its just the .apk, so people on custom roms, but have avatar on sd card, they can use that .apk with the sd card movie.
Awesome. Will add to the stickies soon.
Should be in the App Section though. Hopefully a mod can move it.
Reread thread, never mind.
OP could you post samsung apps like feeds and updates, daily briefing, memo, allshare etc.

The Sims is a problem because it is two APKs. One is the launcher and does nothing without the actual game. The game is too HUGE to post, and might be considered warez, even though it has been confirmed it will only run on a true T959. So if you want that one the best solution at the moment it to get it from the market since EA recently released it.
what version of swype is that?

On astro click back until it says back 1 more time to exit.
That's where u find system then find app or apps, then paste or move it in there.
To the version of swype question, this is from the latest official froyo.
Edit : I will add thinkfree AND sims if a mod tells me its okay.
Ill add sins by giving sd card data
Not to self advertise BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTT http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894794 has this ability to add all the stock apps you want and it will package them in a pretty flashable zip for you, too

Have you confirmed that the apk is in fact in /system/app and that it was not a failed copy?
I have noticed that when using DroidExplorer to do pushes, if the permissions are not correct it acts the same as if it copied ok. I usually end up having to verify using a on phone file manager like Astro or Root Explorer that the file is actually there.
after rebooting again i checked astro and it is in the system/app folder. i did notice that the rest of the files in system apps have the size, date, and something that says -r- (dont really know too much about astro so i have no idea what that means). but i did notice that the memo apk has the size, date, and instead of -r- is has -rw. anyone know what that means?

Hide / Rename Apps from App Drawer?

Hi Guys,
There are certain apps that I would like to hide from the App Drawer in my Tab since my friends are literally all over the tab and snooping around in my messages or photos or even password protection apps. Could you tell me of any possibility of Hiding apps from the App drawer or probably RENAMING them to a less catchy title?
Your help is much appreciated,
cheers!
There's only two ways of doing this.....
1. Route your phone and then using a Root Explorer rename the App.
2. Use an alternative Home App.
If you use Launcher Pro one of the options it has is to hide Apps from the App Drawer.
You would have to go back through the menu to un-hide them but it might work for you.
Launcher Pro
Menu>Preferences>General>Hide Apps
Btw, you have ****ty friends...

Beards,
Thanks for the reply. Now, i have rooted my tab and currently on Roto JMI v2. I have installed root explorer. Could you please guide me how to change the name from within ROOT EXPLORER. I mean, the directory / path of the apps? I tried myself but no luck
Cheers & Much Appreciated!
You should be able to simply mount the system/app folder and rename the App in question.
Can you confirm you have done a reboot.
If so Root Explorer should work as normal.

I have done a reboot, and can see various files in the root explorer along with the option to mount. But I am unable to see the apps that I have installed from the market. For example : Catch Notes is one app I installed but can't locate it in root explorer so that I can rename or modify it.
Cheers!

Sorry but if the App is not showing in a search you must have a problem with your rooting or the file manager.

Hi guys!
I'm bumping an ancient thread here, hope that's okay with you.
I have this old S4+ lying around. I love it's Gallery app due to the built-in possibility to losslessly trim MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) videos by cutting to nearest keyframe, and also lossless rotation by changing the rotation metadata flag of the MP4 file in question. This simple feature is not implemented in "modern" Gallery apps, or well at least not in the OnePlus 5T I'm using today. So, I was thinking I could extract the .APK from my S4+ (running Android 5.x) and put it in my OP5T (running Android 8.x) without too much headache. Guess if I was wrong.
I get the error about that app was not installed. After browsing around on e.g. ApkMirror, I ultimately found a Samsung Galaxy derived Gallery .APK that I could install, it was a very early version (v1.x.something) which has the cutting feature, but not the rotation (flag changing) feature. So, this ancient Gallery3D .apk installed well, but not the one on my own Galaxy S4+.
So, what could be my issue? Is the .APK flagged to be installed as a system app, and due to my OP5T not being rooted I don't have access too /system/app/, therefor the error? Could it be that simple? If so, is it possible the modify the .APK to install as in /data/app/ instead? Of course I'd resign the APK with some dummy/androiddebug signature afterwards to make installation possible.
Could it be some silly (not really needed) demand listed in the AndroidManifest.xml of the APK in question? If so, is it possible to replace the AndroidManifest.xml with a very "basic" one listing more or less no demands, and re-wrap everything with new signature?
I'm really investigating all my options __except__ for having to root my OnePlus!
I figured that I could get a more specific error message from ADB than by just trying to install the .APK through the phone interface.
So, here goes..
Code:
C:\>adb.exe install F:\Galleri_com.sec.android.gallery3d.apk
adb: failed to install F:\Galleri_com.sec.android.gallery3d.apk: Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INVALID_APK: Package couldn't be installed in /data/app/com.sec.android.gallery3d-RAEW5FZ4VBWqTWXx48LPmQ==: Package /data/app/com.sec.android.gallery3d-RAEW5FZ4VBWqTWXx48LPmQ==/base.apk code is missing]
What does this tell me?

The Galaxy S4 and most Samsung devices has a second framework app, twframework-res.apk, that only works with their apps. Here's the fun part: the existing Android framework-res.apk is modified by Samsung so both framework apps are required by a given Samsung app to function. Even better is that you cannot simply port the app and twframework-res.apk to a totally different device and expect it to function. You'd have to port the framework-res.apk as well, and with that apk being a system file, you'd soft brick your device after copying it and rebooting.
The tl;dr here? What you're attempting won't work due to Samsung modifications to Android.

I downloaded the apk at the link, put the apk in system/app, changed permissions rw-r-r, reboot. Now it actually loads into the email app but the actual emails/conversations don't show up and after few seconds force closes.

[Q] Best way to backup wifi passwords?

I have a bunch of wifi access points and passwords that I use regularly, but always lose them when I flash a new ROM. What's the best way to backup these credentials so that I can restore them after flashing a new ROM? I've tried the "WiFi Pass Recovery & Backup" app but it totally bombards you with ads (seriously) and also causes thousands of wakelocks so drains the battery as well (I've had spyware which has been less obtrusive).
I try to avoid syncing my apps and data with my Google account as it takes so long to restore it all (I usually backup apps to my SD card).
Go to system-->misc-->wifi-->wpa_supplicant.conf
Backup this file. It has all the wifi passwords you've ever accessed.

I've just been exploring this. Presumably it's the "Backup data to XML" option? I just tried this for "Wi-Fi Access Points", and chose to save the file locally (to the suggested default location: \storage\emulated\legacy). It seemed to succeed, but when I looked in the \storage\emulated\legacy folder there was no sign of the file.
So I then chose the Dropbox option, and confirmed that the file had been uploaded there. When I tried to restore it using Titanium the app was unable to locate the file - i.e. in the TiBu app I chose "Restore data from XML", navigated to the relevant folder in Dropbox, and it said "No matching files". If I go into the Dropbox app it can see the file no problem.
Am I missing something, or is the TiBu XML backup/restore option flakey??

The file has information on it? I haven't checked that as I merely checked if the directory and file exists.
Just be careful of what you get. Most of these don't restore passwords. Only some do.
most of these just show you a list of them. The one I linked lets you save that list. But you still ahve to manually re-enter them.

Yes the .conf file contains the SSIDs and passwords in plain text format (surprisingly I thought). Anyway it hopefully gives me a way of restoring them to a rooted device if I use Root Explorer.
