I recently rooted my EVO 4G and downloaded the wifi tethering app. So, a couple questions. 1. Is this an ad hoc network? 2. I dont think ps3 supports ad hoc networks, so is there a way to connect my laptop to my phone and have the laptop act as the AP (non ad hoc).
Nevermind, figured it out. I guess the android wireless tether app is not ad hoc. As my ps3 was able to connect. Worked extremely good by the way.
How did you do it? I need to test it with my G2 but with my slide the ps3 didn't even see the signal from my phone - or if it did, it didn't up on the connection list after scanning.
Use calk sprint hotspot hack works flawlessly

And how would you change the NAT settings to open using WiFi tether? Call of Duty black ops is on strict when using wifi tether, no lag or anything just hard to connected to friends???

You will be able to get a wifi connection on the phone - you wont be able to call or text - so basically its like an ipod touch -
and he can only connect to your hero if he's using one of the last few nightlies when they turned on the ability to connect to ad-hoc. Normally, an android device cannot connect to an ad hoc network.

Have you heard of punctuation? I'd love to help but I have no idea what you're asking.
EDIT: It appears you're asking if another person can connect to your Hero using their phone. That's only possible if their phone supports connecting to Ad Hoc wireless points.

Along those lines, does a kernel exist that supports WiFi tether in AP mode on the Hero200?
no drivers to allow that. If your friend is running froyo or eclair (doesn't work on all phones), he can use the wpa_supplicant from this thread. Then he can connect to ad-hoc
I am not home i will try it thanks

Hey all,
Time Warner as cut me off, so I am now relying on tethering from my droid 2. The main devices I want to tether are a laptop and ps3. Only the ps3 I am assuming would be a bandwidth eater, the laptop is mainly on standby. Currently, I am using the 3G hotspot (green icon) and even browsing online is very slow. Is there any way to boost the connection speeds so it is somewhat "3G"?
Thanx
Try using the wireless tether for root users on the market
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
could you post a link...there are tons of tethers on the market, are you refering to the green wifi logo one?
You cannot use Wireless tether from the market as it uses Ad Hoc not Infrastructure (PS3 needs Infrastructure). The PS3 and Xbox consoles actually use an extremely small amount of bandwidth.
Now to your question I would reboot before tethering and make sure you use Fissions ROM or basically any ROM that cuts down on blur since blur draws a lot of data at random intervals. Also dial *228 and do option 2 to optimize your network.
Finally, if you live in a city there may be a lot of people using the same tower which could slow your speeds drastically.

That's not true as of the latest version. I downloaded the new version from the Market last night and it forced infrastructure mode.

Great find! Didn't know they finally added it!

can ya link to the latest version please?
Its in the market just search Wireless Tether, its the first one.
My PC doesn't work well with my phone in infrastructure mode, so I believe I'm one of the few that don't like it. There is also no option to change it back to ad-hoc, either.
Try using barnacle tether. Same thing (your phone is a wireless hotspot) but should use ad hoc.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
don't use access control on either of them because there is some kernel problem on the DROID2 and it dosen't allow access control or something so if you try to use it, it probably won't work or it will be super slow. Should be fine without AC though.
I am new to android..my coworkers and I would really love to have wifi in the office....but not twenty a month.is it possible to get around this?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Of course! Just root your phone (search "z4root" [on XDA] for the easy way), and then install Android Wireless Tether from the market.
I would say do what was mentioned but instead download Barnacle Wifi Tether.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Barnacle is an ad hoc setup and some devices have a hard time tethering with it. Wireless Tether is far superior especially with its latest update which allows a better truer connection than ad hoc.

Barnacle worked great on my D1, but I've never got it working consistently on my DX. Wireless Tether on the other hand works every time.
I use both barnacle and wireless tether. I did a bunch of speed tests and wireless does fair a bit better. I get about 8% faster dl speeds with wireless 2.6 vs 2.4 and the latency was about twice as quick, 135 vs 250. Up is about the same regardless which i use.
I also have issues with some devices not seeing barnacle, my laptop sees it fine while my desktop does not.
However with wireless tether my connections stalls out sometimes when my phone sleeps, it happens occasionally with barnacle but not nearly as often. So for me I use barnacle when streaming movies from Netflix or hulu and wireless tether the rest of the time.
Beamed from my robot X using the XDA app
I would also suggest wireless tether as it now supports infrastructure mode.
Dont have to root, just turn on 3g then toggle on airplane mode then toggle it back off, free tethering!!
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
they are both basically the same thing but wireless tether now supports infrastructure mode! so now its more like a router than a wireless hotspot app. and i dont think z4root is on the market, so here is a link. download it from your phone and use astro to navigate to download and install it.
when you open the link it will automatically download. http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=446145&d=1290341328

The TBH hack is the same as the new Wireless Tether, they both have infrastructure. Wireless Tether is no longer ad hoc.
There is a wired tether aswell if you prefer to use a usb connection. Avaible AFTER your phone is rooted of course
I use the wifi tether app daily. Will post it when I'm not driving or I remember.

