Port Meizu M9 ROM to N1 | Awesome UI! - Nexus One General

I know many people would enjoy this ROM, it's kind of like MIUI. The engineering rom was just recently released for the Meizu M9.
It can be downloaded here -
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J3ZZ3AA2
I also found this xip.bin + LBE_Android Folder (don't know if it's of any help or not): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NCZ8NKHB
I was hoping someone could try and port this to N1. It would definitely be a top ROM (I read that it support English by default, though i maybe wrong)

I've always hated MIUI for some reason; maybe it's because as a dual iPhone user it kind of felt like a poor man's iOS. But this? This looks incredibly polished. I mean very, very polished. Would like to see how it looks but I know that the inconsistency between this and other Android apps will break the effect.
Edit: I'd personally would like to see someone take the current Android creative direction and polish up what's already there.

Agree, I hate MIUI because of its wannabe iPhone look, but this just looks freakin' awesome, clean and colorful!
Hopefully some devs will get interested...no matter if the rest of the android apps won't follow

miui with adw launcher doesnt bother me. i still hate the iphone-like setting menus but with the amazing battery life i get i can live with them.

I would love a port! I've been waiting ever so long

You can change the iPhone style menu by going to Settings-->Personal Tab-->Menu settings..
And BTW I would also like the Port of M9.. Plz somebody do it..

People don't seem to be porting much of anything to the Nexus at the time. The only real "port" we have is Sense (All of the Sense's).. I would love to see something other than stock Android on the Nexus, especially with a nicely designed UI.
I personally love MIUI, despite it's iPhone like appearance -- all the functionality of Android with the plain, somewhat boring, UI revamped.

I downloaded the update.zip but it doesn't have a boot.img. The build.prop says this: ro.build.display.id=meizu_m9-eng 2.2 FRF91. Its probably a Froyo hybrid of sorts? I've been able to port a few ROM's for my personal testing, but I usually need the boot.img which the update.zip doesn't have. I'm downloading the M9 ROM.zip now which is really huge at 471mb. Don't know if that has boot.img. Maybe a FRF91 boot.img might work. I'll have to play around with it with no guarantee's.

Same here..

Well I couldn't get it to boot using a FRF91 boot image. If somebody can find the the boot.img maybe we can get it to boot to play around with it.

Finally somebody noticed the M9's ROM.
I am a Chinese,so I can tell something: Meizu is a company of China.
LBE is an UNOFFICIAL team which porting Android to M8(a WinCE based phone, has the almost same UI like M9).
Maybe you can cantact with the LBE team (they are active at bbs.meizu.com) for some help.
That's all,and sorry for my poor English. : )

Had a Meizu M8 for almost a year, so I know what´s going on there...
..would be of course very interesting, to test a M9 Rom on N1,...but I think just to test.

yay! lets make this happen MicroMod! Lol

has anyone tried miui boot .img that might work because the roms are almost the same.

I can try that next!!!

Miui boot.img didn't work. Somebody like OP guy find me the original boot.img.

Nice... hope to see a port also!

I tried taking some of the APKs from Meizu to MIUI.. like Filemanager, Launcher2, calculator..
And only calculator works.. .. It seems better than default..
Lets see what all apps can run..
But I am still waiting for the M9 ROM port..

ROM Request - Vanilla AOSP 2.1

I am not knowledgeable enough to do this myself, or I would. I would like to request a plain AOSP 2.1 build ROM for the CDMA Hero. I figure since the kernel source code is out and Android 2.1 source code is out, this one shouldn't be too difficult to achieve.
I'm not big on the extra apps in a ROM either. I'm talking almost barebones. I don't want Sense either...just a plain AOSP.
Anyone want that too? If so, add your comment here and let's see if you can get someone more skilled than me to do it.
I also realize that it does take time to make a ROM, so if this doesn't come to fruition I'm not going to get upset, but figured I have nothing to lose by asking.
Thanks
yeah would love 2.1
i love the bottom menus with the dots instead of drawer and new icons
i hope its like this onedaylol

A plain just from source build would be right up my alley as well.
I also would like. Anyone want to start a donation pot for the dev that does it? I would donate.
Me too. Just like the Nexus One, no Sprint-specific apps, but also no funny stuff like adding apps or changing colors. What is AOSP?

