[Q] Updating to 2.2 from 1.6 Rogers - Streak 5 General

Hey everyone, I'm interested in finding out how to flash my Rogers 1.6 Dell Streak to 2.2. Looking for the easiest and quickest way to get this done.
I've looked at streakdroid, modaco and these forums and none explain how to get this done clearly. I've tried flashing clockwork mod twice now (once with fastboot, once by rooting). No luck.
I was hoping to backup my 1.6 image prior to doing anything so that if I needed to revert back, I could.
So, how do I do this? I'm on baseband GAUSB1A111732-US with build 7921. What are the exact steps to get 2.2, and still retain voice-calling functionality?

Bro, I see some people messing around and trying to do this the hard way. I was like you reading bull**** all night.
just follow my earlier post. I live in Alberta and my phone is a locked dell streak Rogers phone. Now its 2.2 Froyo with a "21" baseband from the O2 UK network. My phone works perfectly and its still locked to Rogers. I will unlock later on cause I have family in the UK and I want to just pop in a sim card from there.

Can I flash ATT 31-US baseband > Dell Unlocked 00?

Hi all
I am sure this question has already been answered, but I can not find it, either here or at Modaco. There are threads for the European basebands 21>00, but I can not for the life of me find the US equivalent.
Obviously, I want to get the unlocked Dell baseband for the 2.2 ota update, plus the features that ATT are sure to lock out.
Is there a walkthrough for this? Or at least, a link to the official rom?
Thanks
I would like this too
I am interested in doing this as well. I am guessing ATT will change the market, and will also not have the hotspot feature.
Good question...I'm sending back my locked AT&T Streak so I can re-order an unlocked US Streak once they are available in a week or two. If I could just flash it to the unlocked baseband that would fix everything.

Sorry a bit off topic...
dude that seems like a lot of hazzle why not just call ATT and ask for the unlock number?
If its warranty then I said nothing

Because even if I get an unlock code the 2.2 version that will be pushed out to this phone will still have to be the version approved by them. So that will probably mean no tethering built in. I would rather have 2.2 without AT&T's hands all over it.
This can be done.
I have the official dell 2.2 running on my ATT locked phone. Here is how it can be done, but it wasn't easy and I would not recommend it to a novice.
I am not responsible for any damage you do to your phone, do this at your own risk.
I first tried to flash right too the new firmware and a system image from another forum post, that didn't work and messed up my phone, so I used instructions here hxxp://android.modaco.com/content-page/315825/bricked-streak-after-update-to-2-1-and-rooting/page/48/# to get my phone to O2's 1.6, and then upgrade to O2's 2.2. These instructions also have you on the 21 baseband.
I then used instructions and a download from DJ Steve's post here hxxp://android.modaco.com/content/dell-streak-streak-modaco-com/323484/2-2-out-for-us-bets-streaks/ to flash my firmware and a system img and a boot image, and now my ATT locked streak is at 00 firmware and running the official dell 2.2 froyo build. I don't have to worry about ATT locking my apps, and I also can install apk's that aren't from the android market.
Hello all. I just ordered my Streak today from Rogers, which I believe is ATT's northern brother so to speak. Why can't we just run Vanilla Android 2.2 on our Streak's?? It was my understanding that once full root was achieved it was a matter of porting the OS to our device. Now, im no dev so im probably talking out of my a$$ here, but its been done on the HTC HD2 which is a freaking Win Mobile phone! So why can't someone, say, port the Nexus One 2.2 rom over to the Streak?? Man this stuff confuses me. Is there an "Android for Dummies" text out there?
Yes, I am running the 00 BB and the Official Update. http://android.modaco.com/content/d...how-to-install-official-dell-2-2-upgrade-pkg/
If I do this to make my at&t streak essentially an unlocked dell unit because of the 00 baseband, will I still automatically get update notifications in the future when they are released for the unlocked models? or if an update for like 2.3 ever comes out will we need to manually find a way to install that update on the phone using like fastboot because the phone has been modified from an at&t model to an unlocked dell one?
Basically I just want to know if the automatic download and install notifications for new software (gingerbread) that may come out later will still work and it would just give us the unlocked dell version of the software instead of the at&t one?
Thanks Homiss
I'm giving that guide a go now.
Will post back later
When I go to flash the 6267 build I get to the recovery and tell it to do software upgrade via Update.pkg and then it goes to a black screen and stays there. Nothing happens after that. I have gone through the process on http://android.modaco.com/content/d...l-official-dell-2-2-upgrade-pkg/#entry1481942 5+ times now trying to get it to work. I had a 1.6 US AT&T streak. flashed to O2 1.6 just fine then this issue.
A big thanks to homeiss
Followed the instructions posted over at Modaco and flashed the Official 2.2
Dell Streak - US ATT (Unlocked by ATT)
-- Was on O2 - 2.1 (for about 3 weeks after using the homeiss guide for upgrading/downgrading)
Today:
--- Followed the instructions to downgrade to O2 - 1.6 (4399)
--- Followed the instructions to get 00 baseband and 1.6 (6267) flashed
--- Followed the instructions to get 309_00_00 - 2.2 flashed

