i assume you mean ClockWorkMod recovery.....
Root the phone...Download ROM Manager....open the app and flash ClockworkMod Recovery...reboot into recovery...if it takes you to the stock 2e recovery...hit re-install packages and it should take u to CWM recovery

which rom? i'm assuming you're using an ODIN'd 2.2 rom, and if so, you need to use SuperOneClick to get root, then mount system as rewriteable, and then push untermensch's modded 3e recovery so that you can use CWM with a 2.2 rom.
OR
You can dl one of the voodoo kernels, making sure you have the required voodoo disable key file on your sdcard, and flash the voodoo kernel using ODIN. (which is WAY easier in my opinion)

i can only boot into clockwork mod recovery using the standard 3 button method. When i use Rom manager or Root manager to go into recovery it takes me into stock android recovery, does anyone know why?
also my epic will not let me flash noobln's rom, it says the file is messed up despite downloading several time?? however I was able to flash the boss rom.
Sounds like you lost your root.
Mine does the same thing concerning using rom manager to boot into recovery. Have to manually boot into recovery. Root is fine though.

It looks like you used noobnl one click to install the CWM recovery to blm8- if you also want rom manager support you need a kernel that supports it on bml7- you can flash that via the CWM- if you search you will find a stock kernel that has CWM support along with several other roms

I don't have it flashed but the latest mixup lists rom manager support- what happens when you try to boot into recovery via rom manager- do you get an "unsigned error"?

Yep i get the unsigned error but using the manual method works. Im reading its because i used the 1 click clockwork method. I used noobnls newest final clockwork.
When i did it koushs way it would work with rom manager.

Sorry. I am running stock rom. Mixup kernal on top of it with rom manager support. Then have noobnls clockwork flashed on top of mixup kernel.
Last week i went back to stock. I rooted then installed the hacked clockwork then installed koushs kernel to get permanent clockwork and it worked from rom manager as well as the three button way. I then flashed mixup over koushs kernel and that's when it quit working from rom manager.
I am wondering if i can reflash koushs kernel and then mixup because before when i did it mixup didn't support clockwork. I didn't flash koushs way on my new epic.
So basically i would have done this.
Noobnls one click with rom manager and fixed su> koushs kernel> mixup kernel????

I dont understand but Ill try
Mixup Supports clockwork and rom manager so using market download it and install clockwork recovery.
If you ever have to boot into either STOCK recovery or the THREE FINGER clockwork RECOVERY METHOD.
Navigate to INSTALL UPDATE.ZIP select and you will now be in the proper clockwork recovery
REMEMBER ALWAYS BACKUP

yeah Same happens to me using Switch pro widget. This new version 1.9 has the ability to reboot to recovery.. everytime I rebooted into recovery, it brought me to stock recovery. Seems like the clock work kept failing to delete the stock recovery, but if I press and hold volume down, on/off and camera it boots into clockwork recovery.

From my limited understanding the epic has two recovery locations- one (bml8) is accessed through the 3 button push. The other (bml7) is accessed through adb reboot recovery or rom manager. Use noobnl CWM installer to install to bml8. To use rom manager (to place CWM on bml7) your kernel must support it (i.e. you have to flash to something else other than the stock kernel). hope that makes sense!
In some senses this is nice- if your rom gets messed up you can still access the recovery via the 3 button push
Also before you use rom manager for the first time make sure there is no "update.zip" on the root of your sdcard
Can anyone hep?
I have tried many times to boot into recovery from RM to now avail. Cannot flash a rom or theme either...
I tried flashing CWM for another phone, then reflashing Fascinate but that didn't work either.
Thoughts? Help?
I can manually boot into CWM.
Did you flash the CWM enabling patch through Odin?
Here is the link from the two submitted guides on root CWM, etc. in development:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099
You must run this patch before rom manager will install its custom recovery.

I'd guess flashing the wrong phone is what messed you up but if you can get into CWM recovery manually can't you flash roms/themes from there, or is that not working too? If it is working, then you don't really need be able to do it from Rom Manager.