I usually hate posts like this, but the situation DEFININTELY called for it
Sweet, Advanced On-Board Signal Processor, got it.
Uh, that's a joke btw.
+1..... a fully functioning plain vanilla 2.1 ROM for my Hero!!!
This may take some time.. Although we have the kernel, from my understanding there is still some porting that needs to happen to the 2.1 code so that the AOSP will run on our phone with all the different hardware. HTC was right on time with this release i was two days away from ordering an n1 from google. guess ill stick around and learn as much as i can and see what happens
yes please. as plain as possible
You can use flipz 2.1 Rom, turn sense off, and that would be a 2.1 vanilla Rom ...... that is what I'm doing right now for the moment

Besides having the hero apks, does this ROM (when sense is turned off) look and act like the Nexus 1 ROM?
(I would try it for myself, but I don't wanna go through the hassle of wiping my device and restoring all the info/data)
Thanks for answering my question.
PS: I actually like Hero's Phone, Contacts and Calendar a lot more than stock.
Yeah, I would definitely be interested in this too. I just switched over from a Touch Pro a few weeks ago, and have been reading up on Hero ROMs, but none have really caught my attention too much yet. I'm not usually a fan of all the HTC goodies....
(Also, I'm a new poster here.. This seems like a better place for Hero stuff than where I was over at PPCgeeks)

If only
The kernel source is out, yes, but for 2.1 to run at its best, it needs to be running 2.6.29 kernel version, which is not released (for our phone). I'm working on a port, but so far it doesn't boot )) and others may be in the process of doing the same.
There are other projects to get AOSP 2.0.1 and 2.1 on the phone, and those have been working with the 2.6.27 kernel, which is not going to run as well as intended. Of course all it'll take is replacing the kernel, hopefully, and I'm sure someone will make a breakthrough in porting the kernel soon

[Q] Good roms for mt4g

I tried all the other ROMS out there and if functionality is what you're looking for, I would stick with the ICE Glacier rom. Everything works and its fast! I use to switch up rom's everyday but always go back to Ice. No wifi issues, FFC works, navi and all that good stuff. I ran CM6 for a week but it was still missing some of the functions. Ill probably rum CM7 when everything works. You cant go wrong with the Glacier Rom. Just install ADW or LPP and customize it to your liking.

Oh..make sure you do a backup and wipe data, wipe cache before flashing it. You probably already know that.
one more quick question, any way to get rid of all that [email protected] blue lol, id prefer a unthemed rom...also have you ever ran evil 4g hd v0.2.2-1.72.405.3??

just install the unthemed version
unthemed links on the forum are dead
Im not to fond of the blue also. I just installed the "unthemed" version and use LPP as a launcher. I might be in the minority but I like the Sense UI over plain froyo, I like the functions, dialer, widgets . Heres a screenie of what I'm running at the moment. Hope this helps...

Dload it directly from your phone. The ROM will be in the dowload folder when its finished. Flash the file from there. You cant dlaod it from a PC, it gives a blank page but the download should work directly on your MT4G.
I have to agree 100% w/ Lakeshow423. Once I installed ClockworkMod Recovery and flashed a new recovery, I was going to try out CM6, Gorilla's, Ice, etc.
I went with Ice Glacier first, after reading everyone's positive reviews. That and it's still the HTC Sense UI, which I wanted. I used a G1 for years so I've had plenty of the vanilla Android experience.
Also, I am not experiencing any issues downloading the latest (1.1.4) release @...

I actually installed the themed version first, thinking I'd like the cool blue trim/accents. It actually ended up being a bit much for me and I found myself longing for the unthemed version. I couldn't be happier with this ROM. For those looking to "keep things the same," but want to get more speed, a better user experience and a bit better battery life (via SetCPU), I think Ice Glacier is the wiener.
Add to that, the devs working on it - teamsilence and NOTXEL21 - have been nothing but nice and quick to release updates. The ROMs are pretty much near perfect. There was an issue in 1.1.3 with WiFi hotspot (an issue w/ the included kernel) and they pretty much immediately released, 1.1.4 with a fix (downgraded kernel). Add to that, the devs are already "teasing" Gingerbread. Please, do not take this as, "shlongwoodian said they're releasing a Gingerbread ROM." I'm not saying that at all. I'm just saying these two devs seem like cool guys and they're doing great work...and I'll stick with them for updates, not TMO or HTC.
I like Sense, so I wasn't looking to theme/mod my interface too much. I think my "almost-standard-issue" home screen is quite sexy, if you ask me...
Going to Ice Glacier is the best thing you can do for your HTC Glacier. I can't stress enough, to do a Titanium backup first (verify it too) and then before flashing/deleting or doing ANYTHING in recovery, do a Nandroid backup first!