I was finally able to get mine working as well. Some things I like about froyo and some things I don't. I miss the notification bar and menu bar from 1.6. Stage isn't that great.

i was going to upgrade too with this package untill i realised that there is a european and an american version. the difference in here lies probably in the radio frequenties used/enabled. with the engineer app one can enable these again so that shouldnt be much of a problem. have no idea what else is different.
edit: seems eu version has few apps more and radiofrequencies are different.

Do you remember what was your baseband and build when you were in O2 2.1?
(just trying to see if your starting point is the same as mine)

Hello fellow Canuck
I was on O2 - 2.1 (8105) with a baseband of 21
Using the pages suggested by Homiss, I have managed to get to the O2 1.6 build (4399).
But even though I can modify system files after using Universal Androot, I can not get su?! I have used a few different terminal emulators, my preference being connectbot and they all report 'permission denied.
Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong? I am stuck with 4399 at the moment which is slow, and has the flashing led issue! very uncool...

Support for Baseband 7921 - Tips,Guidance,How-To's

While the rest of you guys have been tinkering and hacking your Dell Streaks for quite a few months now, those of us in Canada have only just started getting our Dell Streaks through the Rogers network.
Unfortunately Dell is shipping these Streaks with the Baseband numbered as 7921 - and very little, and in some cases, zero tutorials or information is available on doing anything with this Baseband.
Having come from an HTC Desire that has been ridiculously easy to root and modify, I am pleading, almost begging for the Dell Streak community here on XDA to help out with any solid clues and/or tips to working with 7921.
Even the Superboot method doesn't have any files available for 7921. As of now, I can't root this thing unless I just take a blind chance with some other Baseband's superboot method.
Having read some other forum posts, both here and on MoDaCo ( and believe me, I have used the search feature to go through every related post possible ) - I know that there are a few people out there who have managed to root 7921 and even upgrade, but nobody has posted a single solid tutorial.
Please?
A few tips, some guidance, maybe a tutorial?
Pretty please?
Anyone?
Im in this boat. Ive tried everything i cannot get this thing to upload a update.pkg i can flash recoveries no problem, nothing seems to work i have tried going to o2 1.6 will not flash o2 2.1 nothing. mostly i get the status 7 error while its trying to flash assert failed /tmp/boot.img
I rooted with universal androot.
actually does anyone have the "original" recovery that came with a 7921 device?
Can you try using this : mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProductionLocations/Streak_318_12821_00.pkg
smoku on #dellstreak – freenode on IRC suggested it. This should also flash the AMSS and I'm presuming that it will change your baseband to 00. That should open up the possibility of updating to Dell 2.2 or Steve's ROM.
But I can't confirm this until you try it first.. let me know please?
Well I still have a Virgin 7921 phone, if I can figure out how to extract the recovery image. I've never done that before..
I bought mine a few weeks ago and I followed a couple of tutorials in this forum and the modaco forum as well... I was able to change my baseband to 00 and after that update to stock 2.2 .... now I'm running the 318 build and i'm very happy with it....
Just search for the guide to downgrade to baseband 00 is a little tricky but it works... at the end you will have enough experience to move to any build or baseband.

