Which ROM is 2.2.1? - Vibrant General

Sorry, sort of a dumb question but is there a ROM that gives us 2.2.1? I heard it's superior than 2.2. I am currently running Nero v3 w/ Voodoo enabled and I LOVE it but you know what they say; "curiosity kills the cat". Thjanks...

None of the galaxy s devices are running 2.2.1 so it would have to be a port from another phone.
Fear the beard...

Wrong. There is a leak of Galaxy S running 2.2.1 and I believe that there is a 2.2.1 ROM by jellette but taken down due to drama.
2.2.1 isn't worth it, there are a lot of bugs and 2.2 is farly more stable.

It is not worth it - unless you live in an area with poor reception and you can guarantee low frequencies hit your phone - once it hits 80 and above it soft reboots - as far as I know there is no headway on a fix for this - the problem exists in JPU, JPX and JPY - there are still a few hardcore Alpha testers working their butts off looking for work arounds though.

OK thanks. I'll patiently wait for the Gingerbread port

[Q] Is it worth upgrading your Galaxy S to Froyo?

I just rooted my Galaxy S and was thinking of updating to unofficial Froyo 2.2.
Froyo users, is it worth the switch and why or why not?
This is a dupe.. Summary is, don't bother.. Froyo is still VERY buggy and isn't fully optimised yet. It's great to play with, but it's still a world of hurt (and you'll likely end up downgrading soon after)
Only use Froyo if you are a developer and want to play with the new API's.
^ thank you for the response, I was reading some comments of Bell Galaxy Vibrant not getting 3.5 HSPA when updating to JP3 Froyo
If you have a US phone, you should investigate before installing ANY firmware anyway.. Because if you flash some of the US models with international firmware, you might brick them..
Im running JM5 (thats the least buggy of all 2.2 firmwares). If you don't mind the occasional app crash its honestly not all bad. Flash is a massive plus for me which why I won't downgrade.
I would just wait a couple of weeks for official support. Honestly is a few weeks that big a deal? Not for me.

I've been running JP3 for about two weeks now and apart from a few hiccups and the odd app crash or force wait, it's been rock soild. I'm running LauncherPro (paid) with all the fruit on and combined with ES Task Manager and Chainfire's lagfix it's running very nicely

[Q] New Epic, what to do?

Ok, So I just switched from the Evo over to my Samsung Epic and Not sure if i made the right move. Not a fan of Eclair(android 2.1) and I have not heard good news about the leaked 2.2 for the epic. I'm wondering whats an ideal setup on the epics. Do I upgrade to the leaked 2.2 and get a nice rom?(viperrom looks pretty decent) or do i stick with 2.1 and get a nice rom on that end?those who have a favorite tell me why and let me know some of the pros n cons.
P.S Hi new to forum
I would pick a nice 2.1 rom and wait for official Froyo to launch. There are some bugs with DK28 that are annoying as hell when they occur. None of the things that DK28 fixes are absolutely necessary, such as the much improved GPS. GPS still functions on 2.1, just not nearly as well as on Froyo.
You're kidding, right? GPS sucks on Froyo.

Just sucessfully rooted my phone and now I'm thinking on which ROM to flash to. Probably going to take your advice and stick with 2.1 for now also. Have you tried SyndicateROM? I didn't see very many options for Roms in 2.1 and found this to be only plausible option was wondering if you have tried it and what did you think?(if you have)

I ran syndicaterom for a while. It was very stable and nice. You can also pick a kernel to use in conjunction with whatever rom you use. Stock kernel is very stable obviously, but if you have concerns about battery life or something like that, or feel a need to overclock, there are kernels available that offer that. SyndiateRom comes with the Xtreme kernel if you flash the "Full" release, if I am remembering correctly. It is a very good all around kernel, although Phoenix 1.43 was always the best with regards to battery life for me.

Odin to dk28, one click root, then install bonsai rom and optionally install a theme.
With this setup my GPS works better than it has for any other phone (lock in 5-10 seconds). Flash works, and the system flies. Not many cons that I'm aware of.

Yeah I was running baked snack for a while with his kernal. Very very smooth and great battery. In the end I flashed froyo and I don't have any issues at all I would realy recommend trying it if you aren't a fan of 2.1.

Mine is spot on....running EXT4 and custom ROM
If you want working GPS and Flash support in the browser go with a leaked DK28 ROM (ViperROM w/ EXT4 is my personal favorite). GPS is better than ever on Froyo - it actually works now! Extremely well at that... There is a process for going to DK28 and making the GPS happy, as long as you follow that process you'll be in great shape. I really can't think of a reason to be on DI18, unless you need to go into a Sprint store for some reason.

Still overwhelmed, but I like your site's instructions, very thorough, thumbs up for that tip, I still am on stock rooted, but one of these days....at least this site is thorough...
I agree 2.2 is the way to go. The most of the problems on froyo can be pinpointed to a problem installing it. I've flashed froyo plenty of times and if you can get the gps steps down everything should be just fine. if your staying on eclair the overclocked syndicate rom is a beast.

I vote 2.2, I have it and haven't looked back. Its luck of the draw. Some get more bugs then others. I lucked out I guess.
Another vote for 2.2 here. My ROM recommendation is Quantum, it's well-supported and its developer is on top of his game. Some other ROMs include a lot of... gimmicks. Yeah, we'll go with gimmicks. (It slices, it dices, it automagically makes your internets faster!)
In any case, there's no real reason for Android 2.1. The leaked FroYo is stable at this point. If you're getting force closes then it probably means something went wrong during flash. If you can follow instructions then it's not difficult.