Yep, Cyanogen is Sense-less and will give you the vanilla Android feel.
Hands down, Ice Glacier is where it's at, IMHO. Our employee wanted vanilla and tried Cyanogen - he ended up back at Ice Glacier.
It all comes down to personal preference, both with the ROM itself and the dev(s). I get a good feel from both with Ice Glacier.
The good thing is, you can try em all! Make a Nandroid, try and if ya don't like, flash another ROM.
Those iPhone girlies don't have that luxury.
[[[Ice Glacier beats Rock ~ via XDA App]]]
I like the phone exactly as it comes from T-Mobile. All I wish I could do is remove stuff I don't use like news, stocks, and some of the games. I would also like to do screen shots, and it wouldn't hurt if it were faster, maybe load different themes. Aside from that, I like everything as its meant to be and find this blue to be quite annoying.

MIUI for EVO... SPEECHLESS! UPDATE: TIPS ADDED!

Folks, I just installed MIUI 0.1.14-RC2.5 and I am totally SPEECHLESS! It feels like a totally different phone! It doesn't even look like a typical Android phone anymore. Yes, it gives the phone an iPhonish feel, but it's amazing indeed. If you have been thinking about giving it a shot, NANDROID and give it a try!
http://miui-dev.com/forums/showthread.php?2053-UPDATE-New-Official-Release-Thread-0.1.14
UPDATE: Just wanted to add and compile a list of the little things that make this ROM great and UNIQUE. If you have any tip or things you have discovered, just post them in this thread and I will update the OP.
1. Built-in screenshot feature. Simply press volume down + menu, and you will be able to save a screenshot if your current display.
2. When making a call, you can RECORD the conversation. Once the number is dialed, simply click CALL TOOLS | REC and the call will be recorded and saved as an audio .amr file to your sdcard.
That's exactly how I felt when I first flashed it. Heck that's how I still feel after running it for close to 3 months. It's amazing.

My opinions of course:
Sense ROMs - Myns, Fresh
AOSP ROMs - CM of course and MIUI (is MIUI considered an AOSP ROM?)
Kernels - Any that has SBC integrated

I ran MIUI for a while, not sure if much has changed on it but it was pretty nice. Looks, functionality, and smoothness was awesome. Battery life was in between CM and Sense based rom. who knows with newer kernels and builds but thats how it went for me about two months ago
Yeah I don't know what battery life is like on Sense ROMs anymore but I always have 55-65% left every morning when I swap out batteries. If I forget to swap the battery I still make it through the second day no problem. I'm using these batteries though, and they do last a bit longer than stock.

The look is the least of the MIUI rom. The theme manager makes it very very easy to change the look of the UI.
I've been on this rom since the beginning. It has (had?) features before many Sense roms. One reason I kept going back is the controls in the pull-down screen. Then there's the file manager (ok, right now it doesn't work but 1.1.14 may fix it), the camera, the lock screen. I also like having folders to organize my apps.
I'm hoping that the Wimax on CM means MIUI can also get Wimax. It would be nice to have 4G.

i feel like trying it, which version should i try? lol only things that dont work is 4g and hdmi?
LED's fully functional with Wimax LED Notification
version 1.1.7
Does this mean 4g is working on this version?
For those wanting to try it, official release thread here: http://miui-dev.com/forums/showthread.php?2053-New-Official-Release-Thread-1.1.7
The story with this ROM is that it is not developed for the EVO. It's officially made the for the Nexus One (I think), and we have a generous team of devs to port it over to the Evo each time the official devs release a new version (every seven days or so). Also the ROM is developed in Chinese so there's a lot of translation work to do.
1.14 was just released so those wanting to try out MIUI might want to wait a day or two for the Evo port to drop. If not, 1.7 is working great

Boot to Gecko Port

Hey guys,
I would like to port Boot to Gecko to our HTC Desire HD
Perhaps you know Boot to Gecko, it's the new Linux based OS from the Developers of great Firefox.
It is in an early state of Developing but it runs on an Samsung Galaxy S2. There are others out there who are also would like to see a port of it on an other Device.
Here and here for example..
herrsch0rdev wrote here that we just need to replace/add some drivers, perhaps a talented Android ROM Developer ore some one else who can help or poste some information or knowledge reads this and can provide help.