Hi Ivancho,
Is there any chance you could provide us with the exact link to the directions you used? I've read so many different sets of the instructions that I'm confused now. I swear, if I can successfully get 2.2 on this without screwing it up I will write a full blown walk through myself

FOTA Model name mismatch, rebooting in 30 seconds.
got that while trying to flash the above.
Dammit. Sorry. Was hoping that would work. Kind of getting demoralized with this now.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!do this. i just finished and now am at build 6601! This works!

scroll down till u get to where it says
if you just wanted to revert to O2 1.6 (build 4399) then you are done. If you are going to AT&T 1.6 (build 6601) we have to change the system so it will upgrade the the AT&T ROM.

Debranding

Today I bought a Wildfire that has a branded OS by Telstra, I don't like a lot of the extras and startup screens and junk that is there. So I rooted the phone and flashed it with that popular Puzzlerom but I didn't really like it so I recovered back to my original from a backup. Is there anyway for me to flash it with the latest official ROM from HTC or get rid of the branding on my current Telstra ROM?
So I've done some searching, I found some references to getting the official HTC ROM from Shipped-ROMS. I couldn't find anything on the website, but when looking at the website index directories I found the Buzz folder but I don't know which HTC ROM to download. I want the latest one and I'm not really sure what the difference in versions numbers are as there are so many and all of them are pre-dated before the 2.2 release and I don't know if there is a difference in Radios and I don't want to upgrade to the latest version and have my phone not picking up reception and not being able to possibly revert it as I don't know if 2.2 is rootable.
I'm also unsure If I can simply run the official WWE .exe if my phone is rooted without some kind of corruption.
If somebody could give me a quick guide or point me to a thread which could help.
In a nut shell my situation is:
Telstra Branded Firmware Version: 2.1-update1.
Software number: 1.21.841.3
Kernal: 2.6.28-543e5f81
Rooted
Need to unbrand and get latest official HTC rom.
I too am interested in a fix for this?
cheers
Turns out I'm actually really stupid.
In the Development subforum people post the official ROM and safe .zip versions of it too -_-.
Debrand Telstra Wildfire
Am curious about doing this the Telstra firmware is quite annoying not to mention god knows when Android 2.2 will become available. I have tried all the RUU update i can find none work, get either error 130 or 140... main problem seems to be the model id of my phone is incorrect. I currently have 2.1-update1, baseband 13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10, software number 1.30.841.1. Anyone got any ideas how to get rid of the Telstra firmware in favour of the standard HTC?

Or browse in here:

