Convince me to put DJ05 on - Fascinate General

Well I am really sick of waiting for 2.2, when all I wanted was to get a gps fix and some bug fixes. How hard is it to flash DJ05 on? I know my friends itouch was bricked but I was unable to un brick it. Does the same concept apply to phones? If I brick it, will enough re-flashes fixes it?

I installed it. It's fairly simple. My phone wouldn't send texts after I did it because I did it a weird way. All I did was flash a DJ05 rom from the market. I got everything to work by flashing the radio in odin, then everything was fine. Just flash the new radio, and download a rom from rom manager that says DJ05. It's very simple and it gave me many new abilities. I even got the gingerbread theme and fooled all my friends haha

There should be a DJ05 installation guide on irc.
Rockin' DJ05, Minimal Icognito, Clocked at 1.3Ghz

Wrong section. If you have to ask, probably shouldn't flash it man.

Also you why would you ask someone to convince you to get dj05?? It really doesnt matter to us if you get dj05 or not. You should decide if you want the changes regardless of the risk it entails.

DJ05 helped me lose 50 lbs, and cured my IBS.
It also made my GPS usable. :-D

This is the wrong forum for this question but I'll tell you if you read and follow the instructions for
1. Rooting your phone.
2. Installing Clockwork ROM Manager
3. Installing DJ05
You will very likely have a working GPS on your Fascinate. There are a few places in the instructions where you have to read between the lines. PM me if you want the links to the instructions I followed.

Root now or wait for froyo?

Rooting isn't hard at all. You should go ahead & root now
+1 on the root now. While your at it install a custom rom and you will love your phone. Odds are you can get the Froyo update right here before it hits OTA anyways.
Yeah I've rooted my vibrant before I had to get a new one. It is easy but I would probably have to un root it to update right?
Sent from my vibrant while I'm working. I love my job
I don't understand what waiting would do. What you should NOT do is get the Froyo update from T-Mobile, as there is a chance that they will push an update that breaks your ability to root with 2.2 and you will have to wait even longer.
I recommended you root now, install Rom Manager, go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813001
Download Fusion 1.1 to your SDCARD (I have a folder called ROMS) and go to Clockwork, reboot into Recovery, Reinstall Packages, Install ZIP from SDCARD, choose Bionix 1.1, wait, and then see what that phone is really capable of.
Using Fusion 1.1 makes me not mind waiting for Froyo.
Yeah you are right it's just I haven't got to comfortable w/ flashing roms just yet. Looks a bit hard I guess I will just keep watching the videos on it till I feel like I can do it
Sent from my vibrant while I'm working. I love my job
Flashing roms is super easy as long as you're using ones flashable through rom manager. I must warn you it's very addictive. The only thing I would say is make your you backup in case something goes wrong and avoid Voodoo until you've flashed a few times and feel more comfortable. Great thing is there is tons of support here. I suggest you try Bionix Final.
Well guys I'm pretty convinced I think im going to do it I'm going to look into it thanx alot for your input

Dooo eeet!
Yes, it's daunting at first to flash a new ROM, but I just did it for the first time a few weeks ago and it was simple and easy. Just read up as much as you can and then write up a "roadmap" on all the steps you need to take, before, during, and after. It removed a lot of headaches for me because I planned it all out and had all the software ready in case anything went wrong (Odin, stock ROM, etc.). If there are any gaps in your understanding or questions about a process, ask them here before you flash!
I would root it and load a custom ROM, waiting for official OTA update to Froyo is like playing a Russian roulette now. Look what a simple update that was suppsoed to address GPS and other issues did to your fellow TMO users.
As always, there will be people who wouldn't even know that you can root the device to make it your own, so they will always run stock, and complain to TMO when they click MobiTV app and never use it, but have to cough up 10 bucks a month for it (it is just an example).
If you came here you know that you can do something to your phone besides waiting for Froyo, take a full advantage of what is offered in the dev section, and don't forget to support the developers if you like the work they do
Ok I'm reading the thread you posted how do I preform nandroid back up?

If you are going to root, you might as well just do it.
Froyo could easily be 2-3 months down the road yet.
you need ROM manager...
it took me forever to find a how-to on this exact thing.
You have to be rooted in order to accomplish this:
1. root (obviously)
2. download ROM manager
3. open ROM manager and click on 'Flash ClockworkMod Recovery' and pick your phone.
4. click 'Backup Current ROM'
5. Let it do it's thing... it's going to reboot and run in recovery then reboot again.
6. You are done!!
To recover, you have to boot into clockwork recovery and click restore then pick the date file you made to recover to that date!
** If any of this is wrong, please call me out!!
Yeah, I started doing all this before I even discovered ROM Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery. Those tools definitely make everything so much easier.
Make sure you have the following software tools:
ADB
Odin
Rom Manager (w/ ClockworkMod Recovery installed)
Titanium Backup
Also, make sure your phone is not hardware locked before you begin. Try the standard procedure to enter Recovery Mode; if your phone is hardware locked, run the flashable fix (found in the dev forum) so that you have some way of recovering from a soft brick.
From my experiences, rooting has always been the fastest way to get updates. Those rollouts take forever.
Just rooted and installed fusion 1.1 it's great thanx for the tips guys