Leaked 2.3 ROM FOR i9000 GALAXY S

http://www.samfirmware.com/apps/blog/entries/show/6282349-android-2-3-2-leaks-for-galaxy-s-
This is a just leaked rom for the galaxy s. hopefully the devs can use it for the vibrant.
well even if not at least we know now that Samsung wasn't lying about March for the euro/Asian markets.
Nice, hopefully we will be able to use this to our advantage?
Also, couldn't we flash this since we now have the kernel that allow us to flash i900 ROMS? If we could just flash those files, then flash the kernel through Odin somehow it might work. Idk though, I'm no dev.

GINGERBREAD leaked
damb, this is so great, im thinking maybe tonight we might have a port for the vibrant, and i wonder if eugene and krylon know about this considering, it just today got leaked, a few hours ago.............. anyways, everyone post on this, lets get the hype going, we want this baby ported ASAP.. always thanks so much eugene and krylon, my brothers of galaxy android
So far from what i've read over there...
Looks like quadrant scores are not improved over 2.2 which is what i'm sure most people are hoping for. It also appears that the screen off animation is not present in the rom. It's also using Touchwiz 3.0 and not 4. Market is broken, and gingerbread keyboard also not included. Looks like an early beta build from what i've read.
**edit**
market is working, they have root access, and they are in the process of deodexing.
So far from what i've read over there...
damn double post. please delete
Sweet, hope we can get some cooked roms soon
The bad thing about it, it uses touchwiz 3.0, not stock.

The kernel that allows us to flash i9000 ROMs is only 2.2 and 2.2.1 compatible. I'm pretty sure someone would have to build a new kernel to let us flash that or port the ROM over.
The crowds are getting restless over there. They're in an uproar about "this is missing" and "that is missing". One of the complaints is about the gingerbread wallpaper being missing. But these guys forget that our 2.1 devices didn't come with stock 2.1 walls. They instead came with whatever wallpapers samsung gave us. Overall it's starting to sound more complete than the first froyo leaks that we used to have which is reassuring. Some of the guys say that the leak is stable and everything is working on their devices. One of the nice improvements they're reporting is functioning hardware acceleration.
No TV-off?! NOooOoO!

Funny to see their behavior over it when we are just sinking our teeth into 2.2.1. Maybe its a good thing though.. I myself am so pleased with the performance boost of 2.2.1 that I'm in no rush to flash again but of course I'm in the minority on that.

Na I'm with you on that, running Bionix 1.3 and it really is just as fast as CM7 was for. Really the only thing that gingerbread had over this ROM is that the applications list loaded faster. Plus on this I have themes

I agree, but with root... Root. Freeze bloat. Enjoy.
Depends on how much other stuff the devs have going on. I'd guess about a 2-4 weeks.
I mean, it was just leaked a day or two ago, it's going to take a bit of time.
I hope they come out. The bloatware sucks. LPP FC's for me so I have to use the stock launcher. Moto's gingerbread 'skin' seems weak and unfinished (hence leak I guess).
Love the performance boosts though. Cannot wait to root. I've given up hope for an AOSP DX rom though (Froyo or Gbread).

LPP works flawlessly for me, have you tried the usual thing? Clearing dalvik cache & system cache?
You're not gonna get a *true* ASOP ROM due to the locked bootloader...which is why CyanogenMod isn't on the DX or D2.
For anyone contemplating updating, DO IT.. This release is extremely substantial...now that I have the rooted gingerbread and have debloated / deblurred / made build.prop changes, I will never again use a froyo rom.. I will happily wait for the custom gingers to come out
This is a substantial release I would say even more significant then going from the original 2.1 to 2.2 was

If he has it all set up his accounts would be on the nandroid that would be created. All you have to do i delete the bloat files with root explorer takes like 10 minutes.
one thing i really want is the screen off animation..i dk y just makes it feel complete

Yeah, but I want to wait untill there is a boot strappable ROM, and a very simple root process, like the one touch z4root. Tell me when THOSE come out! lol

this may be outdated/unnecessary but i figured that i'd share / hope others would share too
im still skeptical about moving on to ICS for the vibrant just bc i need a phone that works 100% correctly all the time... so im still on froyo.
currently running bionix fishman mod final2 w/ bali-x @ 1.2ghz
essentially froyo tweaked in many ways w/ the appwidgetpicker
along with the miui camera, s.gps2 for gps fix, setcpu, and bln
is anyone else flashing any additional necessary files when they flash their roms??

Fishman is good. My needs are different. I need a Rom that is atleast 2.2.1. So the capacitive buttons dont blind me on each screen press. I'd recommend ultimate rom or biwinning with the sense or sgs2 theme. I also use Bali undervolt kernel. If you haven't already test out the modems for your area. For instance for me its KB1.

CM9's 16B is so functional that I put it on my Dad's phone, and he says it's running much better than it did before on Bionix. The only issue he and I have been having is the GPS, which never has worked from the beginning for us anyways, and very minor things (like the menu for toggle widgets is called lockscreens or something).
ICS is pretty awesome. You may want to give it a shot... I recommend the Icy Glitch kernel to go with CM9.

when you say never worked, do you mean it as GPS ideally should? or even to the low standards of how the vibrant's GPS is supposed to work?
personally since everything works 100% as best as it possibly can right now on my vibrant with bionix fishman mod without a hardware gps fix, i'm very reluctant to move onto ICS if the GPS wont even lock within around 30 secs or so like i can get it to do with froyo especially if it is something i need eventually
minor things like menu names i can definitely deal with, but if froyo's GPS works better overall compared to an ICS rom, i see absolutely no reason to make the switch with this phone. if i need ICS that badly, i will get a new phone