I bought a Telstra Wildfire before Xmas and used the follwoing procedure to debrand it to a stock HTC ROM.
The Wildfire came with ROM ver 1.21. I upgraded it to 1.37. See http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Buzz/ for a list of the HTC roms. I used http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Buz...3.55.24H_3.35.19.25_release_151892_signed.exe as it is the most recent one that can still be rooted. The next one is Froyo (http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Buz...5.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.exe) however if you flash this one you will not be able to root it unless someone works out how to at some time in the future.
Firstly you will need to root the phone using Unrevoked (http://unrevoked.com/#wildfire).
Secondly create a goldcard (http://android.modaco.com/content/software/308798/pc-application-goldcardtool/)
The goldcard is necessary as, even though the phone has been rooted, the upgrade program will note that the CID in the phone is for Telstra and you are installing a non-Telstra ROM. You will get an error without the goldcard. The goldcard will override this detection and allow stock HTC and custom ROMS to be installed on your phone. Once you have installed the new stock HTC ROM using the goldcard, the goldcard will not be required for future stock ROM upgrades. It may not be required for upgrades to custom ROMS either but someone else may be able to verify this as I have not tried them.
Some people have had trouble getting the goldcard to work using thrid party SD cards. If you use the one that came with the phone you will not have trouble. The only problem with this is, as part of the unrevoked rooting, you will probably have done an nandroid backup which will dump backup files on the card so that you can restore your original ROM if you wish. I skipped this backup as shippedroms has the standard Tesltra 1.21 rom on their site (http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Buz...45.55.24_3.35.15.31_release_138758_signed.exe) so that you can restore the phone to standard if required.
Thirdly, install the stock ROM (http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Buz...3.55.24H_3.35.19.25_release_151892_signed.exe) with the goldcard in the phone.
This will unroot your phone but you can re-root it again as you did in the first step above.
You can upgrade to Froyo but read the posts under the Wildfire Android Development section of these forums so that you understand the disadvantages of doing so. Many have been to quick to upgarde and have been caught out!
I am going to wait until unrevoked can root Froyo before I install it.
Has anyone tested that the phone can still communicate at 850mhz after running this process?
The phone I ran this on still works at 2100mhz, but lost 850mhz, which more renders a Telstra wildfire useless (Unless you're a city dweller with ample 2100 coverage)
Is it possible that the radio firmware flashed in with the european image (which is of course designed for the 900/2100 radio) does not work properly with the hardwre in this phone? I've done a lot of searching on this subject and have come up completely empty!
Hey guys,
I bought Eclair Wildfire Telstra-branded only weeks ago, straight away rooted it and installed Sunaabh ROM (a stable, stock-like Froyo ROM). Apart from Telstra splash screen (unable to remove because we have S-On) it is debranded of course. I dunno what you mean about the radio stuff, but I live in faaaaarrrr west Sydney (Wallacia) which is pretty much country and I get 3G. Is that full NextG speed...? I really don't know!
Do NOT install official 2.2 update! It will remove root and install the new, currently unrootable HBOOT!
EDIT: What is this goldcard nonsense? Do your research! Unrevoked3 installs the Clockworkmod recovery and you can then flash ANYTHING.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using Tapatalk
I think by now I can say there's 2 ways of debranding a Wildfire A3335:
What I did (don't do this anyone else!):
* Run a stock RUU. Fully fully debrands it (No telstra logos anywhere). Also replaces the radio firmware with an eurpoean version and destroys your phone's rural (850mhz) coverage
What you did (and what I should have done):
* Just replace the ROM. Leave the Radio firmware in place: End result: You still have a phone that works on 850mhz but you've also got an annoying telstra boot screen, and there's not a damn thing that can be done about it until S-OFF is figured out for Wildfire.

The Goldcard is for people who choose to run the HTC RUU upgrade process, as described by lemming999. As you just reflashed your ROM, it is expected that you would not require a Goldcard.
As per my post above. *** Do not run this unless you really don't care about your rural coverage ***
Ok - I've posted a solution for getting 850MHz 3G back again for anyone silly enough to do what I did. Read here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11559059#post11559059

Is it possible that you have S-OFF as a result of flashing an RUU? I assume no, because there are no RUU packages which have an "Engineering" SPL included... right?
What about SIMLOCK? True debranding should remove the CID if you can share whether you can use non Telstra SIM cards now, I may pursue the Goldcard/RUU process myself!
I don't have S-OFF at the end of this. But the HTC RUU does have the ability by some means of magic to COMPLETELY debrand the phone (including the first boot screen) and ruin your radio in the process.
So now that I've managed to restore the Telstra radio, I have have a 100% unbranded, fully working A3335 while most people tend to be stuck with the telstra logo at the SPL.
If S-OFF was obtainable on wildfire I think this process would be a lot easier but I got the desired result in the end. Reflashing the radio is pretty dodgy. I've avoid it as if it goes wrong. Your phone is a doorstop.