lol. i was waiting for a froyo release, i flashed my g1 a bunch so flashing wasn't a big deal, but i was happy with the phone stock for a bit and didn't mind waiting. but i rooted after a week. was flashing smaller things like ji2 gps, getting rid of bloatware, changing bootup/shutdown, etc. a couple weeks later. and a couple weeks after that i started flashing roms.
moral of the story? just root and start flashing now, it's a long wait.

okay...we already knew this was true, but i have a question.
When the real froyo comes out, will we have to flash back to the DI18 stock w/ Odin or will we be able to update the manual way like we did for this "test"? (I know it wouldn't show up in the system updates notification)
Since ur probably gonna root and load a custom rom anyway, pretty sure u can just wait for the rom packages to be updated and go straight from dk28

Yea, but doing that will inevitably lead to problems. The best way to do it is to return to DI18 and let Android update you the normal way, then root, then install whatever rom you want. If DK28 has taught us anything, its that trying to take the shortcut leads to non functional GPS and other problems.
Which means we'll probably be getting the final build of froyo in a few months judging by the current rate of progress. SOOOOOOO tired of waiting.
I checked the Sprint forums.
One of the admin suggests that the official update will be released within 3 weeks at the least, unless there's problems. Which...there will be -_-

I do recommend switching to dj05, then using either super clean by jt or black hole by sonofskywalker.
I agree, if you haven't done any roms yet, you might as well go to DJ05. It is pretty painless. I'm running the DJ05 Super Clean by JT currently.

I'm really curious about this as well. I have been having the same problem. My texts go out as blank "pages" and I cannot receive any. It only happens with the dj05 roms and not the di01. Also, so where would the dj05 update rather than the rom be found? Thanks.
Did you flash the modem.bin for DJ05?
It sounds like you flashed the ROM without the modem.bin.

I'm a total noob and need some help!!

I completely new to the whole flashing and custom rom thing. I've never tried anything like it and don't know much about it. The closest I've come to hacking or rooting my Vibrant phone is with the OCLF app. Now, I too have been patiently waiting for Froyo to come out and for some reason when it did come out I was hesitant to get it. I wanted to see what people were saying about it before I downloaded and installed it. So far from what I'm seeing, its not all its cracked up to be and it seems like Froyo for the Vibrant is "meh" for most. This is a bummer to me but I kept hearing about using a custom and its advantages. Thankfully I bumped into a very useful thread posted by xriderx66 on his reviews on some of the roms out now. Based on what he said, I'm looking to flashing my phone to the Bionix-V Rom by Team Whiskey. Problem is I have no idea how to get started. What do I need to do to flash my phone? Any program I need to download first? How do I backup my files? I'm such a noob at this its funny but I'm willing to take the risk and experience this phone the way it should be experienced. If someone can post a link showing a step by step on how to do the whole thing I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance
Go to the development thread and browse through the stickies. Reading and more reading should be the first two things you do. Pay attention to anything relating to odin.

Anyone else stuck with D12?

Had my Fascinate since launch date. Waited and saw the DI01 come through/ tried to update my phone...install failed miserably..no matter how many times I tried, even did full restore.
I was going to try to get a full DL09 and flash it to my phone, I have Odin, downloaded the .tar file. But got frustrated. I'm pretty computer literate, but for some reason this stuff just escapes me. Anyway went to VZW today and ordered a warranty replacement, should be here Friday. Hopefully this one works and I will either wait for the rumored 22nd release date of Froyo or I will try and download it and flash it...if I can do it.

It's all good man. Getting a brand new phone as opposed to a refurbished one. I understand what to do, I get the general idea as to how, I can read the steps but I am more of a visual learner, so pictures to go along with these install steps would help someone out like me.
I also work for a VZW Premium Retailer. Corporate stores don't like us much, so kinda shocked the Sales Rep that I had as much knowledge about the phone as I did. It's actually a known software problem with the phones. As well as the issue that if you use the unlock pattern on the phone and fail at it 19 times or more it will lock the phone out...it will ask you for the gmail information that you provided but even that will not work, resetting the phone to stock will not work...I was told this by a Samsung Tech Agent that it was a known software issue with their devices.
Got my new phone today.DL09 on the Baseband....now on to root, and Froyo...hopefully
Godspeed, good sir...

Then follow this post. It should wipe your phone and put a completely stock version of DL09 on it.
Just make sure to use the PDA button in Odin only.

Personally I've learn once you do an OTA update, it will not allow you to do it again. It has happened to me when I've tried to do every offical update more than once
thank you for the quick information, I will try it now and report back.