I had originally flashed the Fascinate, then by suggestion, flashed another phone and then the fascinate again... no luck.
I dont MIND booting into CWM manually, but so much easier to click and go, you know... laziness
You need to be rooted for ROM Manager to reboot the phone at all let alone into recovery. So just flashing CWM patch with Odin and then trying to have ROM Manager reboot the phone without root access isn't going to work.

do you have clockwrk mod recovery?
Download rom manager from the market and flash clockword mod recovery and then choose the "install zip from sdcard" option
Idk how update.zips work, but I never installed a rom using one lol

Are you trying to use the stock recovery or do you have clockwork mod installed?
You won't be able to load roms from the stock recovery. It checks for a valid signature before it flashes.
I don't have a pc I did the clockwork from rom manager

I had this problem too, when I rooted. Do a factory reset and retry the rooting. Once rooted, you wont have a problem with Clockwork Recovery.
You cant use rom manager to install clockwork. It doesn't work on the phones stock kernel.
So I was wondering if the ext4 only works with roms or how can I get it to work with my stock rom that's rooted. I like the stock two launcher with the dk28 and I want to keep it like that. Thanks for your help in advance
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Most ROMS will indicate if they have ext4 support or not. Read the release notes and see if they mention ext4. If they mention ext4 in the title, they do support it. If in doubt, post a question about it in the thread to ask the developer if they do and if not, if/when will they get it.
To get ext4, just use Daemon's CWM3 method to upgrade to ext4 and then flash an ext4 ROM.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Follow the instructions in the ext4 thread to convert to ext4. Then, flash your dk28 from clockwork, followed immediately by flashing a kernel that supports ext4.
Ok thanks for your help ill try that
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Just remember to flash the kernel after the rom and before you reboot the phone and you'll be fine.
The kernel may only be available with the older amend scripts so you may need to use clockwork 2.5.1.0 and 2.5.1.2 to flash it.
Make sure you have the recovery redirector installed. If you have run the one-click root and recovery v2.5.5, then you have it.
Get the the one click ext4 from this thread. It says this method is deprecated, but it works just the same. Read the instructions before you do anything with it. Get the dual file system kernel from this thread.. And you can use noobnl's pre-rooted and redirected DK28 from this thread.
Since you are still on DK28, I would flash the prepare.zip, reboot to 2.5.1.2, run the one-click .bat file, flash dk28, flash the kernel, and tTHEN reboot. Then you will probably need to either reinstall cwm 2.5.1.2 (using the prepare.zip) or go ahead and install cwm 3. It sounds complicated, but it isn't that bad. Waiting for everything is the worst part.

Im sorry if this has been brought up before, but i couldnt find a thread with the same problem.. Whenever I try to do a backup with ClockWorkMod(before you ask yes i have flashed it) Anyway i click on the backup option, my phone then resets and boots into recovery, at which point it says "install default apk-files. please wait" and "install default apk-files. finished" and just stays there, with the normal recovery options, reboot, apply update, wipe data etc etc.. My phone is a rooted Galaxy S running stock Froyo.
Thanks in advance,

when you are in recovery what is the first thing it says ?? does is say android recovery system <3e> or does it have somethin like ClockWork Mod x.x.x.x (x being numbers)
It says "Android system recovery (3e)".
Had this same issue at one point, but this resolved it for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...4#post10624454
Do yourself a favor and download Root Explorer from the Market so that you can apply the the file supplied in the zip.
the link to that thread is broken.
Not sure what happened but try this one:

thanks for that ill give it a try and let you know how it goes.
Nope still not working, thanks for the suggestion anyway
you need 2e to flash unsigned zips, your still on stock recovery.
quickest easiest way just flash speedmod or voodoo kernel, gives the phone extra performance too.
or if you just want recovery flash CF-ROOT.

Can you please provide the steps of what you've done? You said that this didnt work for you but did you follow the instructions? Did you reboot your phone into android recovery and choose the option for installing the update.zip? Are you using Rom Manager?
You're most likely trying to do a backup using rommanager. Same thing happens to me. When on the 3e screen just reboot and then straight away enter recovery using the 3 button method. It then enters 2e recovery and begins to backup automatically. Or just start the backup with the 3 button method instead.