Yes non telstra SIM cards work. Although, I bought the phone unlocked so I don't know how this came about. as for the CID, it may remain, it may not. I don't know how to tell. There's a fairly good chance it was nuked when I flashed with the Euro RUU.
Fair enough, thanks for the detail. I'm not fussed on SIMLOCK (no vodafone coverage out here anyway), was just curious.
In regards to s-off, it is determined by SPL which AFAIK every RUU has. But again, every PUBLIC RUU would have nandlock. But there are some Wildfire users here who do have s-off, and say they don't remember how they did it (they never noticed until down the track). Odd.

[Q] Going from AT&T 2.2 TO Official 2.2

My original Streak was 1.6 which I was able to move to the official version of Froyo easily with QDL tool. I recently sent it in and received a replacement that had AT&T's crippled 2.2 on it. I really liked the official. Stage was better and I had hotspot and tethering. Now I don't. I have looked for a way to get the 00 base band from 31 while already at froyo but haven't found a clear answer how to do it. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Most stock ROMs available at the Streak section of the XDA wiki.
You want to read this:
Radimus’s Universal Guide to Flashing a ROM
I would suggest that you try baseband 351 for a stock ROM. The Streak links in my signature might be useful.

Sorry
I am sorry to say you have gone from an unlocked or uk streak and now you have a locked streak through you carrier, this is no problem as you still can flash the official rom although you have to downgrade it to 1.6 at&t and then to 1.6 o2 and then 2.1 o2 and then 2.2 o2. Sorry but I haven't got the time to tell you exactly what to do but there are dj steve forums on modacado that you could use skipping the last step!!!
Glad I could help Stevepork
If the replacement Streak was shipped to you with Android 2.2 you do not have to revert to Android 1.6 to install any of the Android 2.x roms.
You can install a 00 ROM on a locked phone. It will not unlock the phone from your carrier, but it will have the features of the unlocked ROM. If the phone you have is carrier locked you will have to unlock it to use another carrier's SIM. I don't have any experience with carrier unlocking, I bought my Streak unlocked direct from Dell.
nameyourflav, what carrier are you with?

Guide on how I dowgraded 2.3.3 DZ (on 2.42.666.x build) to 1.34 and gain root/unlock

mods pls delete this post if there is already a guide for it (i couldn't find one myself last night).
WARNING 1: you are the only person who will be responsible should anything happen to your phone.
WARNING 2: i am not a developer, i am only sharing what i found last night and hope it will be useful to those who are in the same boat and to those who are brave enough to try.
This is a post of my own user experience of how I was able to downgrade my 2.3.3 build number 2.42.666.x DESIRE Z and regain root/unlock. I cannot guarantee if it will work on your Z or G2.
if you decided to try using my method, make sure you backup everything and anything, turn on sub development, do not mount your sd to pc.
Background about my Z:
- got it new from BELL with froyo on it.
- Originally rooted and unlocked using this guideHERE
- unrooted and re-locked my phone for repair using the same guide i just mentioned, along with the bell RUU found on shipped roms
-phone returned with 2.3.3 on it, locked to bell, build unmber 2.42.666.x (forgot the last number)
So last night, I spent hours trying to downgrade it using various methods found on xda and other site, none of them worked for me (fre3vo, psneuter, goldcard...etc). Later I found a couple posts saying anything on 2.42.xxx.x or higher cannot be downgraded yet. being frustrated, and being no clear-minded (coz it was like 4am), i decided to flash the phone with the bell ruu found on shipped roms, the ruu is on froyo 1.34.666.1. Magically, it worked and downgraded my phone to 1.34 and i was able to root and unlock it and flash it to a custom GB rom.
when i used the bell RUU, i had gold card on sd, not sure if it will make a difference for you.
- i am not sure if i could do that using a non-bell froyo ruu (keep in mind my phone was bell branded).
- i am not sure if you could use a WWE ruu on a non-branded phohe.
- i am not sure if you could do the same on a G2, mine was a bell DZ.
again, i am just sharing my own experience and hope someone will find it helpful.
cheers. (1st time posting on xda so pls be gentle to me).
Since it's your first time posting...I'll be nice but...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
Searching or even looking on the first page would be nice.
EDIT: Yes that is the goldcard method that you mention above too.
