Vote here and maybe we can find the safest firmware for bell's i9000m
I'm getting my phone back (finally) from repairs and i don't want it to die again.
you can choose multiple if your phone died more than once
Has anyone found a definite link between firmware versions and the failures? I think it is a hardware issue or something on a different level than the firmware. I had problems with JH2 and JK4.
If only Samsung would come out and detail what the problem actually is, I might have faith that they actually fixed it. Is it related to the i9000 roms? Does this mean I'm stuck on vanilla roms lest my phone die horribly? Will the forthcoming Nexus S port exhibit the problem? What about AOSP roms like CM?
Because Samsung won't actually tell us what is going on it's impossible to tell.

I think it is hardware problem, but it seems that certain firmwares boost this problem, like jk4
Not another one of these poll threads, we have too many as it is. This one is pointless anyway.
For those not keeping up: if your failure is hardware-related, no firmware is any better than the others. Your i9000M will die at some point, granted flashing firmwares will accelerate the process.
If your failure is software-related, JL2 should have fixed the issues, and if you're using any other Froyo build (including custom ROMs and ROMs for international variants) you may want to consider jumping to a JL2 build or a JL2-based build when they become available so your phone won't brick on you.

The gps problem on my Samsung galaxy phone only got better when the develpers
pulled out the various modems from the leaked Roms so they could be flashed.
Some modems worked much better than others depending on the ROM.
Would our winderfil developers, whose shoes I am not worthy to wipe, consider doing this?
There are many samsung firmware builds, just for i9505 and i9500 itself there are many different firmware variations.
From what I understand, different regions uses different modems am I right? If not, then why do Samsung update their firmware based on different regions?
When Android 4.3 was released, it was released as per region and to Russia first. Why cant they just send out one uniform update OTA to all devices of that model? If its because of the modems, then why dont other manufacturers like HTC do the same? They are able to push out one HTC update for all international HTC phones...

it s not always because of bandwidth traffics
sometimes they release firmware for test if someone find bug and then solve it for another region (and also with minor update for first regions)
htc released update for htc one world-wide But how u compare samsung with htc
S4 was one of the best sell in history of smartphone (always samsung device do this) so thr s more s4 users than htc one
also it happened for some device for sony xperia
SO be patient
However u can flash stocks roms
download flashable zip of ROM from another region and flash it via Odin
completely stock and without warranty void...

Actually the purpose of this post is to gain some knowledge on how Samsung update goes on... I am very patient I am not rushing to the point I need to flash a custom ROM. So you are saying that each region has their own Samsung tech guy that will work on the initial release to fix bugs before passing to another region?
There are not just more variants of firmware in s4, but also the same for any samsung phone. Does anyone else have their opinion on this matter as well? I would like to get feedback on what people think behind samsung's update procedure.
I'm also interested in having an answer on the subject. If I can flash a firmware from another region on my phone, what's the purpose of having several firmwares...Besides some tweaks apparently.
Wouldn't it be more interesting if all the developers from Samsung focused on the same firmware to eliminate the bugs more rapidly for example? I don't really see the link between several firmwares and the number of users. Ok, the S4 sold by millions, and?
Thanks.
What difference does it make.As long as your getting your updates, why would you care about any other region.
Are you doing a Samsung case study or preparing a lawsuit; otherwise email CEO of Samsung.
I can post his tag if needed..lol

The time discrepancy its coming from carriers. Most of them wants to integrate their own bloatwares in their phones. And some are doing faster than others. That's why there's so many region specific firmwares when its about Touchwiz. You won't see region specific firmwares for Google Play Edition.

Indeed, seems the most obvious reason... I just wanted to be sure that besides the bloatware, the Android version underneath was the same.
Thanks for your intel!