Good idea, but why not wait till the final version comes out and then port it on our devices? Even if you will port it now, people won't use it as a daily, but only to see how it works. I suggest you wait for the final version and then port.
Hmmm... I love panel 4-8, but those massive icons are a turn-off.
No widgets? I like clock/weather and facebook/twitter and whatnot.
Bringing this thread up again because I found a port guide from mozilla

Would really love to see this live
Firefox OS look promising and running on our device would be so awesome. wish i could help in development. but would be able to help in graphics and testing once someone picks up the task.
man this looks nice, I would most definitely try this one if it came out Love the simplistic idea for GUI.

I'm wondering if this would be any sort of solution now that HTC has abandoned us. I mean I don't see ICS or JB fully stable any time soon(maybe I'm wrong.. I'd love to be wrong to be honest)
..wondering how they would make it work for our phones(driver wize), of course maybe it would be just the same "ship" with different name.. either titanic or britannic the fate might be the same as these too.
I guess will have to wait and see..

Ahem, jellybean and ICS is pretty much as stable as needed.
Latest JT and Pacman roms are pretty much bullet proof, MIUI has some lag issues. If you're getting reboots try disabling HW overlays
ICS is as good as done, I would even say that Sense roms are more stable than non sense, and overall I feel they certainly match the stability of sense 3.5.
but......I would love to see a gecko port!

Ahem, jellybean and ICS is pretty much as stable as needed.
Latest JT and Pacman roms are pretty much bullet proof, MIUI has some lag issues. If you're getting reboots try disabling HW overlays

I prefer non sense roms and trust me they are not as stable as I would like. When I mean stable its not just working all features, its beeing bugfree too
P.S. android 2.3.7 is stable, ICS and JB ..hmm not ..working and in a very good state but not near stable at all.
lol
:crying: lol
So, did anyone started working on it?
I'd love to test it
Bumping this for the motherland.
Would love to see this, or Ubuntu Phone OS or OpenWebOS (May my Palm Pre RIP) on the DHD.
jb and ics roms are ok but launching apps is way slower than sense, and camera is never stable...i like to try this
So I assume that this boat sealed
Damn, I'd like to see Firefox OS in our phones.

ICS Sense (3.6 or 4.0) to release from Virtuous very soon.

Turns out our devices are supported too. No worries on DHD ics update cancelled. Virtous team found a way to make the camera work.

edit: its not Primadonna or Affinity. They are releasing a new rom i think its called Infinity.
Though would I be correct in assuming that even if they do get the camera working fully, that porting such would only work on Sense roms. (i.e.: I don't much care for Sense).
there are already ics roms without sense with working camera so it is a huge step up for desire z.

Well I know that much, cuz I'm using one. I'm talking bout *fully* working camera, all the same bells and whistles as gingerbread and 720p recording. Not talking bout the current state of non-Sense roms.
With that I'm guessing what Virtuous is planning to release camera-wise would be about the same as what some of us are already using.

well, they were talking about a fully working camera so i guess that includes the 720p recording. they said they used the 3.0 kernel source from primo so it will be different from what most of us using.

Hopefully if that's the case, that one can be ported to other (non-Sense) roms.
I know that for some Sense doesn't matter, but I find it as an integral part of owning an HTC device. (The Flip-to-Silence feature got me hooked when I saw the ads ) and each and every time I tried another ROM, I found myself going back to the good ol' Sense. Whatever version it might be (2.1, 3.0, 3.5).
It adds small stuff that some people care about - for example, the clock app has a stopwatch, timer, and other functions right in the app. I know I can download another app to do all that stuff, but hey - it's more integrated, it looks better in my opinion and I like to keep things stock because they are more in tune with the rest of the UI.
I really love the „Holo” theme in ICS, but we have to admit it still lacks in the App department. Yes, you can get apps to get the functions, but they aren't as finished and as polished as Sense apps.
Also, that Car Home app in Sense 4 is S-W-E-E-T!
You see my point. Different people have different needs. I'll stop here, or else this post will get waaay too long.

Yea I can certainly understand the appeal of Sense, as I've tried some of Virtuous's roms, problem is that for me it's much too sluggish most of the time and I would prefer some functionality over some of the aesthetic. (kind of funny when I say it that way, cuz my somewhat minimal ICS rom looks cleaner than the gingerbread stock Sense I had).
In any case, any progress is good progress considering that the alternatives we were waiting for (i.e.: DHD/etc getting stock ICS) isn't going to happen.
In regards to cameras. Right now on the rom I'm on right now, I can take 5MP pictures and record videos at 720x480, granted however the process was much smoother and crisper in gingerbread ( I guess cuz you'd get full hardware control in those cases ). But as long as one can actually take a quick snap or scan a barcode I think that'll make most people happy across the board.
We all love the virtuous team though
