Hi,
I am having issues with my "home" button..
It should take me to the homescreen when I press it, but now.. I have to select between "android Home" or "sense UI Home"
I have tried to check the "make default" when this screen comes up, but it does not keep!
Sometimes it goes away.. but only for a few times.
then I have to reselect it again.
Lately, it is almost every time.
I have gone into, the settings>application> Management..
and "cleared default"... then reselected it.. still same thing!!
what is wrong? It is so annoying!
can anyone... point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Factory reset?
anybody seen this before??
maybe this helps
i have seen this on my own hero, but i know now how this happent.
It came from an app from the market that normaly had nothing to do with the home screen, in my case it was a simpsons puzzle game, everytime i play the game my home button "Forgot" my default home app!
it seems that the app is just porly programed.
hope that helps.
i think that this happened right after, i installed "spare parts"
i have uninstalled it.. but it still happens??
This also happened to me after I installed 'Lockbot'.
I uninstalled, and now the default action is saved!
Not sure exactly what the cause is though?
that means.. I have to uninstall all me apps? hate that idea..
wish.. there is a more direct approach..
hhhmmm......
Go into...
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
Find the entry called HTC Sense and set it as default.
Alternatively, if you want Home as default then find the entry for that instead.
Either way, next time you press the Home key it should work as normal.
this is driving me nutz!!!
Not big deal, but annoying as hell!
I have downloaded from the Market: Home Switcher.
But still have the same issue. "home switcher" also looses the default home (Sense) after a few tries too.

i have this problem aswell. i have the before mentioned simpsons puzzle installed, aswell as spare parts. i used spare parts before and it didn't happen, but it happens even if don't use the simpsons puzzle. i have no idea...
edt: i can provoke this by using long-press home app switcher.

thanks for that hint. for me this is as definitive as it gets: simpsons puzzle installed, forget home on every home long-press. uninstall "ultimate simpsons puzzle" and everything is fine. gonna inform the dev.
Hi,
since 2.3.+ android doesn't allow other applications to start gps with one click. Instead of starting gps you are lead to the gps settings and there you have to start it manually. Another solution is to switch it on and never shut it down so that apps can use it without asking.
That made me crazy and so I tried to find a workaround and it worked. Some time ago I bought "SwitchPro Widget". After installing it I moved it from data/app to system/app and change the owner from system to root (two times). After a reboot I can use the widget to switch it on/of with on click.
Maybe this will work with some other widgets, but I haven't tried that.
Hope this will help others with the same problem.

WiFi OnOff 2.2.0 simple and fast 1x1 widget free in market and the possibilities are endless including SwitchPro Widget also works on my phone without menu pop up u know what i mean.
Or yet could just use the button on the drop down notification thing that's been in all Samsung Roms.

That's news to me. I have a few different widgets and they can still toggle gps with one click. What source says Gingerbread breaks/blocks that?

what's the point of turning GPS off anyway?
To stop some app turning it on whilst you're not looking?

I tried WiFi OnOff and guess what, it did nothing. Just turning green for on and red for off and nothing changed. Not working for me like the most widgets that I have tried.

"Power Control" and "GPS Toggle" on my D2G.
I played around with a handful of widgets for radio controls and I dont remember which was the preloaded app.

Pretty sure the one click on/off was a froyo thing. Apparently an operating system hole or w/e was used to be able to do this, but was patched in gingerbread that's why all apps now take you to the settings page to turn gps on/off.
Working like a charm!
Thx scorpie67!
I'm using Tasker with "Secure Settings" application. It allows me to turn GPS on and off automatically, eg.when launching Navigation

Do you have something enabled in the accessibility settings? If you have things like light flow or other stuff enabled it messes with the talk back feature and automatically enables it. The only way to stop it is to freeze it or disable the other thing.