Well according to Samsung this phone doesn't exist. Samsung swore up and down that there would be no S5 prime released.
But anyway, your idea to use the kernel from the existing S5 is exceedingly unlikely to work. You can't just transplant a stock kernel from a different model. The kernel may be nearly identical, but you have to expect at least a few differences in system level drivers and addressing which is enough to cause serious problems. An expert could probably recompile and port the kernel over, but this phone was just released and I doubt that anyone has done anything like that yet.
There probably isn't Chinese or English firmware for this model, but you check on that just in case. Also see if there is Chinese or English support in the current firmware. Failing that, you may be able to install an English or Chinese custom ROM. Once one is released that is. There is probably enough interest in the premium hardware for someone to tackle that.
Realize that you bought a Korean market only device, at least for the moment and unless Samsung releases it to more markets or a programmer takes it on as a project.. you don't have a lot of options. Hazards of being an early adopter and /or not researching your options in advance.
Also, few people outside of Korea will have any firsthand knowledge of this phone yet, so we don't know a lot of details e.g. if the bootloader is locked or much else.

@edmundluk6
FYI, root, custom recovery and custom ROM development for your phone.

Hello guys. I have the n900t, I am now running tweaked s5 base n4 style v6.0. And I run alot of n9005 ROMS as well. With that said here is my issue. For only the past few weeks ( month tops) every time i make or recieve a phone call my data drips down to hspa. The second i hit call and right before my phone rings is when it happens. After my call the data takes a very long time to jump back up. This is a new issue and i have no idea what it is. However, i did flash back to a stock ROM and the issue was solved. And i forget which rom it was but it was soley TE based and there were no issues. I did try to flash a modem but it didnt take. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Or can anyone suggest a fix for it.
Thank you for your help.
bump.
Still having the issue. I tried to flash a new modem and it just failed anyway. Dont know if I should try a radio. I just cant fivure out why this happened out of no where. I was fine no matter what ROM I was running. Now...this crap. Please guys, 40 people saw this, can SOMEBODY please help.

1) Quite strange - your picture suggests you are on Verizon yet you comment about a N900T in the forum for the INTERNATIONAL Note 3. On what network are you? Are you aware that there might be network-specific factors involved which could only be visible for other users on exactly the same network in exactly the same region?
2) Try stock ROM (with corresponding stock modem) from a location with very good signal.
5 he physical device is an n900t, however, I am running as of now, the hyper drive note 5 port with n4 UI. When I do flash back to a full stock TW ROM all is good, A FEW TW based ROMs seem to be OK. Like this one, the calls do not affect the data signal. But most ROMs do effect it in that way. You said that it shows I'm running Verizon?
But I am very curious why all of the sudden I am having this issue. I have never had it before. Except with a few specific AOSP based ROMs. I just can't figure out what it is that's causing it. I have done vigorous wipes of the phone to no avail.
And I am in Philadelphia so there really is no place that is actually bad reception (except in the susubways of course...lol)
And thank you for your reply.

1) Your avatar mentions Verizon for some reason.
2) If it is all OK with the stock ROM then it is a problem with the custom ROM, ask in the specific thread for that specific ROM. Most likely it has something to do with the modem and the corresponding RIL.
So when ever a new ROM is flashed the modem is flashed as well. Unless the dev says otherwise?
Hey everyone,
Please bare with me, this is my first time rooting & flashing a smartphone, so my knowledge on the topic is still limited even after some reads.
I also have the "misfortune" to not fall into the (apparent) easier route of having a non-Canadian Galaxy S4 where the model starts with "i950.." but mine being SGM-i337m. From what I've understood, the only reliable method I could use would be CF-Root, as described in this thread (OP's post), although the thing that bugs me, because I'd like to be able to install whatever ROM I'd like, is the line that says "[..] and those who want to keep as close to stock as possible. CF-Root is meant to be used in combination with stock Samsung firmwares [..]".
Also, which might be worth mentioning, my best bet is I'll probably end up flashing Cyanogenmod's ROM and they seem to have packaged installers, but I'm still worried it might not cover my model (if I take that route instead of rooting using CF-Root). From CGM's wiki under Supported Devices, there's a list that includes "jfltecan" (code name) for Canada, but I'm still hesitant. Do you guys think it covers Koodo (service provider) which I believe is owned by Telus (another SP) ? The last thing I want to do is brick my phone or have it unusable at the booting stage or whatever. And I don't mind reading, so any helpful links which covers this specifically would much be appreciated, although I don't mind an all cooked answer
Thanks