I actually tried a variant of this, posted on the first page of this thread, where you open hotspot tether then turn airplane mode on then off. I'm able to keep the hotspot connection going, but it isn't working with my computer. It recognizes the phone but shows a big red X going from my computer to the Internet.
I'm only posting this because I'm wondering if something might have changed recently that the functionality has been blocked.

PDA.NET seems to be the only one that keeps a constance speed. You can tether with USB or Bluetooth. I perfer it of all the other wifi thethers. The wifi one's speed seem to drop after 5 mins or so of using.
Ok, so I am using ZT180 Adhoc Switcher to connect to my Galaxy S II's (Epic 4G Touch) 4G webs via Wireless Tether.
I am able to use facebook, Words with Friends, Google Reader (not perfect), the Market and many other apps' web capabilities without a problem. i.e. Facebook works as it would on a wifi network.
However, many of my apps don't recognize my internet connection even though it is there. So, is there anything I can do to make all of my apps recognize my wireless tether connection or am I stuck using the select few that work?
Search search search search. This tells you how to set up a infrastructure network.

I'm using ZT180 to switch from Infrastructure to Adhoc so I can tether. That part is taken care of. I have internet on my Kindle from my phone.
The problem is that some apps recognize it and some apps don't.
The point is, you don't NEED to use adhoc at all. Setting up the phone as I already explained in the other thread and it will be set up in infrastructure mode, and the Kindle will connect with no issue.

Ahhh, that makes sense. Should have read more into it.
Well I finally got Wireless Tether beta working, but I'm having the same problem where apps such as Dolphin Browser will not work, but Facebook will.
I'm using an Infrastructure connection, but many apps will not recognize it anyway...
Do I need to uninstall the ZT180 switcher in order to remove files from system/etc/wifi??
My wifi icon still has the small 'x' in the right hand corner.
I would try to remove it. I tether to my phone all the time and have no issues with Dolphin or any other apps.

I uninstalled the app and deleted the "tiwlan.ini_ZTO..." that came with it, but I still see the ZT180 Adhoc Switcher and Warning AdHoc_Mode as wireless networks that i can connect to...
Epic Touch 4g has various issues with infrastructure mode. Best answer I can give you is to install a recovery and flash blazer rom. Its Sprint hotspot fully supports 4G infrastructure mode.

Wow, I can't believe I overlooked this. I'm running Blazer 3.2 and previously i had looked in the Wireless and Network settings for the Hotspot settings, but since it was not there I had just assumed PhantomHacker left it out of the build.
long story short - i activated the Sprint Hotspot app that was in my app drawer and it's working flawlessly!
Thanks so much! Surely I won't be charged from Sprint for this? I'll post in the Blazer forum as well.
Sorry for the late reply, but ive been running the hotspot for a whole wig no ill effects

Just got an HTC Rezound and was just wondering if I could tether my Kindle Fire with my phone and use it's 4G connection when I'm not at home or near WIFI? I apologize if this has been covered but I couldn't find any updated threads on this.
If I'm able to can someone please tell me a working tether application that I can use and how to use it properly. I haven't tethered since my OG.
Thanks everyone.
if your phone is able to operate as hotspot then you need nothing at the kf
i'm using zt-180 adhoc switcher from the market to tether with pc (connectify)
this has also been reported to work with phones which only support adhoc mode

Yes, my Rezound has a hotspot app if that is what you mean, its the official Verizon mobile hotspot app? It came preinstalled on the phone. Verizon charges to use the app though.
I was just curious if I could install an app on my phone and kindle fire so my kindle fire could use the 4G from my phone to access the internet, etc.? So if I'm in a car I can just turn my phone on and my KF will have internet. How do I do that with the app your talking about?
If you want to use Mobil hotspots from Verizon that will work but it will cost you monthly to use. If you don't want to spend any lotr than you have to, you will need to root your phone and install Wireless Tether from Google marketplace and you should be fine.