Its usually caused by talkback in accessibility. Talkback can also be triggered by some apps that access notifications like lightflow or floating notifications.
Theres a bug with Talk balk.. try disable then enable again

thanks guys, enabling then disabling fixed it now
I had the same issue, but turning off / on TalkBack didn't resolve it for me.
What worked was turning off a different app (Dashlane) that had Accessibility on....so now I have no apps with Accesibility on, and the browser stopped talking to me.
I remember my S3 had a similar issue with TalkBack talking when I had LightFlow accessibility on.
Hi,
I am trying to use Waze on my phone, but the app won't open as it keeps saying screen overlay detected. I have gone into my settings and turned off the overlay for all the apps apart from the system apps. But it is still not working.
I have tried searching on Google, and don't have any of the apps installed like twilight, luxe or Facebook which are supposed to be causing the problem.
Any other suggestions on how to fix it?
Cheers

Not sure what swipe home is? It's not listed under apps, I usually press the middle button to get to the home screen

Screen Balance (which adjusts screen colour balance/tint) and which I recommended in another thread creates an overlay.
Certain apps will not function properly unless SB is turned off.

It's not a stock app it's a downloaded app from the play store.
I usually turn off off all the apps using it and turn it on after... It's a frustrating issue but what are you going to do.
If it's bothering you find a good Rom, for example Superman Rom, Overlays was removed as it's too much if s hassle

It has nothing to do with any of that, it's Google's fault. You can flash a fix which is in Phoenix rom thread or go back to a previous stock rom

Sorry, I didn't make myself very clear. Screen Balance is an app, separate to the UI's adjustments.
I had the same overlay issue, what I did that Ive disabled all the apps altogether, and switched them on back one by one, discovered that an application called Swipe Home Button Ive installed was responsible,so I have uninstalled after which everything was normal.
Is it safe to turn off the overlay for the system installed apps? I have turned off the overlay for all other apps that I have installed
The app that was causing me this problem after this weekend's AT&T software update was Bing. I Uninstalled it and all was fine.
How I finally fixed the "Screen Overlay" problem on my S7 edge.
The easiest fix, only full fix, I have found is as follows. When the screen overlay screen opens in settings, just turn everything marked on to off. Which by the way is the only thing you can do on this screen. Since I did all my apps, even the ones that weren't working, are working as they should. Hope this helps someone.
As Richie and Monigote stated, flash the screen overlay fix from Phoenix ROM. LoL pay attention please

even when I tried to turn overlay off for all apps mine still was going wrong and I couldn´t use some apps...the only way I got this fixed was making a reset (from the configs options it self) from all my configurations, just configurations, not all data in the phone, it works fine for now...
now I´m with problem with my mobile data connection, I don´t know if it´s from my brand or my phone...

The message about overlay detected i have seen and experienced a number of times.
BUT the only time this has occurred is when i was using SideSync
i.e. I am using it to Remote control the device using my PC
or am using my PC to display my Phone within my PC screen (So i can use my phone while using the PC)
The warning was being presented by some apps because SideSync was overlaying the screen to mirror it to my PC screen)
As soon as i disconnected this message stopped.
Not am not saying your using SideSync, But any other app you have installed that can mirror / allow remote access or displaying your phone screen on another device like PC may be causing the problem

Did Pokemon enable the game overlay?
Small controller icon that comes up when games like Pokemon are playing - that could be your issue.
Settings / Advanced Features / Games / Games Tools = disable
It about stops me from doing uploading pictures, downloading. It's driving me crazy anyone else having this problem?
Yea lots of people are. Anything that changes the status of the screen like some kind of screen filter like twilight, night owl, any of those things, can mess with this. It's been pretty annoying. I have Twilight set to a timer to eliminate blue light on the screen before sleeping and I have to freeze and defrost it several times a day. Apparently it's an issue with ZTE. There is a thread over there about it.

I guess that it should actually be a security feature to prevent an overlay app from abusing any open apps below it... but it is really annoying that the ZTE integrated feature Mi-POP will also make this warnings display... you can simply deactivate it through its notification bar shortcut but it's still annoying...

Screen overlay is new in 6.0 to prevent apps from creating an overlay and giving permissions to themselves. It's not an issue with ZTE.
Yes screen overlay is new. Came from a N6 and never had this problem on stock 6.0 from Google. Facebook messenger will not do anything other than message can't call, or send pictures. Yes it is a problem with ZTE

Go to the "Apps" setting, and then click on the "gear-shaped" setting button to go to the "Draw over other apps" menu and turn off all apps that are enabled. Go back to the "Apps" setting and click on the app that needs permissions modified. When all the permissions are updated, go back and enable the "Draw over other apps" for those apps you disabled.
Use this app it will get rid of that annoying overlay issue.
