpu or anything like that? Some phones dont like to run below 200mhz.

Nope not running anything. It only does it when the phone is not charging. If its on the charger it stays on. If i pull it off the charger it could turn off 20min to 3 hrs later.

My last one did that, but it was because I dropped it. Have you ruled out a hardware problem?
Posted by Mr. Z's Epic 4G via Tapatalk
Not that i know of. Its never been dropped. I wonder if i should factory reset and start all over. I just dont know what else it could be.
It's most likely that it's a third party app causing the issue.
That said, the best way to exonerate the software is to ODIN to the stock EC05. If it does it with that, it's probably a hardware issue. If it doesn't, it's probably a ROM or kernel issue.
P.S. it's humorous that RandomROM might be causing RandomREBOOTS.
Haha.....yea. I liked it at first but guess its back to finding something new.
Yeah I'm having a similar problem also but only recently like no more then a couple weeks... my phone doesn't shut down completely but it randomly restarts itself and the ODD thing is that when it would power back up it would be in AIRPLANE mode. No matter how many times I tryed to disable airplane mode it just would not turn off! Even after I would shut down my phone and power back up it was still in airplane mode. So I took out the battery for a couple of seconds and put it back in, powered up and every thing works fine again... its only happened about 3 times I'm running that new gingerbread leak so that might be the issue but I've been rnning it for a while now and only recently had this problem with the phone.
I run ACS Frozen 1.2 have the same issues, I've had the same issue since froyo sourced roms have come out.... phone randomly powers off..... only happens maybe once or twice a week. It happened extremely more frequently before I changed back to RFS and turned journaling on. It didn't completely correct the problem, but it helped a lot.
Nothing like waiting for a text back from your GF only to find out that your phone has turned off sometime in the last hour since you sent out a text. I call it "The Samsung **** Block"
this happens to me sometimes, if you have journaling off, something might be corrupted. when the phone tries to access the corrupted data it puts the phone in an infinite loop, you might notice a huge decrease in battery life when you do reboot. A fresh clean install is the best way to fix it.
